My guest today is a lifelong martial artist whose journey into self-defense began not with trophies or titles, but with necessity, responsibility, and a deep desire to protect others. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1987, Addison Plaisance is a true child of the '90s—raised on Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, and the belief that real strength comes from discipline, purpose, and service. His childhood was far from easy. Growing up with an abusive older brother, Addison learned early how to de-escalate danger, remain calm under pressure, and shield the people he cared about. Those formative experiences shaped his view of martial arts—not as a tool for dominance, but as a path toward peace and responsibility. At just 13 years old, Addison began training at Silver Dragon TaeKwonDo Academy in Morgan City, Louisiana under Master Raymond Rutledge and Master Brian Rutledge. There, he learned far more than techniques. Master Ray instilled resilience, humility, and the importance of keeping one's guard up—physically and spiritually. By age 18, Addison earned his 1st-degree black belt before heading to Louisiana State University, where he continued training, led the LSU TaeKwonDo club, competed in national qualifiers, and expanded his knowledge through Judo. Along the way, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a Master's in Plant Pathology. His career eventually brought him to Fargo, where he managed greenhouses for NDSU and unexpectedly stepped into one of his most meaningful roles—becoming a devoted single father. Years later, while simply driving around in search of an arcade, fate intervened. Addison and his daughter discovered Red River Traditional TaeKwonDo, and just like that, he found himself back where he belonged—training, assisting, and giving back to the martial arts community. Today, Addison teaches a dedicated Friday sparring class, not for money or recognition, but because he believes service is the highest calling. Alors que les bandes armées continuent de terroriser les populations des quartiers de Port-au-Prince, comme à Solino, le gouvernement de transition décide de prolonger et d'étendre l'état d'urgence dans plusieurs départements d'Haïti. Une mesure qui, depuis son instauration mi-juillet, n'a pas permis d'enrayer la violence des gangs. Instauré le 17 juillet 2024, l'état d'urgence sécuritaire était renouvelé pour un mois, selon un communiqué du ministère de la Justice et de la Sécurité publique publié le 19 août 2024. Selon le communiqué, cette mesure, note le quotidien Le Nouvelliste, a été prise « dans le but de faciliter le rétablissement de l'ordre public, la paix sociale et la sécurité ». L'état d'urgence concerne les départements de l'Artibonite et de l'Ouest, comme c'était le cas en juillet, mais aussi les départements du Centre, des Nippes et les arrondissements de Plaisance et de Limbé. « Coïncidence ou simple hasard », relève Frantz Duval dans son éditorial du Nouvelliste « des résidents de Solino manifestaient (lundi 19 août 2024) pour réclamer un appui des forces de l'ordre pour pouvoir défendre leur quartier attaqué par des gangs depuis des jours ». Solino qui est venu s'ajouter à la liste qui renferme « Ganthier, Gressier, Carrefour, Cabaret et autres localités qui, ces derniers temps, ont été attaqués par les gangs alors que le pays vit sous le régime de l'état d'urgence sécuritaire qui renforce les pouvoirs des forces de l'ordre », note l'éditorialiste. Dimanche 18 août 2024, rappelle le site d'AlterPresse, plusieurs maisons ont été incendiées lors d'une nouvelle attaque contre le quartier de Solino par des bandits armés de l'organisation criminelle « Vivre Ensemble ».Les habitants de plusieurs communes haïtiennes obligés de fuirLes habitants des communes de Ganthier et Fonds Parisien, dans le départ de l'ouest, subissent elles aussi la fureur des gangs, comme le dénonce le CADDHO, le Collectif des avocats pour la défense des droits de l'homme. Interrogations et appréhension dans la presse du continent après la percée du Rassemblement national au premier tour de scrutin dimanche. « Au-delà des frontières françaises, l'arrivée du RN au pouvoir suscite des inquiétudes, pointe le quotidien malien en ligne Malikilé, avec la perspective d'un gouvernement xénophobe et aux tendances illibérales à la tête de l'une des puissances majeures en Europe. Cette éventualité souligne l'importance des décisions à venir pour l'avenir de la France et de l'Union européenne. La semaine à venir s'annonce décisive pour la politique française, alors que le pays se trouve à un tournant historique. Les citoyens devront se prononcer entre la continuité ou le changement radical, décision qui aura des répercussions majeures sur l'avenir de la nation et de l'Europe dans son ensemble. »L'inquiétude des migrants…« Quels enjeux pour l'Afrique ? », s'interroge pour sa part Le Pays au Burkina Faso. « La question qui taraude les esprits est celle de savoir si les Français ont, cette fois-ci, et pour la première fois, décidé de donner les clefs du Palais Bourbon à l'extrême droite, dont les principales caractéristiques sont le chauvinisme, le racisme, la xénophobie et son non-respect des lois nationales et internationales de protection des droits humains, entre autres. (…) C'est un scénario fort possible quand on sait qu'ailleurs, d'autres leaders d'extrême droite comme Trump aux États-Unis, Orban en Hongrie ou Milei en Argentine, ont déjà été élus sans coup férir. »Et pointe encore Le Pays, les migrants ont de quoi être inquiets…« Il est évident que l'extrême droite, qui a toujours considéré les migrants comme les responsables de presque tous les maux qui minent la société française, devrait, une fois sa victoire confirmée au second tour, mettre la pression sur les pays qui bordent la Méditerranée pour qu'ils protègent les frontières hexagonales par tous les moyens. Ceux qui arriveront miraculeusement à échouer sur les côtes européennes et à entrer clandestinement en France feront l'objet de stigmatisation et de contrôles au faciès, avant d'être rapatriés menottes aux mains et sans ménagement. Et pour ceux qui voudront rallier Paris régulièrement et par les airs, ils doivent, d'ores et déjà, savoir que les visas seront accordés aux compte-goutte. Il sera encore plus difficile pour les Africains de se rendre en France. »L'appréhension des Algériens…Justement, le site d'information algérien TSA exprime ses craintes… « Le RN a promis de supprimer certaines aides sociales aux immigrés en situation régulière, de réserver les logements sociaux aux Français, d'expulser les immigrés légaux qui resteraient plus de six mois au chômage – même s'ils ont travaillé et cotisé pendant des années -, de réduire le nombre de visas aux étrangers, interdiction du voile islamique dans l'espace public, instauration des quotas pour l'abattage halal… Le RN promet (aussi) d'engager un bras de fer avec l'Algérie, avec suppression des visas et dénonciation de l'Accord de 1968 sur l'immigration (…). En somme, soupire encore TSA, le RN promet de croiser le fer avec les partenaires de l'autre côté de la Méditerranée. Un discours haineux et belliqueux qui semble séduire une partie de la population française. L'Érythréen Biniam Girmay est un redoutable finisseur. "Pour réussir un sprint, il faut fermer les yeux et se jeter dans la mêlée", plaisante le vainqueur du jour.
