There is a lot of risk for the Steelers taking Aaron Rodgers as QB1. The idea of a one-helmet guy goes out the window when the Steelers don't think you can play anymore. Joe thinks the Steelers pushed out Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, and Ben Roethlisberger out before they wanted to retire and were willing to leave open the possibility the first two would go elsewhere. Would T.J. Watt be ok not being a one-helmet guy?
Who was better - Ben Roethlisberger in his final year or Aaron Rodgers right now?
Paul Skenes talked about what it was like meeting Ben Roethlisberger and Sidney Crosby at the Pat McAfee Show in Pittsburgh. Skenes discussed the importance of volunteer firefighters and how he views them through the lens of being in the Air Force. Fans weigh in on Aaron Rodgers.

June 4, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 142 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the release of the Pittsburgh Steelers official 2025 training camp schedule. We go over key dates in training camp and much more. Steelers TE Donald Parham Jr. reportedly sustained an Achilles' injury on Tuesday, so we discuss what that means for him and the team. We also discuss the Steelers now seemingly being back in play to trade for Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith as of Tuesday evening. We go over our thoughts on whether Smith is worth trading for, what the compensation should be and if he should have his contract increased and extended into at least 2026. The Steelers are reportedly bringing in former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis in for a visit this week, so Alex and I discuss that news some. We talk about whether Davis would fit in with the offense, what his role would be, and if both of us would be for the team signing him. Alex and I then discuss how much better, if any, the Steelers would be if they were to add both Smith and Davis this offseason on the heels of the team trading away WR George Pickens several weeks ago. With the second week of OTA practices now underway as of Tuesday, Alex and I discuss several things related to that topic. We go over TE Darnell Washington reportedly dropping some weight, ILB Cole Holcomb reportedly being back fully healthy and much more. We go over who was not present for the Tuesday OTA practice as well. Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger attempted to clear the air some regarding his current and past relationship with QB Mason Rudolph during his latest podcast episode, so Alex and I go over what he had to say on that topic. We also do a small exercise related to what pick the Steelers could have made instead of Rudolph during the 2018 NFL Draft that might have appeased Roethlisberger at the time. This 87-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap. We end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Joe and Pomp go through a 12-pack, including Big Ben's comments on Mason Rudolph and we think the QB took another shot at Chris Mueller.
Ben Roethlisberger is trying to change the narrative on how he felt about Mason Rudolph when he was drafted in 2018. The guys went back in time a little bit to remember how it was when Rudolph first got here. Ben has a good relationship with several other backup QBs from his time, but Mason was not one of them. How is Mason looking in OTAs so far? A few insiders say he has been really showing signs of a starting QB.

Aditi brought up a story from one of her days on the sideline with CBS when Davis got upset on the sideline, but was happy to answer questions after the game. Aditi said she's more excited about Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin than she is about Davis or another middling veteran receiver. Is the Jonnu Smith stuff mostly a play of the agent so the tight end can get a new deal or could he really end up with the Steelers? Some good media chatter as well. Donny Football Debrief – Derrick Henry is an Adam Sandler fan. Who isn't?
Former 9-year NFL offensive tackle joined Bill to discuss the pressure Dan Campbell is facing in 2025, Mike Tomlin's inability to find a quarterback post-Ben Roethlisberger, why he's very down on Caleb Williams and if the Bengals will be able to return to Super Bowl contender status this season.
Longtime NFL reporter Ty Dunne joined Bill to discuss why Mike Tomlin has struggled so much in trying to find a franchise quarterback post Ben Roethlisberger, if Aaron Rodgers is worth it, how good Justin Fields can be with the Jets and what to expect from Ben Johnson in Year 1 as Bears head coach.

