Making a Scene Brings you Gerry Casey's Interview with Charlie McGettiganCharlie McGettigan is a folk singer, has released a few CDs, lives in a proper small town and by the way, in 1994 won the Eurovision Song Contest together with his musical partner Paul Harrington. So overall no big deal for an Irishman. Mr. McGettigan is so down to earth that Ralph Siegel looks much more like an absurd caricature of a completely insane Hybris honk. Oh well, Charlie also makes much better music than our percussionist Ralphi. http://www.makingascene.org

Mal die "New Music Awards" verliehen.

We have reached the third and final volume paying tribute to the master Ralphi Rosario and his legacy. He continues to remix massive hits to this day as in the recent "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande as well as RITMO by Black Eye Peas — both of which were monster hits in the past year and featured on these releases. Rosario's catalog of productions and remixes are vast and diverse going all the way back to 1987 even though he's been perfecting his craft for much longer. His songs and remixes have significantly contributed to the soundtrack of millions of gay boys and girls that to not recognize his work would be a travesty. I hope everyone has enjoyed this tribute series and make sure to hit him up live once things open back up sooner rather than later. I have another master DJ on tap who is not only Ralphi's peer but his equal. I'll leave that as a tease for now and will start dropping those sometime this next week or so. After, we'll dive right back into our spring series of Circuit & Anthems, Dance Club, Disco House and Peak Hour to carry you folks through spring break. Until then...ENJOY! I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Nicholas C. $20, Glenn A. $10, Ludovic D. $20, Casper Y. $50, Joe S. $50, Anthony S. $100 and Paul S. $50 for their generous donations in helping us renew our web hosting services. Party Favorz finally made it through the Ralphi Rosario Legacy series, which I overestimated its depth and ended up expanding to three volumes. Even then, there were a lot of great tracks I was loathe to leave on the cutting room floor but when compiling these tribute sets to legends that have been in the business as long as Ralphi has — you have to edit. Volume 2 picks up where we left off with some of his greatest work from over the years including last year's massive "RITMO" by Black Eyed Peas & J Balvin. The hits are included and the one y'all are really looking for will make an appearance on volume 3 (you know what I'm talking about). The goal here is to not only showcase the hits but a lot of the underground and lesser known tracks that were popular in the underground peak hour scene. Nevermind that he and Rosabel have done extensive work with Latin artists providing musical touch that only they could master (next to Pablo Flores, Tony Moran and to some extent Hex Hector and Junior Vasquez) so I did touch on some of those tracks throughout these sets. Overall, there's a great deal of diversity spread throughout these three sets. For those only familiar with the more commercial side of Ralphi Rosario — you're in for a pleasant surprise. I'll be back on Saturday with the final volume. Until then...ENJOY! Ralphi Rosario is an American house musician an founding member of the influential Chicago DJ group Hot Mix 5. The group was formed in 1981 while Ralphi was still in high school at the time the group became one of the major early forces of the burgeoning House Music scene in Chicago. By 1987, he collaborated with Xaviera Gold for "You Used To Hold Me," which has gone on to be one of the most influential early House Music tracks of all-time for what later was a revolution on the dancefloor. While Ralphi continued to put out early House Music releases throughout the nineties — his style rapidly changed when he teamed with Miami's DJ Abel (Aguilera) to form Rosabel a hybrid version of his last name and Abel's first name for a new more tribal house sound that he continued to perfect through today. Later the duo would introduce more Latin influences in their work while producing muscular House Music tracks for major artists that showcased their heritage and alternate musical influences. As a duo they have racked up five #1 Billboard Dance Club hits and Rosario has racked up fourteen Top Ten Dance Club Hits and two #1 hits. This does not include the hundreds of #1 hits for remixes of other artists including, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Chaka Khan, Cher, Crystal Waters, Cyndi Lauper, Donna Summer, Erika Jayne, Gloria Estefan, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Kristine W, Kylie, Mariah Carey, ONO, Rihanna, Jennifer Holliday, Pussycat Dolls, Selena Gomez, Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and countless others. The list is exhausting but 90% or more are all included in the Party Favorz Diva Hall of Fame. With over 60 hours of tracks (which doesn't even come close to his breathtaking catalog) to choose from — I had numerous ways to approach these two sets honoring the master. I finally settled on hitting on the gayest tracks with the biggest divas and spread it out between the nineties and millennium with some rare tracks and some underground sounds that were predominantly only heard in queer clubs. Once I put out the volume 2 — all told there will be approximately 8+ hours of classics for your enjoyment. These sets are note intended to showcase his entire career but they are a good start. It took me awhile to wrap my head around this but I believe I've done a damn good job at representing