Lara Stalder begann 1999 mit dem Eishockeysport beim HC Luzern und spielte bis 2011 für dessen männliche Nachwuchsteams, unter anderem in der Saison 2009/10 für die U-17-Junioren des Vereins in der höchsten Nachwuchsliga der Schweiz. Parallel zu ihren Einsätzen spielte sie ab 2007 in der höchsten Fraueneishockey-Liga der Schweiz, der heutigen Swiss Women's Hockey League A. 2013 gewann Stalder mit den ZSC Lions ihren ersten Schweizer Meistertitel.2013 beendete sie die Wirtschaftsmittelschule in Luzern und erhielt ein Stipendium für die University of Minnesota Duluth, wo sie seither ein Betriebswirtschaftsstudium absolviert. Parallel spielte sie seither für die UMD Bulldogs in der Western Collegiate Hockey Association.Dabei gehörte sie schnell zu den Leistungsträgern ihres Teams und erhielt mehrfach persönliche Auszeichnungen.2014 folgte die Teilnahme an den Olympischen Winterspielen in Sotschi, bei denen sie mit dem Nationalteam die Bronzemedaille gewann.Zwischenzeitlich in Schweden angekommen, wechselte sie 2019 vom Linköpings HC zu Brynäs IF. Dort erzielte sie 2020 ihr 100. Tor in der SDHL und führte zu diesem Zeitpunkt die Topscorerliste der Liga deutlich an. Am Ende der regulären Saison 2019/20 war Stalder mit 71 Punkten in 36 Spielen die Topscorerin der SDHL und wurde Anfang 2020 als erste Frau mit dem Guldhjälmen, der MVP-Auszeichnung der SDHL, ausgezeichnet.Lara erhielt im Rahmen der Swiss Ice Hockey Awards 2021 die Auszeichnung zur «Woman of the Year». Kuhlman was claimed off waivers from the Boston Bruins last week, so he talks about the whirlwind it has been to get to Seattle and get acclimated to his new team and city. Hockey continues into April. For the third year in a row. This week it’s a crossover episode between the News Tribune’s two podcasts. Sports reporter Matt Wellens, host of the Bulldogs Insider Podcast, joins fellow reporters Christa Lawler and Brady Slater along with KDAL radio guest Bruce Ciskie for a tournament primer as the UMD Bulldogs make a run in their third consecutive NCAA Frozen Four. We talk about the four teams in the tournament, the secret to UMD and the NCHC’s success in the postseason, and what the chances are the defending champs win it all in Buffalo, N.Y.
The UMD Bulldogs are once again headed to the Frozen Four. We sat down with senior wing and captain Karson Kuhlman of Esko and senior center Jared Thomas of Hermantown to talk about the tournament, as well as what it's like to play for the team you grew up watching. The Frozen Four begins Thursday, April 5, 2018 in St. Paul.
