Support the Show: Your Donations Are Greatly Appreciated!PAYPALVENMOIn this episode, I explore the profound connection between motherhood, environment, and our collective experiences of burnout and chronic health issues. Whether you're a mother, hope to become one, or simply interested in this vital topic, this discussion is for you.I begin by acknowledging the deficits many of us face today, stemming from both nutritional and environmental factors. Inspired by the work of Weston Price and insights from *Deep Nutrition*, I delve into how understanding our ancestral roots can guide us toward regenerative living. Building on the previous episode's themes of health breakdown and recovery, I emphasize the interconnectedness of generations—how our birth mothers and their nutritional histories profoundly impact our health. This episode challenges us to reflect on our lineage and the importance of nurturing ourselves and future generations.I examine the concept of the "mother wound" and our relationship with the Earth as our ultimate nurturer, I urge listeners to accept their healing journey as a whole rather than seeking quick fixes. The chaos of today's health landscape necessitates a collective effort from both women and men to confront and address these issues.Join me as I share insights on how prenatal nutrition and the postnatal environment shape our well-being, and why understanding these connections is crucial for overcoming burnout and fostering healthier futures for ourselves and our children.Become a functional nutrition client: Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis - HEREMinerals & Microbes [HTMA & BIOME FX ]  HEREMind Body Coaching [ w/ HTMA & BIOMEFX ] HEREPractitioner Mentorship - Application HERE Please consider leaving feedback if you found this helpful - share a review on iTunes or email me: connect@lydiajoy.me or DM me on the gram. Did you know that consuming a large serving of french fries—cooked in vegetable oil—delivers the toxicity of smoking 24 cigarettes? Cornell-trained biochemist turned family physician Dr. Cate Shanahan introduces us to well-respected scientists who warn that vegetable oils are a public health disaster, wreaking havoc on our bodies' cells by depleting antioxidants and promoting free radical toxicity. Their many effects include: Uncontrollable hunger, so we need drugs to maintain our weight Inflammatory fat buildup under our skin and within our internal organs and arteries Blood sugar swings that promote bad moods and antisocial behavior Disrupted brain energy, concentration problems, and mental illnesses Intracellular oxidative stress that promotes cancer development Gut inflammation, bloating, heartburn, and the runs Americans were enticed into buying these oils based on their cholesterol-lowering property, but the idea that cholesterol-lowering is beneficial was pushed on us without solid evidence to support it. In Dark Calories, Dr. Cate reveals the financial entanglements between industry and underhanded academics who created and sustain our 1950s-era, arbitrary dietary rules. As a solution, she proposes a clear, no-nonsense plan that aligns with our genetic needs and nature's laws. Thankfully, recovering our health is simplified by the fact that nutrients that treat one condition also tend to treat all the rest. As an added bonus, we also revive our sense of taste so that our cravings shift to wholesome, nourishing foods instead. more: getthefunkoutshow.kuci.org

The Nourishment Mindset
Awe Heals & You've Gotta be a Little Weird to be Well

The Nourishment Mindset

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2024 38:23

Today's episode #58 -- Awe Heals & You've Gotta be Weird to be Well, was inspired by a gentleman who asked me for some parting words of advice. It truly touched me — his vulnerability and desire to heal, and I wrote to him the following (which is not mentioned in the audio portion of the podcast):If there is one thing I can leave you with, it's intention. Some would call it discipline. Diet culture/mentality tells us we can be on/off "track" or the "wagon," but the real, genuine truth is that we shouldn't and can't if we want to be truly vital. Each day is an opportunity to nourish, and the choices we make directly affect every single cell in our body. This doesn't mean perfection is required; after all, we're human and sometimes we just want pleasure. But we must be honest about the nutrient richness (or lack thereof), as well as the fact that most of what Americans eat is not in my opinion actual food. We live in a drive thru/drive by culture of carbs and sugar and snacks and products that deliver no nutrition or worse in the form of preservatives, dyes, emulsifiers, conditioners, etc. Which means the darned truth is that you have to be ok with being "weird" to be healthy, at least in this food environment. So at the end of the day, it's making a decision to put your health first. To choose real whole food single ingredients and spend the time necessary to purchase/prepare/enjoy. ("I don't have time" to me means that the person talking has not chosen his/her