some of his finest work whether solo or collaborative. It is my distinguished honor to induct one of the most prolific and influential House Music DJ/Producers of the last 40 years, Ralphi Rosario into the Party Favorz Legacy series. Prepare to be blown away! For years, Ralphie Jacobs of @simplyonpurpose has been teaching parents to find the good in their children! And today, she is answering a few of the most common questions we see in our MomForce Facebook group. Question 1: How do you discipline a child when they do NOT listen? Ralphi tells us to first think about what we are expecting our child to do and then to remmebr that there are 2 steps to compliance: starting to comply and then full compliance. So if you want your child to turn off the TV and come to dinner, tell them they have 20 seconds to get ready to come to dinner. Then follow up with “Now it’s time to come to dinner” Children want to please their parents but they need to know what their expectations are - and remember - they model what they see. Question 2: How do you stop children from teasing/fighting? Did you know that 90% of sibling conflict is inconsequential - meaning it does not require your attention. As soon as you insert yourself into the conflict, it prolongs the problem and it turns into sibling rivalry - who gets mom on their side!? Ralphie reminds us that when she overhears her children argue, instead of getting upset, she reminds herself that they are safe. They feel secure enough to talk about their problems in a home that is full of love, knowing they will be supported when they make mistakes. Children learn valuable lessons on how to properly resolve conflicts when they are given the chance to do so. Remeber. You are the parent and you get to decide how far you will let the conflict go and when to step in. SImple, direct statements, said in love and compassion will help diffuse a situation that may have gotten out of hand. They are kids, after all. Question 3: How do you discipline a two and a half year old? I need something that I can do consistently and everywhere. Our favorite quote from the episode came when Ralphie was answering this question. She said that to discipline is to teach! She also says that most of our children’s misbehavior is actually stress behavior. Ask yourself - Is my child tired? Hungry? Anxious? The same goes for teenagers. Instead of a tantrum, they act tough and “intimidate” But are they tired? Overworked? Stressed? A good night’s sleep does wonder for toddlers and teenagers alike! Ralphie leaves our listeners with her last words of encouragement which are “It’s never too late to make positive changes” Kids are inherently good. And we are the exact best parents our kids need. And like Ralphie likes to say - “When a child feels well, they behave well!”
Matthew and Edwin sit down with Chicago music legend Ralphi Rosario to discuss his beginnings as a musician, as well as some of his newest work.

After a 14-year journey with Rick, we've decided to part ways. It's a challenging moment, yes, but it's led to something emotionally raw yet cathartic: a compilation of early break-up dance classics. Party Favorz offers this unique set to accompany the myriad feelings a break-up evokes—be it sadness, anger, regret, or even empowerment. Given the life transitions, including a move away from Atlanta, pardon the somewhat less polished mix set this time around. Despite this, I'm convinced that the collection will resonate with many of you, perhaps even offering a semblance of solace. This one's filed under our beloved Backspin category. Now, let's delve into this stirring collection of songs that capture the complexities of ending a relationship. The Groovefunkel New Disco remix of Gloria Gaynor's seminal "I Will Survive" transforms this gay anthem of empowerment into a dance-floor-ready battle cry. Another standout is Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," presented here in the Atlantic Soul Vocal Remix. This version adds a danceable twist to Mariah's poignant lyrics about love and loss. Toni Braxton's soul-wrenching "Un-Break My Heart" finds a new context in the Franktidrama Mix, while Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry On Their Own" offers a fresh perspective via the Alix Alvarez Sole Channel Mix. Celine Dion's "All By Myself," remixed by Tracy Young, and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" in the Hex Hector remix, add layers of emotional depth to these early break-up dance classics. For a modern touch, Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" receives the Ralphi & Craig remix, weaving a tale of assertiveness amidst sorrow. Further, Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" is transformed into a house epic by the Downtown London remix, adding sonic dimensions to the grief and anger the original so perfectly encapsulates. Alice Deejay's “Better Off Alone,” Rihanna's “Love The Way You Lie” remixed by the Italian Dandies, and Pink's “Please Don't Leave Me” in the Digital Dog remix also find their way into this cathartic dance set. Each track serves as a pillar of solace, standing strong amidst the chaos of human emotions. As I embark on a new chapter in my life, it's uncertain how soon Party Favorz will be back in full swing. However, rest assured that our mission to bring rhythm and beats to life's ups and downs remains steadfast. Until the next time...ENJOY! Rick and I moved back in together at the beginning of 2016 starting a new chapters in our lives. It's now 2023 and we're still together and plan on marrying soon. Thanks to all the Party Favorz followers for your well-wishes.

