Live around 5 p.m., Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise ponders the Steelers' recent past at the quarterback position. Would GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin have been better off drafting current Patriots QB Drake Maye -- their opponent in NFL Week 3 -- or another young QB like Bryce Young, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix, or C.J. Stroud? Even if it had meant losing seasons following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger at the end of 2021? And how much better would it be for their long-term future if 2025 turns out to be a rough season with 41-yard-old Aaron Rodgers ahead of a promising QB class the could include names like Arch Manning, Drew Allar, Cade Klubnik, Garrett Nussmeier and LaNorris Sellers? Paul tackles those questions and the latest news from practice this week, which could include the return of first-round NFL draft pick Derrick Harmon from injury to bolster Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Yahya Black and the struggling defensive line. Football Americans! We've so much to get to this episode: Lamar v Allen! The long kicks! Jalen Carter's spit! The sad, sad Dolphins. And we've got the right father and son duo to tell you all about it with Greg and Chris Cote from the Dan LeBatard show. Plus, we've bring in Geoff Schwartz to explain why he fell asleep and missed what could be the best game of the season. The Super Fuentes Brothers provide knee jerk reactions to Week One from Miami, and Newsman Bradley presents Aaron Rodgers unfiltered from New York. Hyperbolic, sure. Satisfying? Of course. Football is back, America, and here to cover it is Football America! **That said. Before you hit play we gotta protect our guy, Pittsburgh Hero Ryan Clark. A lot of people out there chose to get up on Mount Pious about Clark saying Tom Brady and Drew Brees weren't generational talents. They aren't. Neither guy was a measurable physical freak. Y'see the NFL's got two basic types of QBs. 1. Specimens like Josh Allen, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, even Jeff George. These guys can evolve into gunslingers like John Elway, Brett Favre and Ben Roethlisberger and take you to the top of Mount Lombardi. 2. Assassins like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Joe Montana. They've been marginalized with the name ‘game manager' but they're calculated and lethally accurate. Big game trophy hunters. That's why I call 'em ASSASSINS. In superhero terms, it's like Superman v Batman. You'd of course like the measurables of the son of Jor-el over Bruce Wayne, but that doesn't mean Batman can't win thanks to being more clever. So, descend Mount Pious and just admit Brady and Brees are the Keaton and Bale Batmans (batmen?) of the NFL. And be good with it. As for serial killers, well... Mike Tomlin can go ahead explain that one. We're stumped. Now, start the show! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

August 1, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 4 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers getting ready for their annual training camp night practice under the high school lights. We make a point to recap the health of the Steelers ahead of their Friday Night Lights practice and how a roster move or two are likely to happen at some point today because of recent injuries the team has sustained to their defensive line. Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin was in the news on Thursday night as he has reportedly requested to be traded. Alex and I look at the likelihood, plausibility, and probability related to Steelers trading for McLaurin. While neither of us think the Steelers will trade for McLaurin, we both think the Steelers should at least inquire about him. We discuss how cash spending would likely be the biggest obstacle when it comes to the Steelers possibly trading for McLaurin. Alex and I then move on to discuss several recent comments made by Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers since our last episode. We go over what Rodgers said about how Steelers HC Mike Tomlin courted him this offseason and what he thinks about C Zach Frazier, who enters his second NFL season. We go over a few interesting stats related to Rodgers and those compare to other NFL quarterbacks such as Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger throughout their careers. Alex goes over his impressions of Steelers training camp as it nears the halfway point. I reveal the one word on my mind when it comes to the 2025 Steelers at this point of the offseason. I have Alex quickly recap his evaluations of five overlooked players at this point of training camp. This 94-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few listener questions at the very end. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Mark says it is very unlikely that the Steelers would trade for Terry Mclaurin. Apparently, the Steelers have the second best odds to trade for Micah Parsons. More w/ Mark – The consensus is that Rodgers had his best practice as a Steeler yesterday. Kaboly says that he was getting his best protection yet yesterday. He also says that the offense was terrible on Wednesday and was probably motivated to bounce back. Broderick Jones is currently hurt and has not been on the field. Mark finds it hard to believe that Broderick will get benched this season because the options behind him are not good. Fans were excited whenever Aaron Rodgers completed a pass over the middle of the field. Kaboly says that Payton Wilson has taken it to the next level in training camp so far. He also expects a positional battle between Juan Thornhill and Chuck Clark. More w/ Mark – Mark says that Will Howard looks better than what a 6th round QB should look like in his first camp. He says the Steelers think they got a steal, but not a ridiculous one. Mason Rudolph knows that he's not the starter, but he knows that he has to be ready if needed and ready to win. July 28, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 2 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing the health of the Pittsburgh Steelers with four training camp practices now in the books for 2025. Alex and I discuss Steelers RB Cordarrelle Patterson still being on the roster through four training camp practices. (UPDATE: Patterson announced he was released by the Steelers right after the show wrapped up.) We discuss the Steelers adding veteran S Chuck Clark more in depth during this show and if that means the team will wind up keeping four safeties on their 53-man roster to start the 2025 regular season. The Steelers announced their 2025 Hall of Honor Class over the weekend, so Alex and I discuss this year's three new members, Joey Porter, Ben Roethlisberger, and Maurkice Pouncey. We also talk about Pouncey's chances of being voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at a later date. The Miami Dolphins have now revamped the contract of new S Minkah Fitzpatrick since the Steelers traded him, so Alex and I go over the details of what that looks like. With Steelers T Broderick Jones being banged up now in training camp, Alex and I discuss his status this summer and the same with fellow starting T Troy Fautanu. We discuss T Dylan Cook getting extra reps at left tackle with the first and second team offense on Sunday. Kyle Brandt had two great interviews with Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers and HC Mike Tomlin on the NFL Network over the weekend, so we recap those during this show. We focus a lot on what all Rodgers had to say to Brandt and specifically what his rebuttal to the recent criticism he received from Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw of Fox Sports. We go over what Tomlin had to say about his long non-losing season streak. Later in this show, Alex and I look ahead to things we will be looking for once the Steelers resume training camp practices on Tuesday and how the team will begin donning pads this week. Alex and I then attempt to quickly recap a few notable things that a few other various Steelers players had to say since our last show. This 85-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap, and we make sure to answer a few listener questions at the very end. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. ESPN ranked all 32 NFL rosters, ranking the Steelers at 19. Mullsy doesn't have an issue with this ranking. PFF ranking Myles Garrett as the best player in football was dumb. The AFC is stronger than the NFC, which is another issue for the Steelers. The Steelers have fumbled the quarterback position ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired. Mullsy says that TJ Watt and Cam Heyward should be Hall of Fame locks. This roster would be ranked higher than 19 if QB wasn't weighted so heavily. Mullsy mentions that almost every starting QB in the NFL was a first round pick out of college. Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg was very happy for Dan Zangrilli after he called the weekend series against the White Sox, and said that he didn't need any advice. Brown also said that Skenes performance last night looked like the “definition of a stopper”. Greg says that the Pirates aren't going to rebuild, and that they're going to try to win next year. He also says that he doesn't think that Ben Cherington will make moves to try and save his job.
