Perfectly Good Podcast - John Hiatt from A to Z

In this episode of the Perfectly Good Podcast, hosts Jessie Jackson and Sylvan Groth explore John Hiatt's rare cover of 'I Spy for the FBI' from his 1980 album '2 Bit Monsters.' They delve into the song's origins, originally recorded by Jamo Thomas and Luther Ingram and the G Men, and written by Richard Wiley and Herman Kelly. The discussion highlights the song's historical context, chart performance, and how it fits into Hiatt's discography. The hosts also compare the song's playful take on infidelity to the teenage romances and simple comedies of the 60s and 70s, reflecting on the cleverness of the lyrics. Additionally, the episode touches on broader themes like musical joy and artist tribute albums, with teasers for future guest commentators and avenues for fan interaction via social media and email. Rundown -   Greg Gold in Craig's Lawyers' Lounge - 11:04   Barry Levine - 31:44   Troubadour Dave Gunders - 01:30:15   "Set the Tone" by Dave Gunders - 01:42:14   The Craig Silverman Show's New York v Trump trial correspondent Greg Gold reports on his 100 Centre Street Manhattan Criminal Courthouse observations. Trump claims that the area is locked down and Greg proves that Trump is a liar. Gold reports the prosecution's opening witness, David Pecker, is astoundingly good.   This case has more at stake than the John Edwards prosecution in North Carolina, which Greg Gold also attended. In Craig's Lawyers' Lounge, a high-level discussion occurs about what evidence might be persuasive. Greg Gold sets the scene brilliantly for the New York v Trump trial that is now underway.   The first witness in the trial is David Pecker from the National Enquirer. Our show's main guest is Barry Levine, who worked for Pecker and the Enquirer from 1999 to 2016. Barry Levine knows all the details and has broken the Enquirer's big stories on John Edwards, Jessie Jackson and Tiger Woods. He explains how those stories happened.   Barry Levine describes Packer's style and how he was once assigned a 2010 interview with Trump. Levine also provides the history of the National Enquirer, especially after it was under the control of David Pecker and the American Media Inc. Host discusses how he was sometimes a paid legal consultant for AMI on celebrity crime stories.   Barry Levine is an experienced New Yorker and accomplished American journalist, author and media executive. He is best known for his work as an investigative reporter and editor in politics, government and entertainment, having worked for many years at the National Enquirer. https://nypost.com/2017/05/11/ex-national-enquirer-editor-joins-heavy/   Levine and the Enquirer were nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for their story exposing the love child of former Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards. Senator Edwards's subsequent campaign fraud prosecution resembles what Trump now faces.   In 2019, Barry Levine authored "All the President's Women: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator." Back then, Levine and other reporters followed Trump's Aspen affairs. Barry knows Donald Trump's NY secrets and Trump's fantasy of being Hugh Hefner. Levine has interviewed scores of females Trump has victimized.   Troubadour Dave Gunders also discusses opening witness David Pecker and how DAs need to "Set the Tone," the title of Dave's song this week. Every trial is a rollercoaster ride, as is the 2024 election. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is also discussed for the shooting of her puppy, Cricket. What an outrage!

In more recent times this column reviewed an album he did with Lady GaGa. He has visited here many times and I have been fortunate to have also had the opportunity to meet him in the USA. During a visit to the North in 2011 Rev. Jackson said: “The pattern of communities struggling for freedom, justice and democracy is essentially the same … Where there is no justice, there can be no peace. As Dr. King often reminded us, peace is not the absence of noise but the presence of justice.”The partitionist mindset of RTEThe recent controversies surrounding RTE – problematic payments, a lack of transparency, questionable management, deeply flawed oversight, the blocking of GAA matches to the North, the GAAGO saga and the geo-blocking of the Women's FIFA World Cup into the North– and much more, will have surprised few who have watched the unacceptable behaviour of governments and RTE Executives and management over many decades.

