Why is it that saying "Jesus" too many times turns people off? In this episode, Eric Scovill shares his journey and passion for service with Erik Cabral. Tune in to find out how we can get past this issue and grow in our faith! Eric also shares his insights into prioritizing relationship with God, giving back through stewardship, and more. Eric Scovill is a financial planner with top-tier alternative investments from hedge funds and real estate, to royalties and world-changing venture capitalist opportunities. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Eric's turning point and transition into financial investing Staying mentally healthy as a provider Leaning into failure and faith Understanding Stewardship: The Key to Financial Success and Philanthropy Is the modern-day church fulfilling its purpose? The analogy between coincidence and the tree Embracing your journey with God Episode Highlights: [27:08] Understanding Stewardship: The Key to Financial Success and Philanthropy Many individuals overlook the importance of comprehending their finances and instead solely focus on earning money. Recognizing this issue, Eric set out to assist those who require guidance in this area. By helping people with their finances, he hopes to inspire them to embrace philanthropy and stewardship. Understanding that we are merely stewards of God's assets rather than owners is crucial. Giving back to God rather than keeping everything for ourselves is a paradigm shift that can have a significant impact on people. [29:26] The Importance of Prioritizing Relationship with God Over Service God desires more than just our service, as a perfect parent He yearns for a deep relationship with us. Prioritizing this relationship should come before any other pursuits. If that means allowing God to break us of financial struggles or emotional wounds, then so be it. This realization has shifted my focus towards strengthening my vertical relationship with Him first, so that I may use the blessings He gives me to make an impact in the world. [38:07] Is the Modern-Day Church Fulfilling Its Purpose? The modern-day church has veered away from its intended purpose, as depicted in the New Testament and Acts of the Apostles. The present-day church lacks the characteristics and qualities that it was meant to embody. Consequently, individuals who are not deeply rooted in their faith may be pushed away by this deviation from the true essence of the church. [52:38] Embracing Your Journey with God In our spiritual journey, it's important not to rush through the process. Each lesson and experience, whether as a father or a husband, should be embraced rather than wished away. It is the journey that brings us closer to God, not just the destination. God doesn't require us to save the world or bring love and money to different organizations because He's already taking care of that. What He wants is for us to join Him in this beautiful journey of faith. Resources Mentioned: Elysium Therapeutics Entrepreneurs Circle podcast is an On Air Brands production. Hospitality Leaders - Interviews with hotel, event, and food service experts
On this episode of the Hospitality Leaders podcast, I'm joined by Matt Scovill, Executive Chef at Bacchanal Buffet in Las Vegas. Matt has a clear love for the art of craft food and for providing a high-quality culinary experience for his guests. He tries to impart that same passion to his team and create complete buy-in for the company vision. He does this by encouraging creativity and giving his staff constant opportunities to see the impact of their work. The structure of Matt's kitchen puts his fellow chefs right in front of his restaurant's patrons so that everyone gets some facetime with the guests they serve. Hearing praise directly from a guest is a powerful motivator, and it's an outstanding way to build unity and keep morale high. That praise means much more when chefs are allowed to take ownership of their work and to be involved in the making of the menu. Matt encourages his team to experiment in the kitchen; coming up with new ideas that help create future menus. It keeps his team invested in providing consistent quality work, day after day. While most kitchens are plagued by employee burnout, Matt's team comes to work every day energized by the environment he has created. We took our mics to a basement laboratory on East 30 Street, in Manhattan, where legend tells of a scientist and his cohort who perform ungodly experiments, attempting to bring life to subjects long considered dead. What we found rattled the nerves of even our steely host Allan Weitz, and brought us to a new consideration of what can be done when modern Prometheans fuse technologies from diverse eras to create extraordinary tools for their photographic purposes. On this week’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast, we speak with Geoffrey Berliner, Executive Director of the Penumbra Foundation, and Frank Rubio, the Camera Doctor, about the many “frankencameras” they have created together. In fact, they displayed six examples of their work for us. We talk about each one, most being antique view cameras modified with brass portrait lenses, modern flash systems, or for digital capture. We explain the provenance of the cameras and lenses, the process of “repurposing” them, and the practical applications for these modifications. Each of these cameras is put into regular use at Penumbra, primarily in their tintype studio, and we discuss Scovill, Graflex, and stereo carte de visite cameras; Cooke, Fox, and Hermagis lenses, and even Sony a7 cameras and Canon Selphy printers. For images of the cameras and lenses, go to our landing page. We also speak with Berliner about his impressive lens collection, with Rubio about learning camera repair in the Army, and about their motivations and collaboration. Rubio, having worked in some of the best camera houses in New York, has established a reputation as a skilled and meticulous craftsman, trusted by artists, pros, and collectors alike, and Berliner is a walking encyclopedia of camera and photography history. Join us for this insightful conversation, which leaves only one question unanswered—which of the two is the true Dr. Frankencamera? Guests: Frank Rubio and Geoffrey Berliner Host: Allan Weitz Senior Creative Producer: John Harris Producer: Jason Tables
If I get the chance, I love to interview more than one person from the same touring crew as it gives a great perspective on the whole touring experience, and this week’s guest helps me round out a particular story of a special bunch of people. Fresh on the heels of graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in San Francisco, Carly Scovill found herself under the guidance of longtime stylist Linda Burcher at the start of rehearsals for the 40th anniversary tour of one of the world’s most beloved artists, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. As the daughter of Parnelli award-winning Sound Engineer Robert Scovill, Carly knew firsthand what endless possibilities for adventure, growth, and experience life on the road could offer, but she had no way of knowing just how poignant the next four months would be for her. Join Carly and I as she takes me through her first days of rehearsal, to the final shows at the Hollywood Bowl. Today’s episode is sponsored by Airturn.com.
Lori and Julia Say: Nell Scovell has worked behind the scenes of iconic tv shows including The Simpsons, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Murphy Brown & Letterman to name a few. This is a juicy inside look at “how pop culture” gets made. And the stories, even the painful ones, are funny as hell.

Known and well-respected by many of his peers, Robert has been mixing sound for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for an incredible 23 years. Have time for a short story? If so... A fan favorite character in the John Pilate Mysteries is Sheriff Morgan Scovill, and in Pilate's 7 it was a joy to bring him back in a sort of prequel to the first book in the series, Pilate's Cross. In the short story Badge, we get a look at the swirling elements surrounding Scovill before John Pilate steps foot into Cross Township. I hope my reading does the story--and Morgan Scovill--justice. Because he is all about justice...the Cross kind. If you enjoy this reading, you can pick up the ebook from all the usual suspects, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iBooks, and Smashwords. Thank you for listening. Be sure to visit the main webpage at www.PilatesCross.com and join our community on Facebook! Intro music Mary Celeste by Incompetech.
