Dan is late-arriving due to legal work at his firm, so Ryan reprises his Tuesday primary night interview with the victorious Rep. Lauren Boebert who successfully moved from the 3rd Congressional District to the 4th and won.Dan then explains why Tuesday's results are so important for a Colorado Republican party, and more importantly its voters, looking to win in November.
Dan expects no surprises or upsets on primary night in Colorado, as Ryan prepares for a four-hour odyssey in covering the results live. Denver mayor Mike Johnston continues to prioritize housing illegals and homeless over law enforcement and safety in this city, and the results have deadly consequences for its residents.

Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut as primary night commences in five states highlighting candidates who are trying to get their hands on the key offices overseeing voting. Make no mistake, democracy itself is on the ballot, Joy tells us. Also on the ballot today is reproductive rights in Kansas. A referendum there would strip women of their right to choose unless enough people vote no. Plus, Speaker Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday, even though China is furious about the trip. We explore the purpose of her visit. Finally, Trevor Reed, the former Marine who spent three years behind bars in Russia, and is now speaking out for the release of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan, joins The ReidOut. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
Voters in five states—Arizona, Michigan, Missouri, Washington and Kansas—head to the polls with less than 100 days until the November general election. Some 2020 election deniers are on the ballot in two swing states. CNN Chief National Correspondent John King joins AC360 to break down the key races. Plus, CNN has learned that January 6 text messages were wiped from phones of key Trump Pentagon officials. Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe tells Anderson Cooper that “in the absolute least case” this is a “complete and total failure to abide by and live up to the responsibilities under the Federal Records Act.”To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

The North Dakota Republican Party, the dominant force in our state's politics, is deeply divided. If anyone was hoping that primary night, which saw that divide driving the debate in legislative competitions across the state, was going to resolve things they're in for a disappointment. Republicans across the state voted, and the NDGOP remains about as divided as ever. We talked about it on this episode of Plain Talk. First Jim Poolman, former insurance commissioner and former vice chairman of the NDGOP, joined Wednesday co-host Chad Oban and I, then Pat Finken, a long-time veteran of state politics and head of the Brighter Future Alliance, chimed in. Every ten years, the U.S. Census aims to make a count of every American, but in 2020, that job was harder than ever, only partly because of the pandemic. Earlier this year, the Bureau announced it had likely undercounted the number of non-whites across the country. Now, it says it also undercounted and overcounted people in 14 states -- in some cases by seemingly large amounts. How will this impact the users of census data, including government agencies, non-profits, and pollsters? NPR's Hansi Lo Wang joins the discussion to walk us through it all. Then, we're looking at the GOP primary results in Georgia where two candidates Trump vehemently and actively opposed -- Governor Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensburger -- won big over Trump's handpicked competitors. Coupled with mixed results for Trump earlier this cycle, does it show the GOP is less Trump's party than the party of Trumpism? Finally, based on all the bring-back-the-dinos-from-their-DNA movies, you may be surprised at the #1 pick when people are asked which extinct species they'd like to bring back. Spoiler: T-Rex may be big in Hollywood, but not many people want him/her/them in their backyard.
Fellas break down Tuesday's primary election results and discuss the latest animal news before playing a game of King of the Hill. NBA sensation Jonathan Isaac joins the progrum for an interview.

Sixteen months after Donald Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill to try to stop the certification of Joe Biden as president, a prominent election denier in Pennsylvania inched closer to becoming the next governor of Pennsylvania. State Sen. Doug Mastriano — who attended and helped organize for the “Stop the Steal” rally, has called for audits of Keystone State votes and has been subpoenaed by the House Jan. 6 panel — clinched the GOP gubernatorial nomination. If he wins this fall, he'll be in a position to nominate the next Pennsylvania secretary of state, a position that oversees elections in the key presidential battleground state. And, one week after catapulting J.D. Vance to victory in Ohio, Trump had a somewhat decent night, though the verdict on perhaps his biggest gamble — supporting Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania's tight Senate primary — is still out. It took another Sunday to get it done, but the results (http://primarias2020.ceepur.org/) from Puerto Rico's 2020 primaries are in, and as with any major election (https://www.latinorebels.com/2020/08/16/vazquezlosesprimary/) , there are big losers (hello, current governor of Puerto Rico) and winners (like the island's fiscal control board). Primaries in Connecticut’s municipal elections could’ve been a dull affair, but that was certainly not the case last night. You had a big upset: Justin Elicker, in his second try at the mayor’s job in New Haven, beating incumbent Toni Harp, a force in Democratic politics for decades. You had an incumbent mayor Luke Bronin easily beating back challenges from a former mayor and state rep. And, you had another incumbent, Joe Ganim, very narrowly defeating state Senator Marilyn Moore, in a race so close it came down to a few hundred absentee ballots. This hour, we look back at what these primaries mean, and we look ahead to this week’s presidential debate, where a thinned, but still pretty hefty slate of Democrats face off in the next round of herd-thinning as we head toward the 2020 election.Support the show: http://wnpr.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America cheer the results of primaries in Florida and Arizona, pointing out that the GOP enjoyed turnout advantages in both states, and got its best option for holding the Senate seat in Arizona while Democrats nominated an avowed socialist for governor of Florida. They also unload on a Catholic cardinal from Chicago for suggesting Pope Francis cannot go down "rabbit trails" like rampant allegations of pedophile priests and bishops who covered up the crimes because the pontiff needs to focus more on climate change and building acceptance for migrants. And they roll their eyes as Democrats and the media (but we repeat ourselves) are horrified that any Republican senator would not immediately rush to rename a Senate office building in honor of John McCain and that any opposition to the idea is an endorsement of the segregationist views of the senator for whom the building is currently named.

In Georgia, Stacey Abrams trounced her opponent and will campaign this fall to become the first female African-American governor in history. In Kentucky, fighter pilot Amy McGrath proved her naysayers wrong when she upset Jim Gray, the former mayor of Lexington recruited by national Democrats.Politico Georgia Democrats selected the first black woman to be a major party nominee for governor in the United States on Tuesday, choosing Stacey Abrams, a liberal former State House leader, who will test just how much the state’s traditionally conservative politics are shifting.African-Americans made up about 30 percent of the electorate, and nine in 10 gave their votes to Jason Carter, the Democratic nominee and a grandson of the former president Jimmy Carter. But nearly two-thirds of voters in 2014 were white, according to exit polls. Mr. Carter lost his race by eight percentage points — and a little more than 200,000 votes — to Mr. Deal. Ms. Abrams will have to drive minority turnout far higher, without losing ground among whites, to avoid Mr. Carter’s fate. NYT
August 1 was the primary election and we've been watching several races here at the Wire, including the crowded race to become the next mayor of Seattle. So Tuesday night, we sent a team of reporters to four election night parties, which just happened to be the four candidates in the lead at the end of the night: Jenny Durkan (31.6%), Cary Moon (15.6%), Nikkita Oliver (13.9%), and Jessyn Farrell (11.8%). Our reporters talked with candidates and their supporters before and after the preliminary results. But with the results not final until August 15, we'll be checking the results for this race, and the other elections in Washington until then.