Part of this mix was played live at MDNA's Oscars After Party 2012. In the menu list for this mix are the most delicious AfterBeatS from Paulo,Offer Nissim, Alma Matris, Chad Jack, Sebjack, Ralphi Rosario, Azari & III, Sandro Silva,Kim Cooper, Jeff Valle and many others. All mixed up with my special "AfterGlow" sauce of reworks and mash-ups. N-Joy the "AfterGlow"!
Halloween is just around the corner; the time of year where all the queens attempt to outdo each other with the most outrageous and fabulous getup our deranged minds can conjure. To make the holiday even more fun, the ATL is celebrating our very first Pride over the weekend, ensuring a larger than normal turnout. Think about it, Halloween and Pride all at once, that's a lot of goodness wrapped up in one weekend. Even better, Pride returns to Piedmont Park since the drought of 2007-08. In fact, the city council just authorized all the bars to maintain extended serving hours. So, if the weather can hold up and sunshine and cooler temps prevail, this should prove to be an outstanding event. Then again, I'm looking at the weather for today in Google and it shows sunshine, when in fact we are still overcast and 59 degrees. I guess we'll just have to think positive. The sad part is, I won't be able to attend. Those of you that follow me on my personal page on Facebook, know that I am currently undergoing physical therapy after my recent surgery. With setbacks on the therapy side, I don't think I would be able to hobble around the park. It's a shame because, in the spirit of treats, I had planned to hit the park and few bars in my PF T-shirt and give away a bunch of promo CDs. It's something I've done several times before and a lot of fun; just not this go around. I'll go more into detail tomorrow on my next update on Facebook. In the meantime, I'm serving up a seriously HOT circuit adventure for all the boys. Initially, I was concerned because there just wasn't that much out at the moment and the Autumn Edition had pretty much sapped out all the new music. Never fear! I started scouring Beatport for some cool house tunes that would mix in well with what I already had and came up with a real winner in diversity and depth. Let's face it, all tribal beats all the time gets boring and you can expect I'll be going back to my mixed bag method on these mixes in the future. I think it just ads more interest and color to the overall set and keeps you (especially me) from getting bored. The hot tunes to single out here are Depeche Mode's "Perfect" the follow up to "Wrong" with Ralphi doing the remix honors and let's just say this is smoking! Bingo Players deliver "Devotion" in a HUGE way. For those that aren't familiar with the original, it was a #1 club hit by Nomad in 1991. Bingo Players take the original and beef it upbringing this classic to a whole new generation of house lovers. Another remake of sorts is Malente's "I Like It" which utilizes the famous KC & the Sunshine Band riff from "(That's the Way) I Like It. Currently, this song has been sitting in Beatport and Juno's Top Ten for well over a month. Maybe not your typical fare, but I assure you once the groove get's going, it works in a big way. Indie darling from the UK, Florence and the Machine, deliver the infectious "You Got the Love" with wonderfully unique vocals while Steve Pitron and Max Sanna re-work it for the dancefloor. This has been a surefire winner for me and something I've enjoyed listening to over and over. I brought back Ron Perkov's "Miss You" only because I'm really getting into the Mike Rizzo mix. This song has an abundance of mixes, and I had used Tony Moran's take in the Autumn Edition. Other's prefer Manny's take, but I'm generally over him at the moment. I also added Agne's massive hit "Release Me" with Razor n' Guido doing the honors. I have to say it's almost like they never left us. God bless the Razor n' Guido. I included Mariah's "IWKWLI" which for all the mixes it came with, the Nu Addiction club mix is the only one that even comes remotely close to doing it justice. I'm hoping Sony will pull out the money bag and serve us with a second set of mixes by Tony or Chris (amongst many possibilities) as a good contrast to the Mickey Mouse productions that were delivered. One can always dream. Finally,