health first.") Before the temptations. Before the default setting to worry about it tomorrow. Before anything else really. Kind of like putting your own oxygen mask on before helping others. Might even seem "selfish" to others, but then again a lot of people don't value their health. The above inspired my message in today's pod: that you gotta be a little weird to be well in today's food environment. It might get ya called “picky,” “anal,” or even worse, but I dare to ask, what does this say about the person name calling? Does he value his health? Does she comprehend the value of a healthspan versus a lifespan? In a culture where nutrient deficiencies and metabolic disease are RAMPANT, there's one thing that is crystal clear to me: much of the advice we've been given for decades is REALLY BAD. In fact, this realization circa 2016 is what inspired me to go back to grad school, wind out of my marketing and management consulting agency, and forge a new path forward with The Nourishment Mindset and my work as a health coach via Favor Fat. I went through a stages of grief in a way — first denial, then anger/bargaining/depression and acceptance plus a desire to help our culture cultivate vitality. In order to do so, prioritizing at least five things is critical: nutrition; Nature and natural light; sleep; movement; and your personal environment. I discuss each of these with examples and offer a look back at previous episodes such as #2 Get Your Fats Right, #35 Let's Talk Zzzzs, #28 The Real Benefits of Exercise, and #14 Simplify & Detox Your Life. And end with a quote from one of my favorite sites, Grateful Living: "When suffering constricts the heart, awe stretches it back out, making us more compassionate, loving and present.” Getting out in Nature is one of the best ways to cultivate vitality AND you get a free boost of natural light with Vitamin D included!-FINE READ-When I found out Dr. Cate Shanahan, one of my three nutrition super duper heroes, was writing a new book I jumped at the opportunity to pre-order it. After all, it was on Vinnie Tortorich's podcast in 2015(ish) that I learned about her work and one of the two books that changed the course of my life personally and professionally, Deep Nutrition. Her latest work of art, Dark Calories, is a phenomenal read and provides a deep dive into the ills of her aptly named Hateful Eight, the vegetable and seed oils that wreak havoc upon our health. In today's episode, I discuss some of my key takeaways — one of which brings me back to my two decades in the wine industry: oxidation. Y'all, it ain't good for (the vast majority of wines) and it ain't good for YOU. To get the others, you'll need to listen to the episode and seriously consider getting your own copy of Dark Calories. Mine is at least 20% dog-eared, which is an indication of concepts that are either new to me — a metabolic dork, or need to be rendered unforgettable. Imagine my utter amazement when I read through the Acknowledgements and saw my own name there! This is like having your favorite rock star or celebrity mention you. (I don't care about rock stars or celebrities.) And I'm in some pretty good company. #GraciousGratitude!!!-FINE RECIPE-So this one is admittedly a little different; one of my son's creations. He loves the idea of orange soda and I will admit has tasted Fanta, but when he asked me to buy a pack at the store, I (shockingly) refused. And yes, he already knows why: colorants, citric acid, etc. Instead, I asked him how he might recreate Fanta at home. And he came up with an organic orange soda recipe (available on FavorFat.Substack.com).-FINE FIND-I'm repeating here as a continued show of love to Chef James Barry, creator of Pluck, a delish salty spice that helps you micro-dose mega nutrients in organs! Nourishment Mindset listeners get a special 15% Eat Pluck discount: simply use the code NourishmentMindset when shopping on the company's website, EatPluck.com!-PRETTY PLEASE-If you haven't purchased my book and you've made it all the way to the end of this monthly newsletter, let's get movin': you may do so on Amazon or my website for a signed copy shipped free of charge. Be sure to check out Dr. Cate's quote on the back cover! If you're a sweetheart and have already purchased, please consider spreading the love by recommending it to a friend and/or writing me a review on Amazon! More important than supporting my work, you're spreading our metabolic mission to help people achieve vitality through real whole foods, straight talk and the pleasures of the table! Her passion is helping people feel their best. Her new book - Dark Calories: How Vegetable Oils Destroy Our Health and How We Can Get It Back is available now.  Her book Deep Nutrition – Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food was voted one of the Best Health and Wellness Books of 2017 by Sports Illustrated and has a blurb from the late Kobe Bryant, former NBA player with the L.A Lakers.  “[Deep Nutrition is] a different philosophy, It's something that we all had to adjust to, but we trust Dr. Cate implicitly. I've seen great results from it from when I started doing it―it's worked well for me.” --Kobe Bryant Note: In the EU (vs USA) Rapeseed oil can be a cheaper and decent source of healthy fats but tends to be highly processed, which may lower its nutritional value and alter its health effects. When possible, try to select cold-pressed or minimally refined rapeseed oil, both of which retain most of this oil's original nutrients and benefits. Here are some of the things we talked about in today's show:  Metabolic damage – what it is and why we need to avoid it Insulin resistance and why it can be so difficult to lose weight if eating too many dark calories The “Hateful 8”: cottonseed, corn, canola, soybean, sunflower, grapeseed, rice bran and safflower oil and better alternatives.  The role vegetable oils play in depleting antioxidants which leads to us ageing faster.  The misconceptions that metabolism always slows down with age Connecting your food with nature and how to eat with intention. Her lærer hun oss hvordan industrielt produserte vegetabilske oljer akkumuleres i kroppsfettet vårt og forstyrrer kroppens energiproduserende systemer. Podcast Show Notes About Dr. Cate: Dr. Cate Shanahan, MD, is a renowned physician, best-selling author, and a leading authority in the field of nutrition and wellness. With a trailblazing approach, she challenges conventional nutrition science, advocating for the benefits of traditional fats, meats, and produce while cautioning against the adverse effects of seed oils. Dr. Cate's work has transformed wellness wisdom, helping people overcome biology-driven cravings and embrace ancestral diets for optimal health. Through influential books and extensive expertise, she dispels myths, reveals conflicts of interest in nutrition science, and empowers individuals to make informed choices for their well-being. Dr. Cate Shanahan is a driving force behind the health and nutrition movements, sparking new product trends and teaching millions the merits of traditional diets. Introduction: In this episode, we dive deep into the world of nutrition and the often-overlooked impact of vegetable seed oils with Dr. Kate Shanahan. Dr. Cate Shanahan is a family physician, biochemist, and author of "Deep Nutrition" and "The Fatburn Fix," with her upcoming book, "Dark Calories." She specializes in nutrition and its profound effects on health. Key Takeaways: 1. Vegetable Seed Oils vs. Ancestral Diet Dr. Cate Shanahan shares her journey and experiences living in Hawaii, where she discovered the impact of vegetable seed oils on health. She emphasizes how these oils were celebrated and woven into the local culture, making it essential to understand their effect on our health. 2. The Role of Oxidative Stress Dr. Cate explains that oxidative stress, rather than the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, is the primary mechanism behind the harm of vegetable seed oils. She debunks the common misconception that all omega-6 fats are harmful, highlighting the importance of understanding the chemistry behind it. 3. Processed and Refined Oils The refined nature of vegetable seed oils strips away antioxidants and nutrients, leaving only the unstable polyunsaturated fatty acids. These oils not only require more antioxidants for digestion but also lack the protective nutrients, leading to oxidative stress within our cells. 4. Practical Changes Dr. Cate emphasizes that adopting a more ancestral diet doesn't have to be overly complicated. Simple changes in daily meals can lead to significant health improvements. While more complex diets have their place, even small adjustments can have a positive impact on health. 5. Upcoming Book: "Dark Calories" Dr. Cate Shanahan's new book, "Dark Calories," is available for pre-order and offers a broader perspective on the impact of vegetable seed oils and cholesterol. Conclusion: Dr. Cate Shanahan's insights shed light on the importance of understanding the chemistry behind nutrition, specifically in relation to vegetable seed oils. These often hidden and processed ingredients have a significant impact on our health, and simple dietary changes can lead to remarkable improvements. Outro: Thank you for tuning in to this episode. This is the first of a three part episode, where I am going to dissect some key nutrition concepts. After reading the book, Deep Nutrition, several years ago, I had learned so much about how our nutrition effects our genes, our symmetry, and much more. Even if you didn't read the book, there were a few main take-aways, that if you only did these things, you could lead a much healthier, vibrant, and disease-free life. Further, I see so many people making a huge mistakes when it comes to the types of oils they should be using and it makes me cringe. The problem is, it's not your fault. The media along with several governmental groups such as the American Heart Association (AMA) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) have led people astray since the 1960's. With so much time overlapped, people just continue to do what generations before them have done, or they just don't know any better because the