On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes former Steelers linebacker and podcaster Arthur Moats to analyze the team's QB situation as OTAs get underway this week. How big of a deal is it that Aaron Rodgers still hasn't signed as of Tuesday morning? Why didn't coach Mike Tomlin, former GM Kevin Colbert and current GM Omar Khan have a better succession plan for Ben Roethlisberger to avoid this situation? And what went wrong with Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson that prevented them or someone else from becoming the long-term answer at the position? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark told us about his days on the Pirates beat. Instead of telling us if a guy was a bad guy, he just called them ‘interesting.' Mark said there is “no way” Aaron Rodgers was coming out of a Strip District hotel this morning. Mark took a guess at when Rodgers is here. Mark chatted with Mason Rudolph earlier this week, but Mason couldn't say for sure when Rodgers is showing up – they are all just assuming. We also spent some time talking about the Harry Callas political run that fell just shy of a chair seat in Green Tree. More w/ Mark – Mark reacted to Booger McFarland claiming the Steelers are ‘taking years' off the life of their defense. Mark does not think the veterans are upset with Mason Rudolph or will be upset with him if he ends up being the QB. He said the team should be upset at the succession plan since Ben Roethlisberger retired. Mark said we haven't seen Mason work with Arthur Smith or his offense – and added that Aaron Rodgers would want a lot of control. Would Smith have preferred Justin Fields at QB? Mark isn't worried about Cam Heyward or TJ Watt sitting out any practices. More w/ Mark – Poni asked Mark why he was looking up Donny's highlights earlier this week. Does Mark buy into any of the conspiracy theories that Joe Rogan may have talked to Aaron Rodgers about? Did Mark have any other tea on George Pickens following his departure?
Is Kenny Pickett going to start for the Browns? Will he get boo'd by fans at Acrisure Stadium when the Browns play here in Week 6? We asked why people hate playing the win/loss game when the schedule comes out. Somehow, Ben Roethlisberger thinks Kenny will get cheered if he plays against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. We think that is ludicrous.

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and his ability to mentor the team's next quarterback. The Steelers have a plan to trade up to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, finally addressing the position after several missteps in the aftermath of the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. But is Smith the right guy for the job to develop a rookie quarterback? It's not anything he's ever done before in his two seasons as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator and three as Atlanta Falcons head coach, but there are some reasons to think that Smith will be capable of molding a talented passer, especially his success in resurrecting the careers of Ryan Tannehill and Justin Fields. So can Smith be the Steelers' quarterback whisperer? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray reacted to Aaron Rodgers making us wait ‘a little bit longer.' The guys asked Ray about how the Steelers will put up with Rodgers being part of a major interview every single week, but he doesn't think it'll be much more than what Ben Roethlisberger did on The Fan. Is it a sign of desperation to clamor after Rodgers? Poni asked if Will Howard was overhyped. Ray thinks WR is a ‘dead issue' until Rodgers signs. Will that receiver be a buddy of Rodgers? Ray explained why he thinks the Steelers voted against the Tush Push. Ray said they should teach Darnell Washington how to take a snap to execute the play.
Ron Cook had a great relationship with Ben Roethisberger and sparked one of the best recurring interviews in Pittsburgh sports media history. Ben thinks the Steelers are an 11-6 team with Aaron Rodgers, but 7-10 without him. Ben thinks the NFL is lying and the league knows Rodgers is signing with the Steelers.
How much of a difference in win total will there be if Aaron Rodgers starts every game versus Mason Rudolph starting every game? Ben Roethlisberger thinks the team can win 11 games with Rodgers, but 7 games, at the most, with Rudolph. The guys don't get why Ben still punches down at Mason. What do we think are the real expectations with both guys at QB?

