SLEERICKETS is a podcast about poetry and other intractable problems. NB: Stallings wrote in to add a note: “I am somewhat mortified to realize that I got Pemberly's situation wrong--of course it is in Derbyshire! Uggh. Don't know if there is a way to edit my Yorkshire comments out, or add a comment there. Austenites will have me for lunch. (Rightly so.)”My book Midlife now exists. Mrs Bennet is overjoyed at Darcy and Elizabeth's, and Jane and Bingley's marriages. Mr Bennet is happy too, even to the point of leaving home to regularly visit Elizabeth at Pemberly. Jane and Bingley stay in Netherfield house for only a year, they then move up north, within 30 miles of Pemberly. Kitty goes to stay with both sisters often too, and becomes a proper lady, losing most of the bad influences that Lydia taught her. Lydia and Wickham try to get closer to Darcy and Elizabeth, hoping that Darcy will be able to provide them with a fortune. Though Darcy can never have Wickham at Longborne, he does consent to allow Lydia to visit very seldom. Even Lady Catherine, after some time passes, comes back to Darcy's side, wanting to be part of his life again, and being able to put up with Elizabeth. With the Gardiners, Darcy and Elizabeth remain forever close; forever thankful to them for their part in joining the two of them. The End.

She writes that Mr Darcy followed them to London only a day after they had left. Darcy felt responsible for what happened as he had been too proud to tell anyone about Wickham's true behaviour; Mrs Gardiner suggests a potential “other motif”. Darcy had extra information that could help him find Wickham, Mrs Young, the woman who helped him run off with Miss Darcy so long ago. She, after some bribery, told Darcy where to find Wickham and Lydia. He proceeded to meet with Wickham several times, and Lydia only once. He tried to convince Lydia to go back to her family and refused all help from Darcy. Darcy convinced Wickham to marry Lydia too, as he never really intended to do it and planned to try to marry into wealth in a different country. After meeting with Wickham and Lydia, Darcy made his way to Mr Gardiners, waiting until Mr Bennet had left the area first. The two men took several days to come to an agreement on how to proceed with the payment of Wickham's debts and eventually Mr Gardiner had to yield to Mr Darcy and let him pay for all of Wickham's disgraces. Mr Darcy then told Mr Gardiner that he was to take all of the credit for paying these debts. Darcy didn't want it to be known to the Bennet family that he had interfered. On the day of the wedding, Darcy was also present, and he then dined with the Gardiners at their home. Mrs Gardiner concludes, writing that Mr Darcy is in need of a little more liveliness, and that if he married well, then she could teach him, and jests to Elizabeth that she should one day like to complete her tour of the grounds of Pemberly.

Miss Darcy is still very embarrassed by the whole situation. Miss Bingley and Mrs Hurst treat Elizabeth and Mrs Gardiner coldly. Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Ansley start the conversation after a long awkward pause. During their conversations Elizabeth realises that she cannot talk to Miss Darcy without being eyed by Miss Bingley. The servants bring some food into the room, and it eases the situation a little. Elizabeth feels that she would like Mr Darcy to be there, but on his entering the room, changes her mind. With Darcy now in the room, Miss Bingley watches every movement he makes. Elizabeth feels that Darcy wants his sister to get to know her as soon as possible. Miss Bingley notices this, and to silence Elizabeth she brings up the local militia, not knowing that Mr Wickham is so closely involved with Miss Darcy, thus silencing her. Elizabeth reacts well to the comment, and this causes Darcy to watch Elizabeth even more closely and favourably. Eventually Elizabeth and Mrs Gardiner leave, and after escorting them to their carriage, Darcy is hounded by Miss Bennet with snarky remarks about Elizabeth, hoping to find out how he truly feels about her.Support the showThank you so much for listening, if you want to support the me go to any of these links :)*Social*INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/theessentialreadsTWITTER: http://twitter.com/IsaacBirchallvoKo-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/theessentialreads

