On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, we're discussing something that so many people struggle with - Asking for help.I'm sharing a powerful passage from Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" that totally changed my perspective. He basically wrote that we shouldn't be ashamed to need support - just like a soldier who's been wounded might need a comrade to lend a helping hand.Growing up in a blue-collar family, I learned early on that asking for help seemed like weakness. But here's a truth: We're not born knowing how to do every single thing! Remember when we were babies and little kids? We needed help with EVERYTHING - from tying our shoes to brushing our teeth to making a sandwich! So why do we suddenly think that we should know how to handle all of life's complex challenges all by ourselves?I share how trauma and tough upbringings can make us behave in hyper-independent ways – where we hate to ask for ask and definitely don't want to feel like we're “bothering” people. We can also develop this kind of shield that says, "I've got this," when sometimes, we really don't.

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I'm diving into why we shouldn't be "parrots" – just mindlessly repeating the things we're told, the words we read, or what we hear in our environment - without thinking for ourselves. Drawing from some personal stories about actual parrots and my experiences working with author Marianne Williamson, I share how important it is to develop your own unique voice and point-of-view.I discuss how we often unconsciously repeat sayings and stories from our childhood, family of origin, or the media, without ever even questioning them.Whether it's religious dogma, political views, or random so called "facts" we've heard online, I invite people to do their homework, to dig deeper, to spend some time with yourself, and figure out what you truly think, feel, and believe. The world doesn't need another “carbon copy” of what's already out there - it needs YOU! Your unique experiences, insights, and one-of-a-kind perspectives are invaluable. So, I encourage us all to be curious, ask questions, challenge inherited narratives, and have the courage to speak our authentic truth, even if it means standing out from the familiar crowd. My hope is to inspire you to be the first ever version of yourself, not a watered-down replica of somebody else.Whether you're dealing with old family stories, professional expectations, or societal pressures, remember: your individual voice matters. So, let's stop parroting and start exploring what YOU really think and feel!KK'S KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Don't mindlessly repeat beliefs without understanding their true origin.• Question everything you've been taught, especially childhood-inherited narratives.• Your unique perspective is valuable.• Research deeply and gather your own empirical evidence.• The world needs your authentic voice, not some watered-down version of somebody else.• Be courageous enough to develop and share your original thoughts.• Verify sources and information before repeating what you've read or heard.• Your individual experiences create a perspective that no one else has.• Continuously learn, grow, and refine your understanding of the greater world.• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. What does it really mean to step into the calling God has prepared for you? In 2 Kings, we witness the powerful transition from Elijah to Elisha, where true discipleship requires unwavering commitment and the courage to embrace God's greater purposes. Elisha's bold request for a double portion reveals how we can step into the spiritual inheritance available to each of us. Listen now and be inspired to follow Jesus with that same wholehearted enthusiasm.
On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into something we all might bump-up against: those little "death wish" moments in our lives where we're not taking the best care of ourselves. It all started with a crazy motorcycle ride I witnessed on 93 North, where this kid was weaving in and out of traffic at 120 miles an hour - totally reckless and dangerous! That got me thinking about how we all have our own versions of the ol' "death wish.” Maybe it's ignoring medical advice, continuing unhealthy habits, or not prioritizing our physical and mental well-being. I'm talking about those choices we make that deep down we know aren't serving us.Things like not managing chronic conditions, skipping out on exercise, eating like crap, not getting enough rest, or creating unnecessary financial stress. The real heartbeat of this episode is about having self-awareness and then breaking those patterns. We know that our brains love familiar territory, which is why changing habits can feel so tough. But here's the deal: we have more control than we think!By understanding how our neural pathways work and making small, consistent changes, over time - we can actually rewire our brain and create healthier habits. Pretty cool, right? So, this is an invitation to hit pause and to take a look at the different buckets in your life. Where are you playing it kinda' loose? What small choices are you making now that might make a big impact on your long-term health and happiness down the road? What buckets/areas could use a little bit more of your positive attention? This isn't about judgment - it's about being curious and loving yourself enough to make better choices. Remember, every tiny step counts, and you are totally worth the effort! xoKK'S KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Our daily choices can slowly impact our long-term health.