What do we think are the real expectations with both guys at QB? The Pirates won the series against the Reds, but they scored just 5 runs in the 3 games. The hitters continue to be inept. The pitching was spectacular and it has been for most of the season. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Is it true that Aaron Rodgers could show up in the preseason and the Steelers would live with that? Mike told a story of Brett Favre showing up late and winning over the team on the very first day. Mike still thinks the Steelers are better with Rodgers than they are without him and explained what the DK Metcalf move means coming from their front office. What is the future like for Mason Rudolph? Mike doesn't rule out Will Howard benefiting greatly from Rodgers being his starting QB. The guys asked Mike why the Steelers were among the teams voting to ban the Tush Push earlier today. Mike talked about the movement for flag football in the Olympics and what it could look like.
ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – The conversation started about the college days. Aditi reacted to the Aaron Rodgers appearance with Joe Rogan. Aditi does not feel strongly either way that Rodgers will sign with the Steelers before mandatory minicamp. Would there be a breaking point when the Steelers decide to move forward in a different direction at QB? The guys asked for some tea on the Ben Roethlisberger punch down at Mason Rudolph in his latest podcast episode. Aditi doubled down that the Jets' issues last year were not surrounding the QB.
Aaron Rodgers hopped on the Joe Rogan podcast and even though they didn't talk much football, they did talk about cancer, and how it is impacting Rodgers' life at the moment. Poni brought up the chat he had with Rodgers' biographer last week, who doesn't think what is happening in his life will ultimately impact if he plays for the Steelers. It is known that Rodgers isn't very close with his family, so it could be a close friend going through an illness. The guys wondered if a contract could be signed and Rodgers could just show up later, but are the optics of that too weird? ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – The conversation started about the college days. Looking at the Steelers opponents, if they are better, the same, or worse. Ben Roethlisberger thinks George Pickens might have been too big of a headache. Ben believes Jack Sawyer could become a captain for the Steelers.
Looking at the Steelers opponents, if they are better, the same, or worse. Ben Roethlisberger thinks George Pickens might have been too big of a headache. Ben believes Jack Sawyer could become a captain for the Steelers. Ben thinks the Steelers are much more attractive with Aaron Rodgers and the NFL schedule with Rodgers is better.
En esta primera edición de preguntas y respuestas de este offseason, hablamos de la caída de Shedeur Sanders en el Draft, el lugar histórico de Ben Roethlisberger y mucho más.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. Has the hype for Steelers sixth-round pick Will Howard gotten a bit out of control? How valid are the comparisons between his game and that of Ben Roethlisberger? And what are proper expectations for him in a quarterback room with Mason Rudolph and — possibly — Aaron Rodgers? Paul tackles those questions and more. What should we make of the Steelers' Week 4 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, now announced as their Ireland game? Is Don Kelly making a difference as manager for the Pirates or is his impact overstated? And what should Penguins fans be learning from the NHL playoffs?

Happy Thursday! Will Howard and Jack Sawyer appeared on Ben Roethlisberger's podcast shortly after arriving in Pittsburgh, and the two shared some thoughts that "traditional" Buckeye fans wouldn't necessarily agree with. Stephen A. Smith thinks Darius Garland is making business decisions, and Brian Windhorst shoots him down. Matt Finkes joins the show to respond to Howard and Sawyer. Mike Florio and Adam Schefter don't appear to be on the same page regarding the Aaron Rodgers timeline. Bobby Carpenter calls into the show to offer some clarity on why it would benefit Rodgers to sit out for at least one more week. Will Howard named specific schools who were also in the mix for his recruitment in the transfer portal. What does this Dallas offense look like with George Pickens in it? May 7, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 131 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers trading WR George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. We go over the trade details to start with. Alex and I discuss the Pickens' exit via a trade from several different angles during this show. We talk about why they possibly didn't trade him before or during the draft. We also discuss the team not drafting a wide receiver this year and go over those available players at that position that were still on the board at the conclusion of the second round. Could any of these players offered significant contributions to the Steelers in 2025 as rookies? We discuss that question. Will the Steelers look to add another experienced wide receiver now that Pickens has been traded? We attempt to answer that question and even build a compact list of wide receivers the Steelers might could trade for or sign as free agents. We make sure to question the Steelers plan at wide receiver at this point and especially on the heels of what transpired in 2024 at that position. Does the trading of Pickens at all impact the decision that veteran QB Aaron Rodgers has yet to make when it comes to him possibly signing with the Steelers? We address that question as well. After thoroughly looking at the Pickens' situation and impact of the trade from all angles, Alex and I move on to briefly discuss former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger having QB Will Howard and OLB Jack Sawyer, two members of this year's draft class, on the latest episode of his podcast. This 85-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap as well. We end this show by answering several emails we received from listeners of the show. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Jon Gruden sounds like the world's biggest Will Howard fan. Did the Steelers get a steal with the Ohio State QB? Will there be a reason for some local fans to root for him to fail? Poni had a staggering stat regarding 6th round QBs – only one of which have a winning record since the drafting of Tom Brady, and it's Drew Henson at 1-0. What went wrong for Howard in the Michigan game? What will the career look like for Will Howard? What would be a good/bad one? One caller said Howard will be better than Ben Roethlisberger. Former Ohio State LB Bobby Carpenter joined the show. The guys started by telling Cam Heyward Happy Birthday, who Bobby almost crossed paths with at Ohio State. Bobby didn't love the group of QBs in this draft and doesn't think Will Howard should have been the top one taken, but he pointed out some things he really likes about his game. Bobby said the confidence and command are the two things that will translate well from college to the NFL. Bobby said Howard doesn't have the strongest arm in the world, but he shared a few guys he played with in the league that were successful without having it. Bobby talked about the importance of a guy winning over the locker room. Poni wanted to ask a few questions about Jack Sawyer. Bobby said Sawyer is a jack-of-all-trades type player on defense. Bobby thinks the Steelers got two great value picks on the third day of the draft. Bobby told a few stories about Terrelle Pryor, who was around his time at Ohio State, after we had the recent discussion regarding all-time high school athletes.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. Is former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underrated compared to names like Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and others as former Baltimore Ravens rival Terrell Suggs suggested on a podcast recently? Or does he get his just due around the league? Paul offers thoughts on that topic, plus the continuing fallout from the NFL draft and general manager Omar Khan's selection of names like Derrick Harmon, Kaleb Johnson, Jack Sawyer and Will Howard. Then later, Paul reacts to the Pirates' weekend sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres and ponders the future of manager Derek Shelton. Should he be coaching for his job over the next couple of weeks? Will Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen and the offense ever catch up to Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and the pitching? And is there any hope left for this season with the team already more than 10 games under the .500 mark?

