This is a special in-person episode located in Enfield, North Carolina just off the I-95 with Tyrone and Edna Williams of Fourtee Acres. They lease out land for farming, own certified trees, and garden for local markets. They are proud of their legacy and have a great family to lean on at their multiple-use farm. We start our conversation off by talking about landowner assistance and how they are able to operate. They have diversified and become a well-known farmer's market treat from their gardening which Edna spearheads. Edna is also a member of the landowner group called ForestHer NC and we have some great resources available to women landowners that Edna enjoys. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fourteeacresfarm and ForestHer NC https://www.facebook.com/foresthernc Edna Williams: It is her main goal, over the years and at her present professional retirement time, is to provide a supportive environment for those she comes in contact with. Informing the community about nutritional value and practices is important to her as it also enrich her life and others with learning while providing excitement. As an educator it is most memorable and exciting to see the sparks in the eyes of the community and children as they are exposed to living on a farm and growing diverse vegetables not common to the area. Edna feels blessed and thankful for the opportunity to be in a position where new challenges present themselves every day. Happily transplanted from the city limits of Enfield, NC, to the beautiful county side of Enfield, Edna lives with her husband, her better half, Tyrone Williams. They have three young adult, single, handsome sons, Trevelyn, Tremaine, and Tyron. All of whom have artistic aspirations and existential careers in music, computer science and computer game design. Edna is a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Enfield, where you will find her on any given day working in one of the family three gardens and on Sunday, singing in the choir. Tyrone Williams spent 30 years with the Employment Security Commission, and what is now the North Carolina Department of Commerce in local, regional and state office positions. He ended his career as the Workforce Relations Manager in the Employment Service (ES) Section of the Division of Workforce Solutions in the Raleigh state office. Additionally, in 2011 he was awarded the Governor's Award for Outstanding State Government Service from Governor Beverly Perdue. In December 2013, he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Pat McCrory for his outstanding state government service and longevity of service to his community and the state on various boards and other civic activities, one of the most prestigious conferred by the governor. Since retirement, he has spent time reading, traveling, and learning the “real aspects “of the land that he loves to enhance sustainability, create successional and generational wealth for his family legacy and the land that has been in his family for over 100 years! He is married, to the former Edna Mills, and they have three grown sons, Trevelyn, Tremaine and Tyron all of whom are a part of Fourtee Acres, LLC a forestry, tenant farming and natural gardening operation. I'm a community activist for criminal justice reform and mental health awareness, as well as a former lawyer and convicted felon who just came home in May of 2019. I'm an artist/producer (stage name = Pastor Ayu) from Washington, DC and I make what I call " Gospel Trap" music about how my faith in Jesus Christ turned my life around and got me back on track. I talk truthfully about the streets and how God's mercy can change anyone, particularly if He changed me, over hardcore trap beats. While I was still incarcerated, I led the Bible study for my unit (Southeast 3 in DC Jail) and I was in the Inmate Gospel Choir. I still do Bible study and ministry at DC Jail right now with the Phoenix Ministry at New Bethel Baptist Church. I also work with the National Reentry Network for Returning Citizens (the formerly incarcerated) throughout DC in getting people jobs and housing when they come home from prison. Story by: Gail NoblesPodcast vocals by: Gail NoblesActress: Gail NoblesActress: Yes, time is winding up now. (singing)........ Having a little fun remembering Aretha Franklin. "I Say A Little Prayer" is today's song. A song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick. You know Aretha Franklin was a singer, songwriter, actress, pianist, and civil rights activist. Franklin began her career as a child singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where her father C.L. Franklin was a minister. Aretha is known for gospel mixing it with the mainstream of pop and R&B. She said, " Well it was just natural for me coming from the church."I have to agree with that. Though she sang gospel, I can tell no matter what kind of song she sang. When Aretha sang "I Say A Little Prayer", I knew it was a love song but hidden was the church, and Aretha sang like she was in church. If Aretha is in heaven, her soul is with the saints now. She left us on August 16, 2018. I can hear her in my mind how she would sing "I Say A Little Prayer" today. Actress: Don't you worry about me. Just keep on singing. (singing)Actress: It doesn't matter whether it's rock n roll or gospel. People need prayer. There is no category when I say ... (singing). We all need prayer!"I Say A Little Prayer" by Aretha Franklin was released in 1968. To hear the original song by Aretha, "I Say A Little Prayer", go to Spotify.com. I'm Gail Nobles on the CAT BEAR.

