Written by Andrew Gelderman Played by Reed Lochamy, Will Lochamy, and Sylvia SwayneFor most rounds, there are three questions, and you rank your answers, assigning point values of 5, 3, and 1 each round, depending on your level of confidence. The one you feel best about is your 5-point answer, the one you're just guessing on is your 1-point answer. (For any rounds where the points don't work this way, we'll discuss that during the game.)If you feel certain that you know the answer to all three questions in a typical round, then instead of assigning points of 5, 3 and 1, you can go for 11 points. If you do that and you answer all three questions correctly, you get 11 points (instead of 9). However, if you do that and you miss just one question, you get a 0 for the round. The bonus round question has five possible answers. You get 3 points for every correct answer you submit. Like with going for 11 in typical rounds, though, you can choose to go for 20 in the bonus round (but doing so is risky in the same way that going for 11 in typical rounds is).Have questions about the game or how it works? Please feel free to email those to will@bhammountainradio.com

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.13.528394v1?rss=1 Authors: Asgarkhani, L., Khandakar, I., Pakan, R., Swayne, T. C., Emtage, L. Abstract: Aggregation of mutant Huntingtin protein (mHtt) leads to neuronal cell death and human disease. We investigated the effect of inclusion formation on yeast cells. Previous work indicates that mHtt protein moves both in and out of inclusions, potentially undergoing refolding in the inclusion. However, the sustained influx of unfolded protein into an inclusion leads to a dramatic change from a phase-separated body to an irregular, less soluble form at a threshold inclusion size. Altered morphology was associated with a prion-like seeding that accelerated inclusion growth despite loss of soluble cytoplasmic protein. The structural change abolished exchange of material between the inclusion and the cytosol and resulted in early cell death. Affected cells continued to divide occasionally, giving rise to daughters with a similar phenotype. Most newly born cells were able to reverse the prion-like aggregation, restoring both soluble cytoplasmic protein and a normal inclusion structure. Copy rights belong to original authors. Judicial interpretation In contrast to the other "Reconstruction Amendments", the Thirteenth Amendment was rarely cited in later case law. As historian Amy Dru Stanley summarizes, "beyond a handful of landmark rulings striking down debt peonage, flagrant involuntary servitude, and some instances of race-based violence and discrimination, the Thirteenth Amendment has never been a potent source of rights claims." Black slaves and their descendants United States v Rhodes (1866), one of the first Thirteenth Amendment cases, tested the constitutionality of provisions in the Civil Rights Act of 1866 that granted blacks redress in the federal courts. Kentucky law prohibited blacks from testifying against whites—an arrangement which compromised the ability of Nancy Talbot ("a citizen of the United States of the African race") to reach justice against a white person accused of robbing her. After Talbot attempted to try the case in federal court, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled this federal option unconstitutional. Noah Swayne (a Supreme Court justice sitting on the Kentucky Circuit Court) overturned the Kentucky decision, holding that without the material enforcement provided by the Civil Rights Act, slavery would not truly be abolished. With In Re Turner (1867), Chief Justice Salmon P Chase ordered freedom for Elizabeth Turner, a former slave in Maryland who became indentured to her former master. In Blyew v United States, (1872) the Supreme Court heard another Civil Rights Act case relating to federal courts in Kentucky. John Blyew and George Kennard were white men visiting the cabin of a black family, the Fosters. Blyew apparently became angry with sixteen-year-old Richard Foster and hit him twice in the head with an ax. Blyew and Kennard killed Richard's parents, Sallie and Jack Foster, and his blind grandmother, Lucy Armstrong. They severely wounded the Fosters' two young daughters. Kentucky courts would not allow the Foster children to testify against Blyew and Kennard. Federal courts, authorized by the Civil Rights Act, found Blyew and Kennard guilty of murder. The Supreme Court ruled that the Foster children did not have standing in federal courts because only living people could take advantage of the Act. In doing so, the Courts effectively ruled that the Thirteenth Amendment did not permit a federal remedy in murder cases. Swayne and Joseph P Bradley dissented, maintaining that in order to have meaningful effects, the Thirteenth Amendment would have to address systemic racial oppression.