Halloween is just around the corner; the time of year where all the queens attempt to outdo each other with the most outrageous and fabulous getup our deranged minds can conjure. Like I needed another excuse for another mix? Yes, it's my birthday... today. And yes, I made a mix for it. And yes, I'm even on vacation and posting this. Haha. So, I thought a birthday mix would be fun, but instead of just choosing a bunch of favorite dance songs from my collection, I needed to limit that down. So here is the rule... it had to be a mix that I added to my library in the last year of my life, but wasn't necessarily new when I did (save one, which I'll get to in a minute). Now, before some of you say, "I can't believe that you didn't have THAT song" or whatever, realize that most of these I already had some mix of, but for whatever reason these stayed under my radar. Be it because at the time, I had another mix I really favored, maybe heard before but my taste has changed a little, or -- heaven forbid -- totally didn't know existed. Ha. So get ready for some MAJOR random, but I think you may find some gems on here as I did (or maybe one of them will give you memories from a happy time or person in your life, as many do for me). This mix doesn't follow my normal flow, in that it starts off bright and happy, goes a little dark in the middle, then comes back around again. Being that it's so random, it was tough to get the layout right, but I think it works best this way for this particular mix. A few notes on some songs... first of all... The Boss. I'm sorry Diana and Kristine, but I really heart this version of that song. Toni sounds fantastic and this mix works just right. Copacabana... yes I'm a Fanilow, but imagine my happiness when I ran across a Ralphi remix. Love it. Go Your Own Way... Fleetwood Mac... enough said, other than it's one of my favorite songs of theirs (well, and give Dave credit here... he kept it true to the original). As far as the Thunderpuss mixes... well, yeah, there really isn't excuse other than I've been trying to fill in some holes and how could I not have had these. I know, I know. Which brings me to Mariah Carey vs Fragma - Toca's Together (Rauhofer's Inpetto Mashup Chris "Needs a Miracle" Edit). Okay, so I first heard the Peter mash-up this year at Disney. It was about 6:30am at the last afterhours and Peter was spinning (and just workin' it... he was great). I had made my way to the middle of the dancefloor by that point (by myself, I should add) and was already in my own world dancing to his music, loving every minute. Then, I heard the hint of (what I thought to be) Toca's Miracle, which is one of my favorite dance songs. Then, however as the song played, it wasn't Coco at all, but Mariah. I absolutely fell in love with the mash-up he did -- considering I usually hate mash-ups -- but I kept thinking (as I danced) I felt like something was missing. That something, to me, was "a miracle". So I did a little mash-up of my own... a mash-up of his mash-up, so to speak, which I give you here as Chris's "Need A Miracle" Edit. Here is a video from that actual moment, of course aweful sound quality. Finally, and speaking of Disney, I finish with Olivia Newton-John - Xanadu (Chris's Sparkly OMP DMC Edit). I first heard this remix at Disney in 2007. It was the song that Roland used for the Fireworks at One Mighty Party and Xanadu has to be one of my "queen-out-moment" favorites. Now, this one violates my rule for the mix above (I didn't find it in the last year), but bless it's heart... I really worked hard two years ago on this edit after that experience to take the DMC remix of that song and make it make how "sparkly" the Disney experience was for me that year. A little chopping, speeding up, and some injection of extra sound effects and I think I got it. It was just dying for an excuse to be used on a mix and, since its MY birthday, I guess I can violate my own rules... haha. :-) Here is another video moment, again sound quality is terrible, but you get the idea. I have included the year released... the year after the slash indicates when I did my edit. Here at Party Favorz, I don't take a break.okay, once in a while, but when it comes to serving up some of the freshest beats on the circuit, there's no time for disco naps, nor egg hunting. This is the final edition of spring and boy oh boy is it a scorcher! Starting off with Yinon's take on Deborah Cox's "Beautiful U R" which is an amazing prog mix that has a beautiful drop about 2/3 of the way in. Deep, dark and haunting, this is truly an amazing song that is supposed to have a second set of mixes coming out soon. In the meantime, Deborah also collaborated with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke for the star-studded "Leave the World Behind" which will be featured in my upcoming System Edition; so be on the watch for that. You may be scratching your head and wondering what the hell Acorn, I mean Akon is doing on this mix; especially since he's not a particular favorite of mine. Because Tracy Young worked this song every which way but loose! If you can get past the vocals, Tracy's "Monster Mix" is worth the price of admission. I already mentioned Razor 'n' Guido in my last post, so just know their re-work of the classic "Drop a House" is HOT! The Chriss Ortega mix of "My Life Would Suck Without You" had