The Pittsburgh Steelers fan base has been burned on more than one occasion since Ben Roethlisberger's retirement, and it seems as if they might be hesitant to buy in to the team's potential in 2025. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter welcomes podcaster Dave Dameshek to get his assessment of the team ahead of training camp next month at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They begin by pondering which young players could be x-factors in 2025, with a specific focus on the 2023 NFL draft class that included Joey Porter Jr., Broderick Jones, Nick Herbig, Keeanu Benton and Cory Trice Jr. Will those guys be the difference makers if coach Mike Tomlin and Co. are going to have a good season? Or, if they struggle, could they drag the whole team down regardless of what new faces like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and others bring to the table? Later, the guys look to Steelers history for lessons in leadership that could help the current squad. And Dave plays a game of "What If?" Imagining what might have happened had Ben Roethlisberger retired after his 2019 arm injury, and whether names like Jordan Love, Justin Herbert or Jalen Hurts could be the team's franchise quarterback right now.
Shane Gillis will host the ESPYS this summer. Which Pittsburgh athlete would you want to see host? We want to see Andrew McCutchen call games but Jason said McCutchen said he doesn't want to. Ben Roethlisberger would be great. Our top 5 athletes of the past 25 years.
Joe included Sidney Crosby, Ben Roethlisberger, Evgeni Malkin, Andrew McCutchen, Troy Polamalu. McCutchen is one of only three players in Pittsburgh this century to win an MVP. Malkin won Rookie of the Year, MVP, two scoring titles, playoff MVP, and three Stanley Cups. Mario Lemieux is the only other Pittsburgh sports athlete to win Rookie of the Year, MVP, and playoff MVP.
Hour 2 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: James Palmer is hearing there is a chance T.J. Watt gets over $40 million from the Steelers. Paying Watt over $40 million is extravagant. Who needs a bigger season – Mike Tomlin or Aaron Rodgers? Chris thinks the viewpoints from local and national media will be much different if things don't go well or it's another season that ends in a first-round playoff exit. Tomlin has had so much control over the position since Ben Roethlisberger retired and it has not gone well. Chris got into the butchering of Kenny Pickett and the clamps that were put on every other QB that has taken snaps.

Nicholas "Harry" Callas addresses the recent lack of accomplishments for Steelers' QB Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike Tomlin in the NFL. Also, is it being forgotten how good QB Ben Roethlisberger was for the Steelers?
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to ESPN's NFL quarter-century team released this week, which included only two Steelers on the 53-man roster. Why were Alan Faneca and Troy Polamalu the only names to make the cut? Did T.J. Watt deserve a spot over the Browns' Myles Garrett? And were names including Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Chris Boswell, Cam Heyward, Hines Ward, James Harrison and Maurkice Pouncey snubbed?

Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to recap a busy week of Pittsburgh sports news. Do the Steelers have their deepest roster since the Killer Bs era of Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown following the signing of QB Aaron Rodgers; the trade for WR DK Metcalf; and the NFL draft selections of names like Derrick Harmon, Kaleb Johnson and Will Howard? Or is this roster still too lacking in top-end talent to challenge like those teams of the past did? How does Rodgers, at age 41, stack up against QBs of recent vintage including Roethlisberger, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields? What moves should coach Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan make to further shore up the roster? And what does Jason think of the T.J. Watt holdout from minicamp? Our duo tackles those questions. Then later, Jason gives insight on the Dan Muse hiring by the Penguins one week later; and makes picks for the U.S. Open at Oakmont.
Sean McVay admitted that the Rams were ready to go after Aaron Rodgers if they didn't have Matt Stafford back. What would Rodgers look like in LA? The guys debated if that was one of the places he would thrive due to the offensive mind behind the talent that is still left in Rodgers' game. What if Ben Roethlisberger had a better offensive mind his final few seasons? Poni said he's tired of hearing about how much the Jets failed Rodgers last season.

Ben Roethlisberger is arguably the best Steeler of the 21st century, and he was followed up by Russell Wilson for only one season, and now Aaron Rodgers comes to town. How do all three legendary QBs line up against each other.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
There is a lot of risk for the Steelers taking Aaron Rodgers as QB1. The idea of a one-helmet guy goes out the window when the Steelers don't think you can play anymore. Joe thinks the Steelers pushed out Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, and Ben Roethlisberger out before they wanted to retire and were willing to leave open the possibility the first two would go elsewhere. Would T.J. Watt be ok not being a one-helmet guy?
Who was better - Ben Roethlisberger in his final year or Aaron Rodgers right now?

