In a time when “being canceled” is one of our greatest fears, thinking Biblically about reputation as a category is a very productive exercise. But when we turn to the Bible, there's a prima facie tension about reputation. On the one hand, we're told to rejoice when we are reviled; on the other, we're told to have a sterling image for the sake of the Gospel. Derek, Alastair, and Matt dive into this conundrum and work it out in dialogue. Full show notes at www.merefidelity.com. I love some friendly competition. I also love a competition with $3,000,000 on the line. I also love drafts. Fantasy drafts, real sports drafts, or just good old fashioned "don't-you-dare-steal-my-pick" kinds of drafts. When Laura came on for the Halloween episode, we did a candy draft, and had the listeners vote on Instagram for who got the better team. She edged me out, but it's like y'all have never heard of a hustle before... This time we're back with TEN drafts, of all different topics. 5 picks each, and you'll get to vote on each and every one of the teams throughout the week when this episode drops. The draft categories are... Superheroes/Villains Cartoon Characters Weapons You'd Use to Defend Yourself in a Zombie Apocalypse Animals Books Things That Are Blue Foods That Moment When... (the best feelings) Things You'd Find at Hogwarts Things That Start With The Letter "E" Be sure to follow @thelink_podcast on Instagram to check out the stories Tuesday-Saturday the week the episode comes out, so you can vote on the polls for which teams were the best in each draft. Also follow @thelink_podcast on Twitter where I'll give commentary on how the polls ended up, and how much I love the listeners for having my back...which you will. If you're a weekly listener please consider writing a review for the pod. You can find all the relevant links here so you don't have to waste time, and if you happen to listen on some other platform, kudos, ya got me. After I called y'all out for not doing it, it's the least I can do to link you. If you enjoy this episode, drop us a line (where did that saying come from?) and we'll see about mixing in some more drafts. Until next time... --- Want to rage about sports and/or laugh at my bad beats and/or make some money? If you're a sports fan, and want to get even further into the weeds about upcoming games, picks, and trends, subscribe to my YouTube channel - MikeTheMush. During football season we're posting videos weekly that look ahead to my favorite gambling picks of the NFL week, and some fantasy football sleepers to keep an eye on. Check out even more sports content as the seasons change @MikeMushSports on Twitter and Instagram. Our gambling picks have been hot all year, except for when the Mush gods decide to bring down their wrath. We're up over 90 units on the year as this episode comes out though, which means if you bet $10 on every game we choose in the videos, you'd nearly have a band in your pocket, and not the Beatles or that janky rubber band you use instead of a wallet. God is observant of those who, with self-assured hubris, act like they can handle what life slings at them.Rather, be on the alert, the enemy of love prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Note: the enemy is as a roaring lion -- in TRUTH the enemy is a powerful yet futile foe.As you take a stand against the seductive lies of the enemy he is bound to cut and run.Resist him, cemented in your faith…and yes, after you have suffered taking your stand against the pus pocket, your faithful love consumed Father God will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5: 5, 7-10 paraphraseYou see, love stands. It takes a stand when we want to run.Love stands up for virtue, truth, and promises -- like in “I pledge allegiance to the United States of America” or “I Bud, take you Lea Ann to be my wedded wife” or a pledge implied to a newly conceived human -- it is implied that we devote our lives to helping that new human learn Jesus' way of life.Love stands up for the sick, weak, alone, lost, confused, angry, aggressively militant, addicted, and the well-intended but often tragically confused politicians.Love stands waiting for your spouse, friend, boss, pastor, to come around to see you, not just tolerating you.Yes, love stands waiting while injustice seems to prevail. It stands while all hell is breaking loose and trusting that God will make all things right as we surrender.A stand seems so feeble in our times of aggression and automatic weapons. Even so - it is our simple stand, turning the other cheek, that is the spirit in the truth that power is perfected in weakness. We learn that love stands when everything inside screams DEFEND YOURSELF!!! HIT BACK -- HARDER. NO MERCY. REFUSE TO FORGIVE. MY WAY IS RIGHT!!!Eleazar, the son of Dodo, a mighty warrior, stood his ground in the middle of a battlefield and the Lord gave him a great victory.Jesus stood His ground in the wilderness as He was tempted by the enemy to compromise His purpose. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%204%3A1-13&version=NIVThough Peter denied Jesus three times, according to church tradition, he was crucified in Rome upside down during the later reign of Roman emperor Nero around the year 64 AD. Peter felt he was unworthy to be crucified as his Lord was.Don't be surprised when you hear the whisper to be on the alert -- in your heart cry out Lord help me in full assurance that He will.Where do you need to take a stand? What is holding you back? Why not invite God into the situation asking Him to help learn the way of Jesus where love stands?PrayI long to love like Jesus. Open my eyes to where I need to take a stand and take it with confidence that You will infuse my heart's desire to love with determination, my actions with heavenly strength, and my willingness to take a stand. "It’s a mindset. It’s not looking for excuses, complaining or deciding to give up. " - gary vee  " If you need inspiring words, then don't do it" -Elon Musk  Motivation : about 2 years ago i used to think of motivation as self, i still do but now i understand why.  Motivation is not something you find, or get from someone else. Inspiration is..  Motivation is something that's already inside of YOUR SELF  The main reason why many people can't seem to motivate themselves is because they haven't move tiny steps towards the direction to where they can see themselves do it,  The second reason which is the most POWERFUL reason you WON"T DO IT is because you already told yourself you couldn't. I used to do the same thing, i used to think to myself " but i could never be that good!" and so i wasn't even giving myself a fair chance to even begin.  We gotta be very careful with the way we talk to ourselves and i know most times this negativity isn't our fault.  It starts with other negative people who tell others what they already think of themselves, and then they tell us how much we suck and we believe them... and the cycle continues...  it's up to you to block and build  yourself up by always respecting yourself first. Defend your dream, with your life because they're both the same thing. When your dreams die so does the human carrying it along. Defend it and DEFEND YOURSELF. #selfmotivated #hueclouds #selfrespect --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thispoddoesnotexist/message