Black Man With A Gun Show
Farewell message

Black Man With A Gun Show

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 21, 2019 23:46

This is my farewell message to friends, family and coworkers in the 2 A movement.  In my twenty plus year of being in this space, I have never seen anyone actually retire.  They usually die, get a mention in the NRA Rifleman, and Ammoland and that's it.  Or they screw up in a media interview and get crucified by trolls and the community members that like that sort of thing.  I'm trying to go out on my own terms. The world has changed since I started.  A lot.  Some good stuff has happened.  And some bad.  I used to call myself the Bill Cosby of the Gun Rights Movement.  That isn't a good analogy now.  And there were a couple of other guys that I grew up looking up to that have since gone down in flames. Like my wife repeatedly say, don't compare yourself to anyone, just be you. I started with nothing.  I still have most of that left.   I started in 1986 wanted to be a firearms instructor for my community.  I wanted to become a high paid speaker or radio personality. I wanted to  leverage my creativity and entrepreneurism to become a successful business person.  I became the Black Man with a Gun (BMWAG) The local DC Maryland and Virginia community wasn't ready for an under 30  year old African American firearms trainer.  The government allowed me to moonlight and do this side activity but with a strict warning not to disclose my bona fides.  I was watched.  I was monitored.  I had to ask permission before I traveled.  When I appeared before the public they thought, how could I know anything?  How dare I talk about guns when there was the so called black on black crime, police shootings, and drug wars going on.  I got beat up a lot at ranges, gun shops and churches where I  tried to advertise.  But I became involved in the gun community/ gun rights when I failed to make money as a trainer/instructor in 1987.  Gun rights activism doesn't make money if you are honest.  Since then I have been involved in the gun debate, as it intersects firearms instruction and civil rights.  I created the Tenth Cavalry Gun Club in 1991 that grew from Washington, DC, Baltimore, NJ and Illinois.  The Law Enforcement Alliance of America, introduced me the show business of politics and I worked with to the NRA, GOA and SAF. The website Black Man with a Gun debuted in 1999.  I've been involved in US Supreme Court cases we have won for the 2nd Amendment even if my name isn't on it. I learned more about myself than anything doing this stuff I had a training business, where I provided instruction and certifications in first aid, armed security and tactics.  I failed in business but I pressed onward. I started before social media and looking back I could have been a boss with that thing but I didn't. I reached out to all the so called black leaders and announced my intentions in the gun world.  It was risky because historically, this same leaders are anti-gun.  But I went there.  I tried to buy a shooting range.  I got blasted by Rev Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, and local pastors.  I created a podcast in 2007 and I was embraced by the people black people said I should beware of.  The demographic that loved the BMWAG were the same folks that are accused of racism, cronyism, and supremacy.  White males were calling me brother.  They were listening to my shows.  They were inviting me and my family to events across the country.  I shot historical firearms in Tennessee.  I ate at the homes of millionaires, in country clubs, and places in Washington DC I didn't know black people were allowed in.  I learned that our country likes being divisive.  I learned that racism exist mostly because people need it as an excuse.  I learned that organizations really don't want change.  I learned that people like mess, and drama.  I learned that I was a conservative.   What I enjoyed I loved meeting people like you. I loved shooting exotic and new firearms. I loved championing the cause of freedom.  I loved being the Black Man with a Gun.  I loved mixing faith and firearms.  I loved being the pastor of patriots, pistoleros and paladins.  I loved writing but podcasting was my jam.  I loved and hoped that one day I would make enough money to quit my day job.  That didn't happen by the way.  I learned that my faith has sustained me.  I learned that my unique position has saved lives. But it has had its bad side too.  I've spent too much money learning, and chasing influencers.  I filed bankruptcy along this journey. I'm ok now but I learned a lot by my mistakes.  My wisdom came at a price.  I almost lost my wife on this journey.  I almost got kicked out of two churches from being pro-gun.  I lost positions, promotions and opportunities at my old government job because of my pro-gun activities.  It came at a cost.    Memories 1.    