already appeared on my last BPM Edition, but is the only entry for this song that's worth the play. I really expected more from Tommy Sunshine and Friscia and Lamboy, but they basically turned in a mix that Jason Nevins could have worked out had he been asked to mix the song.eh! Then we've got the return of Depeche Mode and the elusive Peter Rauhofer mix currently only available as a promo. Why they left it off the commercial release is beyond me, because Peter's mix is not only the best but smoldering. I am a little concerned that David's vocals are not up to par, leaving one to wonder. We finally get some new mixes for Rihanna's "Breaking Dishes" and Ralphi, true to form, did not disappoint. I liked the 'Soul Seekerz' mix well enough from the original remix album that was released in conjunction with "Good Girl Gone Bad", but this version brings it to life. I just hope those are Chris' dishes she's breaking; in fact go ahead and bust his balls while you're at it. Probably my biggest disappointment here is the Junior Vasquez take on "Please Don't Leave". An absolutely beautiful song in its own right, I do believe he could have done better. This mix isn't bad but would have been better served with the full vocals. Sadly, P!nk's label didn't commission many mixes for this, though the Digital Dog mix (which appeared on my last BPM Edition) is still the best version and retains all the elements that make this song so moving. One of the weirdest treats in this mix comes from Jipsta's "I Want Your Sex". If you were thinking 'George Michael"', you thought right. I always thought this song was ripe for a remake, but never in a million years did I think a hip-hop/rapper would re-do it. All I can say is HELL YEAH! This song rocks and is accompanied by a ton of excellent mixes. I don't usually use Mike Rizzo except in the BPM mixes, but his slamming take warranted inclusion. The Perry Twins in collaboration with Niki Haris turn in a really fun song and is considerably beefed-up mix by the Escape & Capello team, who are currently riding high with one club hit after another. Another welcome surprise comes from Cevin Fisher. After last year's remake of his classic "You Got Me (Burnin' Up)", Cevin dove right back in his bag of goodies and brought out another classic "The Freaks Come Out". As with the last release, the mixes for this song are all stellar. I went with the Prok & Fitch remix because they are one of the underground darlings in the house scene at the moment and deliver a very memorable grind for this song. This is going to be HUGE! Capping off the mix, Nick Harvey delivers a tribal lover's dream with "Beat on the Drum" and the amazing Allan Natal take on Luis Erre's "...

It's looking like this might end up as a four mix set, so I decided to go ahead and start rolling the mixes out. I'm not completely sure about the fourth mix, but just in case...Anyway, I'll be putting these out each day through the weekend. As promised, I kept the mixes down in size, though I wasn't able to get this one under the 80 minute mark, I think everyone will live. There's definitely several HOT tunes in this mix and I thought I might get back to my short reviews of each song; so here goes... Album : Holiday Edition v1 Genre : Circuit, Progressive, Tribal Year : 2008 Total Time : 1:27:09.00 Track : 1 Title : I Stay In Love (Jody Den Broeder Club Mix) Artist : Mariah Carey I wasn't really feeling the Ralphi mixes of this song, however I totally love that Jody is showing us a funkier side of his production skills. In fact, he does it again on Leann Rimes' "What I Cannot Change". However, since I didn't want to get to early hour in this mix, I opted for the Bronleewe & Bose Extended Mix instead. Frankly, I'm just glad that Sony finally got around to releasing some more mixes from Mariah. Her album has not done as well as they had hoped, but her fans still want to hear her on the dancefloor. Essential. Track : 2 Title : Feels So Good (Klubjumpers Club Mix) Artist : Sean Ensign Klubjumpers appear to be the 'IT' guys of the moment. Sean's association with them has turned out another solid floor thumper. Catchy as hell, there's no doubt this will keep the boys movin'. Outstanding. Track : 3 Title : Sandcastle Disco (Escape & Coluccio Club Mix) Artist : Solange The other 'IT' guys of the moment are Escape & Coluccio; for that matter DJ Escape and anyone he produces with. Beyonce's baby sister is on fire with her second single which is currently #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. Equally exceptional is the Freemasons remix of this song featured in my Halloween Edition (Take 3). Essential. Track : 4 Title : Hell No (Tony Moran & Warren Rigg Club Mix) Artist : Judy Torres I thought I'd never say this, but I miss Tony & Warren. After inundating us with mix after mix from last