This week Vidar was in Stratford-upon-Avon for a fresh new production of Shakespeare's comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor. About The Merry Wives of Windsor: ‘Revenged I will be, as sure as his guts are made of puddings.'   Curtains are twitching and tongues are wagging in this fresh new production of Shakespeare's suburban comedy. When an out-of-pocket schemer arrives among the lawns and herbaceous borders of Windsor, he sets about seducing two well-to-do married women. It's the perfect hustle. Surely one of them will fall for his irresistible charms? But in this neighbourhood, wives talk. And they're about to play some tricks of their own...   Lies! Jealousy! Dirty laundry! The Merry Wives of Windsor is an uproarious tale of mischief and double-dealing where the women get the last laugh. What goes on at Number 22 is absolutely everybody's business.   Blanche McIntyre (The Two Noble Kinsmen, All's Well That Ends Well for the RSC, Arabian Nights at Bristol Old Vic) returns to direct The Merry Wives of Windsor at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon There will be another audio described performance of this summer belter of a production of The Merry Wives of Windsor in Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday 30 August at 7.15pm and for more about access at the royal Shakespeare Company including details of described performances do visit - https://www.rsc.org.uk/your-visit/access (Image shows RNIB logo. This time Vidar was taken on a journey from the rugged gangways of Tilbury docks to the grandeur of Queen Victoria's Palace unveiling the culture of British Asian history in the late 19th century with Tanika Gupta's revised new production of her play The Empress at the RSC's Swan theatre on Saturday 19 August at 1pm with description by Professional Audio Describers Julia Grundy and Gethyn Edwards. About The Empress  It is 1887, the year Queen Victoria celebrates her Golden Jubilee. Sixteen year old Rani Das, ayah (nursemaid) to an English family arrives at Tilbury docks after a long voyage from India, to start a new life in Britain. On the boat from India, Rani, an ayah (nursemaid) befriends a lascar (sailor), an Indian politician and a royal servant destined to serve the Queen. Full of hopes and dreams of what lies ahead, they each embark on an extraordinary journey.    Will their expectations come true or will they have to forge a different path in their new country?    Spanning 13 years over the ‘Golden Era' of Empire, this story blends the experiences of Indian ayahs and lascars who worked on the ships carrying trade goods, alongside the first Indian politician to be elected as a Member of Parliament. This epic story reveals how socially diverse the Asian presence was in nineteenth century Britain.   Directed by Pooja Ghai, Artistic Director of Tamasha, Tanika Gupta's The Empress will take you from the rugged gangways of Tilbury docks to the grandeur of Queen Victoria's Palace, whilst unveiling the long and embedded culture of British Asian history. The Empress continues at the RSC Swan Theatre until 18 November and will transfer to London's Lyric Hammersmith Theatre for four weeks only from 4 to 28 October. Follow Shawn on social media: Twitter: @iamshawnahmed website: www.iamshawnahmed.com POV: www.povfilm.org keep safe and stay super! Shawn Ahmed is an award-winning actor, writer and producer based out of Toronto. His grade 4 teacher recognised his wild imagination and ability to engage his classmates, so she cast him as the lead in the school production of Grease. Thus, began his love for storytelling. Even while he earned a Specialist in Economics and Economic History at the University of Toronto, he found a way to perform; working on stages in the backs of bars, church basements, and at street festivals. Shawn has since amassed a lengthy list of credits in film, TV, and theatre. He is called upon to deliver dramatic monologues on The Expanse (Syfy), provide comedic breaks in his recurring role on the hit series, Coroner (CBC/The CW), or to fight alongside the Royal Army in Far Cry 4 (Ubisoft). He is known for balancing line between comedy and drama, with a penchant for playing quirky character. Critics describe his work as “immensely sympathetic”, while some note his “quick wit”. One time in high school his friend yelled “Shawn's weird!” and everyone ran away from him. The next day his peers had turned “Shawn's Weird” into a song with an angelic three-part harmony (true story). These types of incidents and having the term “odd duck” levied towards him have made him wonder, “do I have the same curse as Keanu Reeves? Am I a character actor trapped in a leading man's body?!” He asked this question to Toni Braxton, who he stars alongside in the upcoming MOW franchise Fallen Angles Murder Club (Lifetime Network), to which she responded, “bro, I'm trying to eat my lunch here!” Notable credits include Under the Christmas Tree (Lifetime Network), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (The CW), Slasher (Chiller), Awake (Netflix), Twilight Zone (CBS), Love on Harbour Island (Hallmark), Hudson and Rex (City TV), Siren (Freeform), Rogue (Direct TV), Max and Shred (Nickelodeon), Saw VI (Lionsgate), Flight 93 (A&E), as well as the voice of Stephen Singh on Superhuman Public Radio. On-stage, Shawn has garnered critical acclaim for his work on The Orchard (After Chekhov), Of Marriage and Men (Shaw Festival); Twelfth Night (Shakespeare Bash'd); Romeo and (her) Juliet (Dauntless Theatre); And Slowly Beauty… (Tarragon Theatre); Macbeth (Driftwood Theatre); Comedy of Errors, Revolutionary Moments, and More Words! More Play! (Shakespeare&Company). Shawn proudly sits on the board of directors at POV Films, a charitable organization that helps marginalized youth break into the film and television industry through training, mentorship, job placement, and professional development. Over the past decade, POV has done a terrific job finding and training individuals to work within the industry. Shawn believes the next step for POV is to find the best and brightest and turn them into leaders. With this in mind, he reconnected with Fibe TV1 over at Bell media (where he's sold three of his own shows) and pitched a series of projects led by people he found and vetted through POV. Four of the five shows were greenlit and will air across Canada in 2022. Robert wrote it for his grandchildren. Think of it as an updated version of Paul Simon's 1968 song, “At The Zoo”.The reviews of “To The Zoo!” have been so heartwarming. Indie Shark calls it “joyous” and a “standout”. Hollywood Digest calls it “immensely refreshing”. Indie Music Reviews says its got an “early Beach Boys sound”. In 2016 Jessica can be seen in her most notable role to date, costarring opposite Paul Reubens and Joe Manganiello in “Pee-Wee's Big Holiday,” slated for premiere on Netflix in March. Jessica shines as Pepper, head of an all-girls gang of bank robbers who doesn't take crap from anyone, including Pee-Wee. Born and raised in New York City, Jessica attended a liberal arts college and received her Bachelor's Degree in Art History. During college she spent her summers studying at The Atlantic Theater Acting School in New York City, where she began her formal training in acting. Upon graduation Jessica toured for a year with a Shakespeare Company and then studied Corporeal Mime in Paris. When she returned to NYC after spending some time in the City of Lights, Jessica worked with dozens of new writers, creating characters at downtown venues from The Flea Theater, to PS 122, to 59 East 59. Her work in film and television kickstarted however, when she moved to Los Angeles. Once arriving in LA, Jessica booked a handful of television guest-star roles right off the bat. Her TV credits include: “Stalker,” “Rake,” “Modern Family,” “Super Fun Night,” “Bella and the Bulldogs,” and “Welcome to the Family.” In 2015, Jessica got back to her theater roots in LA and won The Ezra Buzzington Spirit of the Fringe Award for female performance for her work in Jason & (Medea). In 2015 Jessica also landed her co-starring role in “Pee-Wee's Big Holiday,” her biggest role to date.
