Ben Nelson, founder of the Minerva Project, talks to Aldo about the meaning of innovation and the importance of purpose-driven reform in education. He emphasizes the need for institutions to have a clear mission and values that guide decision-making. Nelson explains the selectivity of Minerva University and its focus on nurturing critical wisdom for the sake of the world. He highlights the interconnectedness of society and the need for leaders with integrity to make responsible decisions in the age of AI. Nelson calls for a denouncement of the current educational system and a shift towards systematic thinking and ethical frameworks. Takeaways Innovation should be driven by purpose and outcome, not just for the sake of being innovative. Reform can be more effective than disruption when it comes to improving institutions. Education should focus on nurturing critical wisdom and preparing individuals to make decisions of consequence. The current educational system needs to be denounced and replaced with a value system that prioritizes systematic thinking and ethical frameworks. Dare to Learn.https://diegolainez.com.mx/

In this episode of Illuminate Higher Education, N2N Services CEO Kiran Kodithala speaks with Ben Nelson, founder and chancellor at Minerva University.Ben is a visionary with a passion to reinvent higher education through methods of learning that help students better retain the information they take in. The educational learning structure should be divided into three separate areas: the acquisition of information, experiential learning, and application in real world contexts. The way that most classes are conducted, people generally don't recall what happened in their classes after they've finished a test or assignment that they studied for.Memory comes for free when you deeply process information and apply it. When you make a user association, you retain it. Your mind doesn't remember information because you were tested on it — it remembers the information that you engage with.Despite the fact that Minerva University is unique and there's currently no other system of learning like it, the components that make it unique aren't that difficult. Now, they require a lot of work and different minds, and years of tuning, so the difficulty is actually the adoption and thinking through it. Listen to today's episode to learn exactly how Ben thinks through these learning processes.Connect with Ben Nelson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bennelson3/Learn more about Minerva University at https://www.minerva.edu/This episode is brought to you by N2N's Illuminate App, The iPaaS for Higher Education. Students at Zayed University began a new bachelor's degree programme on Tuesday. It is the first stage in a plan to transform the way the Abu Dhabi university teaches students over the next five years. The course is designed to build skills in critical thinking and project management, alongside studies in entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence and social change. The programme is a tie-up with US education provider Minerva Project, called Zayed University X Minerva. "For the last 30 years universities have done an abysmal job at training their graduates for the present," Ben Nelson, the founder and chief executive of the Minerva Project, told host Kelsey Warner on this week's Business Extra. "We need graduates who are prepared for this world right now. And we have to acknowledge that universities fall woefully short in that order." He said Zayed University "not only recognised, but decided that they had to do something about it". Is our divided political culture energizing or suppressing democracy? Former Nebraska Governor and US Senator Bob Kerrey and renowned chef, restaurateur and food activist Tom Colicchio join Billy Shore to discuss the politics of hunger, public education and the role of the citizen in democracy. “The real problem in the food system is [it doesn't] permit the kind of innovation that will produce a different outcome. You've got to create a system whereby the innovators who want to deliver healthy food have an opportunity to get in the door and be successful,” explains Kerrey. Colicchio agrees and talks about the insights he gained from his wife's (Laurie Silverbush) groundbreaking film about hunger in America, A Place at the Table. “People aren't hungry in this country because of famine, war or drought. We have enough food to feed people. We don't have enough political will to feed people,” he notes.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What is a brand? What is branding supposed to do? And can you control your own brand? In this Clubhouse Q&A, Chris is joined by Dr. Christine Looser. You might remember her from episode 109. Dr. Looser teaches marketing and branding, and is the head of business, at startup school, The Minerva Project. If you have any kind of interest in branding, then save or bookmark this episode. Because you will want to re-listen to it. The conversation gets brainy and there are plenty of SAT words throughout it. But it is a deep and fascinating dive into the concept of branding. Christine puts Chris on the spot (which is always entertaining) and the two delve deep into the evolution of our brains and culture to try and make sense of the phenomena we call a “brand.” Learn more about your ad choices. As more of daily life gets taken over by technology, we ask what technology’s place is in the future of education. Pearson, the world's largest education publisher for example has just announced that it plans to phase out physical books, and adopt a "digital first" strategy. So will lectures of the future be conducted purely on a virtual screen, with professors and students interacting digitally across hundreds or even thousands of miles? Ben Nelson, chief executive of the Minerva Project, an online learning project, thinks so. But Princeton historian Kevin Kruse is not convinced. He tells Ed Butler how he has had to deal with the dark side of “education” on the internet. Also in the show, Oliver Thorn delivers philosophy education and entertainment on his YouTube channel Philosophy Tube.