year's "The Event", they pretty much oversaturated the clubs with their big room sound. After taking some time off, their back with a remix of this ultra hot Judy Torres tune. With it's call out hook "HELL NO" this song is irresistible no matter what the remix. Tony brings back his big room production style and applies it to great effect on this song. Essential. Track : 5 Title : Roots Before Branches (Almighty Extended Mix) Artist : Room For Two Almighty, the kings (or queens) of Euro power pop for the dancefloor are as relevant now as they were in the late 90s and early millennia. With it's big production style, amazing vocals and over the top drama, this mix borders on commercial trance that finds the hook and utilizes it to great effect. Unfortunately, I don't think this song will be the big hit it deserves to be. Why? No one has really picked up on it, at least not yet. So, I'm challenging everyone to drop this in the middle of a set and see if it don't drive those queens mad! Essential. Track : 6 Title : Feel It 2008 (The Mac Project Remix) Artist : The Tamperer feat. Maya Updated classic from 1998. Daddy Mac retains all of the original elements making it even bigger than I remember it. Essential. Track : 7 Title : Fashion (Arenna Mix) Artist : William Umana feat. Jenn Fashion is Dolce, Gabbana...Beyonce and Madonna. Oh SNAP! Track : 8 Title : Headphones (Almighty 12'' Anthem Mix) Artist : Leann Rimes I love the fact that Leann released an E.P. of mixes from her last two albums "Family" and "Whatever We Wanna". The two standouts are the Almighty remix of "Headphones" and the remixes for "What I Can Not Change" featuring productions by Jody Den Broeder (funky) Kaskade (mainstream progressive) and Bronleewe & Bose (big room trance). While the other cuts,

Here it is, the second installment of the House Edition v4, served up on a sizzling hot platter of disco with a side of seventies soul. The ATL has already been experiencing some fall-like weather with cooler evenings and temps ranging in the low to mid-eighties during the day. Suits me fine as I always enjoy the transition from summer to autumn. I'll be starting the much delayed Classix Edition: 90's part deuce shortly. Until then, I hope everyone has a great week and until the next time...ENJOY! Album : House Edition v4 Genre : Disco, Funky, House, Soulful Year : 2008 Total Time : 1:19:54:00 Track : 1 Title : Third Time (Shave Main Mix) Artist : Levi 5Star feat. Michelle Martinez Funky house with a pulsating beat and Michelle demanding "did you think that I was easy?" Think of it as one of those "I Am Woman" empowerment songs with an urgency that demands R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Essential Track : 2 Title : Hideaway 2008 (7th Heaven Club Mix) Artist : De'Lacy I'm going to be honest, I didn't know anything about this tune from 1995. I did hear some 2008 mixes that came out earlier this year, but I wasn't all that impressed, until now. Always lovin' the 7th Heaven vibe, this Hed Kandi promo has been rocking my world and guaranteed it will rock yours too. Essential. Track : 3 Title : Can You Feel That Sound (Josh Harris' Club Mix) Artist : Georgie Porgie IT'S GEORGIE TIME! ...and he's serving up some serious optimistic funk like no other. Sometimes I think that no matter how bad things get, Georgie always remains upbeat. He's probably someone I should be hanging around with right now. Since that ain't gonna happen, I'll settle for this heavenly slice of positive attitude. Essential. Track : 4 Title : Let It Go (Groove Assassins Remix) Artist : Afterlife feat. Cathy Battistessa Bringing the vibe down, we move into this slow-burning number with a very addictive bass line and soothing vocals by Cathy Battistessa. Essential. Track : 5 Title : Come Into My Life (Haldo's Original Mix) Artist : Haldo feat. Erika Scherlin When I saw this, I was hoping it might be a remake of the Joyce Sims classic from back in the day. Sadly, it is not. However, that certainly doesn't take anything from this song. Though not bad, it just feels like something is missing to really lure the listener in. That being said, there are several fantastic dub/vocal mixes that accompany the package that many of you might favor. Also, check out Haldo's Floor Mix which kicks it up a notch. Track : 6 Title : How Long (Davidson Ospina Vocal Remix) Artist : Linda Clifford I've been all over this song since I used the Paul Goodyear version in my Pride Edition v3. Ospina keeps the high tempo of Paul's mix but dresses it down in strict 90's house fashion. Now that we have the official remixes currently available on disc at Perfect Beat, I'm still hoping Linda's pal Ralphi hops on board with one of his sizzling peak hour mixes. Outstanding. Track : 7 Title : Release Your Mind 2008 (Richard Earnshaw Remix) Artist : Syke 