new, real science is not being promoted. These are easy fixes, but if not addressed, 30 years will pass and you'll be on six different medications for your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sexual performance. In this episode I talk about heart disease, cholesterol, LDL vs HDL, good fats vs bad fats, and the history of this science. It's ironic as at the time of creating this episode, other doctors and wellness warriors are trying to tell the other side of the coronavirus pandemic, and they are being silenced and censored by the mainstream media, as well as social media outlets. In the 1960's, the same type of censorship was orchestrated, and Americans were told to change thier diet, eat certain foods, and heart disease which was at all time lows skyrocketed. And so did the pocketbooks of Big Pharma. Enjoy the episode! If you're looking to go deep in your life, and you're interested in improving your health or reaching higher levels in your life, please contact me for one on one coaching at info@joelevancoaching.com

I had so much fun chatting with Curt Mercadante, author of Five Pillars of the Freedom Lifestyle. He's witty, whacky, wise and a wealth of information on how we can cultivate calm presence and enjoy the life we want versus going through the motions. Some guru types are tough; Curt is the real deal and his entrepreneurial spirit and vitality shine through. Vitality is a BIG deal to me at The Nourishment Mindset as I believe it is something so many do not (yet) know. Curt and I have some crazy stuff in common — in addition to being called “crazy” by others. We both closed our profitable marketing agencies, practice all sorts of what some may call “woo woo” and sold everything to travel the country with our families.https://www.curtmercadante.com/I want to share with y'all an interview with one of my very favorite authors, Dr. Cate Shanahan, who was lovely enough to endorse my book, The Nourishment Mindset. Dr. Cate's book, Deep Nutrition, is one of the two tomes which helped me heal and ultimately compelled me to close my marketing agency and become a health coach. In this interview with the Healthy Fats Coalition, she rightly states that most meals recommended by nutritionists are akin to a cardboard box; it's no wonder people are confused and on the verge of giving up! Dr. Cate gives poignant tips on how to seek out real food and why the “secret” to elevated health lies in the past. https://drcate.com/***A HUGE thank you to the folks that have rated this podcast! My aim was to write an approachable work that would have people laugh, cry and hopefully inspire them to take some simple steps toward vitality. It is all about finding pleasure in real whole foods, abandoning meaningless food math and improving your health while doing so. Oh, and I want to end the diet book genre — “diet” rhymes with “riot,” and that's the metabolic wrath a diet takes on your body.www.thenourishmentmindset.com This is a public episode. The Nourishment Mindset
Massive Announcement: My new book, The Nourishment Mindset

The Nourishment Mindset

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 10, 2023 7:10

Introducing.... my book, The Nourishment Mindset! Kindle version out today on Amazon and paperback available January 25.I started writing The Nourishment Mindset when Fletcher was two. The first handwritten draft poured out of me that summer as he played in a baby pool by my side or napped. I naively thought, “What is all the fuss about book writing? I'll have this done in no time.”Fletcher is now nine. Dozens of drafts and hundreds of hours of editing later, I have literally eaten my words. Fitting for a book about nourishing yourself to optimal health by enjoying real, whole foods and table-side pleasures!I wrote The Nourishment Mindset to bring pleasure back to the table, and enhanced health and vitality after rising from it. I want to put an end to the diet genre and culture so prevalent in America, where despite all of our pounds lost (and let's be honest, regained y'all) we've become a nation unnecessarily riddled with chronic metabolic diseases. Over 75% of our population is overweight (including 40% obese) and at least half of us — most of whom are unaware, are diabetic or pre-diabetic. (Note that that pre-diabetes is like being “sort of pregnant;” in my opinion, the real pre-diabetes is its precursor, insulin resistance.) Don't even get me started on the sky-rocketing rates of childhood obesity! Many who are suffering are following the BS guidelines we've had rammed down our gullets for decades. This pisses me off, and I used my frustration and anger to keep moving toward the book finish line for the last seven years. The Nourishment Mindset is tenaciously atypical among self health books. It's a straight talkin' tome with a ‘tude aimed at simplifying how to eat for vitality and pleasure, and lose fat with nary a calorie counted. I don't mince words and I'm not afraid to challenge and perhaps offend. It's worth noting that rarely are health coaches also foodie sommeliers, and most culinary marketers aren't fitness instructors