Civil rights award from the NRA for bringing the Eddie Eagle program to Washington DC in a big way. 2.    St Gabriel Possenti award from the Gun Dean, John Synder at the Second Amendment Foundation 3.    Creating the tenth cavalry gun Club and getting the club to shoot at the NRA range when it was brand new 4.    Meeting Charlton Heston and getting Christmas cards from him for a few years 5.    Being the chaplain of the LEAA 6.    Being a part of the concealed carry reforms across the US 7.    Testifying in VA, TX, MI, WI and SC legislative houses 8.    Interviewing the Gunny, Lee Ermey, Wayne LaPierre, befriending a rabbi  like Dovid and connecting with my Jewish brethren 9.    Speaking in front of 20K in Albany NY 10.    Meeting Donald Trump and getting a selfie in NY 11.    Publishing two three books related to the my journey and the 2nd amendment 12.    Creating a website in 1999 and trademarking the name bmwag 13.    Being mentioned in a movie, pros and Cons. 14.    Getting a chance to audition for a pilot show on Spike TV 15.    Podcasting for 12 years, 630+ episodes, sharing American history, and introducing new generations to things they may have missed. 16.    Working with over 12 industry companies and getting sponsored by Crossbreed holsters and USCCA 17.    Interviewing over 100 historical people for the podcast   I created a IG post that alerted my friends that I was retiring.  It made me sad even though I am smiling in the picture.  How do you retire?  I'm making it up as I go.  I have never been here before but I know it is a nice thing to let folks know of your intentions.  Like anyone, I thought about all the things I did that didn't succeed.  I started dwelling on it and had to break out the ice cream.  If you feel bad, eat a little ice cream. I learned that from my dad.  Not too much or you will look like you are always sad.   Why am I leaving? When I got started in 2000 as the BMWAG, it was tongue in cheek.  It was my version of a shock jock.  I did it with all the intentions of being replaced by many untraditional firearms instructors, activist and clubs.  We have that.  I personally know of Spanish speakers, LGBT, African Americans, disabled vets and boat loads of women involved now.  I've been the go to guy media for law enforcement issues in the black community, religion and guns and veterans issues as it relates to guns.  Most of the time, after a tragedy. Not good times.  There have been almost a steady flow of tragedy to respond to.  If you know the media game, if you sound reasonable, truthful and not bombastic your contribution will not be used.  I think I might get the reward for the most media nobody but the editor as seen. I'm tired of that. It took me awhile to learn the game of hyperbole.  On a good day, I can crank it out like the best of them.  But it's not my style.  Over the years I have learned that I am not the loudest, nor the most controversial voice out there.  I started focusing on taking care of the second amendment first responders instead.  And I still will.  I care about you, your family and where you are going.   I learned you need a team to succeed.  You can be one dude on a mission as I have been.  You have to learn how to delegate.  You have to inspire folks to work for you for nothing until you can pay them.  I didn't manage that.  Since 2007, I have been producing digital content.  The Lord has allowed me to create, practice narration, speak and presenting online. I was intimately involved in the gun debate, US Constitutional issues and social causes.  And with that I am well known among the gray beards.  This fight is evergreen. I believe that this season of my life is ending and that I am to move on to the next.  I want to entertain. Teach and continue doing the needful on the sidelines.  My best work and most of my accomplishments are not online.  I have changed minds.  I have saved families. I have helped veterans.  I have been a brother to those in need.  I have helped mothers, grandmothers and children.   So how do you retire on your own terms? I figured my first step was in letting my friends know of my intentions so it doesn't catch them off guard. Decrease my expenses.  Live modestly.  Love unconditionally.  Continue to help my fellowman.  I am still pro-gun, pro-rights and pro-life - my life. If you want to find me, I will still be online, shooting recreationally, still be singing, playing the blues, riding my motorcycle, preaching the gospel, smiling and praising my God. I thank all of you that have been rolling with this brother since the beginning.  I thank you for listening, downloading and subscribing to the podcast.  I thank those that reached out when they saw my IG or Facebook and checked on a brother.  It wasn't a lot of you but I noticed who you were. Means I picked the right ones to call friend.   Special thanks and much appreciation to the Crossbreed Holsters Company and family.  We connected early and even after the passing of Mark, we stayed connected.  