'n' Sugarstarr What if Barry White hooked up with Richard Earnshaw and Syke 'n' Sugarstarr then created a funky house masterpiece? Folks, this IS what it would sound like. Essential. Track : 8 Title : Keep On Push (Outwave Project Remix) Artist : Alex Barattini Another song with a positive attitude set to swirling strings and a big disco beat. I'm really into these mixes that use the old school orchestration. Can you imagine what it must have cost for some of those seventies classics to be put together with a full orchestra? Essential. Track : 9 Title : Real Love (Original) Artist : Highland Skies feat. Amanda Pryce ABSOLUTELY LOVIN' THIS SONG! Definitely has the late eighties, early nineties vibe going on. I need to start looking out for more songs by Amanda because this is way beyond amazing. Quick, someone snatches her up and record a full album...we need more songs like this. Essential.
Welcome to part two of my 2008 Pride series. The only thing you need to know about this mix is that it's all about the DRAMA! You know us queens just love to be overly dramatic, and this mix fits the bill. From top to bottom, this should put even the dourest person in a good mood. I've pretty much got my set list together for the third mix, though I'm still waiting for the much delayed 'Fame' remixes by DJ Bill Bennett. Hopefully, Sony will stick to their promise and release them next week (fingers crossed). If you are a Sony rep or Bill's manager, feel free to cop me an advance so I can get my next mix finished in a timely manner. Just shoot off an email located in the 'about me' section of this site. I promised not to share (former Scout's honor). Well, that's about it folks. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay tuned, stay focused and most importantly stay free, gay & happy! I'll be back next week with mix three. Until then...Enjoy! Album : Pride Edition v2 Genre : Circuit, Tribal, Progressive Year : 2008 Total Time : 1:20:02:00 Track : 1 Title : Bring Your Soul Back (Ralphi's Percussive Soul Mix) Artist : Ralphi Rosario & Giangi Cappai Nothing special, but some good filler when you're kicking things off or just need something to transition. Track : 2 Title : Control Yourself (Manny Lehman Dub) Artist : Erin Hamilton Amazing new tune by Erin that has plenty of mixes to satisfy any floor. While Manny turns in one of his formulaic mixes, he drops in a mean groove in the middle that I turned around and tricked it up a bit to keep that feeling flowing. Can't wait for the vocal version coming out in late July with part 2 of the already fabulous first set of mixes. Track : 3 Title : Away From Me (DJ Luis Erre Remix) Artist : Altar feat. Amannda Previously used the Altar 'Big Room' mix on my 'Splash Edition', but with so many excellent mixes to choose from, I decided on this even bigger floor stormer that lies somewhere on the Trance tip. Track : 4 Title : Happy People (Timothy Allan Remix) Artist : Offer Nissim feat. Maya Funny how the title suggests something other than what the song really is. To me, this is a very sad song and probably one of the best things from Offer in a while. Also check out his original version which was on the 'Splash Edition'. Track : 5 Title : Automatic 2008 (J. Louis Tikaro & Ferran Vocal Mix) Artist : Ultra Nate It was bound to happen, some new updated mixes from last years mega-smash by Ultra Nate (naughty). Also check out the excellent Riff & Rays mix. Track : 6 Title : Give Some Love (Tristan Garner Crossover Remix) Artist : Antoine Clamaran & Mario Ochoa feat. Lulu Hughes Hot just got hotter! Totally feeling the over the top drama production by Tristan. Track : 7 Title : 4 Minutes (Peter Rauhofer Saves London Mix) Artist : Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake While Peter's 'New York' and 'Paris' mixes are decent enough, this version is still my fave. Besides, we all know the UK has better taste in music. Track : 8 Title : Over The Night (Allan Natal Energy Remix) Artist : Sentenela pres. Lipgloss feat. Liz Another song that made my 'Splash Edition'. While there are several outstanding mixes that accompany this song, I just can't get enough of Allan's massive drama room mix. Excellent companion to Sara Brightman's 'Harem' from a few years back. Track : 9 Title : When I Grow Up (Ralphi Rosario Club Vox) Artist : Pussycat Dolls While I'm not really feeling the original radio version of this song, Ralphi once again shows why he's the master. Totally blown away by this mix. Track : 10 Title : Hot Sahara (Lenny B Club Mix) Artist : Fans Of Jimmy Century If you were disappointed by Gold Frapp's recent musical direction, no need to worry. This two piece group out of San Francisco is picking up where the Frapp left off. Track : 11 Title : Like A Star (Frank Lamboy Mix) Artist : Kim Sozzi Haven't heard much from Kim lately.