Elizabeth is afraid that Darcy has talked her up too much to his sister, but it seems that Miss Darcy is very shy and embarrassed to be there. Darcy informs Elizabeth that Mr Bingley will also be joining them and before she can react, the door opens. Bingley is as wonderful as ever, and he asks about her family in a very genuine way. She is uncertain if Bingley is still in love with her sister, but he is nonetheless kind. When Bingley and the Darcy's leave, they invite Elizabeth and her family to dine with them before they leave the county. Bingley is very please with the plan, and Elizabeth hopes that Bingley's happiness comes from his wanting to ask about Jane. Elizabeth spends the rest of the evening thinking about Mr Darcy, and wondering about how he feels. The maid starts to give them a tour of the house, starting in the late Mr Darcy's room, which is adorned with portraits of people involved in his life, Wickham included. Elizabeth's aunt and uncle pile questions onto the maid and she is more than happy to answer to everything, and she talks gladly about the wonderful acts of service that Darcy does for his servants. Everything that they all believed Darcy to be fall away as the maid continues to praise Darcy through the rest of the tour. They go all throughout the house and Elizabeth spends much time staring at a large portrait of Darcy. They leave the house for a walk of the grounds with the gardener and just when they start off they see Mr Darcy, come home early. He comes over to them and seems to Elizabeth to be completely changed. How on earth the man before her could be the Mr Darcy she had known before his letter? She doubts that he could still be in love with her after her awful rejection of him, but why else would be he so kind to her. Darcy leaves them to their walk, and thoughts of Darcy's change. Lydia sends letters to her mother, saying that she is visiting libraries and is spending time with Mr and Mrs Forster with the officers, and sends letters to her sister Kitty, saying far more interesting things with a lot of hidden details. Elizabeth isn't feeling amazing, and the thoughts of her northern tour with her aunt and uncle keep her morale above water. Her aunt however writes saying that her work is preventing them from coming at the expected time, and that their tour is also going to have to be cut short, meaning that they should only really be able to go as far north as Derbyshire… Eventually her family arrives, and they set off for the North with Elizabeth. When they get to Derbyshire, they explore the area where Mrs Gardiner used to live, Lambton, only 5 miles from Pemberly. Both of the Gardiners wish to visit the grounds and ask Elizabeth if she would go there. Laura has greatly enjoyed a show, but does a terrible job describing it to Hannah who becomes mortified by the show's premise.  Hannah has recently returned from Thirstenland, and had a blast exploring Portland with number 1 fan @ronniereadsregularly. When we jump into the second half of Towers of Midnight, we get confused, we get annoyed, we roll our eyes a lot, and we realize what the problem is. TOO MUCH PERRIN. Wait, what? Too much Perrin? Yes, that's right, past Laura reading The Eye of the World. There's too much Perrin in this book.Media Mentions:The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and Brandon SandersonThe Wheel of Time series---Amazon Prime VideoOld Enough---NetflixBlackbird Vol. 1 by Sam Humphries and Jen BartelThe Blue Road by Wayde Compton and April de la Noche MilneHeartstopper by Alice OsemanNimona by ND StevensonPride and Prejudice (1995)---HuluAustenland---HuluBride and Prejudice---HuluEmma.---Amazon Prime VideoSense and Sensibility (2008)---Amazon Prime VideoDownton Abbey---NetflixEmma (1996)---IMDBDeath Comes to Pemberly (2013)---Amazon Prime VideoNorthanger Abbey---Apple TVMansfield Park---HuluDoctor Who---HBOmaxThe Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha ShannonLiterature and LoFi---YouTubeNecessary People by Anna PitoniakGod of Neverland by Gama Ray MartinezA Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR MartinNew Girl---NetflixArrested Development---NetflixiHunt by Olivia Hill

As you might expect, Lizzy is nervous to visit the estate, but is assured Mr. Darcy isn't home. Well, that is until he shows up home early from town. Now Lizzy has to deal with the embarrassment of finding herself touring the house of the man she refused to marry! The man whom she hasn't seen or spoken to since he professed his love to her! Awkward...Oh, and Lydia goes to Brighton with her newly wed friend and the militia. It's totally going to be fine though.