Carol has been a blessing. Tim Schmidt of USCCA has been instrumental in my success too.  He was a sponsor of my podcast and 2A work long before anyone knew what social media was.  He has moved on and grown his brand exponentially Barbara Baird of Women's Outdoor News has been like a confidant and big sister.  It is only because of her that I even got invited to blogger events and SHOT show parties.  If you saw or met me somewhere exclusive in the gun community it was because of a connection with her.   Shout outs to American Built Arms who sponsored my internet TV show for three months.  Blanchard Outdoors.   Shout out to my Sho Nuff supporters of my Patreon account that kept me solvent.  I made a pact with the wife not to spend any family money fighting for the RKBA and I've doing that successfully for a decade because of you. Thank you. Like Sheriff Bart said before me, "Work here is done. I'm needed elsewhere now. I'm needed wherever outlaws rule the West, wherever innocent women and children are afraid to walk the streets, wherever a man cannot live in simple dignity, wherever a people cry out for justice." Shalom baby. Rev. Kenn Blanchard

MLK the gift and Cursed Let me explain as we approach his birthday on this coming Monday. We need to reflect and reevaluate this man life. Most of story they told us about this man was a lied . In the last two years of his life. MkL was fighting with two forces US Government and himself. He wasn’t happy about integrated negro Americans into white community. Secondly He strongly disagreed with Johnson about sending young Americans to fight a war in Vietnam. In the last two years of his life. He was making plans to boycott 500 US companies across this nation. He didn’t like the way the Government was treating the Americans people especially the negro’s. The aristocrats have used him to bring in nonviolence movements to undermined the militant spirit and our leaders in the negro community . In believing in this ideology of nonviolence. When J Edgar Hoover was planning his assassination with some of those pastors in the negro community. Jessie Jackson knew MKL was going to be kill in Memphis Tennessee. They all knew about the plans of the assassination of MLK months a head of his death. MKL was a great speaker no one can’t denied it. However he dealing with a lot demonic forces around him. They were a lot undercover agents that was working with FBI and the CIA. They FBI claimed he was very pernicious as man of God. He used to have sex with several women at one time. The Vietnam war killed over 500.000 soldiers and destroyed millions of family throughout Vietnam. MLK was not dreamer he was a fighter unfortunately history have made a dreamer . The liberal Jews used MLK to bring in the so called civil rights. They knew this will damage our people Spiritually, mentally and financially. Most of them were communists. Their agenda was to make Americans more liberal then conservatives. That’s y this Government is soo corrupted. Jessie Jackson The Author African American. During his presidential campaigns in 1988. He quote the term African American. During that time most indigenous people of America where again it. Only a few who were for it most of them are Boule . The aristocrats always used those sambo to confuse our people. We need to do a full investigation on Jessie Jackson. I am convinced he is government agent. U may agree or disagreed with me. However there’s a lot coalitions between him and the government covert operations within the US. He played a part of a lot criminal activities during the 60’s 70’ and 80’. I strongly believe he doesn’t have the indigenous people of America best interest at heart. It’s time to revealed the true motives behind this man success. The US government when dealing with the so called African Americans. It’s time waked up and claim our land back from our oppressors. The America’s is our Homeland not Africa contrary to popular belief. For thousands of years most of us barely traveled to Africa. We’re Not African we‘re the copper tone people of the America’s. The Europeans sailors who have never travel outside they native lands. They thought the world was flat. They were also looking for gold, sugar , coffee ,cotton and spices throughout the America’s and the world. Jessie Jackson since the 60’s had played a major role with the FBI and CIA to undermine the so called black leaders and movements throughout this country. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/johnrosemberg/support