I know I said I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to get this mix complete, but I sat down yesterday and knocked it out in about an hour. The problem I knew I was going to have was the Janet Jackson and the Mary J. Blige tunes. The HQ2 mix for Janet's "Someone To Call My Lover" is not very DJ friendly by any aspect. No intro and the outro begins to slow down making it useless for beatmixing, much less keying the song with another. "Family Affair" by MJB is more user-friendly but requires a very specific song to key into, which I knew I didn't have. So, I just did the easiest thing possible and performed a start/stop on the Janet and managed to beatmix the MJB. Nothing special, but it works. From that point on, this thing just flowed flawlessly! Overall, I'm not only surprised by how well this set came out by I am very pleased as well. What you have in this final mix is a 2001 house lovers dream come true. As previously stated, it contains several songs that I couldn't work in the rest of the mixes and several alternative versions from those previously used. For me, one of the sweet points is "In These Shoes" by Bette Midler. It's been a while since I listened to these mixes, but it dawned on me that the "Mark" in the "Mark's Heel to Platforms Vocal Mix" is actually Mark Picchiotti. Probably one his earlier mixes that I never appreciated as much as I do now. It's a perfect t-dance alternative to Jonathan Peter's big room Sound Factory remix featured earlier. The other surprise was Warren Clarke's sweet and funky take on J-Lo's "I'm Real". Obviously, I didn't pay much attention to these back in the day, but they sure are nice additions this go 'round. In fact, the same can be said for Friburn and Urik's "High Pass Mix" of PSB and Peter Rauhofer's "Break 4 Love". However, I was disappointed in Crystal Waters' "Come On Down". I'm not familiar with this version, which is sort of an Alex Gaudino Ibiza structured mix. I was hoping for the original or the Tamperer mixes which use the "Price is Right" theme for the groove. Though I'm not familiar with this version, it's decent enough to be included and I thank Eric for that. I'm still waiting for the used maxi to show up, but couldn't wait any longer to make the mix. You might also be wondering why I didn't go with the Ralphi Rosario Classic House mix of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". For one, typical of Rosabel and Ralphi, they used a lot of what I call "dirty beats" back then. They were uneven and had way too much percussion, resulting in my having to painstakingly go through each beat to ensure they match up. Frankly, I always thought that the Junior Vasquez mix was way underappreciated anyway, so I went ahead used that take instead. The end result of that decision is outstanding. Another song I fondly remember is Junior's bootleg take on the massive Blu Cantrell song "Hit'em Up Style" from that year. It was never an official release but it was hot! I want to thank Klaus for that long lost gem. After checking it out, it was much slower than I remember, so I had to speed it up to fit in with the rest of the mix. I don't think anyone will mind. So there you have it. My take on 2001, the year that was. I think the next Chrome Edition will go back and focus on some heavy hitters from the 90s before getting on to 2002. Regardless, that will still be several months away. For now, I think I'll start working on the next BPM Edition before getting into the Spring Edition. I'm holding out for a few hopefuls for that mix, but I should be able to get it out by Easter. I've got a busy week this week and have to make up for lost time from the last. Thankfully, the rain finally stopped yesterday afternoon and it's shaping up to be a gorgeous Sunday before the rain comes back on Wednesday. I hope everyone liked this throwback as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you. I've got no firm dates for the next mix, just know that it's coming up. So,