Riding Shotgun With Charlie#063 Rob PincusInstructor, Author, Activist   When I started Riding Shotgun, I had no idea what it could turn in to or the journey it would be. I do remember thinking of the names in the firearm industry that I knew of, and Rob Pincus was one of the people I imagined having on the stagecoach. It’s a great honor to have him in the passenger seat.    During the past year or so, I posted some interviews with others and he commented that he wanted to be on the show. When I posted that I was going to be doing shows in Phoenix at GPRC, he messaged me and asked if I had a seat for him.  Of course I do!   We were fresh off GRPC, finishing just an hour before the interview. Rob says we share something similar.  I was Blogger of the Year at GRPC and I don’t have a ‘blog”. And he was NSSF Range of the Year and he didn’t have a range anymore.       Rob shares how he started shooting as a kid, buying his own guns at the age of 10. He gives us some history about Norwich University, the Military University of Vermont, where he attended. After that he did some time in the military and honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant.  Not wanting to deal with bureaucracies, he found himself being an entrepreneur and getting into training. He’s also been on Personal Defense TV with Tom Gresham, done a number of training DVDs thru the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association since 1995, and Best Defense among others. These all morphed into Personal Defense Network and I.C.E.Training.   When he focused on Training development and writing a curriculum, he turned it into Combat Focus Shooting book, then CFS: Evolution, then Defend Yourself, and Counter Ambush. I share with him that there’s a photo of me in his Defend Yourself from when I took the class in 2014. His most recent book is Defensive Shooting Handbook put out thru the USCCA.   I’ve considered Rob the “rock n roll” gun instructor.  He’s always on the road, crisscrossing the country, teaching courses, speaking at events, doing TV, radio, & podcasts.  He’s embraced the ‘nomadic lifestyle’ and said he even had a blog called “Homeless By Choice”, but hasn’t been able to keep that going with everything else he’s doing. Which lead to some dating advice from Rob.  You can’t miss that!   He does admit that his travel schedule is real!  We see his pictures all over the place. In September, he was scheduled to be in Arizona, Florida, New Hampshire, Massachusetts. He was going to the NRA meeting in Alaska, but those were changed to Virginia. But the schedule and traveling really started out by saying “yes” to doing a course anywhere where people want them. Its taken a few years to make it linear and less zigzagging around the country.    Finally I asked about how he would bring someone new into firearms and shooting. When asked about getting someone into shooting that is apprehensive, he says simply “don’t do it”. If someone isn’t ready for owning a gun or carrying a gun, then its ok to wait and get more education. Do some reading and get some education and training and “make sure you’re ready”. Favorite quotes: “The government makes it hard to be homeless”“In between marriages... “I’d basically be homeless” “If you’re not ready for it (gun ownership), then you’re not” Here’s what you can find Rob Pincus on social media outlets.    Rob Pincus Social Mediahttps://www.facebook.com/RobPincusPro/ Save the 2Ahttp://www.savethe2a.org/https://www.facebook.com/2ao.org/ Walk The Talk Americahttps://walkthetalkamerica.org/ https://www.facebook.com/walkthetalkUS/   Personal Defense Networkhttps://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/ https://www.facebook.com/PersonalDefenseNetwork/ https://www.youtube.com/user/PersonalDefenseNet   Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/pincusrob/   I.C.E. When he was 16, Lou Barlow formed Deep Wound. Two years later, he and the hardcore band’s  drummer, J Mascis would create Dinosaur Jr. (then simply Dinosaur), one of alternative’s most beloved and influential groups. Barlow stuck around for three albums — regarded by many as the band’s best. That would have been enough to have cemented his status in the indie rock pantheon, but the music would go on to form an additional pair of hugely influential groups: Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion. The former, in particular was a defining voice of the genre’s lo-fi revolution. And like Dinosaur, the group resumed operations earlier this century, now boasting a pair of post-hiatus LPs. 2013’s Defend Yourself was met with largely positive reviews, though Barlow is quick to dismiss certain aspects as the result of a particular rough patch in his personal life. This year’s Act Surprised, however, finds both Barlow and the rest of the group in top form.