• Reckless behavior isn't always dramatic, but even subtle stuff can be dangerous.• The brain naturally prefers familiar patterns.• Small, consistent actions can create new neural pathways in the brain over time.• Self-awareness is the first step to making those meaningful changes.• Resistance is a normal part of the human experience.• Our health involves different buckets - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.• Your personal development work affects more than just you.• Compassionate self-reflection is more powerful than harsh self-criticism.• Prioritizing self-care is an act of love.• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, we're diving into one of my favorite concepts from Anne Lamott's best-selling book, Bird by Bird. This simple, but life-changing strategy has been wicked helpful not only for me, but for my mentoring clients, too! It's one of the key ways that I've learned to approach and tackle overwhelming to-do lists without totally losing my mind. The core idea comes from a story that Anne wrote of in her book about a challenge her brother was facing as a kid, and how her father encouraged him with these now infamous words, “Bird by bird, buddy.”I share how this concept can be a total game-changer for you too, especially when you're facing an intimidating project – which can be anything from cleaning out a newly deceased parent's house to helping your kid apply to college, or learning a new skill or trying to start a podcast, etc.Whether you're an entrepreneur struggling with some fancy fandangled tech stuff or someone feeling frozen in their tracks by a complex task, the "Bird by Bird" method is your secret weapon against overwhelm and procrastination. The key is to stop looking at the entire mountain of work ahead and instead to simply focus on just the next teeny-tiny step you can take.Print out that PDF form, open the website, take a deep breath, type one sentence, do just one small thing to get you moving forward and gaining momentum.I'm all about keeping our nervous system calm and not letting fear and anxiety hijack our progress.Sometimes that means we've gotta' break things down to the absolute smallest action or even calling in help from someone who finds that “daunting to you” task easy.My biggest takeaway? We're capable of so much more when we're not in fight-or-flight mode. So please don't beat yourself up or get stuck in a shame spiral, and remember: you can handle anything by taking it “bird by bird.”KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Breaking big projects into tiny steps helps reduce overwhelm.• Try to focus on one small task at a time.• Avoid time traveling / future-tripping.• Your nervous system might respond better to incremental progress.• Ask for help from a smarty-pants when a task feels too complicated.• Don't shame yourself when you're feeling stuck or frustrated.• Most overwhelming projects become manageable when approached step-by-step.• Recognize when you're entering a habitual stress response and hit pause.• Remember that many tasks seem harder in anticipation than in execution.• Repeat the mantra "Bird by Bird" when feeling overwhelmed.• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, we talk about the true meaning behind my "Stop Playing Dumb" t-shirt and its powerful message!Spoiler alert: it's not about politics or social issues, but about recognizing and remembering your true spiritual nature. I dive into how we often suffer because we get stuck in over identifying with our bodies, our past mistakes, and perceived limitations. But the thing is: you're not just a "meat puppet", some ol' bag of bones with a long list of screwups. You are a gosh-dang child of God, a part of the indivisible Universe, an extension of the Divine, and Love incarnate! My mission with this episode? To help you to “stop playing dumb” about who and what you really are.One of the biggest reasons we resist owning our power is fear.Sometimes we're afraid that if we actually accept how awesome we are, we'll then be shit-out-of excuses for not finally doing “the thing”!Whether that thing is pursuing your dreams, writing that book, asking for help, leaving a bad relationship, speaking your truth, forgiving yourself, or (fill in the blank).Part of recognizing our true nature means that we're willing to take responsibility for our own internal experience. My invitation to you is simple: let's begin by putting on our "big people pants"

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I discuss a fun and helpful idea that I've been sharing with my 1:1 clients and Nest community. It's a concept I call, "Fine, Define, Refine" – which basically suggests that from the start we're totally “fine”, perfect, and awesome! But then the crazy world gets a hold of us, life stuff happens, and people start slapping labels on you that maybe leave you feeling not-so-fine. But here's the thing - those pesky and sometimes hurtful labels aren't the real you!One of the ways we get our mojo and magic back is when we start to "re-fine" ourselves. This isn't about fixing what we perceive as broken. This is about remembering who we truly are. It's about looking at ourselves with love, ditching those external definitions, and reconnecting with our innate, Divine essence. We're not broken - we just temporarily feel disconnected from our true selves. My little love reminder from my heart to yours? You came in perfect. The world might