In this episode of Openwork, we talk with our sales director, Geoff Souder, about what fundamentally changes when you move from selling traditional luxury watches to selling independent brands. Drawing on decades of experience with mainstream names like Rolex and Patek Philippe, Geoff explains how scale and standardization create a polished but often homogenous retail experience, then contrasts that with the realities of independence—where there is no built-in foot traffic and every relationship must be earned. The conversation centers on how independent watches shift the meaning of ownership inward, away from status and recognition and toward personal connection, artistic intent, and patronage, ultimately reshaping not just how watches are sold, but how they're understood and valued. Hosted by Asher Rapkin and Gabe Reilly, co-founders of Collective Horology, Openwork goes inside the watch industry. You can find us online at collectivehorology.com. While there are many who do ministry in life, there aren't too many who have a calling to live out a life of ministry fulltime in every aspect of their life. Make no mistake, if you know Jesus Christ, you are called to do ministry throughout your life… but for others, such as today's guest, it's their vocation as well as their advocation. From a calling within his ministry, a life of carrying for kids and their families within the hunting and fishing world began. With over 1000 kids and their families served each year, they are having a huge impact on families across Texas.  And they do all this as a service, often for free!

Some books arrive in the world because their authors have always dreamed of writing them. Others are born from heartbreak, stitched together from the pieces of a life forever altered. Your NICU Story is the latter — a tender, practical, and deeply human guide born from Ravi and Mahaley Patel's experience of loving and losing their daughter, Saachi, after a birth injury and a NICU stay. What began as unimaginable grief became a mission: to help other parents navigate the uniquely disorienting, exhausting, and often traumatic world of the NICU — whether their child came home or not.Co-written with therapist Emily Souder, Your NICU Story is part journal, part reflection guide, part lifeline. Structured like a workbook, it gently walks readers through five stages of the NICU journey — from those first moments in the unit, to the long days and nights by an incubator, to the complexity of going home (with or without a baby). With prompts that invite honesty, space for partners' voices, and room to write or simply sit with memories, it offers both a tool for processing trauma and an anchor for those still feeling adrift. The book's structure is intentional — trauma fragments memory, and these pages help knit it back together. But Your NICU Story is more than a book; it's an act of generosity. In sharing their own heartbreak with vulnerability and even moments of hard-won humor, the Patels have given other families permission to speak their truths. For parents, grandparents, partners, and friends touched by the NICU, it's a reminder that healing is not linear, that small wins matter, and that love endures beyond every beeping monitor. Above all, it's proof that even in the wake of profound loss, there is still a way to create meaning, to connect, and to honor the smallest lives in the biggest way possible.Your NICU Story: Reflecting on Your Family's Experience by Emily Souder and Mahaley Patel: https://amzn.to/41Fx5a6

This diversity is really important, because whether you're an island nation, and you maybe have floating solar or offshore wind and you want to bring it in and hold it for when you (need it), every week you want to repurpose it for your ports or your infrastructure, your urban centers.” Julia Souder on Electric Ladies Podcast The waves of extreme heat, wildfires, hurricanes and tornadoes remind us daily of the need to make sure we can power our lives, communities and economy over long durations – and with energy that is net zero carbon emissions so that we reduce global warming. Renewables are great, but how do we store it for when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow – or when hydropower plants run dry? Enter long duration energy storage. Listen to Julia Souder, CEO of the Long Duration Energy Storage Energy Council, explain how it works and where it comes from, and shares insightful career advice, in this fascinating discussion with Electric Ladies host Joan Michelson.  You'll hear about: What exactly long duration energy storage is and how the four types of it work. When long duration energy storage can be tapped and what parts of our economy and communities it can serve, giving us peace of mind. How long duration energy storage can service disaster areas, rural communities and remote areas. Plus, insightful career advice, such as… “I would offer three things of advice. One would be, start looking at boards, even like a local community board, a nonprofit. Just start getting your name out there because you want to build your experience. It doesn't have to be anything big… My next second point is, it doesn't hurt to ask, and I have to remind myself to do this too. You can ask questions. It's not just curiosity, but there's just a joint learning there…. And the last point I'd say is, when you're negotiating your review processes or your next promotion, or even a new job, ask for a coach, an executive coach. I think that's really important. Having executive coaches are phenomenal.” Julia Souder on Electric Ladies Podcast Read Joan's Forbes articles here. The traditional answer, centered on performance and duty, is not resonating with men today, leading many men to feel confused and disconnected from their faith. Let's let Tim share some insights with us on how we can begin to foster biblical understanding and spiritual growth in our churches. The episode focuses on the question 'What is a biblical man?' and discusses the inadequacies of traditional performance-based definitions. With statistics showing that men are disengaging from church activities and leadership, the speaker introduces three truths to redefine biblical manhood: understanding one's identity as a child of God, living life through Jesus, and viewing life from God's perspective. The speaker mentions a new model called 'The Man Journey' and emphasizes the need for identity and spiritual growth over performance. Discussions include the importance of scripture immersion, role modeling, group dynamics, and accountability. The session also highlights effective biblical study tools, discipleship, and the significance of transparent leadership to foster true spiritual growth.   Stay Informed - Get our newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hPViAr   Key Takeaways: 00:00 Introduction and Current Challenges 00:59 The Problem with Performance-Based Definitions 02:13 The Man Journey: A New Approach 02:47 Insights from a Men's Pastor 04:36 The Three Truths of Biblical Manhood 04:49 Understanding Identity in Christ 05:42 Living by the Life of Another 07:23 Freedom to Fail and Its Impact 09:37 Viewing Life from God's Perspective 23:18 Practical Applications and Group Dynamics 27:20 Understanding Identity in Christ 28:09 Modeling and Transformation 29:02 Sharing Personal Stories 31:10 The Importance of Vulnerability 37:11 Encouragement and Accountability 41:39 Vision and Discipleship 47:08 David's Example of God's Perspective Resources on Discipleship Becoming a Disciple Maker Biblical Study Tools: https://discipleship.org/resources/ebooks/  Defining Discipleship: https://discipleship.org/bobbys-blog/the-definition-of-disciple/

Kirk references Howard Thurman and says, “Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what brings you alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people brought alive.” It is the responsibility of leaders to support their people to identify and nourish what brings them alive. This is all about shifting mindsets, opening to a recognition of possibilities.Kirk shares the story of his client at Mattel who chose to trust her calling and to feed that which brings her alive.
