Market volatility and a difficult financing environment have contributed to a slowdown in global merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, following a very busy 2021. But with appetite for merger and acquisition (M&A) activity expected to increase through the rest of the year, buyers should focus on employing comprehensive risk management strategies to identify potential risks and address them ahead of a purchase. Marsh's Alastair Lowry, Suzanne Jones, and Scott Brady discuss the risks that buyers should be aware of and share some tools to improve the M&A process. In this episode of Ask Alice, Alice interviews mom Suzanne Jones on how she addresses drinking with her own teenage children. As someone who has been sober for years, Suzanne candidly and wisely offers insight to teenage drinking after being in the depths herself. She and Alice discuss the driving factors of underaged drinking, as well as warning signs for parents to look for. Their conversation includes practical methods for parents to openly discuss the dangers and consequences of drinking and ways to provide teenagers with in-the-moment excuses when they are offered alcohol. Suzanne encourages parents to offer grace without shame while still enforcing consequences for illegal behavior. You'll learn that there is hope for the teenager who drinks to fit in, escape, or numb— all found in Jesus. Resources:Suzanne Jones is a jewelry designer based in Birmingham, Alabama. Producer Suzanne Jones is so inspiring as a woman and leader in her field. I was thrilled to speak to her ahead of International Women's Day and the Australian premiere of ‘9 To 5 The Musical' at the Capitol Theatre Sydney. The production was due to open in 2020 but was paused due to the pandemic. The musical is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, we talk about the 42 year legacy, which the film honours, all things Dolly Parton (who wrote all the music and lyrics), as well as the Australian creatives, cast and production.

Do we underappreciate comic writing ? It's 400 years since the birth of France's great satirical playwright, Jean-Baptiste Pocquelin, better known by his pen-name Molière. Stendhal described him as “the great painter of man as he is” and his works have continued to be translated and performed on both the French and British stage with recent adaptations by Christopher Hampton, Anil Gupta and the Scottish poet and playwright, Liz Lochhead. She joins Anne McElvoy to help consider what we make of Molière now and how well his plays work in translation, alongside Clare Finburgh-Delijani, Professor of European Theatre at Goldsmiths, University of London and Suzanne Jones, a Junior Research Fellow in French at St Anne's College Oxford. Their discussion looks at various adaptations of Tartuffe, Moliere's play translated as The Hypocrite or The Imposter, which was first performed in 1664. Listen out for a Words and Music episode which picks out key speeches from plays including The Miser, the Imaginary Invalid, The School for Wives and the Misanthrope. You can hear that on BBC Radio 3 at 5.30pm Sunday 16th - followed by a new adaptation of The Miser scripted by Barunka O'Shaughnessy. You can also find out about the court music of Lully in Composer of the Week and there's a special edition of Radio 3's Early Music Show. Producer: Ruth Watts

The Show Proem From time-to-time readers and listeners ask me about my process for podcasting. Recently, Craig Constantine, a crony in podcasting, interviewed me about my podcasting journey. Craig's process is to record a 20-minute chat and publish it immediately without editing. For listeners, find a link to Craig's episode in the show notes. For readers, go here. Why do I republish an already published episode? I learn from different styles of production. Remember that I co-published a couple of episodes in the past few months with Mighty Casey Quinlan's Healthcare is Hilarious. I'll let you know my observations in the Reflections at the end. The Show Proem Hello, fine listeners and readers. This is my 143rd episode and my 510th post. I began weekly blogging on July 24th, 2012, and weekly podcasting on November 28th, 2018. I've missed two posts in nine years. A short episode on mic- just me talking for 10 to 30 minutes- takes five to twelve hours to produce. This episode took six hours. A full 40-to-60-minute interview takes 12 to 40 hours to produce. Yikes. While I enjoy almost every minute of doing it, I feel the pressure of maintaining this production level and quality. A few months ago, I shifted to alternate weeks of interviews and on mic episodes. That reduced the effort. Now I'm going to give myself a break- not stop- because I love it. But not pressure myself to produce every week. So, I will miss some. I'm letting you know. Thanks for your continuing support and support from our sponsor, Abridge, going into our third year together. And as always, thanks to Kayla Nelson and Joey van Leeuwen. You helped me make this great. Thank you. Six-word caregiving poems So, let's start with six-word caregiving poems. For this week, from the past, and it's from an episode on January 13th, 2019. Blood, sweat, tears. Shared by two. Helping one end and another begin. Disaster that ultimately gives back.

