Ready to Feel Amazing? Listen in & learn…Why the Women's Health Initiative Study set women's health care back in 2002, and why we don't need to be afraid of hormone replacement therapy as a treatment for the most common symptoms of hormone decline. Why your family doctor might not have the answers you're looking for, and may feel as frustrated about that too, and what you can do about it. How women can take well-being into their own hands with a “self-contract” to live fully and stay healthy through midlife and beyond. Why we need to be advocating to have provincial governments cover the cost of hormone replacement therapy given the preventative aspect of this kind of treatment. Why generalizations don't work when discussing treatment options for women's health and why it's important to consider each individual separately. Why living with the discomforts caused by hormone decline is not something women need to accept - it is absolutely possible to feel vibrant & energetic as we age. How ventures capitalized on the desperation of women seeking relief in the wake of the deeply flawed propaganda that followed the Women's Health Initiative study, making it difficult for factual information to compete. Women talk about lots of topics, but vaginal health isn't typically one of them. Yet midlife is the perfect time to start the conversation because most women will experience vaginal issues. In fact, 60 percent of menopausal women have vaginal symptoms like dryness, and this goes up to 80% post-menopause. But it's not just about some annoying symptoms. Compromised vaginal health has many health implications for women including painful intercourse, poor quality of life, recurrent UTIs, incontinence, and more. In the world of social media, the work of Shirley Weir caught my eye. I couldn't help but notice how she encouraged women to moisturize their vaginas. She brings midlife women's issues like vaginal health front and center because doesn't want women to suffer needlessly. “77 percent of women have questions about their health,” she said. “And 80% of women tell me they don't have anyone to talk to about these questions pertaining to perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. So, there's a lot of work to do.” Shirley is the founder of Menopause Chicks, a private community for women going through perimenopause and menopause. Menopause Chicks provides tips and guidance to women with the aim to crack open the conversation around midlife health. She is also the author of Mokita: How to Navigate Perimenopause with Comfort and Ease. We have a frank conversation about what every woman midlife needs to know about vaginal health along with a few other midlife topics sprinkled in.
Shirley Weir, author of Mokita,: How to navigate perimenopause with confidence & ease and founder of Menopause Chicks, is now an expert on menopause from a physical, psychological, emotional and sociological point of view. She has helped countless women and created a community of over 27k women to support each other on these topics. We have a very frank discussion about menopause and that it has gotten an unnecessarily bad rap—how can we change the perception of menopause and perimenopause—a normal life transition that no one wants to talk about. As usual for me, I was very frank about my own feelings and experiences. Shelly was smart, graceful and supportive. If our conversation doesn't convince you that menopause is normal and not all bad and we need to change the perception of it—well then, just stay in your cave! The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 212: Menopause Myths and Facts with Shirley Weir Description: A topic some people might not feel comfortable talking about is menopause, yet this is something that concerns not just people who menstruate (about half the world's population!) Chances are, even people who don't menstruate live with or support people who do. However, a lot of menstruating people often start perimenopause and reach menopause with no idea about the changes their bodies are undergoing and how to deal with them. Shirley Weir, Menopause Chick, is ready to bust some of the common myths surrounding menopause and share the facts about this “taboo” topic. Shirley Weir first began experiencing symptoms related to perimenopause more than 10 years ago, and was unable to find answers to her questions. She also authored MOKITA: How to Navigate Perimenopause with Confidence & Ease, which reached #1 on Amazon.ca in women's health. Did you know that menopause is only one day?