have tried to define you, but you have the power to redefine and remember your inherent value. You're not just good enough - you're brilliant, beautiful, and absolutely worthy of love. So, how about we stop beating ourselves up, and start celebrating who we really are! KEY TAKEAWAYS:• You are inherently "fine", worthy, and lovable• External influences will try to define you• You can refine yourself through compassion and self-love• Always remember your eternal, Divine, spiritual essence• Those pesky labels are not your true identity• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, we dive into a question that I wish was on more people's minds: Why do we do the things we do? I kick things off with a story about a family's Easter tradition - where generations of women kept doing the same damn thing - simply because that's how it had always been done, because no one questioned the original reason. This got me thinking about how we inherit certain beliefs, habits, stories, and ways of doing things from our families, the culture, and our childhood experiences. Whether it's politics, religion, relationships, or daily routines, we often follow patterns without ever stopping to ask, "Does this actually make sense to me and for me right now?" It's like we're sometimes running on autopilot, repeating those inherited scripts without checking if they still serve us.You know me, I'm all about encouraging people (including myself) to become curious investigators of their own lives. Are you following all the rules blindly, or are you willing to ask "Why"? Why do I do this, say this, think this, believe this? Just because something worked in the past doesn't mean it's still the best approach for us now. Our lives are constantly evolving, and our strategies, systems, and stories should evolve with them. One of my big takeaways? We have to challenge our own assumptions and be willing to question our beliefs, habits, and automatic responses.Whether it's in our relationships, our work, or our personal growth, staying curious and open to new ways of seeing, thinking, doing and being can help us break free from outdated patterns and create more intentional and meaningful ways of living.Remember, you're not bound by how things have always been done - you have the powerand the right to choose a different path! KEY TAKEAWAYS:• We've got to question inherited traditions and family belief systems.• We must challenge why we do the things we do without thinking.• It helps to pause and reflect before automatically following the rules.• Our personal growth requires that we challenge our current thought patterns• Have fun experimenting with new approaches to old problems.• Curiosity is the key to new and lasting personal transformation.• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into a topic that might make some folks squirm: Sometimes, the problem really is YOU.
Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I dive deep into a message I'm calling, "It's Not You."This episode is a little love letter to all the creatives, entrepreneurs, and sensitive souls out there who sometimes feel discouraged when their work doesn't seem to land. Using my Sweetie's music career as an example, I share how the same incredibly talented musician can get standing ovations in one venue, and be completely ignored in another. The key? It's all about the right audience, the right place, and the right time. Just because people aren't responding the way we wish, it doesn't mean our work isn't valuable - it might just mean we haven't found our people, yet!I also talk about how easy it is to turn it all on yourself and start beating yourself up when you're not experiencing the outcomes you had hoped for.But here's the truth: your worth isn't determined by likes, sales, or applause. Sometimes you're just sharing your gifts with the wrong crowd, and that's okay. The world still needs your unique voice, even if it takes time to find the enthusiastic listeners who truly appreciate it. My biggest takeaways? Be gentle with yourself and surround yourself with your "Balcony People" – those supportive humans who see you, get you, celebrate you, lift you up, and encourage you! Also, be wicked careful about who you share your vulnerable creative work with, and always remember that your calling is bigger than any single moment of rejection. Keep creating, keep showing up, and trust that your right audience will find you. I'm cheering you on! xo KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Your worth isn't defined by other people's reactions.• The right people and place make a really big difference.• Don't “cast your pearls” before people who don't or can't get it.• Creativity thrives with supportive, loving listeners.• Keep creating, even when response feels discouraging. • Find your “Balcony People” who genuinely celebrate you and your work.• You have an “individual Curriculum”.• Your art is valuable, regardless of immediate recognition.• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into a concept That I call, "Head, Heart, Hands" – which is a powerful approach to personal transformation that flips how we typically try to change our lives. Instead of white-knuckling our way through external behavior changes, I explain why it's crucial to start with the internal landscape of our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and stories.Drawing from my own journey and some wisdom from spiritual smarty-pants like Paramahansa Yogananda, I share how real, lasting change happens when we align our mind and heart first!Think of it like this: if your head and heart are truly on board with a change, your hands (aka: your actions) are way more likely to naturally follow. So, it's not about forcing yourself to stop doing something, but more like shifting your internal perspective - so gradually, but inevitably, the old behavior just doesn't make sense anymore. I talk about how our ego mind loves to keep us in those old familiar patterns, while also crafting stories of guilt, shame, and limitation. But here's the truth: Who you really are is not broken and doesn't need to be fixed. What we need is to unlearn some of the survival strategies that no longer serve us, and also take time to tune into that quieter, loving voice inside us that knows our true potential. If you're feeling stuck trying to change something in your life - whether it's a health habit, a relationship pattern, or a professional goal - this episode offers a helpful way of approaching things. Start by getting curious about your inner world.Ask yourself, “What thoughts are driving my current behavior? What beliefs are holding me back? What stories have I been telling about myself? What identity am I willing to let go?”Remember, “the assignment is alignment” and when your head and heart believe in the change you want to make, your hands will take action to make it happen! KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Change your thoughts first, your behaviors will naturally follow.• “The assignment is alignment.”• Internal alignment matters more than external willpower.• Spiritual growth happens when our heads and hearts connect.• Love transforms things quietly; ego/fear maintains old patterns loudly.• Unlearning limiting beliefs can unlock our true potential.• Our identity shapes our actions, even more powerfully than pure discipline.• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive into a powerful parable about “lifeboats” and how we often miss the help that's right in front of us. I share an old story about a guy who refuses to be rescued during a flood, because he keeps waiting for God to save him.Only to later discover that help came to him multiple times in multiple forms, but he simply refused to see it or accept it. The big lessons here?Sometimes we get so stuck in our own ways of thinking - that we miss incredible opportunities for growth, change and support. I talk about how we limit ourselves by expecting help and helpers to look a certain way - whether that's from a specific type of person, professional, program, or process. We can block our own healing by being stubborn and narrow-minded and insisting that things look a certain way.I explain how my approach as a Spiritual Mentor isn't about "fixing" people (cause' they're not broken) - but rather that I integrate tools and techniques that support your Mind, Body, and Spirit to create real, sustainable transformations. My bottom line: Stay curious and open. The universe sends help in wild and unexpected ways - through a random text, a book that falls off a shelf, or a conversation with someone you'd least expect. We don't want to get so caught up in our own stories that we miss our rescue boat.Sometimes the lifeboat is right in front of you, and all you need to do is climb aboard!KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Help can come in unexpected forms.• Be open to receiving it differently than you imagined.• Internal wisdom is just as important as external guidance.• Getting stuck in old patterns and beliefs.• Spiritual Mentorship is not about “fixing” you.• Providing new tools and shifting perspectives.• You've gotta' be “Open for Business”.• Healing is holistic – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.• We're all potential “lifeboats” for each other.• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. In this episode of the Creative Genius podcast, I interview Rebe Huntman about her debut memoir, "My Mother in Havana, a memoir of magic and miracle." Rebe shares her personal story of losing her mother at a young age and the subsequent decades of feeling disconnected from her memory. Driven by a deep longing and intuition, Rebe embarked on a 30-day DIY pilgrimage to Cuba to seek a different perspective on grief and connection. The conversation delves into how Rebe's background as a Latin dancer led her to discover the spiritual roots of Cuban dances and the traditions of honoring the deceased. Rebe recounts her experiences immersing herself in rituals dedicated to the goddess Oshun, visiting the sanctuary of Cuba's patron saint, and meeting with a spiritist who she hoped would connect her with her mother.Rebe and I discuss the importance of intuition and following one's unique path, even when it doesn't seem logical. We also explore the disconnect in Western culture from ancestral connections, magic, and meaningful rituals, contrasting it with the Cuban traditions of keeping the dead close. The conversation touches on the challenges of staying creative and connected to one's inner voice in the face of overwhelming global issues and personal fears. Rebe shares her belief in creativity as a portal and emphasizes the importance of honouring inner longings and choosing to champion humanity. She also shares her personal rituals for grounding and connecting with her intuition and ancestors, offering practical advice for listeners seeking to do the same. Ultimately, Rebe's story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, the wisdom of intuition, and the potential for magic and miracle in our lives, even in the darkest of times.
