Curta e comente. Bons sons e até a próxima pessoal !#rock #ledzeppelin

1975, Led Zeppelin were at the height of their rock god power. They'd made 5 albums that sold off the charts, especially in the US where they enjoyed the fruits of their labors on the Sunset Strip. They were a top touring act that could fill arenas and stadiums with four of the best individual musicians in any band. They founded Swan Song Records to not only handle their own records but even signed acts like Bad Company and Detective to the label. So after some time off they headed back to Headley Grange where they'd recorded for Led Zeppelin III & IV in early 1974 to lay down some tracks. The results were among the heaviest, funkiest, longest, most epic and groovy songs in the Zeppelin catalog. But because they made more than 1 LP's worth of material, they decided to dust off a few tunes from previous sessions, rework them and fit them all into what would be Zeppelin's only double album, Physical Graffiti. The first album to ship platinum in the US, it would eventually go 16x platinum (but only 2x platinum in the UK). Hitting #1 on both sides of the Atlantic, it's too epic for just one episode. So we've divided into LP/CD one on this episode and UAWIL 219 will go in depth on LP/CD 2. The first disc of Physical Graffiti is an extraordinary album on its own. From the riff & groove of Custard Pie, maybe the best opening track on an LZ album, to the epic and otherworldly Kashmir the boys flex and stretch like they hadn't before. Jimmy Page is at his best laying down killer slide on In My Time Of Dying, riffing out on The Rover and leading the boys in jams on Trampled Under Foot. John Paul Jones is killer on the bass and the clavinet which give different textures to the tunes. John Bonham is at his thunderous best while his mate Robert Plant still had the range and emotion that made him a legend. Going track x track and watching some old Zeppelin footage from Earls Court 1975 and Knebworth 1979 reminds us that we missed one of the greatest bands to walk the Earth and they should be celebrated. What the Riff?!?
1975 - May: David Bowie "Young Americans"

What the Riff?!?

David Bowie would leave the glam rock genre of his previous albums for a more soulful sound with his ninth studio album, Young Americans.  This album features blue eyed soul, or what Bowie would refer to as "plastic soul."  David Bowie moved to the United States in 1974 during a time when tax concerns were driving many artists out of the UK.  He was living in New York City at the time, and starting production on the album in Philadelphia where he worked with guitarist Carlos Alomar.  A funk guitarist, Alomar had worked as a session musician at the Apollo Theater and would become a collaborator and band leader for Bowie over the next decade.  In addition to Carlos Alomar, Bowie worked on this album with a number of artists including Robin Clark, Ava Cherry, saxophonist David Sanborn, and a new musician named Luther Vandross. He would also collaborate on this album with ex-Beatle John Lennon who was recording in New York at the same time as Bowie's recording moved there.  Bowie and Lennon had met previously at a party hosted by Elizabeth Taylor.  Lennon collaborated with Bowie during his "lost weekend" period.Young Americans contains elements of soul, funk, and R&B, and was a deliberate attempt to garner more success in the U.S. market.  It certainly achieved this result, though critics would deliver mixed reviews.  The transition from glam rock to blue-eyed soul would not be one which all fans embraced, but David Bowie would follow his own creative muse.  It would not be the last time we would see a significant stylistic change from Bowie.  It was nevertheless a commercial success, going to number 9 on the US albums chart, remaining on the charts for almost a year.Rob brings us this funky example of “plastic soul.” Young AmericansThe title track was recorded in Philadelphia, and hit number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, Bowie's second-highest chart success to this date.  Then unknown singer Luther Vandross conceived the backing vocal arrangement.  The song provides impressions of American life through the eyes of an English man.  David Sanborn provides the saxophone work.Across the UniverseThis cover of the Beatles song also found collaboration with Beatles' alumnus John Lennon.  Backing vocals and guitar are provided by Lennon, who considered this song a better version than his own.  Critics tend to disagree, as reviews on the Bowie version were primarily negative.FascinationThis track began as a jam by Luther Vandross entitled “Funky Music (Is a Part of Me)” which was performed before the Bowie concerts in 1974.  When Vandross was retained from the “Diamond Dogs” tour, the two collaborated to create the song “Fascination.”  The song was an homage to the Philadelphia funk sound.FameThis single hit number 1 on the US charts, the first Bowie song to do so.  Composed by Bowie, Alomar, and Lennon, the high backing “Fame” vocalizations are provided by John Lennon.  Bowie would describe it as a “nasty, angry” song directed at management with which he had previous issues. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Ease On Down the Road by Consumer Rapport (from the motion picture The Wiz)A soulful take on The Wizard of Oz featured Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow. STAFF PICKS:Judy Mae by Boomer Castleman Wayne initiates the staff picks with a controversial song that went to number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The lyrics tell of a father to a 17 year-old girl who marries a woman half his age.  When an affair ensures between the stepmother and the daughter, the father dies of an accident shortly thereafter.  It feels like a racier version of “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”Long Haired Country Boy by the Charlie Daniels BandBrian brings us a song about a guy with a very passive attitude about life. “I ain't asking for nobody for nuthin' that I can't get on my own.  If you don't like the way I'm livin' you just leave this long-haired country boy alone.” It was off the second album from the CDB entitled “Fire on the Mountain.”When Will I Be Loved by Linda Ronstadt Bruce features Ronstadt doing a cover originally from the Everly Brothers in 1960.  While the original peaked at number 8, Ronstadt's cover would go to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song is a vocal trio between Ronstadt, Kenny Edwards, and Andrew Gold. Trampled Under Foot by Led Zeppelin Rob finishes the staff picks with a song John Paul Jones claims was inspired by Stevie Wonder's “Superstition.”  The lyrics were inspired by blues artist Robert Johnson's “Terraplane Blues” from  1936.  A Terraplane was a classic car that serves as a not-so-subtle source for sexual innuendo.  It is off the band's double album, “Physical Graffiti.”  COMEDY TRACK:Bertha Butt Boogie by The Jimmy Castor Bunch This funk novelty track went to number 16 on the US pop chart and number 22 on the US R&B chart.