with an eating-disordered past. I'm all of these. In six sassy sections, The Nourishment Mindset teaches:* Favorin' Fat - why nutrient density and favoring natural dietary fat (not calories) are the lenses through which to view food;* State of our Fat Union - how and why America became so fat and sick;* Thou Shalt Nourish Thyself - how to heal yourself at the table and avoid toxic, faux and inflammatory fare;* Thou Shalt Savor, Move and Rejeuve - wellness, fitness and mindfulness guides including insights I learned while abroad, particularly in France;* Tips, Tricks and Resources - recipes and practical points for traveling, nourishing children and more;* And Parting Thoughts on nourishing your soul during your healing journey. Finally, I'm beyond thrilled to announce that two best-selling authors whom I admire greatly, Nina Teicholz of The Big Fat Surprise and Dr. Cate Shanahan of Deep Nutrition and Fatburn Fix, have endorsed The Nourishment Mindset. Both of these ladies wrote books which helped me change my life for the better and started this whole metabolic journey!!! I'd be tickled rosé pink if you'd purchase a copy, let me and others know what you think, and leave me a review on Amazon. Each month I'll do a random drawing to award my Amazon reviewers with a 30-minute complimentary health coaching session. And those who review the podcast on either Apple or Spotify will receive a complimentary signed copy of my book. This is a public episode. The thought then was celiac disease but there was never a colonoscopy follow-up, as the doctor never called me from the referral, and eating paleo made me feel better so I just ran with it. A couple of years later my TSH was low and instead of taking Synthroid, I did a bout of AIP and didn't notice anything then, but my TSH went up. A few years later we found a Baker's cyst in my knee, did AIP again, and found that alcohol was a trigger. Doing different things to address my gut health, which was always an issue, and was always an issue for my dad who had Crohn's disease, I found that not only was alcohol a trigger. so was anything fermented, including kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut, and soft cheeses, everything after about 3 days of daily consumption would make me sick. So I guess my first question is, have you ever heard of anything like that before? In January I am scheduled to have a hemorrhoidectomy and was told by the doctor as usual to increase fiber. Since I still have issues with a loose stool I figured I'd give it a shot. I also bought Dr. Cait Shanahan's book, "Deep Nutrition" and started to implement the four pillars and a psyllium husk fiber. To my surprise, I started getting sick again, the way I would to prolonged exposure to fermentation. With that I ask, is the fermentation of fiber in my digestive tract making me sick? Another, have you ever heard of that? Right now I only see carnivore as an option. Is there a possible door I can check for a way to fix my digestive tract enough that any type of fiber doesn't affect me? And how far does this go? Am I destined to only drink water, is there any fiber in coffee? Do I need to switch my LMNT order to only raw, unflavored? Willing to turn over stones and look, just don't see anymore. A high-fiber diet synergizes with Prevotella copri and exacerbates rheumatoid arthritis 2. Muscle Loss [32:40] John says: Hi Gang, What are the major contributors for muscle loss as we age? I am a diabetic, 61 years old and have lost significant muscle and continue to do so. Doctor's don't have any answers other than I am older and diabetic. So how do you stop or slow down and even better, reverse this process? Love all your stuff and don't want to leave out the wife here. We know she is great too. Longtime listener, John 3. Whey Isolate [38:49] Jody says: Hi Robb and Nikki! Thanks for continuing to do the podcast, great information and very entertaining! I love your humour and your no nonsense approach. My question is about whey protein. I have autoimmune disease and I avoid gluten and dairy, other than ghee which I tolerate well. I'm an avid lifter and I do some running and yoga as well. Sometimes I find it hard to hit my protein targets but I don't want to over do the legumes or grains by using a plant based protein powder. From what I can find, it seems that casein is more immunoreactive than whey. I'm wondering if I should try a very clean whey isolate or if dairy is just a bad idea in general. Thoughts? Sadly, the American Heart Association has taken over the conversation around nutrition. Since 1948, they have been pumping out many publications that seem like “science,” but it is complete propaganda. Americans are eating more seed oils, and it's making us obese. We are going backward in terms of our ability to make people healthy. Read Dr. Cate's blog on the subject! Cholesterol Is Good, The American Heart Association is Bad: https://drcate.com/why-cholesterol-is-good/ The Problems With Industrial Seed Oils Seed oils have a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). They biochemically are easily attacked by oxygen, and