Franklin is listed in at least two all-time lists on Rolling Stone magazine, including the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time; and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. African-American Cinema 63.    Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song is a 1971 American independent action thriller film written, co-produced, scored, edited, directed by and starring Melvin Van Peebles. His son Mario Van Peebles also appears in a small role, playing the title character as a young boy. It tells the picaresque story of a poor black man on his flight from the white authority. 64.    Van Peebles began to develop the film after being offered a three-picture contract for Columbia Pictures. No studio would finance the film, so Van Peebles funded the film himself, shooting it independently over a period of 19 days, performing all of his own stunts and appearing in several sex scenes, reportedly unsimulated. He received a $50,000 loan from Bill Cosby to complete the project. The film's fast-paced montages and jump-cuts were unique features in American cinema at the time. The picture was censored in some markets and received mixed critical reviews. However, it has left a lasting impression on African-American cinema. 65.    The musical score of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song was performed by Earth, Wind & Fire. Van Peebles did not have any money for traditional advertising methods, so he released the soundtrack album prior to the film's release to generate publicity. Huey P. Newton celebrated and welcomed the film's revolutionary implications, and Sweetback became required viewing for members of the Black Panther Party. According to Variety, it demonstrated to Hollywood that films which portrayed "militant" blacks could be highly profitable, leading to the creation of the blaxploitation genre, although critic Roger Ebert did not consider this example of Van Peebles' work to be an exploitation film. 66.    Release date: April 23, 1971 / Budget: $150k (~920k today) / Gross: $4.1m (~25m today) 67.    Shaft is a 1971 American blaxploitation action-crime film directed by Gordon Parks and written by Ernest Tidyman and John D. F. Black. The film revolves around a private detective named John Shaft who is hired by a Harlem mobster to rescue his daughter from the Italian mobsters who kidnapped her. The film stars Richard Roundtree as John Shaft, Moses Gunn as Bumpy Jonas, Charles Cioffi as Vic Androzzi, and Christopher St. John as Ben Buford. The major themes present in Shaft are the Black Power movement, race, masculinity, and sexuality. It was filmed within the New York City borough of Manhattan, specifically in Harlem, Greenwich Village, and Times Square. 68.    Shaft was one of the first blaxploitation films, and one of the most popular, which "marked a turning point for this type of film and spawned a number of sequels and knockoffs." The Shaft soundtrack album, recorded by Isaac Hayes, was also a success, winning a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture; and a second Grammy that he shared with Johnny Allen for Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement; Grammy Award for Best Original Score; the "Theme from Shaft" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and has appeared on multiple Top 100 lists, including AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs. Widely considered a prime example of the blaxploitation genre. Shaft was selected in 2000 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." 69.    Release date: July 2, 1971 / Budget: 500k (~3m today) / Gross: $13m (~80m today) 70.    The film was one of only three profitable movies that year for MGM,  71.    It not only spawned several years of "blaxploitation" action films, it earned enough money to save then-struggling MGM from bankruptcy Television: 72.    Soul Train is an American music-dance television program which aired in syndication from October 2, 1971 to March 27, 2006. In its 35-year history, the show primarily featured performances by R&B, soul, dance/pop and hip-hop artists, although funk, jazz, disco and gospel artists also appeared. The series was created by Don Cornelius, who also served as its first host and executive producer. 73.    Some commentators have called Soul Train a "black American Bandstand," 74.    Cornelius acknowledged Bandstand as a model for his program, but he tended to bristle at the Bandstand comparisons. 75.    Cornelius, with help from Jesse Jackson, openly accused Dick Clark of trying to undermine TV's only Black-owned show, when Clark launched "Soul Unlimited". 76.    Cornelius was relatively conservative in his musical tastes and was admittedly not a fan of the emerging hip hop genre, believing that the genre did not reflect positively on African-American culture (one of his stated goals for the series). 77.    Rosie Perez testified in the 2010 VH1 documentary Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America that Cornelius also disliked seeing the show's dancers perform sexually suggestive "East Coast" dance moves. 78.     This disconnect (which was openly mocked in an In-Living Color sketch where Cornelius and the show were lampooned as extremely old and out of touch) eventually led to Cornelius's stepping down as host in the early 1990s and the show's losing its influence.