June 4, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 142 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the release of the Pittsburgh Steelers official 2025 training camp schedule. We go over key dates in training camp and much more. Steelers TE Donald Parham Jr. reportedly sustained an Achilles' injury on Tuesday, so we discuss what that means for him and the team. We also discuss the Steelers now seemingly being back in play to trade for Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith as of Tuesday evening. We go over our thoughts on whether Smith is worth trading for, what the compensation should be and if he should have his contract increased and extended into at least 2026. The Steelers are reportedly bringing in former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis in for a visit this week, so Alex and I discuss that news some. We talk about whether Davis would fit in with the offense, what his role would be, and if both of us would be for the team signing him. Alex and I then discuss how much better, if any, the Steelers would be if they were to add both Smith and Davis this offseason on the heels of the team trading away WR George Pickens several weeks ago. With the second week of OTA practices now underway as of Tuesday, Alex and I discuss several things related to that topic. We go over TE Darnell Washington reportedly dropping some weight, ILB Cole Holcomb reportedly being back fully healthy and much more. We go over who was not present for the Tuesday OTA practice as well. Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger attempted to clear the air some regarding his current and past relationship with QB Mason Rudolph during his latest podcast episode, so Alex and I go over what he had to say on that topic. We also do a small exercise related to what pick the Steelers could have made instead of Rudolph during the 2018 NFL Draft that might have appeased Roethlisberger at the time. This 87-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap. We end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Joe and Pomp go through a 12-pack, including Big Ben's comments on Mason Rudolph and we think the QB took another shot at Chris Mueller.
Ben Roethlisberger is trying to change the narrative on how he felt about Mason Rudolph when he was drafted in 2018. The guys went back in time a little bit to remember how it was when Rudolph first got here. Ben has a good relationship with several other backup QBs from his time, but Mason was not one of them. How is Mason looking in OTAs so far? A few insiders say he has been really showing signs of a starting QB.

Aditi brought up a story from one of her days on the sideline with CBS when Davis got upset on the sideline, but was happy to answer questions after the game. Aditi said she's more excited about Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin than she is about Davis or another middling veteran receiver. Is the Jonnu Smith stuff mostly a play of the agent so the tight end can get a new deal or could he really end up with the Steelers? Some good media chatter as well. Donny Football Debrief – Derrick Henry is an Adam Sandler fan. Who isn't?
Former 9-year NFL offensive tackle joined Bill to discuss the pressure Dan Campbell is facing in 2025, Mike Tomlin's inability to find a quarterback post-Ben Roethlisberger, why he's very down on Caleb Williams and if the Bengals will be able to return to Super Bowl contender status this season.
Longtime NFL reporter Ty Dunne joined Bill to discuss why Mike Tomlin has struggled so much in trying to find a franchise quarterback post Ben Roethlisberger, if Aaron Rodgers is worth it, how good Justin Fields can be with the Jets and what to expect from Ben Johnson in Year 1 as Bears head coach.

On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes former Steelers linebacker and podcaster Arthur Moats to analyze the team's QB situation as OTAs get underway this week. How big of a deal is it that Aaron Rodgers still hasn't signed as of Tuesday morning? Why didn't coach Mike Tomlin, former GM Kevin Colbert and current GM Omar Khan have a better succession plan for Ben Roethlisberger to avoid this situation? And what went wrong with Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson that prevented them or someone else from becoming the long-term answer at the position? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Is Kenny Pickett going to start for the Browns? Will he get boo'd by fans at Acrisure Stadium when the Browns play here in Week 6? We asked why people hate playing the win/loss game when the schedule comes out. Somehow, Ben Roethlisberger thinks Kenny will get cheered if he plays against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. We think that is ludicrous.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark told us about his days on the Pirates beat. Instead of telling us if a guy was a bad guy, he just called them ‘interesting.' Mark said there is “no way” Aaron Rodgers was coming out of a Strip District hotel this morning. Mark took a guess at when Rodgers is here. Mark chatted with Mason Rudolph earlier this week, but Mason couldn't say for sure when Rodgers is showing up – they are all just assuming. We also spent some time talking about the Harry Callas political run that fell just shy of a chair seat in Green Tree. More w/ Mark – Mark reacted to Booger McFarland claiming the Steelers are ‘taking years' off the life of their defense. Mark does not think the veterans are upset with Mason Rudolph or will be upset with him if he ends up being the QB. He said the team should be upset at the succession plan since Ben Roethlisberger retired. Mark said we haven't seen Mason work with Arthur Smith or his offense – and added that Aaron Rodgers would want a lot of control. Would Smith have preferred Justin Fields at QB? Mark isn't worried about Cam Heyward or TJ Watt sitting out any practices. More w/ Mark – Poni asked Mark why he was looking up Donny's highlights earlier this week. Does Mark buy into any of the conspiracy theories that Joe Rogan may have talked to Aaron Rodgers about? Did Mark have any other tea on George Pickens following his departure?