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the Steelers will be willing to sign a second wide receiver to a long-term contract extension after already agreeing to a deal with DK Metcalf, and what a new contract with George Pickens might look like. The Steelers have not signed multiple wide receivers to big-time contracts in their recent past, but that also came while the team was paying big money to Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback. The doesn't mean they won't pay two receivers while they're not paying a big-time quarterback. Part of the money that quarterback is earning is the assumption that he won't need high-priced receivers to succeed. Will the Steelers want to extend Pickens? It doesn't seem that they're charging into the offseason with that as the plan. After around $300,000 in fines over the last two seasons, the Steelers would probably like to see an increased level of maturity from Pickens before committing to a long-term deal. If they do decide to sign Pickens, how much will he cost? Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Ben Roethlisberger said there is no pressure on Will Howard, but he should have the mentality that he can be the man. Ben referenced a few backup QBs during his days. ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – The discussion was around Bill Belichick and his 20-something girlfriend, where everything just seems extremely bizarre. We then reflected on the NFL Draft that saw the Shedeur Sanders slide all the way to the 5th round. Aditi talked about the lead up to the draft and how Sanders handled things, which impacted his stock. Aditi was stunned by how far Sanders dropped. The guys asked Aditi how she would handicap the Browns QB situation. Aditi brought up the trade that had the Browns moving off a ‘generational player' in Travis Hunter, but the capital they received may have been too rich. Aditi called out the Browns for taking 2 QBs in this draft. She credited the Steelers for enacting a plan while also drafting a developmental QB. On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo ponder the importance of the 2025 NFL draft to the franchise's long-term future. Why is it essential for GM Omar Khan, assistant GM Andy Weidl and coach Mike Tomlin to properly balance short-term needs with the potential to add long-term staples? How does that balance fit into the conversations around names including DLs Derrick Harmon, Kenneth Grant and Walter Nolen; QBs Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart; RBs Omarion Hampton and Dylan Sampson; and defensive backs like Jahdae Barron? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks QBs. How did the franchise get here? With only Mason Rudolph as their only viable option under contract? Should they have taken more NFL draft chances on QBs following Ben Roethlisberger's retirement? Or even before it? Or were they correct to take the chances they did with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson last season. Or potentially Aaron Rodgers in 2025? Then in the third segment, the guys ponder lessons from former GM Kevin Colbert's early successes and his late failures that contributed to the current state of today's roster.
Ben Maller talks about Lamar Jackson filing opposition to Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s registration of "#8" trademark, Ben Roethlisberger saying that he thinks Aaron Rodgers is holding out for Minnesota, Maller to the Third Degree, and much more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
