In this episode of Masters of Moments, host Jake Wurzak sits down with Micah Lacher, founder of Anchor Investments, for a deeply personal and wide-ranging conversation about real estate, entrepreneurship, and the power of second chances. From growing up in a struggling household in North Memphis to building a respected investment and development firm in Nashville, Micah's story is both gritty and inspiring. They begin with Micah's early exposure to real estate, sparked by a life-changing move that took his family from an unsafe neighborhood to one of the best public school districts in Memphis—secured through an unlikely deal involving two Delta Airlines plane tickets. That experience set the tone for a life shaped by faith, hustle, and resilience. Throughout the episode, Micah shares how he transitioned from a brokerage role at Cushman & Wakefield into real estate development, thanks to the mentorship of Bob Tull, a former Walmart developer. He recounts launching Anchor in the depths of the 2009 financial crisis, raising capital deal-by-deal to purchase distressed assets when few others had the conviction to buy. They also discuss: - The high-stakes risk of personal guarantees during the Great Financial Crisis - How Micah structured deals, underwrote for worst-case scenarios, and still found upside - The transition from broker to principal and the influence of early mentors - Raising children without entitlement while building wealth - Using his business as a platform for purpose and service to the community Micah's outlook is rooted in gratitude and long-term thinking, with a focus on character, consistency, and building something that matters. This episode is a must-listen for anyone navigating the intersection of values, leadership, and real estate. Singer/Songwriter, Stephani Doll McCoy, originally hails from North Memphis by way of Hollywood, Jackson and Frayser. Stephani's grandmother was instrumental in her start of learning all aspects of music at their church Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in South Memphis. It was at Ridgeway High School where she met her sisters and began the singing group ADAJYO. At one point Stephani took the leap and moved to L.A. to pursue music full time. Her experience on the West Coast presented many challenges and successes in her career. She found her community of musicians and was able to create and collaborate with the likes of Raphael Sasdiq and many others. McCoy describes in detail her experience working with B.B. King Blues traveling the world on Holland American Cruise Lines performing six nights a week. You'll also discover her process of writing music which involves the craft of telling stories and being vulnerable. Although you can see Stephani on many stages throughout the city, her focus as of now is building a community by designing her very own platform via Doll's Playlist series. This concert event displays her original music where she has the space to learn and grow with her audience. During the "Aye Mane, Say Mane" segment, Doll gives us the turning point in her career where her mind frame began to shift on how she approaches creating shows. Lastly, Stephani closes the podcast with a beautiful performance.

So what IS at the end of your fork – have you thought about that today? It's National Nutrition Month and there's no time like the present to make a healthy lifestyle change. Yes, proper eating choices and physical activity matter — and the more you put off addressing that, the harsher the consequences may be. We invite Holly Branch, Food and Nutrition Program Manager for The Center for Black Health & Equity, to talk on Black Body Health this week. Branch manages this program funded by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). While she is passionate about “eating colorfully” and reading the nutrition labels on packaged foods, Holly says it will take all of us to push for policy changes that will inherently improve Black health. Most recently, the FDA has suggested that sodium levels must be lowered in our food supply to address heart disease and declining heart health in this country. Start the podcast now to hear Holly Branch's response to this major government guidance.