This soulful, rockin' female, originally from Chicago, has had a passion for singing throughout her entire life. Growing up in a household that was rich in music, her influences were widely varied from artists such as Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt, The Pointer Sisters, Eva Cassidy, Etta James, Joss Stone, Jason Mraz, Black Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera, and many more.Despite these modern musical influences, Lauren was classically trained throughout most of her early life. She began classical piano lessons at the age of 8, was an active member of several choirs and began taking classical voice lessons when she began high school. She eventually took her love of singing to the Quad Cities and obtained a bachelors degree in music with an emphasis on voice at Augustana College. Initially she planned on becoming an opera singer, but quickly realized that pop and soul music were more in her wheelhouse. Having had a passion for psychology in addition to music, Lauren decided to continue onto The University of Kansas to complete her masters in music therapy. She now works on the pediatric unit and pediatric intensive care unit at The University of Kansas Hospital in KCMO, as well as at Gillis Center as a music therapist.Having listened to those around her, telling her that music and the arts were difficult fields to have a career in, Lauren followed the safe path in life, making sure she had a "back-up" plan while working on her music and performing. However, now with a steady job, she has found that passions don't die easily, and despite her love of working as a music therapist, she is ready to take on the challenge of making music performance her career. After officially completing her masters in 2012, Lauren began performing solo gigs around the greater Kansas City area at venues such as Bar Louie, Jerry's Bait Shop and Main Street Cafe. She quickly realized that she could only go so far in the business while playing solo gigs, so she began attending jam sessions at venues such as Freddy T's, Llewelyn's Pub and Westport Saloon. It was at such jams that she met Kristopher Schnebelen (previously from Trampled Under Foot, who were first place in the 2008 International Blues Challenge, 2014 Blues Music Awards Album of the year and Blues Blast 2011 and 2012 award for Band of the Year), Dylan Reiter (from Brandon Miller Band) and Adam Stuber, who helped her complete her first first official EP, “Do & Hope”, was released in August 2014. Fittingly, this EP was named after the unofficial motto of Lauren's mother's side of the family, who often remarked, “Just do it and hope it turns out okay.”Lauren released her first, full-length CD titled, "Truly Me" in August 2015. And two singles, recorded in the legendary Ocean Way Nashville Studios, a year after this. She moved to Nashville in February 2017 to continue her music career.

Premillennialists connect the “Times of the Gentiles” (Lk 21:24) with the “fullness of the Gentiles” (Rom 11:25), and claim that both texts will only be fulfilled after “all Israel” has accepted Jesus as Messiah, returned to the land of Israel, and rebuilt the temple. They see the “times of the Gentiles” as being the whole period from AD 70 until that future restoration (now almost two thousand years). We show from Lamentations 1:15; Revelation 11:2; Daniel 7:7-25; Ezekiel 30:3; Jeremiah 27:7; the Dead Sea Scrolls; the Apocrypha; Yosippon; and Enoch that the two phrases “tread under foot” and “times of the Gentiles” are referring to the Roman invasion and conquest of the Jews in AD 67-70. We also explain what the “fullness of the Gentiles” means in Romans 11:25.