Jenni Swayne, a former teacher, discusses her work as a women’s rights activist her recent arrest for stickering in Newport, Gwent (Wales). Elaborating how the police arrested her on suspicion of having committed a “hate crime” (a public order offence) after which time she was held in a cell for ten hours, Swayne details the treatment by the police to in include the police interrogation and the limitations put upon her until the bail is over in in a month’s time when she will learn if she will be charged, cautioned or if the case will be dropped entirely. One of the stickers she posted reads: “No child is born in the wrong body: Humans never change sex.” Another found by the police who searched her house removing several sheets of stickers reads: “3+ women killed by men each week: Domestic violence kills.” As Harry Miller puts it, Swayne is being put through a system where “the process becomes the punishment.” Get full access to Savage Minds at savageminds.substack.com/subscribe

How does society in Europe view ghosts of WWII? Where do ghost tanks still roam the streets years after WWII? Are there ghost planes still roaming the skies from the war? To listen to part two of our interview, you need to be a Grave Keeper (supporter of the show). You can do this by signing up on our Patreon Page here: http://www.patreon.com/thegravetalks Who are the ghosts of WWII? WWII was one of the most defining times of the last century. Countless lives lost, families destroyed and mental sanity pushed beyond its limits. With so much mental anguish expelled in such a short period of time, is it any wonder that the areas physically affected by this time in history remain a hotbed for paranormal activity. Are there still soldiers spirits out there, unaware that the war has ended. Are the ghosts of WWII seen by the living today simply a residual replay of this horrific time in human history? Who are the ghosts of WWII and what do they want? Are they still fighting a battle, or do the ghosts of WWII have a message for the living? We discuss this with author Matthew L. Swayne.

Episode 2 has arrived, folks! Today's guests are NFL Players Association Baltimore Chapter Harry Swayne and Vice President Charles Banks. Harry is a 4x Super Bowl Champion. He won back to back Super Bowls with the John Elway led Denver Broncos in 1997 & 1998. Harry signed in Baltimore in 1999 and won his first Super Bowl in 2000 with the Ravens as a Right Tackle and won his second championship with Baltimore as an executive on Ozzie Newsome's staff in 2012. Charles is a retired NFL Running Back who played for the Warren Moon led Houston Oilers in 1986 and the Eric Dickerson led Colts in 1987. Charles is a great friend and one of the best correctional officers I've ever worked beside. Harry and Charles covered a wide range of topics during our talk. They addressed the disconnect between retired players from Baltimore and their Chapter of the Players Association, the benefits that former players can utilize to their advantage, and their initiatives to bring former players from the city of Baltimore back to the PA to help participate in future events. They also speak upon the issues of locker room issues in their playing days and the current NFL locker rooms between staff and players in light of the Black Lives Matter movement. Enjoy!
This week we take a breather from the professional golf schedule and sit down with Alex Swayne, a senior at Clemson University. If you've been struggling with your own game, hearing Alex talk about herself using positive reinforcement is a reminder to all of us about how our emotions and energy can affect our play. Be more like Alex!