On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, you're going to get a chance to discover if you're a thermometer kind of person -or- a thermostat kind of person.Basically, a thermometer just records the temperature. It registers the warm or cold degrees of the room it's in and lets you know what's happening outside of you and around you. It's a reflector of a space. While a thermostat actually sets and changes the temperature. It has control and can affect the world around it.To illustrate this point, and to come at it from a different angle, I'll first share a personal story about encountering different types of people - some warm and welcoming, and others cold and off-putting.Then I'll dive deeper into things, by drawing inspiration from the originator of this concept, Dr. Henry Hitt Crane, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who also did a sermon about it.I explore how rather than just passively reacting to the environment around you like a thermometer, we get to be a "thermostat" who can work to change or improve the environment or community it finds itself in.The core message is that we have the power to choose who and how we want to be. Instead of being reactive to society – we can be proactive and actually transform it!Developing a Daily Spiritual Practice (DSP) can also help you train your mind to be more aware and intentional.Whether it's meditation, prayer, or simply setting an intention each morning, you can learn to be a thermostat - someone who transforms the temperature of their environment through love, empathy, kindness, warmth, and positive energy! KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Thermometer vs. Thermostat• Choose Your Energy Wisely• Be Proactive, Not Reactive• Set Your Inner Temperature• Make History, Don't Be Made By It• DSP + Mind Training• You Control Your Thermostat• Transform Society Through Love• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, we explore the "Four M's" - those sneaky survival mechanisms that we sometimes picked up, while growing up, in our challenging family environments. Inspired by a Bill Burr interview I listened to, I share how we often develop coping strategies that might have kept us safe as kids, but totally mess with our adult relationships. I break down what the four M's are: Mothering (constantly trying to fix everyone else's problems for them), Managing (wanting to control everything and everyone around you), Manipulation (using subtle and not so subtle tactics to try to get what you want), and last but not least, Martyrdom (sacrificing yourself without being asked and then feeling resentful). Any of this sound familiar? Trust me, I've been there.
On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive deep into the surprisingly spiritual world of The Care Bears. And trust me, it's way more profound than you'd expect from cute, colorful teddy bears! I break down how these adorable characters and their “cousins” actually represent powerful spiritual principles.Especially when we look at their incredible "Care Bear Stare" – which is a collective beam of positive energy that can literally transform negativity. How fun is that?!Each Care Bear has a unique "belly badge" representing their special power, which they activate through joining together, blasting positive emotions, and using focused concentration. Sound familiar? It's basically a metaphor for how we can show up in the world, too. The real magic happens when these bears (and by extension, us) come together with conviction. They also teach us that love isn't weak - it's a fierce force that can overcome all kinds of challenges. And by using our individual gifts and joining forces, we can create massive positive change! It's about recognizing that we each have a unique superpower, and when we combine those powers, we're basically unstoppable. Heck yeah!My big takeaway? We need to be more like Care Bears: recharge through service, stay committed to love, and remember that we can do incredible things - but only if we do them together! So, a few fun questions for you… 1) What would be your Care Bear color? 2) What's your "belly badge" and 3) How are you going to blast some love into the world today? It's time to activate your Care Bear Stare! Who's with me?! KEY TAKEAWAYS:• The Care Bear Stare• Love is a fierce power• Recharge through helping others• Your Belly Badge / Special Gift• Teamwork beats individual struggle• Positive emotions create change• The Power of concentration + conviction• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I dive deep into the concept of “toxic positivity”.I explore how the well-intentioned, but harmful practice of forcing positivity can actually invalidate people's genuine emotional experiences, including your own. I share some examples and personal stories of how toxic positivity shows up in conversations, from dismissive statements like "just stay positive" - to outright minimizing someone's real struggles.I break down why these seemingly supportive phrases can be deeply damaging and so not soothing!I also explain how those “good vibes only” sentiments pressure people to suppress their