This is a replay of a message that was recently delivered at New Bethel Baptist Church on their annual Mission Sunday. Jesus told His disciples, and us today to "...go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15b). How, then, do we begin this preparation of going into all the world? Today, we will discuss 3 areas of preparation: physical, mental and spiritual. Jesus is calling us into missions in our homes, at work, at play, in our city, in our nation, in the world! Let's get ready to go!
In this episode, we take a real life look at a personal and corporate journey of faith. It started with an offer from a high tech company, GSTV, to donate computers to an organization. It ended eight months later with 7 underrepresented teens completing a 6-month program in web page development. Why a faith journey? GSTV donated both computers AND instructors committed to be all in. Just one idea took 2 months of planning and 6 months of commitment from the sponsors, GSTV, Midtown Church, New Bethel Baptist Church, the parents, the teens, and The Word Restores. It was a God thing all along! He birthed the Technical Inclusion Project (TIP4Teens).

Alan Elliott is a man of perseverance. After working with Warner Brothers Records, along with Steven Bochco, and on the infamous television musical ‘Cop Rock,’ Elliott sunk his teeth into Sydney Pollack’s (Out of Africa, Tootsie) abandoned project, ‘Amazing Grace.’ The documentary presented Aretha Franklin and a choir at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles, January of 1972. After Pollack’s successful film ‘The Way We Were’ launched Barbra Streisand’s film career, the studios promised Franklin a similar journey. For various reasons, the film fell apart. Decades later, Elliott decided to pick up the pieces. Specifically, these pieces were boxes and boxes from Pollack’s private collection. To the buyer’s surprise, the films were disorganized, not linked in terms of audio and visual, and utterly a complete mess. In this interview, the composer turned director discusses discipline, why insanity is necessary for a creative mind, the responsibility of a filmmaker, why creativity is so personal, the modern infrastructure of the music business in terms of making and publicizing art, a favorite moment with Mick Jagger, and his ongoing fascination with the Queen of Soul. The highly anticipated documentary AMAZING GRACE, captures the live recording of Aretha Franklin's album “Amazing Grace” at The New Bethel Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles in January 1972. Producer Alan Elliot joins us to talk about the “making of” and the resurrection of this remarkable display of raw talent and consuming passion, the 47-year long path that Amazing Grace has taken and how its arrival in theaters fulfills Aretha Franklin’s dying wish. The Amazing Grace backstory In 1972 Director Sydney Pollack (Tootsie, 3 Days of the Condor, Out of Africa) was inexperienced in shooting music documentary and shot without clapper boards snapping shut at the beginning of each take to help synchronize sound and picture in post-production. As a result of this mistake, even after months of work by experts, the 20 hours of footage couldn't be synchronized with the audio tracks. The choir director from the Watts recordings was brought in to try to lip-read the reels, but after months of work, only about 150 minutes of footage had been matched with sound, none of it adding up to a complete, useable song. Deadlines passed as the "Amazing Grace" album came out in June 1972, selling millions with no synergy. In August, Warner Bros. officially wrote off and shelved the movie. Pollack never gave up on the project, but constantly had other commitments. In 2007, dying of cancer, Pollack finally handed the documentary project over to producer and music enthusiast Producer Alan Elliott. For news and updates go to: amazing-grace-movie.com

His later recordings influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo soul. Franklin is listed in at least two all-time lists on Rolling Stone magazine, including the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time; and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. African-American Cinema 63. Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song is a 1971 American independent action thriller film written, co-produced, scored, edited, directed by and starring Melvin Van Peebles. His son Mario Van Peebles also appears in a small role, playing the title character as a young boy. It tells the picaresque story of a poor black man on his flight from the white authority. 