International Women’s Day has shone the spotlight on the need to attract more women into STEM. Nancy at just 24 years old, is a wonderful example that girls are interested in infrastructure.Nancy reflects on how her parents landed in Australia with absolutely nothing and worked extremely hard to afford the best possible education for their daughter. Working as a waiter till late in the evenings, Nancy’s father put her through a private school education. In this inspirational podcast, Nancy opens up about her personal journey and talks about how when at high school she identified a natural flare for numbers and decided to pursue accounting. While at Melbourne University she began to develop her passion for the tangible nature of infrastructure assets and after starting her working life as an accountant, then auditor she moved into in-depth analysis of infrastructure asset classes, relocating from Melbourne to Sydney with PWC.Dispelling the myth that girls are not intrigued by infrastructure, Nancy enthusiastically talks about how its really about the foundation of our modern society and the cohesive pulling together and transportation of people from one location to another. She is proof it is just as interesting to girls to investigate the connection of a population to vital utilities – airports, rail, electricity networks, water, desalination plants and even real estate registry systems. And given the rate and amount of privatisation that has occurred in Australia, it’s vital for the future that decisions and knowledge is gender diverse and representative of our entire population. In such a short space of time, Nancy has worked on major projects that have attracted substantial media interest. She shares about the challenges with achieving work/life balance when working on tenders till 4am in the morning. She highlights the extreme pressures on young women to go the extra mile in order to succeed in their careers and how being the only woman in the room she was once assumed to be an admin assistant and required to bring cups of tea and water. These experiences drove her to flip the selection process on its head – she began to evaluate companies whose values and culture aligned with hers. She proactively reached out to Arup, after researching the company and believing it was a wonderful fit for her career aspirations and has not looked back.

In this week’s topical Talking Property Podcast, host Suzanne Jones is joined by former Fairfax journalist Marc Pallisco and two of Australia’s top property marketers Anne Baker and Sonia Fava to discuss the impacts of digital media and the rise in consumer environmental awareness on the way Australia’s property sector markets and sells itself. The podcast explores major trends and changes such as:The rise of highly educated, researched and savvy buyers – the internet has given buyers the ability to research every nuance of the market and product. The result is developers really need to understand their target customers’ needs and preferences and meet, let alone exceed them, otherwise products won’t meet sales targets. The looming death of print brochures as more developers focus on sustainability and push marketing teams to invest in digital solutions – interactive display suits, digital marketing drawings, videos and social media influencers. The demise of the print advertising rivers of gold and the dominance that online reporting now has over traditional print. Big property sector news breaks online and is seen in print days later. It’s no longer about the product and glamorous images it’s about the ethical decisions that sit behind it. All aspects of design and construction are being reconsidered to be as green and sustainable as possible – from solar power to Tesla batteries to recycled materials and earthy finishes reflected in the homes. As investors cooled in the market, the rise in demand from owner occupiers has seen developers pivot to offering larger and livable apartments. Australia welcome to a future like Europe. The challenge to sell an apartment with no carpark despite government approval – where price point really matters along with shifting the image of the Australian property dream. What to do when it doesn’t sell. How to critically examine your price, product, go to market strategy, targeting and overall message. How not to panic and rush to conclusions. This is one of the most in-depth expert analysis podcasts of the property marketing space so far in 2020. It is a must listen for developers, property marketers and customer relationship experts and sales leads.

On average every buyer will go through 5 or 6 projects before picking the one they want to pursue, if your display suite staff cant answer your questions, your project will be discounted very quickly by a buyer.- Nic Cuni and agencies like Colliers are happy to work with and along side the in house agencies to sell a project and get the best outcome for the developer, especially in a challenging market you can get the job done a lot quicker- Eleni’s kitchen is a must for authentic Greek cuisine!