authentic feelings, and deny the complexity of human emotions. Throughout the episode, I offer some practical advice on how to truly support someone who's going through a difficult time. I emphasize the importance of listening with compassion and empathy, validating emotions that arise, and creating a space where people can feel their feelings without judgment. We also discuss the difference between genuine optimism and toxic positivity, highlighting that emotional intelligence means being able to acknowledge the full skittle rainbow spectrum of human experience. I wrap up by encouraging all of us to be more kind to ourselves and others, while also recognizing that we've all likely inflicted or experienced toxic positivity at some point. It's helpful to remember that while being positive can be powerful, our not so shiny feelings are also valid, and emotions are part of the healing process.KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Toxic Positivity can invalidate emotions• Feelings are valid and important• Empathy needs deep listening• Emotional intelligence requires self-awareness• Vulnerability can be a strength• Sensitivity is my super power!• Emotions are part of healing• Full human experience is welcome in The Nest Community• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about the importance of preparing for both external and internal "weather systems" in life. Just like meteorologists can predict storms, allowing us to get ready for what's to come, we can also prepare for the emotional and spiritual challenges that arise unexpectedly. I share how tools like yoga, meditation, and mantras - can help us learn how to slow down our fearful reactions and instead, respond from a place of love. Because that's where our true power is.I've found that building a Daily Spiritual Practice (DSP) is crucial for strengthening our "attitudinal muscles", and it helps us to find balance when life gets turbulent. Having a supportive community, like the amazing group in The Nest, can also provide invaluable guidance, connection, and resources during difficult times. Just as we train our physical bodies for things like marathons, I emphasize the importance of training our minds, alongside our spiritual and emotional selves.By proactively building resilience and resources now, we can be better equipped to handle whatever life throws our way.Whether it's a sudden loss, a health crisis, or navigating the uncertain crazy stresses of life. The key is to start preparing today, even in small ways – by doing things like setting aside some emergency savings, maintaining our physical fitness, developing relationships, and cultivating practices that nourish our body, heart, mind, and spirit. With the right tools and solid support, we can weather both the known and unknown storms and show up as our best selves, no matter what challenges may arise. KEY TAKEAWAYS:• Prepare for life's unpredictable uncertainties• Cultivate Daily Spiritual Practices (DSP)• Build emotional, mental, and spiritual resilience• Join supportive communities + seek out mentors• Integrate and apply spiritual tools to your daily life• Respond from a thought system of Love, not fear• The Nest - Group Mentoring ProgramBIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about my deep connection to a remarkable three-legged deer that we've named Trixie - who lives in the woods near my home. For the past 6 or 7-ish years, Trixie has become a symbol of resilience and hope for me, as she continues to thrive and even start a family of her own, despite all the odds stacked against her. When I recently captured a video of Trixie in our yard, it unexpectedly went viral, resonating with now over 1.7 million viewers!I believe it's because in these challenging times, Trixie's story serves as a beacon of hope! She's a reminder that with resilience and determination, we can overcome adversity, too. Even amidst the darkness and division in the world, Trixie shows us the power of maintaining an optimistic, and possibility-focused mindset. I also emphasize that hope is not naive, but a rebellious act of courage. By dreaming big and walking "as if" our hopes have already been realized, we can tap into a higher realm of possibility beyond what our physical eyes can see.Surrounding ourselves with a supportive community like The Nest is also key - to sustaining this hopeful mindset when the world seems bleak. Ultimately, I believe that love will prevail, even in the face of hatred and negativity.Trixie's story is a testament to this, and I hope it inspires listeners to cultivate more hope, resilience and compassion. Not just for themselves, but for other humans, all animals and our indivisible shared humanity. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about the simple, yet powerful concept of "starting your day over".I love the power embedded in the idea that no matter how badly your day may have started, you have the ability to hit that reset button - and begin again at any point. I share a story (with permission) about a friend in my spiritual mentoring group - The Nest, who by 4pm, had already decided her “whole day” was ruined.
