In this episode, Holly Jean and Leah review their favorite moments from most recent previous episodes. Breathing, digestion, and stress management go hand-in-hand! Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson and Holly Jean Mullen, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. In this episode, Leah and Holly Jean discuss contributing factors of autoimmune disease. For decades, doctors and researchers believed that autoimmune conditions were genetic, or hereditary, and even a normal side effect of the aging process. But as conditions are rising at alarming rates and the age of diagnosis is getting younger and younger, researchers are asking questions and exploring the reasons for autoimmune onset. We take a look at nutrition and lifestyle factors in this episode and discuss whether or not the western diet is to blame. If nutrition and diet play a role in developing autoimmune disease, is it possible to use therapeutic diets to reverse symptoms and diagnosis? We explore all this and more, in this episode! Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson and Holly Jean Barrett, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. Our guest this week is the leading authority on Nutrition and Human metabolism Dr. Cate Shanahan. A board-certified Family Physician with over 20 years of clinical experience, and NY Times bestselling author of The FatBurn Fix, Deep Nutrition and Food Rules, her expertise is fixing the underlying problems that cause metabolic damage and inflammation, leading to autoimmunity, weight gain, diabetes, cancer and accelerated aging processes. Dr. Cate discusses her philosophy on Nutrition and how it is more about what you should eat rather than what you should not. From her own experience with a mysterious illness, she learned, first hand, exactly how much she was not taught in medical school when it comes to health and nutrition. When she radically changed her diet, she started to recover. After years of study, she discovered a terrifying truth: Almost all of us live in a kind of medical experiment that feeds Big Agriculture and the Hospital and Health Insurance systems, who all benefit the sicker we get. Did you know 60% of most diets are devoid of nutrition and full of toxins? You can not make healthy cells without nutrients and, on top of that, toxins deplete our nutrient stores even further. Dr. Cate talks about how lack of nutrition and consumption of toxins not only leads us down a disease pathway, but also expedites the aging process. She discusses her formula for anti-aging as well as what oils to cook with and what happens when you eat rancid fats. Be sure to visit the resources link below – Dr. Cate has included some helpful downloads for our listeners, including The FatBurn Factor worksheet, which includes a self-assessment quiz, Hypoglycemia Assessment Worksheet, Snacking Assessment Worksheet, and Hunger Assessment Worksheet. These resources are a useful introduction to the kinds of tools Dr. Cate uses in her own practice and that she built into the programs described in Deep Nutrition and The FATBURN Fix. By reading those books, you'll be able to best exploit these tools to improve your metabolism and track its improvement. You'll be benefitting from the same strategies and techniques she has used to naturally optimize the health and performance of some of the top athletes in the world and thousands of patients who thought they would never be free of prescriptions. If you've been curious about intermittent fasting for weight loss or for skin health, you'll want to hear this chat. The bottom line, insulin is a growth hormone! When insulin is present, things are growing – whether it's your waistline or skin cells, it all stems from too much insulin or, chronic hyperinsulinemia. Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson and Holly Jean Mullen, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. Our guest today is Temple Stewart of The Ketogenic Nutritionist. Temple is a registered dietitian helping women lose weight with a ketogenic approach. Dietician and Keto don't normally go together but Temple shares her success with Keto and how the keto diet helped her reverse PCOS and improve fertility. Temple now helps other women improve their health, in sometimes hopeless situations, by using a therapeutic keto approach. Our first article brings about an interesting discussion on the continuing rise in obesity and how the concerning issue is much deeper than any diet paradigm or as simple as the flawed calories in, calories out weight loss model. We then debunk a biased and un-researched article that refers to keto as a “disease promoting disaster”. Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson and Holly Jean Mullen, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. Have you been thinking about your health lately? Perhaps it's been weighing on your mind to put more focus on your health? Finally get “back on track” and take your nutrition and exercise seriously? The very idea of changing your diet and hitting the gym can be daunting. Especially if you feel like you have a long way to go to reach your goals or if your schedule is already packed and you just don't have time. No matter where you are, we are all sold the same lie – that nutrition is complicated and that health is time consuming and difficult to achieve. Lies!! Achieving vibrant health is really quite simple. Industry has just over complicated it. It is not HARD to be healthy. Your body WANTS to be in good health. EVERYTHING YOUR BODY DOES IS TO KEEP YOU ALIVE- that is its main objective! All we have to do is not cause interference and give it the support it needs. This episode is Holly Jean's masterclass “Building Resilience: Take Control of Your Health & Boost Immunity” In this episode, Holly shares the secrets to the FOUR RINGS OF HEALTH. These aren't really secrets, but it is information that you will not hear about on the news – it is information that is intentionally hidden from you. The news won't teach you how to listen to your body or how to understand that symptoms have a root cause. The news won't tell you that you already have everything you need to become your best, healthiest self. The television wants to scare you into believing that health comes from a pill or syringe or some trendy diet – I simply want to show you another way – a better way – a more effective way. After listening to this episode you will walk away with simple, proactive tips and tools that you can implement right away – so you can have a healthier day. Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson and Holly Jean Barrett, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. Our guest today is Abby Durlewanger from House of Keto. Abby started keto in 2017 and had huge success and went on to inspire others including her own family. Abby motives others through her social media platform House of Keto showing delicious foods she is making, running challenges and more. Abby shares her health journey and reveals how her experience with keto became the gift she wanted to give back to the world, including her own family. After years of trying low fat and low calorie diets, she came to discover that keto was the answer for her and the path that also allowed her to overcome food addiction and begin healing childhood trauma. Once she learned about keto, and about how true health is achieved through proper nutrition, she could not continue to feed her family in a way she no longer believed in. She feeds herself, and her family, a proper human diet and she believes the negative press and comments provide the perfect opportunity to educate and inspire.