LifeFight w/ Jermaine Andre: Personal Development | Self-Defense | Fitness | Personal Safety

Now things are starting to get REAL serious with me because the topic of this LifeFight segment is self-defense. The reason that this is more serious is because now I am speaking in regards to you defending your life and/or the life of someone that you care for. And as drastic and imperative a topic as this sounds in this letter, most today pay it little attention. Self-defense is something that you may or may never have to use in your life. However, it must be understood that if you do ever have to use it, your life may depend on it. Thus, it is probably a good idea to be very well trained in defending yourself. Self-defense isn’t as difficult or life altering as most think. Excuses are mustered up every day to avoid the task of finding a good self-defense instructor and attending his or her facility for a day of life saving lessons. Sometimes these lessons will take less time and money that it takes to shop for a pair of shoes. The most powerful element of self-defense is awareness. Basic awareness can eliminate your chance of being attacked to 1%. Attacks are planned in certain areas and executed upon certain types of people. This “Defend Yourself!” segment of LifeFight will verse you with the knowledge to predict when someone is planning to make a move on you! Believe it or not there is something that many fear in regards to self-defense over the attacker! That fear is of THE LAW! Numerous innocent people are confused on when they can legally defend themselves! Are you confused on this too? This can be a difficult thought when fear begins to creep under our skin because fear can convince us to respond before we should and/or to overreact when we response. I go in depth with an explanation on when it is appropriate for you to turn it on and issue an old school John Wayne on a perp! Self-defense doesn’t always mean that you have to develop the fighting skills of an MMA, Boxing or Kickboxing great. Some of the best self-defense lies within self-defense tools like, Pepper Spray, Kubatons, Batons, and even firearms. However, there still has to be proper mental training to use a defense too properly. You’d actually be surprised at which self-defense tool is my favorite. It’s one that I have used repeatedly during bodyguard and security situations on some of the toughest gangbangers and bikers on the planet! Be sure to find some time to listen to ‘Defend Yourself” so you can put yourself and your loved one’s a step ahead of those who are out there waiting to make you a victim. Because your protection lies within what you know to Defend Yourself. Sincerely, Jermaine Andre’Life Fight - Show 003 - Self Defending

Sincerely, Jermaine Andre’ Life Fight - Show 003 - Self Defending

Self-defense isn't as difficult or life altering as most think. Self-defense doesn't always mean that you have to develop the fighting skills of an MMA, Boxing or Kickboxing great. Some of the best self-defense lies within self-defense tools like, Pepper Spray, Kubatons, Batons, and even firearms. However, there still has to be proper mental training to use a defense too properly. You'd actually be surprised at which self-defense tool is my favorite. It's one that I have used repeatedly during bodyguard and security situations on some of the toughest gangbangers and bikers on the planet! Be sure to find some time to listen to ‘Defend Yourself” so you can put yourself and your loved one's a step ahead of those who are out there waiting to make you a victim. Because your protection lies within what you know to Defend Yourself. Sincerely, Jermaine Andre' Life Fight - Show 003 - Self Defending