On this short episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I discuss the fires that have been happening in the Los Angeles area and some of the comments I've seen online. While there has been helpful information being shared about evacuations, shelters and support, I'm also aware of some of the insensitive words that have been said or written.Unfortunately, these are the kinds of things that often get said to suffering people during times of tragedy. As humans, we can be a little clumsy – even when we're trying to be helpful. So, I encourage us to pause and really consider how our words would sound and feel to someone going through something devastating and difficult. It's an invitation to slow down and before speaking to ask ourselves…“What would it be like to be in their shoes right now?” -or- “How would it feel to be on the receiving end of the words, comments, or actions I'm about to say, say, type or do?”Ultimately, I remind everyone that we're all part of this big family and we need to come together with compassion, kindness and love, especially in the face of trauma and tragedy. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I discuss the importance of "slow learning" - especially in a culture that's become so focused on “fast outcomes” and “quick results”. I share about my own experiences of needing enough time to truly understand and integrate new information, rather than just quickly consuming it. I make the case that true learning, comes from first-hand experience and the process of acquiring knowledge through implementation and not just passively ingesting other people's content. I also reflect on how some learning methods have changed over time - and I contrast this modern approach with traditional apprenticeship models. I believe that true knowledge requires effort and patience - the willingness to spend time with material, think deeply about it, and allow it to percolate. Which is one of the reasons why I'm not a fan of the “TLDR” culture that we seem to find ourselves in.This is an invitation to forgo the instant gratification and superficial understanding that so often dominates today. Ultimately, I encourage people to adopt a more "vertical" approach to learning and personal growth - going deeper rather than wider, and being willing to invest the time and attention required for true learning and understanding.KEY POINTS:• Embracing slow, deep learning• Resisting cultural obsession with speed• True knowledge requires patience + effort• Regurgitation does not equal understanding• Cultivating long-term learning relationships• Prioritizing Depth over Breadth• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about the idea of "hatching a plan" as we move into the New Year.I discuss why it's sometimes important to keep your plans kind of a secret… and how we only want to share those tender ideas with people who will nurture and support them, rather than criticize or crush them. When making new plans, I also suggest slowing down and inviting your Inner Teacher or intuition into the process, using practices like prayer, contemplation, and meditation to quiet your mind first. This helps the plan to be more aligned with our deeper purpose and values, rather than being driven by our ego, attachment to external outcomes, or our fears.I also share how writing down your goals and plans can be a powerful tool, as studies show that people who write down their goals are 42% more likely to achieve them! These handwritten goals not only serve as a "love letter to your future self" - a tangible record of your intentions, progress, and dreams…It's also a way to nurture what matters to you - and by doing so, bringing forth something new that can serve both you and the world around you!KEY POINTS:• Hatching Plans "In Secret"• Invite Divine Guidance• Discipline Leads to Freedom• Writing Goals Down Makes a Difference• Align Your Actions with Purpose• Celebrate Your Accomplishments• Serving Yourself and the World• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about redefining what it means to create a "well-lived life."I challenge the common advice to "go big or go home," questioning whether that's really the only path to a meaningful existence.I share a personal story about a childhood friend, who passed away recently and whose life left a profound mark on his community.I reflect on how society often looks down on those who choose to live a "small" life, by things like - staying local, putting others first, and avoiding the limelight.I argue that a small life doesn't have to mean a small impact. The key message is that we don't all have to be world-famous or build massive empires to live a life of significance. Sometimes the most impactful legacies are built through quiet acts of kindness, reliability, and dedication to one's local sphere of influence.I encourage my listeners to define success on their own terms - and to focus on making a difference in the lives immediately around them, rather than chasing those external markers of achievement.Ultimately, our worth is not determined by the size of our platform or bank account. What matters