We asked why people hate playing the win/loss game when the schedule comes out. Somehow, Ben Roethlisberger thinks Kenny will get cheered if he plays against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. We think that is ludicrous. Calls on Paul Skenes, Kenny Pickett and Aaron Rodgers. Donny Football Debrief – Boise State's AD took offense to the change with the College Football Playoff.
Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and his ability to mentor the team's next quarterback. The Steelers have a plan to trade up to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, finally addressing the position after several missteps in the aftermath of the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. But is Smith the right guy for the job to develop a rookie quarterback? It's not anything he's ever done before in his two seasons as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator and three as Atlanta Falcons head coach, but there are some reasons to think that Smith will be capable of molding a talented passer, especially his success in resurrecting the careers of Ryan Tannehill and Justin Fields. So can Smith be the Steelers' quarterback whisperer? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray reacted to Aaron Rodgers making us wait ‘a little bit longer.' The guys asked Ray about how the Steelers will put up with Rodgers being part of a major interview every single week, but he doesn't think it'll be much more than what Ben Roethlisberger did on The Fan. Is it a sign of desperation to clamor after Rodgers? Poni asked if Will Howard was overhyped. Ray thinks WR is a ‘dead issue' until Rodgers signs. Will that receiver be a buddy of Rodgers? Ray explained why he thinks the Steelers voted against the Tush Push. Ray said they should teach Darnell Washington how to take a snap to execute the play.
Ron Cook had a great relationship with Ben Roethisberger and sparked one of the best recurring interviews in Pittsburgh sports media history. Ben thinks the Steelers are an 11-6 team with Aaron Rodgers, but 7-10 without him. Ben thinks the NFL is lying and the league knows Rodgers is signing with the Steelers.
How much of a difference in win total will there be if Aaron Rodgers starts every game versus Mason Rudolph starting every game? Ben Roethlisberger thinks the team can win 11 games with Rodgers, but 7 games, at the most, with Rudolph. The guys don't get why Ben still punches down at Mason. What do we think are the real expectations with both guys at QB?

What do we think are the real expectations with both guys at QB? The Pirates won the series against the Reds, but they scored just 5 runs in the 3 games. The hitters continue to be inept. The pitching was spectacular and it has been for most of the season. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Is it true that Aaron Rodgers could show up in the preseason and the Steelers would live with that? Mike told a story of Brett Favre showing up late and winning over the team on the very first day. Mike still thinks the Steelers are better with Rodgers than they are without him and explained what the DK Metcalf move means coming from their front office. What is the future like for Mason Rudolph? Mike doesn't rule out Will Howard benefiting greatly from Rodgers being his starting QB. The guys asked Mike why the Steelers were among the teams voting to ban the Tush Push earlier today. Mike talked about the movement for flag football in the Olympics and what it could look like.
ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – The conversation started about the college days. Aditi reacted to the Aaron Rodgers appearance with Joe Rogan. Aditi does not feel strongly either way that Rodgers will sign with the Steelers before mandatory minicamp. Would there be a breaking point when the Steelers decide to move forward in a different direction at QB? The guys asked for some tea on the Ben Roethlisberger punch down at Mason Rudolph in his latest podcast episode. Aditi doubled down that the Jets' issues last year were not surrounding the QB.
Aaron Rodgers hopped on the Joe Rogan podcast and even though they didn't talk much football, they did talk about cancer, and how it is impacting Rodgers' life at the moment. Poni brought up the chat he had with Rodgers' biographer last week, who doesn't think what is happening in his life will ultimately impact if he plays for the Steelers. It is known that Rodgers isn't very close with his family, so it could be a close friend going through an illness. The guys wondered if a contract could be signed and Rodgers could just show up later, but are the optics of that too weird? ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – The conversation started about the college days. May 7, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 131 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers trading WR George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. We go over the trade details to start with. Alex and I discuss the Pickens' exit via a trade from several different angles during this show. We talk about why they possibly didn't trade him before or during the draft. We also discuss the team not drafting a wide receiver this year and go over those available players at that position that were still on the board at the conclusion of the second round. Could any of these players offered significant contributions to the Steelers in 2025 as rookies? We discuss that question. Will the Steelers look to add another experienced wide receiver now that Pickens has been traded? We attempt to answer that question and even build a compact list of wide receivers the Steelers might could trade for or sign as free agents. We make sure to question the Steelers plan at wide receiver at this point and especially on the heels of what transpired in 2024 at that position. Does the trading of Pickens at all impact the decision that veteran QB Aaron Rodgers has yet to make when it comes to him possibly signing with the Steelers? We address that question as well. After thoroughly looking at the Pickens' situation and impact of the trade from all angles, Alex and I move on to briefly discuss former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger having QB Will Howard and OLB Jack Sawyer, two members of this year's draft class, on the latest episode of his podcast. This 85-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap as well.
