Idea: An improv show format which is an absurdist parody of a rigid agenda-based speech of a Toastmaster public speaking course. The name "toady mustard" is based on a funny autocorrect re-spelling of the word "Toastmaster". Also: the rigid agenda would give the improv performers clear roles and make the longform show feel like a series of distinct shortform games and bits (each agenda topic would be a different bit/game); absurdist agenda items could include dance breaks, giving the audience foot rubs, calling out the jerk of the room, etc. Lisa Green (facebook.com/lisa.green.8 https://linktr.ee/depottowncomedy) Shelly Smith (facebook.com/shelly.smith.9210 Podcast: https://www.readsandweeds.com) Matthew Ryan (facebook.com/matthew.ryan.911) Mike Geeter (facebook.com/michaelgeeter1969 https://samroseent.com) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
A loose conversation and brainstorming session about pranks, many performed by EMTs in an ambulance, and an idea to turn an old ambulance into a prank/flashmob entry/getaway vehicle. Also: a prank involving stealing pizzas and/or spoiling them by putting pineapple on them; using "Oh Danny Boy" from the Chumbawumba song "Tubthumping" as the siren for the prankulance; a heist movie parody with five pranksters and the prankulance, involving stealing extra food from parties and (like Robin Hood) redistributing it to needy broke comedians, and also handing babies live chickens (as a distraction during the food theft, and also because Shelly thinks babies holding chickens are really cute) Lisa Green (facebook.com/lisa.green.8 https://linktr.ee/depottowncomedy) Shelly Smith (facebook.com/shelly.smith.9210 Podcast: https://www.readsandweeds.com) Matthew Ryan (facebook.com/matthew.ryan.911) Mike Geeter (facebook.com/michaelgeeter1969 https://samroseent.com) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Idea: An app that keeps track of all of your food orders from all apps and allows you to quickly search through them to find a meal to order again. Also: it shouldn't take 300 clicks and a memory puzzle to find a specific dish in food delivery app(s); the hilariousness of kids using apps to order crazy things like 1000 popsicles; combining the food history app with Spotify to recommend foods based on your mood; the creepiness of predictive/AI apps and privacy-violating apps, such as when social media apps figure out women are pregnant before they do; ranting about social media pet peeves Lisa Green (facebook.com/lisa.green.8 https://linktr.ee/depottowncomedy) Shelly Smith (facebook.com/shelly.smith.9210 Podcast: https://www.readsandweeds.com) Matthew Ryan (facebook.com/matthew.ryan.911) Mike Geeter (facebook.com/michaelgeeter1969 https://samroseent.com) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Idea: A comedic performance (either on stage or on TikTok) in an over-the-top costume representing one of the seven chakras which shows both love for and criticism of gurus and the culture of yoga, meditation, and "New Age"/"Eastern" religion/spirituality. Also: Shelly walking through the audience of a comedy club spreading sage and blessing hecklers while dressed as a "root chakra" in a brown root-like skirt with megaphones sticking out of her neck; brainstorming the performance style (Colbert Report-style embodiment of a crazy guru, speaking in deep lingo that the audience won't understand, comedic jumps between deep new-age spiritual concepts and broad topics i.e. "when I'm embodying my highest self I don't eat donuts"), the artistic ideal of focusing exclusively on your artistic vision and not worrying about or even finding out (in the case of social media) what the audience thinks; the risk of failing to live up to that artistic ideal and bombing painfully and becoming the crying girl in a flower costume in the Blind Melon "No Rain" music video Lisa Green (facebook.com/lisa.green.8 https://linktr.ee/depottowncomedy) Shelly Smith (facebook.com/shelly.smith.9210 Podcast: https://www.readsandweeds.com) Matthew Ryan (facebook.com/matthew.ryan.911) Mike Geeter (facebook.com/michaelgeeter1969 https://samroseent.com) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Idea: A sci-fi teleportation device built into showers (because "Dr. Who"-style phone booths don't really exist anymore, and therefore the shower is the most common pod-shaped location to use for teleportation). Also: keeping your shower cleaner because people will be teleporting in and out of it; using it to escape from bad dates; always teleporting to remote toilet facilities instead of having a toilet in your house; kids teleporting between bathrooms in their house to confuse their parents (like a chase scene in Scooby Doo); burning yourself with hot water in the shower and then accidentally pressing the teleport knob and getting teleported to a random house Lisa Green (facebook.com/lisa.green.8 https://linktr.ee/depottowncomedy) Shelly Smith (facebook.com/shelly.smith.9210 Podcast: https://www.readsandweeds.com) Matthew Ryan (facebook.com/matthew.ryan.911) Mike Geeter (facebook.com/michaelgeeter1969 https://samroseent.com) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Bombshells in the courtroom today as the judge in Alex Murdaugh's double murder trial rules that the state may present evidence of the now-disbarred South Carolina attorney's alleged financial crimes. The prosecution contends that the fact that these crimes were about to be revealed provided Murdaugh with a motive for murder. Also heard in court today was testimony surrounding the "blue tarp" found on the second floor of Alex Murdaugh's mother's home. That blue tarp, under testing, showed gun residue. According to Shelly Smith, a caregiver for Murdaugh's mother, Alex came by one week after the murders carrying a balled-up blue tarp. It appeared to have something inside it. This is the second part of a two part interview with Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña. You can read about, or listen to, the first part of this conversationhttps://thirdopinionmd.org/thinking-outside-the-healthcare-box-systems-theory-discussion-with-guest-dr-shelly-smith-acuna-part-1/ ( here). I highly recommend tuning in to part one first. For both parts of this interview, I've proposed that Dr. Smith-Acuña and I take a unique look at the health care system. We are blending her background in Psychology and Systems Theory with my own experience of the healthcare system as a doctor. We set the scene for this discussion by having all of the “family members'' of the healthcare family attend an intensive psychotherapeutic session together. We are sending all the players of healthcare to get therapy because, let's face it, healthcare systems are really dysfunctional. In this episode, Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña and I discuss: Structure as the fifth principle, and the hierarchy that comes into play within the healthcare system. Structure encompasses sharing power and sharing responsibility, along with good communication. How definition and clarity around the structure of a system gives everyone working within it a better sense of how to interact and work. History and development is the sixth principle of Systems Theory. This involves understanding both the history of the doctor's profession, or health history of an individual patient. Events such as trauma are not always considered when approaching care, and they have an impact on outcomes. The role of transference and countertransference: unconsciously patients and doctors experience and react to one another based on their past personal experiences and what they encountered in their families of origin. Social and cultural narratives is the seventh principle of Systems Theory. Each of us has encountered both social and cultural experiences that inform who we are now, and how we understand any given situation. These narratives also impact language shaping experience and form dominant narratives. One example of this is a dominant narrative around passive-aggressive care. Within a healthcare system, the patient is often expected to be a passive recipient of care, with doctors using aggressive approaches and language around care. Recently, I discovered a fascinating book, https://www.amazon.com/Systems-Theory-Action-Shelly-Smith-Acuna/dp/047047582X (Systems Theory in Action: Applications to Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy) by Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña. She is the dean of the Graduate School for Professional Psychology at the University of Denver, and is a licensed psychologist who specializes in couple and family therapy. While I was reading her book, I couldn't help but imagine how each of these different players in the healthcare system struggle for different reasons. In this episode, I'm sending all the players of healthcare to get therapy because, let's face it, healthcare systems are really dysfunctional. In this episode, Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña and I discuss: The definition of Systems Theory, and how it relates to psychology The healthcare system as a family unit includes: the server (healthcare workers), the bureaucrat (administrators), the patient, the guard (insurance companies), the dealer (Big Pharma), and the judge (state medical boards). The seven principles of systems theory: context, causality, communication, change, structure, history, and the social cultural narratives ( first four reviewed in this episode, part 1):How context can give us a better understanding of the relationship between the parts and the whole in healthcare systems The nature of causality (or cause and effect), andhow we tend to blame from a linear perspective rather than consider a more shared responsibility. Communication: the inconsistency between message sent and message received, the intent and the impact of communication, and how communication can have various purposes like: establishing status, solving problems, creating emotional bonds How the healthcare system both creates and resists change Resources https://bookshop.org/books/systems-theory-in-action-applications-to-individual-couple-and-family-therapy/9780470475829 (Systems Theory in Action: Applications to Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy) by Dr. Shelly Smith-Acuña, 2011. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7604257/pdf/lra-13-171.pdf (Burnout in Healthcare Workers: Prevalence, Impact and Preventative Strategies). Season 5 Episode 3"We launched right into the bitchin'," says Shelly Smith as the latest Cabbage episode begins. Welcome to Jazz Cabbage Café! On this episode, hosts Jamie Lowell and Rick Thompson bring in Mike McCurdy (Chair, Cannabis Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party) and Ryan Basore (Redemption Cannabis/Foundation) to talk about the historic first meeting of The Clemency Project. You can catch that first meeting on Jazz Cabbage Cafe's channel. The Project aims to move the Governor's office toward a more favorable approach on clemency, and to push for changes in the process legislatively. Also: the Michael Thompson case was discussed, and his parole date of January 28th at 8am was revealed by McCurdy. Basore hints at some sort of celebration for the man along the roadside as he is driven away. The group tosses around the concept of raising taxes to pay for social equity programs, as was recently proposed by the Marijuana Regulatory Agency's Social Equity Workgroup. Jamie teases a John Sinclair appearance for the January 26 episode. Mr. Sinclair is the cannabis industry's grandfather, having been put in jail for ten years for possession of two joints. His freedom was won by John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger and other greats in a concert at the old