On this episode, George Kyriakis, Sr. Director Business Development and Partnerships at FreshBooks, talks about his experience in partnership-based business development over the last seven years, a time spent learning from both successes and failures. George emphasizes the importance of securing buy-in from executives for partnership strategies. His lessons in this area stem from past experiences, particularly when he faced resistance from an executive who didn't support his efforts in a previous role. George is a big believer in maintaining focus, and he gives an example of how he streamlined FreshBooks' payment partner list to improve leverage and collaboration. He's found that having too few or too many partners can be a problem, and maintaining two or three strategic partnerships is generally optimal. At one point, FreshBooks capitalized on an acquisition by a partner, demonstrating the importance of being agile and prepared to take advantage of unexpected events. Looking ahead, George considers complementary partnerships and combining efforts between partners for more substantial outcomes. He also weighs the opportunities and threats in the evolving landscape, including economic concerns and shifts in market demand. In this episode of the Energy Transitions Series, our guests unpack the Benefits and challenges of AMI for a developing country like India, which is going through a massive AMI rollout exercise for its 270 million electricity connections. While there will be many benefits to the distribution companies from the adoption of AMI, there will be many unknowns and unforeseen challenges for all stakeholders, including system integrators, OEMs, Utilities, Government and Consumers. With an estimated 20-30% of challenges faced by a utility, unique to them and their customer base, the remaining 70%-80% are common barriers for any utility in any developing country. The benefits and challenges are also linked to the maturity of a Utility, which translates into the volume and frequency of how AMI will be used by the Utility for its Energy Transition like DER, Energy Storage and EV. Digital disruption and transformation are unavoidable in today's digital world. Fueled by the ever-growing and emerging list of next-generation digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics, organisations have no choice but to accept these innovations and utilise them within their operations and ecosystems if they want to remain competitive and succeed. However, as is commonly spoken about in the IT sector, adopting and implementing new technologies is not an 'easy as pie' or smooth sailing process. The Benefits of Time-Series Databases and Opening Up Businesses Digitally The challenges of digital disruption and transformation form the basis of this podcast. Scott Taylor, Principal Consultant at MetaMeta Consulting, speaks with Christian Lutz, Founder, President at Crate.io, and Bernhard Zimmermann, Director Business Development and Partner at Zühlke, to explore the solution: time-series databases. Christian and Bernhard begin by drawing on Crate.io and Zühlke's partnership as a case study example, highlighting the idea of data as the new currency from a digital ecosystem perspective. In particular, Christian lends his expertise on data collection and how we should be using it, sharing the pros and cons he sees from ML and AI models. Following this, the pair detail the business benefits of time-series databases and opening up businesses digitally from a customer portal perspective and a data collection strategy; Bernhard notably explains the data culture challenges for organisations and how to implement a strong data strategy. Final thoughts end on the future of data sharing and what needs to be considered from a security element.