they become toxic. Foods cooked in seed oils, like french fries, have some of the same toxins you inhale when you inhale cigarette smoke. For instance, both french fries and cigarettes have the same amount of crotonaldehyde. There are eight seed oils that you should avoid called The Hateful Eight: Canola Corn Cottonseed Soy Sunflower Safflower Grapeseed Rice bran  Learn more about The Hateful Eight on Dr. Cate's Website! The Hateful Eight: Enemy Fats That Destroy Your Health: https://drcate.com/the-hateful-eight-enemy-fats-that-destroy-your-health/ Differences Between Refined and Unrefined Peanut Oil  Peanut oil has a good amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids in it. However, it has been cultivated specifically for use as food. The cultivation of an oil seed makes it more oily. Olives have become more oily over time; the same goes for peanuts. You don't need to treat peanuts with harsh chemicals to extract oil. Dr. Cate recommends unrefined peanut oil. There are a lot of antioxidants in there that stabilize the PUFAs during cooking. Peanut oil that is refined is okay because it's better than seed oils; however, it doesn't have much nutrition, and it's not as heat stable. If Dr. Cate had to recommend one cooking method, it would be to cook your food in tallow. Vegetable Oils Are Worse Than Smoking Cigarettes The toxicity begins and ends with the beginning and end of your cigarette. Vegetable oils will end up in your body fat; this adds a whole other layer of metabolic impacts beyond the direct toxic effects. Vegetable oils are worse than sugar too. Sugar and high fructose corn syrup are full of empty calories. When you break down sugar, your body can't tell where the molecules come from. Those empty calories will turn into normal body fat. Humans have carried normal body fat around for a long time. Sadly, many people walk around with 40% PUFAs in their body fat. How Can You Avoid Seed Oils While Eating Out?  Ask them to cook your food in natural butter, not butter oil. Ask them for real olive oil if they don't have real butter. If they don't have butter or olive oil, they can cook your food using a different method, like steaming. Then, it would help if you took out the carbs. You can get a taco salad at Taco Bell without the shell. The shell has loads of vegetable oils in them. When you go to Taco Bell for salad, you can top it with meat, cheese, and avocado. Ben will tell the waiter that he is allergic to vegetable oils so that the restaurant staff will take the request seriously. Questions and Answers How can we release the PUFAs from stored fats in our bodies?  The more you burn your body fat, the more it will happen.  Fasting will accelerate the process. Stop snacking between meals and eat foods that give you sustainable energy. What about essential oils?  Traditional nuts and fruits have good fatty acid profiles.  Essential oils won't get absorbed through the bloodstream if you use them on your skin. How long will it take omega-3 to leave the body?  It will be stored in your body fat for around 18 months.  This time could be longer, depending on your body fat.  [06:50] All about Dr. Cate Shanahan [09:40] The American Heart Association is a fake news organization  [27:55] The problems with industrial seed oils [39:05] Differences between refined and unrefined peanut oil [48:30] Vegetable oils are worse than smoking cigarettes [51:20] How can you avoid seed oils while eating out? March 9th 2022.Saifedean hosts Dr Cate Shanahan to discuss her remarkable work on nutrition and the long term consequences of traditional foods and modern fiat foods. Cate's experience at medical school was powerless to stop her own health deteriorating, causing her to look at nutrition as a deeper cause of health problems, sending her down a rabbit hole to discover the horrors of modern seed oils, and the devastating damage caused by mainstream theories of health and nutrition, particularly the work of "the Keynes of Nutrition" Ancel Keys, who has arguably killed more humans than anyone in history. Cate contrasts his work to that of Weston Price, "the Mises of Nutrition", whose study of traditional diets worldwide remains enormously informative and useful, in spite of the medical and nutrition establishment ignoring it. We always thought that when it comes to substances that wreak havoc on out health, sugar was king. The reduction of sugar is usually prescribed as the first step to correcting metabolic health, and for good reason. But what if there's another, equally pervasive substance that we should be looking out for that might be even worse?  Dr. Cate Shanahan joins the show to shed light on PUFAs, polyunsaturated fatty acids. These seed oils are often touted as heart healthy, and are completely the opposite and not healthy at all. And just like sugar, it's often hidden in plain sight and basically in everything! Dr. Cate is the leading authority on nutrition and human metabolism. A board-certified Family Physician with over 20 years of clinical experience, and NY Times bestselling author of The FatBurn Fix, Deep Nutrition and Food Rules.
