This season on We Go Boldly we will walk through what holds us back from living our best lives and doing all the things we dream about doing. We are focusing on how we can overcome our fear and doubt, be bolstered by faith, take risks, meet opportunity, and imagine unlimited possibilities. Every week we will work through a different aspect of what it means to both pursue our passions and accomplish the mundane; and how these topics help us to reach for our potential and live our boldest, most honest lives. Our goal this season is to explore what is holding us back, keeping us locked away behind our imagined limitations, and stopping our growth. We coach women to live their version of a bold life and pursue their unique path. This season is all about taking action and living our best lives. Hello, my name is Jeremy Caverley and I am a former resident of Godtel Ministries. This is my story from the year 2000 at the age of 19.I am a survivor of domestic violence which led me to become homeless as I had no place to live after my last trip to the emergency room as the result of an assault from my stepdad.I called a friend Debbie Reed around 3am from the pay phone in the ER lobby. She knew someone who was working in the hospital that night. From the hospital, I left that morning with no sleep and ended up at Gloria Russell Children Ministries and slept on a cot in the back room. My friend ended up calling Godtel that morning and had me ready to go for intake later that day. After some lunch, I was dropped off and Martin helped me pick through some clothes. I only had the ones on my back.I had no idea what God was planning yet!I was at Godtel from January to June. Each month I learned more about God,how to be a man, learned life skills that I lacked because of my current situation. After, settling in, I learned the rules and got right into washing dishes and cleaning the facility. Later that night, I went to my first Bible study. Each night, we had Bible lessons, which helped me learn and grow and heal with the Lord.During the week I would head out looking for work and ended up working at Casa Ole. At the same time I was also planning on missionary evangelistic work with plans to head to South Africa and a internship later that year.Fast forward 23 years to today year 2023:I am a US Coast Guard veteran, a college graduate from Ohio University with an associate and bachelor degree who was also the Vice President of Student Senate, and President of College Republicans. Now I live in Columbus, Ohio with my wife, dog , and cat.We have our own ministry called JMC Ministries. I recommend to those who are in need of a shelter that they stay at Godtel. Or, finding volunteer work because it made a difference in my life for the long term. Godtel is not a hand out, it is a hand up with Bible studies, life skill training and counseling to prepare a person for the journey back into society. On November 9, 2016, the day after Trump was elected president, three students from Oberlin College were caught shoplifting wine from Gibson's Bakery, a local staple that had been around for 137 years. Allyn Gibson, who was running the register that night, and who is white, called the cops on the three students, who were black. They fled, he chased them outside of the store, a brawl ensued and the three students were arrested. The next day, students, along with Oberlin administrators, began protesting outside the bakery, accusing them of racism. There were signs, and a Student Senate resolution, and articles in the paper, and then, the college canceled its orders with the bakery. Months after the three students pleaded guilty, with their business wounded and their reputation destroyed, the Gibsons decided to sue the college for libel. All said and done, the Gibsons were awarded $36 million. So far, the school hasn't paid a penny, continuing to appeal the decision and deny any wrongdoing. This Tuesday, the supreme court of Ohio declined Oberlin's last appeal, which means that they can either pay, file an appeal for reconsideration, or appeal, again, to the U.S. Supreme Court. Today, an exclusive sit down with Lorna Gibson, the matriarch of the bakery, about what happens when a powerful college decides to go to battle with your family. Learn more about your ad choices. Jack Denton was a college senior and the President of the Student Senate at Florida State University when he sent texts to the Catholic Student Union group chat about their shared beliefs. Images of these texts were taken out of context and maliciously spread around campus. Mobs of students, most of whom did not personally know Jack, rallied against him, demanding his removal from the university-paid student senate presidency. After a 7-hour Zoom call where they mocked and defamed him, the Student Senate fired him from his position because of the religious views he expressed. Then, Florida State University officials enforced the discriminatory termination by removing Jack from the payroll. With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, Jack sued his university for violating his First Amendment rights. After a federal court ordered the university to put Jack back on the payroll and a student court ordered the Senate to reinstate him as president, the university settled the lawsuit, and Jack was compensated for his lost salary and the religious discrimination he endured. The school has also issued a statement acknowledging that its non-discrimination policies protect all students from being kicked out of student government positions because of their faith.