Harry Swayne was born in Philadelphia and attended Rutgers University, receiving a B.S. in Sport Management. He received numerous Big East honors and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 7th round of the 1987 NFL draft. After playing defensive line for three years, he made the difficult switch in 1990 to left offensive tackle where he would play for twelve years. Harry spent the next six years as a San Diego Charger, taking them to their first ever World Championship, Super Bowl XXIX in 1994. He would win the next two World Championships with the Denver Broncos. Harry then signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 1999 and won his third World Championship, Super Bowl XXXV. The Miami Dolphins were his final team for the 2001 season after fifteen years in the NFL. After an extensive year of training with the para-church ministry, Athletes in Action, Harry was assigned to the Chicago Bears. He served as Life Coach and Team Chaplain for five years during Head Coach Lovie Smith's tenure. In 2008, Harry returned to the Baltimore Ravens as the Player Development Director, working closely with GM Ozzie Newsome. Harry was tasked with shaping the culture of the team by creating innovative programs and strategically engaging and utilizing partnerships with key influencers. Harry designed, built and executed programs that ensured high potential players performed consistently at the highest level of sport. He created and implemented the Ravens Mentoring Program, which became a sought-after designation for veteran players for 10 years. Additionally, Harry initiated the Ravens Rookie Orientation program which he designed to utilize solution-based research and content driven by qualitative and quantitative data. These and other programs set the Ravens apart. Harry proved that analyzing data in HR was just as profitable as analytics in strategic football. His talent acquisition duties within the personnel department included 90+ face to face interviews in which Harry identified character traits consistent with organizational goals. Harry's narrative reports to the GM, Ozzie Newsome, both helped to forecast workforce planning and inform program changes. During his time with the Ravens, Harry's programs, including his “Bring the Upstairs Down” (BUD) initiative (which educated employees on benefits, insurance grievances, payroll, union matters, 401k, etc.) greatly influenced the culture of the team and the organization. His robust and comprehensive programs are driven by a holistic approach. People perform at high levels when they are situated as teammates, friend, and co-workers invested relationally. Many with knowledge of my programming agree with Troy Vincent, VP NFL Operations, that “Harry's department is the benchmark of Player Engagement.” Harry participated in and won the Wharton School of Executive Education (2012) competition. He led a group of six other NFL franchises and won by utilizing feedback in the milieu as a networking strategy for Career Development. Harry completed his Masters in Human Service Counseling (2018) at Liberty University. After playing defensive line for three years, he made the difficult switch in 1990 to left offensive tackle where he would play for twelve years.Harry spent the next six years as a San Diego Charger, taking them to their first ever World Championship, Super Bowl XXIX in 1994. Voted as the team union representative for four years, Harry was pivotal in identifying unacceptable playing and workplace conditions. He would win the next two World Championships with the Denver Broncos. Harry then signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 1999 and won his third World Championship, Super Bowl XXXV. The Miami Dolphins were his final team for the 2001 season after fifteen years in the NFL.After an extensive year of training with the para-church ministry, Athletes in Action, Harry was assigned to the Chicago Bears. He served as Life Coach and Team Chaplain for five years during Head Coach Lovie Smith’s tenure. Harry’s narrative reports to the GM, Ozzie Newsome, both helped to forecast workforce planning and inform program changes.During his time with the Ravens, Harry’s programs, including his “Bring the Upstairs Down” (BUD) initiative (which educated employees on benefits, insurance grievances, payroll, union matters, 401k, etc.) greatly influenced the culture of the team and the organization. His robust and comprehensive programs are driven by a holistic approach. People perform at high levels when they are situated as teammates, friend, and co-workers invested relationally. Many with knowledge of my programming agree with Troy Vincent, VP NFL Operations, that “Harry’s department is the benchmark of Player Engagement.” Harry participated in and won the Wharton School of Executive Education (2012) competition. He led a group of six other NFL franchises and won by utilizing feedback in the milieu as a networking strategy for Career Development. Harry completed his Masters in Human Service Counseling (2018) at Liberty University. In 2019 Harry received the Senior Certified Professional (2019) designation from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Who are the ghosts of WWII? Swayne. To listen to part two of our interview, you need to be a Grave Keeper (supporter of the show). You can do this by signing up on our Patreon Page here: http://www.patreon.com/thegravetalks

