In the 1980s, Brian Belknap landed in San Francisco after traveling around the Northeast. His first stop was Fisherman's Wharf, which wasn't as "Disneyfied" back in those days. Brian's hustle was playing music for tourists, then packing up and finding a place to sleep. Often, his bed was also on the street. In this podcast, Brian will share stories about his early days in San Francisco. He'll talk about those days in the wharf, some characters he met along the way, and he'll play a song that, for him, captures those days. After a few stints in other towns, he came back to San Francisco in the '90s. He'll talk about his return and play another song from that era of his life. Brian is having a record-release party at Brick and Mortar on May 11 with Sallie Ford and Mike Coykendal. Check his website for more details, and please, support local artists and musicians. Hoy en Future Beats Quentin Gas y Los Zíngaros nos presentan su álbum Caravana (Candy Rockets, 2017), flamenco psicodélico y expansivo de alto voltaje.Este proyecto empezó siendo folk, pero a medida que iba grabando el disco anterior me di cuenta de cual iba a ser el camino. Este álbum es más complejo que el primero, narra el viaje histórico y musical de los gitanos desde el Punyab hasta aquí. Hay paradas geográficas con sonidos autóctonos de cada lugar. Ha sido un esfuerzo especialmente en la producción. Yo cuando era joven veía el flamenco como algo muy solemne, pero lo he ido descubriendo porque lo llevas en las sangre. Mi padre me dijo que el flamenco “te viene”, de repente. Empecé a experimentar y como siempre me ha gustado la psicodelia, desde Os Mutantes a Pink Floyd, me resultó muy natural encontrar este sonido.Además hoy nos adentramos en los nuevos trabajos de Father John Misty, una de las grandes referencias del año con guiños al mejor Elton John de los 70, Rhiannon Giddens, Sallie Ford, los franceses Octave Noire y Cyrius, y el regreso de The Feelies.

I can't believe I've never recorded a Lovecast before, but honestly, I looked back through the old titles and it didn't come up. So here we go, the counterpoint to last week's Hatecast is this. I am full of the joys of life, relaxed and happy. Would you believe it? Actually, the reason this podcast exists is not because I feel some need to eradicate the rage of last week. I like to live by the words of Clem Snide: "don't be afraid of your anger". I am not afraid of my anger. I actually love my anger. My anger, inner rage, permanent sense of simmering resentment - whatever you want to call it - is what makes me who I am, what drives me on, and what makes me enjoy what I do. Fuck it, you can deal with my anger. Instead, this podcast simply exists because last week's ragefest has genuinely lifted the black cloud which it represented clean away from my life. And then everything takes a turn... With Jenny out of town this weekend having some family fun, the two of us pre-recorded two segments to create one bad ass show. The first half was recorded at Mt. Tabor Brewing with owner/brewmaster Eric Surface, right in the brewery. With that comes an array of background noises and a lot of echo, so stick with us as there's some interesting interesting information about the craft brewing world. The second half of our show introduces new friend of the show David Daniel of CNN. The three of us talk Hollywood and some Oscar predictions. Sure, there was a poo cruise ship, meteors attacking Russia, and an Asteroid that almost took out Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck, but we just couldn't get to it.