Crisler Arena in Detroit. He was freed from jail by decision of the Michigan Supreme Court in 1974 and has attained legendary status in the music world and for his beat-style poetry. Also: what does the Senate flipping into numerical control by the Democrats really mean for cannabis law reform? Plus: harsh words for an editorial appearing in a 10-year Michigan cannabis magazine criticizing Rick Thompson in pretty disgusting terms. His friends come to his defense. "F--k you," Debra Young says to the editorial's author, who we will not name or cite. In the Patch, we have some tough Cabbages. With brand new Red Dwarf back on our screens, no pesky lockdown was going to prevent us from forcing our semi-formed, barely-thought-through opinions on you via a live platform. The entire G&T team of Jonathan Capps, Danny Stephenson and Ian Symes logged on to the G&T Towers remote access point, as did our guests Phil Pagett, Jo Sharples and Shelly Smith. And there was much to talk about over the course of two damn hours, including giant floppy disks, fake deaths, moonlight, a bit of unfortunate outdated language, the new Gary Glitter of space, surprising siblings, a more fitting name for the Anubis Stone, and men of painted neck. For the first time ever, we bothered to properly integrate the Skype feed into our broadcasting console, rather than just turning the speakers up loud enough to be picked up by the microphone in the room and hoping for the best. It worked a little too well on the night, with the Skype correspondents much higher in the mix than the people behind the desk, but we've managed to tweak the levels a little for this catch-up version, to provide a slightly less irritating listening experience.

Mental Illness is a very difficult but extremely important issue to talk about. And this is even more heightened when one is going through divorce. Shedding light on this issue is Shelly Smith, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who talked about Mental Health & Wellness in Episode 8. In this episode, we discuss the different factors that can affect the divorce process when mental illness is involved. But the overarching theme, and the most critical, is for women to build a strong support system around her. It is important to have family, friends, and professionals help and guide you as you go through divorce. Going through divorce while dealing with mental illness is difficult, but as one of my favorite quote says… “Fortune favors the brave” You are brave! You have what it takes to navigate through this season, to advocate for yourself and your family. Listen in as Shelly and I talk about: Mental illness is rarely discussed but is more common than we realize If you suspect that you or your former spouse might be suffering from mental illness, the most important thing is to get professional help and proper diagnosis You need to set-up people, professionals, and boundaries in place to help you and protect you How and when to involve mental health counselling Reflect on your circumstances and allow healing to take place How the legal system is set up to create boundaries and deadlines, and minimize unpredictability Important things to remember: Take time to reflect on your situation. You can use a journal to help you navigate your emotions. Once you have the clarity from your reflection, reframe your mindset about the whole situation Remember that healing is a journey that takes time Having a support system is extremely important ASK. Ask for help, ask for protection, ask for guidance. For someone who is going through divorce, it is not a cake walk. It’s more like riding on a never-ending emotional rollercoaster. Emotions are all over the place and it may feel like you are in a pit. Women going through divorce are constantly seeking guidance and directions on how to manage their feelings, and on how to improve their self-compassion. Shelly Smith, a Licensed Therapist on Marriage and Family Therapy, shares her insights on how women can be empowered during these tough times. Listen in as Shelly and I talk about: Self-care and how we can practice self-care in such a rocky, emotional time of our lives What major shifts happen when you are going through divorce and what can you do about them Self-compassion and how can having this present during divorce can help us feel much better How self-talk is an important aspect in achieving self-care What tools you can use to uplift your confidence and worth during these times How changes in our personalities shift and what it could mean to our relationships How negativity is privileged and positivity is ignored and how that influences divorced women Shelly shares these tips for mental health and wellness self-care: Self-care includes the little things that we often not think about and are fundamental to supporting ourselves emotionally. It’s necessary that we don’t bottle up our emotions because holding it in is not healthy and may hurt us in some ways. Being self-compassionate can help in the whole process of divorce It’s helpful to understand that emotions can change day by day, but remember that it will get better through time. There are two things you can do everyday: giving positive self-talk and setting boundaries. Shelly gives chunks of helpful advices on how to come out of the places we are struggling. We have to keep that in mind, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes Resources: Shelly Smith, LMFT Co-Founder, United Counseling & Wellness 312-635-4354 www.tryucw.com shelly@unitedcounselingwellness.com Special Offer: Mention the Divorce Conversations Podcast and receive a FREE phone consult. --- Visit The Women's Financial Wellness Center for a full directory listing of experts. https://www.womensfinancialwellnesscenter.com/our-supporters Be sure to reach out if you would like to connect personally with The Women’s Financial Wellness Center.
