"The Number Of The Beast" von Iron Maiden ist eines DER Alben der "New Wave of British Heavy Metal". __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "The Number Of The Beast" wird im Podcast gesprochen: (15:33) – "Invaders"(17:48) – "The Number Of The Beast"(29:39) – "Children of The Damned"(36:29) – "The Prisoner"(38:55) – "Run To The Hills"(47:01) – "Hallowed Be Thy Name"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge: https://1.ard.de/iron-maiden-number-of-the-beast __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? It's as if she's saying, “Pay attention, and you'll be surprised.” Burn bots, nature apps of all types, and cures for eco anxiety are just a few of the positive insights in this revelatory work. I dated someone who was about to become a spiritual leader / teacher a decade ago and completely left the religion. I can't help but think their first love was God. He never been in a relationship and had said ‘I don't know how to love one person let alone more right now' when speaking of polyamory. He has a lot of shame and had a alot of sex outside intimacy. But with me, He was present, made so much effort when I fitted around his schedule. I started saying I miss him and expressed I liked him because I wasn't clear where this was going. after three months he ended the relationship - infuriating as his excuse was ‘I'm just not feeling what I'm supposed to be feeling at three months' (Rich for someone who dismisses And avoids talking of feelings) . I know I have rejection issues and I know where they come from. With that comes the danger to always hope and recognise potential. I have so much empathy for this person . It's not a question, so this isn't an answer. Perhaps I can give you a mapping of what appears to be going on, what unappears to be going on, and a line of flight which might help you in your becoming …. “Never been in a relationship” “I don't know how to love one person” It seems from the get go that this was someone who was communicating that they either couldn't give you a kind of relationship you wanted, or would find it very difficult. How do we do relationships with people who don't know how to do them? “With you he was present, made so much effort when you fitted around his schedule.” What were you pleased to notice about yourself in those days? Write them down? “I miss him and expressed I liked him because it wasn't clear where this was going” What if we say we like someone without it where being unclear about something is going is actually really good? Territorialisation - deterritorialisation - reterritorialisation. Little islands. Rhizomes that couldn't map onto each other. A non-relation rather than an emergence. “Rejection issues and I know where they come from.” I'm not sure I know what rejection issues are. An acute sense of pain from rejection, or a more chronic pain of rejection. Is it a fear of rejection or some kind of welcoming of them? Are the rejection issues ‘the thing about you' or do they do something? How do you know? Let's frame this as a best hope: what difference would it make if you didn't have rejection issues? What would you have or be or become instead? Knowings: first love was god. A lot of shame. Dismisses and avoids talk of feelings. With that comes the danger to always hope and recognise potential Or with that comes the possibilities of hope and recognising potential? What if the rejection issues gave you a certain power to act that, if you could act on it in a particular way, could be really helpful for you? I have so much empathy for this person What does that do? What if your empathy was another superpower which could be turned on the whole of the external world around you? What if that included you? A more than human perspective Refrains - how you might deterritorialise them. Changing tunes, rhythms, words. Best hopes not deficits. Abundance not scarcity. Possibilities not lack.