At 73, Boris Karloff was looking for material that would finally give him the chance to show his range as a performer.  He knew he couldn't escape his reputation as a reliable box office horror star but he hoped for a role that would allow him to play more than the sympathetic monster.  1958's The Haunted Strangler, written for the actor by friend Jan Read, gave him that opportunity -- partly.  Dan and Vicky pay tribute to Karloff and this film, one many consider to be his best.  They also give us some of their recently seen including the films Swallow, Red Sun, Vivarium, Mark of the Vampire, Boys in the Band, Enola Holmes and the series Death Comes to Pemberly and Monsterland.   The Haunted Strangler is your Hot Date Halloween treat.  Enjoy the show and leave us some feedback.  Check out our website at www.hotdatepod.com

Chapter 5: Meet the Lucases! They're a big deal, y'all. Sir Lucas is a knight who just wants to hang out and be a friendly rich dude. Lady Lucas is the Gretchen Wieners to Mrs. Bennet's Regina George. Charlotte gets down to post-ball gossip with the Bennets. Highlights include: Bitch Crackers TM, Mary's musings on pride vs. vanity, the TITULAR LINE!, dogs, and wine.Chapter 6: The game changer. The Bingley sisters come to visit. They hate the whole family, but see potential for friendship with Jane and Lizzy. Party time! Charlotte and Lizzy discuss Jane's love life. Molly finds out that Jane Austen is dead. Darcy changes his tune. Molly finds out that Mary is just an annoying MT major. Sir William tries to play matchmaker between Lizzy and Darcy. Highlights include: Charlotte in general, Adam Scott's nose, damp heat blankets, Darcy's CROOSH, Darcy's inability to socialize, piano duels, gossip session between Darcy and Miss. Bingley, love and marriage.Chapter 7: Kydia goes to Meryton to get the gossip on the officers who are staying there, and report back to their parents. A note comes inviting Jane to Netherfield to hang out with the Bingley ladies, and she gets stuck there. Oops. Then our girl Lizzy walks all the way to Netherfield by herself, and Molly begins to soften on Darcy (only slightly).  Highlights include: Economic marriage in Austen's time (!!!), Orlando Bloom's face on a pillow, Mean Girls Interlude, Mrs. Bennet's SCHEME, Darcy's boner.Chapter 8: Lizzy is at a party she does not want to be at.  She's stayed over at Netherfield to keep Jane company, but she HATES IT HERE. The sisters Bingley are assholes. That's pretty much the chapter. Highlights include: Charlie, BOOKS, READING, the accomplishments of women, and "I'm not like other girls."  Study questions:Vanity vs. Pride: Molly agrees that pride is okay until it's not. Darcy's shift: Molly is speechless.  This is the original "he's mean to you because he likes you." Becca makes a CHEESY postulation on dating. We're still #antidizzy on this podcast.Austen's perceptions of love: Love is not equal to marriage. Becca recommends Fleabag for some good good flirting.Lizzy's long walk: Lizzy is willing to literally go the extra mile for people she cares about.Mrs. Hurst vs. Caroline Bingley: Molly thinks Caroline is a good, supportive friend to Darcy! She thinks Mrs. Hurst is a bitch when she does speak, but speaks much less than Caroline. A prediction: the sisters will sabotage Jingley.Darcy's life: Pemberly is gorgeous, he has a sister, he has a lot of BOOKS, and a lot of wealth he didn't work for.Jingley: We STAN, Bingley is a gentle boy. Molly wants to see more of the two of them together. #teamjingleyFunniest quote: "Occupied in observing Mr. Bingley's attentions to her sister, Elizabeth was far from suspecting that she was herself becoming an object of some interest in the eyes of his friend." GOD DARCY, THAT WAS FAST.Question moving forward: Why, Darcy?? Will Lizzy be receptive if he confesses?Who wins the chapter? Charlotte!  Want more??