most is how we show up and the positive ripple effects we have, even in a "small" life.By living with intention, authenticity, and a commitment to service, we can all leave the world a little bit better than we found it.KEY POINTS:• Small life, Big impact • Redefine success on your terms• Quiet service matters immensely• Authenticity over external achievements• Community roots bring deep fulfillment• Legacy lives in our relationships• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about the idea that, “My life is a reflection of who I have been and the choices I have made.”Meaning that the current state of your life, relationships, habits, and experiences are the cumulative result of your past thoughts, beliefs, and actions. However, to be clear, this doesn't mean your life is solely a reflection of your own choices - it's also influenced by your early life experiences, systems of oppression, and other external factors beyond your control. The good news is that you have the power to change your life by changing your mindset and making new choices going forward.Rather than dwelling on the past, which you can't change, you can pause, reflect, and consciously choose how you want to think, feel, and BE moving ahead. This involves slowing down, taking some deep breaths, and resetting your mindset to be more aligned with your values and desired outcomes.Small, consistent changes in your internal daily thoughts and actions can gradually shift the reflection you see in your external life.Instead of waiting until the new year, we can start making these shifts now!Visualize and get clear on how you want your life to look, then take practical steps to make it happen.Remember, your life is a story – so write it well and edit it often.Ultimately, your life is a mirror reflecting back to you the essence of who you have BEEN and who you are BEING.By taking responsibility for your inner world, you can create a life that beautifully reflects your true self and highest potential. It's never too late to make a change and start experiencing the life you want!KEY POINTS:• Your Life Reflects Your Choices• Slowing Down• Reset Your Mindset• Consciously Choosing Thoughts + Actions• Small Changes Create Big Shifts• Visualize the Life You Want• Your Life is a Story• The Nest - Group Mentoring Program BIO:Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Integrative Change Worker, Coach and Hypnotist. On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I put a fun new personal spin on the concept of the “Know, Like, Trust Factor.”The KLT Factor is a common marketing strategy that's focused on building relationships with clients/customers - so that people will be more likely to “buy” from or do business with you.I take this concept and flip the script – proposing that we shift our focus from an external “know, like, trust” with others - to an internal KLT experience with ourselves. This is an invitation to explore your own KLT Factor – by building a deeper relationship with your Self, Source, and Spirit – using the traditional “know, like, trust" tips!Check it out and see if you feel inspired to start your own KLT Factor leading into 2025! On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I tell a story about how I often talk about “Today me, thanking ‘younger me' – for decisions that I've made.”Which led me to discussing the powerful process created by Richard Schwartz - called Internal Family Systems (IFS) – also known as “Parts work.”I share how it's so important for us to have self-compassion when reflecting on our younger selves.I also dive deeper into the different categories of our various “Parts”, why they often get created, and removing the blocks and barriers that prevent us from accessing our true “capital S” Self.I also highlight the significance of the true Self and break down the eight qualities it embodies, like curiosity, calm, clarity, courage and more!By applying these IFS principles, we can cultivate a deeper understanding and acceptance of our past selves. This self-compassion can then empower us to integrate those younger parts and move forward with more wholeness and self-love. It's a powerful process of inner healing and growth. If you want to learn more about how to better understand and compassionately engage with the younger you – whether that was the you from 20 minutes or 20 years ago – this episode is for you! On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about if what you're doing is worth your time.Meaning, that it's important to take the time to evaluate the effectiveness of your “practices” – spiritual and otherwise.I also discuss and distinguish the difference between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It's one thing to try and consume a bunch of information – it's a totally different thing to actually integrate it into your life. The bottom line is this… if what you're doing isn't creating positive changes in you, your thinking, your behavior, or your life…Then it just might be time for a new practice! And hopefully you're choosing one that cultivate more unity and compassion, and lean more in the direction of Love.