Quotes from the show:“I am a clothes horse by nature and so I have a shoezeum at home and it's almost exclusively in Doc Martens [shoes].” – Steve Swayne“There are different ways of being you rather than the ones, maybe, that you have chosen or that society has chosen for you.” – Steve Swayne“It's very interesting to think about how people perceive others … from how we look and how we dress and you're actually turning [that perception] on its head to share a lesson.” – Syd Finkelstein “As humans, all of us can do what any other human in all of the human race has done, is doing, or has a dream of doing. We are all capable of doing all of it.” – Steve SwayneOn studying east coast Jewish composers: “I learned a lot of things that I never would have thought to know.” – Steve SwayneOn the appropriateness of telling a story of a community you are not part of: “I have a view of that community that I can only have because I'm not in it and things that might be transparent to other people, I begin to question.” – Steve Swayne“We are not what we present necessarily; because I'm black doesn't mean I can only do things marked as black … we contain multitudes, all of us.” – Steve Swayne“I feel like we are in an era now where with this idea of having the nerve, the audacity to speak for some other group that you are not part of is really looked down upon.” – Syd Finkelstein “I want to be about the business of increasing the circle of we and decreasing the circle of they.” – Steve SwayneOn elitism in general culture: “There's a thing about whatever is considered popular by the masses that somehow gets denigrated … we seem to have all these rules in place for what's acceptable, for what's good culturally and we don't know who wrote those rules.” – Syd FinkelsteinOn Steven Sondheim's style of composing: “The way he conveys the life of a character through his choice of notes is very much the way certain opera composers do that type of work.” – Steve SwayneStay Connected: Syd FinkelsteinWebsite: http://thesydcast.comLinkedIn: Sydney FinkelsteinTwitter: @sydfinkelsteinFacebook: The SydcastInstagram: The Sydcast Steve SwainInstagram: @dr._kiltmartensWebsite: Dartmouth College - The Montgomery Fellows ProgramSubscribe to our podcast + download each episode on Stitcher, iTunes, and Spotify. THE PODCAST IS BACK!! AvGeek Nation, I am so stoked to rev the podcast back up and bring you a refreshed AvGeek Chronicles. After a break in the podcast due to personal and family reasons, it's time to bring it back. I know you all have loved following all the episodes, so I'm ready to be back with a refreshed vision. I do this podcast for you all and I can't wait to hear what you all have to say. This week on the podcast we are coming back with a bang! I am so happy to have Sam Eckholm and Swayne Martin on for a groupisode, to kick things back off. If you don't know these two now, you sure will very soon with all the work they're doing. Sam Eckholm is the Public Affairs Officer for the United States Air Force F22 Raptor Demonstration Team. As the Public Affairs Officer, Sam is responsible for photography & videography while also managing community & media outreach for the team. Sam's documentation and creative media has already made a mark inside the Air Force. Sam's work and passion has increased the F22 Demonstration Team's Instagram following by almost 90,000 fans, in less than one season. Sam is changing the script on not only on what it means to be a Public Affairs Officer in the military, but what it means to be apart of a military aviation demonstration team. Sam know's what it takes to grab the attention of people around the world and he's only getting started. Swayne Martin is currently an Airline Pilot flying for Envoy Air. Wildly known for his creative work on YouTube, Instagram and Boldmethod, Swayne is giving the world the inside look at what it actually means to be a Professional Pilot. At a young age, Swayne couldn't find any inspiration online specifically around what it took to become an airline pilot. PART 2 - AVAILABLE TO GRAVE KEEPERS ONLY - LISTEN HERE In part two of our interview, available only to Grave Keepers, we discuss: What kinds of objects seem to hold Ghosts of WWII? Swayne.

The Music Division of the Library of Congress and the American Musicological Society, in joint partnership, presented another in a series of lectures highlighting musicological research conducted in the division's collections. Steven Swayne of Dartmouth College discussed William Schuman's Seventh Symphony. Commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 1954, the symphony premiered in the fall of 1960, nearly five years after the 75th anniversary of the BSO. Schuman's correspondence unexpectedly reveals that much of the Seventh Symphony was written not for Boston, but for the Philadelphia Orchestra. Only when the Philadelphia commission collapsed did Schuman repurpose the already-composed music for Boston. Still more intriguing is the presence of a 12-tone row as the opening subject of the first movement. While others have noted the presence of 12-tone harmonies in Schuman's music, to Swayne's knowledge no one has ever remarked on this unusual appearance of a 12-tone melody. The manuscript of the Seventh Symphony in the Koussevitzky Collection of the Library of Congress solves the puzzle about the Philadelphia-Boston connection. Speaker Biography: Steven Swayne teaches courses in music from 1700 to the present day, opera, American musical theater, Russian music and American music at Dartmouth College. He has received fellowships from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. His articles have appeared in The Sondheim Review, the Journal of the Royal Musical Association, American Music, Studies in Musical Theatre, the Indiana Theory Review and The Musical Quarterly. He has contributed to commentaries on Sondheim developed by the John F. Kennedy Center and the Chicago Lyric Opera. His first book, "How Sondheim Found His Sound," was published in 2005. He is an accomplished concert pianist, with four nationally distributed recordings currently in release and a performance with the San Francisco Symphony and Michael Tilson Thomas to his credit. In addition to his work at Dartmouth, he has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and at the University of California at Berkeley.
