Before we can truly become "little," we must confront the Pharisee in ourselves. Pharisaism is religious narcissism. The Bible calls it "insolent pride." The label "narcissist" is widely deployed to refer to people who appear to be too full of themselves, but the truth is, we all have selfish, narcissistic tendencies to some degree that we must wrestle with. I believe this "spirit of judgment" is the main wound of the Fall. Jesus' most dire warnings and strongest words were for the blind Pharisees. . Clinically, narcissism is a spectrum, and there are three "types" that give us useful information on how to deal with it in ourselves and others. Ultimately, Paul says we must "come out!" and unto our Heavenly Father in order to heal this father wound. . If you've never explored the "father wound," here 's a whole series o healing the father wound. Born into the harsh realities of slavery in 1864, Charles Page's journey was far from ordinary. His relentless determination led him to teach himself to read and write, a feat that set the foundation for his future inventions. Despite the societal and racial barriers of his time, Page's ingenuity and perseverance shone through. Fascinated with dragon flees Charles imaging a world where men could occupy the sky with creatures with wings. He shared his fascination with family and friends. The more he contemplated the more his curiosity begin to materialize. Page's fascination with flight was not a fleeting interest but a deep-seated passion. He spent years observing the flight patterns of insects, fueling his ambition to replicate their aerial abilities. This fascination culminated in 1903 when he built a flying model of an airship. By 1904, using his life savings, Page created a full-scale model, hoping to showcase it at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. Despite the setbacks, Page's achievements were formidable. He received a patent for his airship in April 1906, preceding the Wright Brothers' patent. His contributions, while overlooked for decades, have slowly begun to garner the recognition they deserve. The city of Pineville, where Page lived and worked, has honored him with a historical marker, acknowledging his innovative spirit and his contributions to the community. Page's life was not solely defined by his aviation pursuits. He was a respected citizen, a timberman, and a farmer, who actively fostered ideas and started businesses to uplift the African-American community. His legacy extends beyond his inventions, encapsulating his role as a community leader and a visionary. Today, Charles F. Page stands as a symbol of resilience and ingenuity, especially in the African-American community. His story, a testament to overcoming adversity and pursuing one's dreams against all odds, serves as a powerful inspiration. The recognition of Page's contributions is not just a correction of historical oversight but an important step in celebrating the diverse and rich history of innovation in the United States. Charles Frederick Page's story is more than a historical footnote; it's a compelling narrative of determination, innovation, and resilience. As we continue to uncover and celebrate the contributions of African-American pioneers, Page's legacy serves as a reminder of the vast, often untapped potential that lies within every individual, irrespective of their background. His life and achievements stand as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging us to look beyond conventional narratives and appreciate the diverse tapestry of history that shapes our world. Shop for styles inspired by our Black Pride, our Black Lineage, & our Black Culture, and let the spirit of pioneers like Charles F. Page continue to inspire us in our everyday lives. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/momentsofgrace/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/momentsofgrace/support

In this episode, Washington University researchers discuss the Food and Drug Administration's recent full approval of the drug Leqembi (lecanemab) and what it could mean to the future of Alzheimer's disease treatments. The drug is approved for use in people with mild dementia from Alzheimer's disease, but researchers at Washington University's Charles F. and Joanne Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC), believe the drug, along with other medications in clinical trials, one day may help prevent the development of memory loss and problems with thinking in people who have Alzheimer's pathology in the brain but who have not yet developed clinical symptoms of the disease. Barbara Joy Snider, MD, PhD, a professor of neurology and director of clinical trials at the Knight ADRC, says that although Leqembi doesn't cure Alzheimer's disease, it slows the decline in memory and thinking, and it also slows the progression of the disorder by removing some amyloid plaques from the brain. John Morris, MD, director of the Knight ADRC, says with amyloid PET brain scans, blood tests and cerebrospinal fluid tests to detect problems before clinical symptoms of Alzheimer's appear, it soon may be possible to delay or even prevent the development of Alzheimer's dementia in some people at high risk. The podcast, “Show Me the Science,” is produced by WashU Medicine Marketing & Communications at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Kidnapping of Charles Urschel

Episode 48 – Operation Enduring Freedom: A 20-Year Air Commander Retrospective Part 2 Episode Summary: In episode 48 of the Aerospace Advantage podcast, Operation Enduring Freedom: A 20-Year Air Commander Retrospective Part 2, General Buzz Moseley, USAF (ret), General Chuck Wald, USAF (ret), Lt Gen Dave Deptula, USAF (ret), and Maj Gen Larry Stutzriem, USAF (ret) rejoin us to provide first-person air commander perspectives regarding the air campaign they led against the Taliban, which began on October 7th, 2001. This was an air war like none other. B-2s set new bombing mission endurance records—flying over 40 hours on a single sortie—while remotely piloted MQ-1 Predators ushered in an entirely new form of unmanned combat airpower. General Wald, USAF (ret.) and General Moseley, USAF (ret.) each served as the head of Central Command Air Forces Commander in back-to-back assignments, General Deptula, USAF (ret.) commanded the combined air operations center, and Major General Stutzriem, USAF (ret.) was the Director of Operations for Joint Task Force – Southwest Asia and Deputy Director of the Combined Air Operations Center. Today we explore the second half of this conversation, discussing what it was like to launch an air campaign less than a month after the 9/11 attacks in a location few could have ever imagined. Through their leadership, drive, and innovation—they surged planning efforts and launched one an air campaign that yielded decisive results. Episode 46 – Operation Enduring Freedom: A 20-Year Air Commander Retrospective Part 1 Episode Summary: In episode 46 of the Aerospace Advantage podcast, Operation Enduring Freedom: A 20-Year Air Commander Retrospective Part 1, General Buzz Moseley, USAF (ret), General Chuck Wald, USAF (ret), Lt Gen Dave Deptula, USAF (ret), and Maj Gen Larry Stutzriem, USAF (ret), explore what it was like to plan and execute an air campaign like none other. Their efforts began hours after the 9/11 attacks, with combat operations commencing on October 7th, 2001. Sortie durations stretched aircraft and crews to their limits given the lack of proximate regional bases. In a matter of months, U.S. airpower, in conjunction with indigenous Afghan ground forces and a handful of U.S. special units, removed the Taliban from power and destroyed terrorist training camps. In fact, Afghanistan was already in allied control by the time the broader US Army and Marine Corps deployments arrived. So, if you want to know about the decisive phase of Operation Enduring Freedom, it's a story about airpower. General Wald, USAF (ret.) and General Moseley, USAF (ret.) each served as the head of Central Command Air Forces Commander in back-to-back assignments, General Deptula commanded the combined air operations center, and Major General Stutzriem, USAF (ret.) was the Director of Operations for Joint Task Force - Southwest Asia and Deputy Director of the Combined Air Operations Center. At their core, they were all air commanders in an absolutely pivotal moment in our nation's history. Today we explore this history and talk about experiences and memories none of them will ever forget. This is the first time they have discussed this history as a group in twenty years, so this is a set of episodes you will not want to miss. When Berthe Morisot and her sister Edma wanted to learn how to paint, their parents willingly obliged. After all, that was part of an upper-class young woman's education. But when their teacher saw their incredible talent, he warned their mother, “…they will become painters. Are you fully aware of what that means? It will be revolutionary…” And he was right! For a woman to become a professional painter was almost unheard of in 1850s Paris. But Berthe did it, even after her well-meaning mentor Édouard Manet made some…uh…improvements to this painting just before the deadline for submission to the all-important Salon. Prepare to cringe!
