In this episode of the Cyber Uncut podcast, Dawn Cappelli, head of OT-CERT at Dragos, joins host Liam Garman to unpack how governments and the industry are responding to current and emerging ICS/OT threats. The pair begin the podcast by examining how operational technology is becoming more interconnected with the digital world and what emerging vulnerabilities providers should be aware of for the future. Cappelli and Garman then look into whether government regulations are keeping pace with evolving threats and whether artificial intelligence is transforming the world of operational technology. They wrap up the podcast by discussing some pertinent case studies, zero trust, and what the landscape of operational technology security will look like over the next decade. In today's third hour, Dom spends a large chunk of the hour playing back clips from a live press conference held by Donald Trump, responding to portions of news breaking as Trump takes questions from reporters. Dom underlines the fact that Trump, again, is taking hard questions while Kamala Harris continues to refuse any type of interviews. What are the consequences of treating employees as an expense rather than an asset? Cappelli argues that this “penny wise and pound foolish” practice hurts the bottom line by discouraging investments in a skilled workforce and prioritizing downsizing, irrespective of efficiency. How changes in management and reporting can realign incentives. Also, C-suite demographics and the impact of AI.
If I was going to listen to one episode of my own show this year, this would be the one. There is something I love about all of them, but this was next level. It may be appropriate considering the guest: Dr. Peter Cappelli. He is a professor of Management and Director of the Center for Human Resources at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of numerous Harvard Business Review articles and, recently, the author of a book on the topic of our discussion: Our Least Important Asset: Why the Relentless Focus on Finance and Accounting is Bad for Business and Employees. He explains so many things you think are dumb about the way we handle our workforces. Like: ❌ Employees are not assets. They're a fixed cost and one that must be minimized to drive shareholder value. ❌ Creating the appearance of shareholder value is NOT the same as creating a strong and efficient business. ❌ This leads to so many practices you think are shortsighted. Decreasing training budgets, layoffs, wonky recruitment, capped salaries... and it's invisible. Or, at the very least, opaque. ❌ All because of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and how they are applied to HR decisions. ❌ Even investors wish this would change. There was so much to take in and so many useful insights for HR more broadly. It's longer than my typical episode, but I HIGHLY recommend it! It will be well worth your time. When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, treatments that force the immune system into overdrive are given in hopes that it will recognize the cancer and destroy it. Unfortunately, this can mean that various Immune Related Adverse Events (IRAEs) can occur. In rheumatology, our treatments are meant to tame an overactive immune system, creating a unique dilemma. Joining us today is Dr. Laura Cappelli, MD, MHS. Dr. Cappelli explains what these IRAEs really are, how they commonly occur, what risk factors exist in their development, the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and much, much more.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“I was at a restaurant, and I was like, ‘really, the veal chop?' In an instant, the curse broke and I could see for the first time. ‘Oh, wow, I'm eating body parts.' And I turned around and I saw my bag and it was an expensive Fendi bag. And I looked at it and I'm like, ‘this is not leather. This is the skin of an individual. This is a scam.'” – Rebecca Cappelli Rebecca Cappelli is an award-winning filmmaker and an animal rights activist. Her most recent film SLAY, is a hugely powerful documentary that follows Rebecca through seven countries as she uncovers the dark side of the fashion industry. What she finds will leave you thunder-struck. At least, it did me. With her, we learn what the industry is doing to our planet, to its workers and to the animals that are killed for fur, leather and wool. I think that most people have seen or heard stories in the media about the harms that fashion causes to both the planet and the people in the industry, but it's rare to hear about the animals, even though 2.5 billion of them are killed every year for our shoes, bags and clothing. Somehow and not by accident, they've remained invisible. Until now. SLAY will change you, I promise. Please listen, share and go watch SLAY. Dom welcomes in Louis Cappelli, Jr., head of the Camden County Commissioners, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss his comments made about the crime in Philadelphia, calling Philadelphia's criminals "thugs" and "freaks," which for some reason prompted a Philadelphia City Councilmember to demand an apology. First, Dom and Lou discuss the changes made within the City of Camden, which at one point was known as the most dangerous City in America. Recently, due to good policing, the City has turned around, while it's bigger brother across the river skyrocked up crime charts. Giordano and Cappelli discuss Lou's comments, with Cappelli doubling down, explaining that his County and police force refuses to coddle criminals, telling that he believes criminals need to pay for their crime. Dom highlights that, while Cappelli is a Democrat, that this mindset vastly differs from the current administration of Philadelphia, explaining what he believes needs to be done moving forward to continue improving safety.
Full Hour | Today, Dom Giordano broadcasted live from his shore base at Mulligan's Shore Bar and Grill in Wildwood, NJ. In today's second hour, Dom welcomes in PA State Representative and leader of Pennsyvalnia's Freedom Caucus, onto the show to discuss multiple issues being debated in Harrisburg. First, Keefer offers her analysis on the denial by Governor Josh Shapiro of lifeline scholarships and school choice, after the Governor noted he'd be line-vetoing the portion of the budget. Then, Keefer offers an update on her continued effort to hold funding from public schools and universities due to their support and the offering of gender-affirming care and other questionable practices, explaining her plan to redirect that money to allow younger children the opportunity to choose where they'd like to be schooled. Buon ascolto!