"We can't assume that because somebody looks happy, that they are, or that because somebody seems well rounded that they've got nothing going on." TRIBE OF DELINQUENTS In this episode of The Hope Initiative, I speak to my first "stranger", written as such in quotations due to the fact that whilst my guest and I have technically never met, we have spent the past 4 months helping each other learn all aspects of how to build a podcast via The Podcast Fellowship (mentioned in Episode 1) Suzanne Jones - or Suzie Q as she is affectionately known - was someone I got along with immediately. A single mother of 3 from Canada, Suzie's podcast, Happy Healthy Whole Adoptive Parenting, was borne from the experience of a person who was an adopted child herself. In this episode, we discuss her life, being sent back from her initial adopted family, what potential parents looking to adopt should and shouldn't do and how to stay positive when the world is doing its utmost to force you down. It is slightly longer than anything I've done thus far, but after an initial 2 hour video conversation via the internet, I couldn't cut anymore. Suzie was so generous with her time - as she has been since the day we met - so I hope you enjoy this intriguing conversation and may it help give you some hope in your life, if you ever need it. "....a perfect example of what not to do if someone is having suicidal thoughts." That's quite a strong statement from Dr. Donna Fargason who returns today to talk about her professional concerns about - and personal exposure to - "13 Reasons Why" , a streaming TV series that targets youth and the issue of suicidality. Donna and I only scratched the surface in our dialogue on this most important topic of suicidality. Our conversation touches on some of the concerns we share about how certain societal/cultural influences (such as a seemingly harmless media program) can potentially affect in a harmful way the thoughts and actions of vulnerable young persons - and mature adults as well. This is only one example. After personally viewing the entire program series, Donna realized that she herself has been traumatized by the overtly graphic content of the program. And while the gravity and impact of the graphic content is perhaps more obvious to some, Donna is quite concerned as well about the more insidious messages that are embedded within the program content - and that parents do not seem to know that children and adolescents are viewing this program,  Media is a tool that wields mighty power upon the formation of thoughts and beliefs about ourselves as human persons (many, many times in ways we are not aware of), and can influence our choices of what might be a good (or not so good) next step when we are experiencing challenges and pain in our lives. Being aware of that influence as we make our viewing decisions is a vital component of the process of making well-informed decisions that impact our overall joy, life functioning, and relationships. What we choose to consume through all forms of media can have a powerful effect upon our mental and spiritual health. It's important to have a dialogue about vital issues such as suicide, no doubt. But what is the content, the essence, and the trajectory of that dialogue?  Does it lead ultimately to the dignity and the good of the person? Unfortunately, not all sources of dialogue and information out in the public arena are meaningful, legitimate, or helpful towards the end goal of the ultimate good for the human person - even though these sources may be well-intentioned. Consuming and acting upon information without careful (and prayerful), prudent consideration, and seeking proper help can lead unintentionally toward more harm and heartache. This podcast is far from any sort of definitive collection but it is an intereting episode to listen to. We begin with am interview with the Reverend Jim Hones himeself, then a short glimpse into the church it's self. Then a lengthy phone conversation in which a member discusses finding a breaking point and another member talking her through it and attempting to bring her back into the church. This podcast is meant to be a starting point to peak interest in a history America dealt with. Jones was born in Indiana and started the Peoples Temple there in the 1950s. He later moved the Temple to California in the mid-1960s, and gained notoriety with the move of the Temple's headquarters to San Francisco in the early 1970s. James Warren "Jim" Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was an American cult leader. Jones was the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple, infamous due to the mass murder-suicide in November 1978 of its members in Jonestown, Guyana, the murder of Congressman Leo Ryan, and the ordering of four additional Temple member deaths in Georgetown, the Guyanese capital. Nearly three-hundred children were murdered at Jonestown, almost all of them by cyanide poisoning. Jones died from a gunshot wound to the head; it is suspected his death was a suicide. Jim and Marceline Jones adopted several children of at least partial non-Caucasian ancestry; he referred to the clan as his "rainbow family",[23] and stated: "Integration is a more personal thing with me now. It's a question of my son's future."[24] Jones portrayed the Temple overall as a "rainbow family". The couple adopted three children of Korean-American ancestry: Lew, Suzanne and Stephanie. Jones had been encouraging Temple members to adopt orphans from war ravaged Korea. He had also long been critical of the United States' opposition to communist leader Kim Il-Sung's 1950 invasion of South Korea, calling it the "war of liberation" and stating that "the south is a living example of all that socialism in the north has overcome". In 1954, he and his wife also adopted Agnes Jones, who was partly of Native American descent. Agnes was 11 at the time of her adoption. Suzanne Jones was adopted at the age of six in 1959. In June 1959, the couple had their only biological child, Stephan Gandhi Jones. Two years later, in 1961, the Joneses became the first white couple in Indiana to adopt a black child, James Warren Jones, Jr. The couple also adopted another son, who was white, named Tim. Tim Jones, whose birth mother was a member of the Peoples Temple, was originally named Timothy Glen Tupper. Many parents opt to "redshirt" or delay their child's entrance into kindergarten. This practice is generally seen as beneficial to a child's success in school, but how does it impact their overall happiness later in life? In this episode, I interview Dr. Suzanne Jones, who studied the perceived life satisfaction of adolescent boys who were redshirted at kindergarten compared with those who could have been, but were not.

Where are the jobs? You don't have to look far, when it comes to energy efficiency, says Suzanne Jones, vice president of sales and marketing for the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AES). In fact, filling the void created by retiring baby boomers is a big challenge for the industry. People are needed across the board, especially at utilities, where many boomers stayed for 20 years and are now retiring, she says. Researchers, marketers, energy efficiency program designers, and program implementers are just some of the people needed. AESP offers a website, www.myenergygateway.com, for students interested in these jobs.