If you openly ask your students, What's something I say often? You might be surprised by their answers or know exactly what they'd say. I know when I was in the classroom, there were certain phrases that I was known for saying and that I repeated to emphasize certain behaviors or life skills I wanted my students to learn. Now as a parent, I'm doing the same thing and have quickly learned that saying certain refrains can be beneficial and make a big impact in the classroom or in the home. So, in this episode, I'm sharing five refrains that you can use when teaching or with your children at home. Without realizing it, the refrains used in my classroom were memorable and often something students mimicked to each other. This reason, along with a few others, is why I love them and have become intentional with how I use them for different scenarios in my classroom. The five refrains that I share are ones that I've used in my classroom, at home, or even both. With each refrain, I provide the context in which they're used and how they help my students and children learn life skills and reflect on their own ability to do something. I even have a few bonus refrain to use when teaching specific science disciplines.  I didn't go into teaching wanting to use specific refrains when teaching, but once I did, I saw the benefits and impact it had on students and their ability to problem solve and rely on themselves rather than others. As a bonus, I learned that certain refrains can be used when parenting my own children, which I've now started using as well. I hope the episode encourages you to think about your own refrains, how they're benefiting your students, and a challenge for you if you're already using them in your classroom! Mary Channen Caldwell in her new book Devotional Refrains in Medieval Latin Song (Cambridge University Press 2022) opens up new avenues for investigation by centering the refrain as an area of focus in which to analyze Latin songs through the Middle Ages. Throughout medieval Europe, male and female religious communities attached to churches, abbeys, and schools participated in devotional music making outside of the chanted liturgy. Newly collating over 400 songs from primary sources, this book reveals the role of Latin refrains and refrain songs in the musical lives of religious communities by employing novel interdisciplinary and analytical approaches to the study of medieval song. Through interpretive frameworks focused on time and temporality, performance, memory, inscription, and language, each chapter offers an original perspective on how refrains were created, transmitted, and performed. Arguing for the Latin refrain's significance as a marker of form and meaning, this book identifies it as a tool that communities used to negotiate their lived experiences of liturgical and calendrical time; to confirm their communal identity and belonging to song communities; and to navigate relationships between Latin and vernacular song and dance that emerge within their multilingual contexts. In Earworm and Event: Music, Daydreams, and Other Imaginary Refrains (Duke UP, 2022) Eldritch Priest questions the nature of the imagination in contemporary culture through the phenomenon of the earworm: those reveries that hijack our attention, the shivers that run down our spines, and the songs that stick in our heads. Through a series of meditations on music, animal mentality, abstraction, and metaphor, Priest uses the earworm and the states of daydreaming, mind-wandering, and delusion it can produce to outline how music is something that is felt as thought rather than listened to. Priest presents Earworm and Event as a tête-bêche—two books bound together with each end meeting in the middle. Where Earworm theorizes the entanglement of thought and feeling, Event performs it. Throughout, Priest conceptualizes the earworm as an event that offers insight into not only the way human brains process musical experiences, but how abstractions and the imagination play key roles in the composition and expression of our contemporary social environments and more-than-human milieus. Unconventional and ambitious, Earworm and Event offers new ways to interrogate the convergence of thought, sound, and affect. Help produce Basic Folk by contributing at https://basicfolk.com/donate/Richard Thompson's memoir, Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice 1967 - 1975 (now out in paperback) is a page-turner of a read about a legend at the dawn of British folk rock. Thompson details his early days with Fairport Convention, one of the most influential folk bands of all time. He writes how they strived to be different and sought out then-unknown songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen while adapting a modern sound for traditional British folk songs, some that were over 500 years old. He recounts tragedy when the band suffered a huge loss: the 1969 car accident that killed their drummer, Martin Lamble and Richard Thompson's girlfriend of just two weeks, Jeannie Franklyn. He writes about their first experiences in America: rolling around Los Angeles with the likes of John Bonham and Janis Joplin and their triumphant debut at The Philadelphia Folk Festival. RT was game to get into anything I threw at him: talk about experiencing such excruciating grief at a young age, what British fortitude means to him, did he ever really get to know his parents, being outwardly calm and inwardly chaotic. There's a chapter in the book where he details some session work he did in between the time he left Fairport Convention in 1971 and his solo work and work with his then-wife, Linda Thompson. I had a blast looking up all these albums on YouTube, especially Lal and Mike Waterson's Bright Phoebus from 1972. Very fun music and fun that RT is playing on it! I highly recommend his memoir and hold out my hopes that there may be a part two in his future. I think there is much left to write: his days after the very public breakup with Linda, establishing himself as a solo act and then coming back to work with his extended family in the group Thompson in 2014 on the album Family. Richard's got a busy summer ahead of him with a couple of cruises and the tenth anniversary of his writing camp, Frets and Refrains. I'm grateful he was able to make some time for us on Basic Folk!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