64. Van Peebles began to develop the film after being offered a three-picture contract for Columbia Pictures. No studio would finance the film, so Van Peebles funded the film himself, shooting it independently over a period of 19 days, performing all of his own stunts and appearing in several sex scenes, reportedly unsimulated. He received a $50,000 loan from Bill Cosby to complete the project. The film's fast-paced montages and jump-cuts were unique features in American cinema at the time. The picture was censored in some markets and received mixed critical reviews. However, it has left a lasting impression on African-American cinema. 65. The musical score of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song was performed by Earth, Wind & Fire. Van Peebles did not have any money for traditional advertising methods, so he released the soundtrack album prior to the film's release to generate publicity. Huey P. Newton celebrated and welcomed the film's revolutionary implications, and Sweetback became required viewing for members of the Black Panther Party. According to Variety, it demonstrated to Hollywood that films which portrayed "militant" blacks could be highly profitable, leading to the creation of the blaxploitation genre, although critic Roger Ebert did not consider this example of Van Peebles' work to be an exploitation film. 66. Release date: April 23, 1971 / Budget: $150k (~920k today) / Gross: $4.1m (~25m today) 67. Shaft is a 1971 American blaxploitation action-crime film directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D. F. Black. The film revolves around a private detective named John Shaft who is hired by a Harlem mobster to rescue his daughter from the Italian mobsters who kidnapped her. The film stars Richard Roundtree as John Shaft, Moses Gunn as Bumpy Jonas, Charles Cioffi as Vic Androzzi, and Christopher St. John as Ben Buford. The major themes present in Shaft are the Black Power movement, race, masculinity, and sexuality. It was filmed within the New York City borough of Manhattan, specifically in Harlem, Greenwich Village, and Times Square. 68. Shaft was one of the first blaxploitation films, and one of the most popular, which "marked a turning point for this type of film and spawned a number of sequels and knockoffs." The Shaft soundtrack album, recorded by Isaac Hayes, was also a success, winning a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture; and a second Grammy that he shared with Johnny Allen for Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; Grammy Award for Best Original Score; the "Theme from Shaft" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and has appeared on multiple Top 100 lists, including AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs. Widely considered a prime example of the blaxploitation genre. Shaft was selected in 2000 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." 69. Release date: July 2, 1971 / Budget: 500k (~3m today) / Gross: $13m (~80m today) 70. The film was one of only three profitable movies that year for MGM, 71. It not only spawned several years of "blaxploitation" action films, it earned enough money to save then-struggling MGM from bankruptcy Television: 72. Soul Train is an American music-dance television program which aired in syndication from October 2, 1971 to March 27, 2006. In its 35-year history, the show primarily featured performances by R&B, soul, dance/pop and hip-hop artists, although funk, jazz, disco and gospel artists also appeared. The series was created by Don Cornelius, who also served as its first host and executive producer. 73. Some commentators have called Soul Train a "black American Bandstand," 74. Cornelius acknowledged Bandstand as a model for his program, but he tended to bristle at the Bandstand comparisons. 75. Cornelius, with help from Jesse Jackson, openly accused Dick Clark of trying to undermine TV's only Black-owned show, when Clark launched "Soul Unlimited". 76. Cornelius was relatively conservative in his musical tastes and was admittedly not a fan of the emerging hip hop genre, believing that the genre did not reflect positively on African-American culture (one of his stated goals for the series). 77. Rosie Perez testified in the 2010 VH1 documentary Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America that Cornelius also disliked seeing the show's dancers perform sexually suggestive "East Coast" dance moves. 78. This disconnect (which was openly mocked in an In-Living Color sketch where Cornelius and the show were lampooned as extremely old and out of touch) eventually led to Cornelius's stepping down as host in the early 1990s and the show's losing its influence.
