Hola a todos. Continuamos las meditaciones de las diferentes tradiciones con la meditación Vipassana de la tradición budista de Birmania. Concretamente vamos a realizar la meditación explicada por el Sr. Goenka, de esta tradición, que nos habla de la importancia de entender y observar las sensaciones para llegar a la experiencia de la ecuanimidad y la impermanencia. La ecuanimidad al daros cuenta de que toda sensación es igual, placer, dolor, frio, calor, se reducen a una vibración más o menos intensa, de tal manera que podamos comprender que las distinciones que hacemos entre una u otra sensación es sólo un juicio de valor que aplicamos desde nuestras creencias o convicciones. Por otro lado, experimentamos también la impermanencia de todo, el observar que ninguna sensación, por intensa que sea, perdura. Todo pasa y todo llega, para de nuevo volver a pasar. La meditación Vipassana se suele practicar durante 10 días en un retiro dedicado exclusivamente a meditar y estar en silencio. Como desde aquí no es posible realizar tal práctica, vamos unicamente a hacer una pequeña meditación tal como se explica que es la meditación Vipasana, pero durante una hora. Para algunos puede parecer un poco larga, pero teniendo en cuenta que esta meditación suele practicarse durante 10 días seguidos, una hora no es nada. Vos animo a que la hagáis hasta el final, pues aunque cueste un poco, todo esfuerzo y voluntad invertida en meditar y estar atentos y conscientes de nosotros mismos, independientemente de como haya salido la meditación, tiene muchas ventajas y los resultados no se hacen esperar. Además, aunque sólo estemos una hora haciendo la práctica, igualmente podemos llegar a percibir sensaciones cada vez más sutiles y agudizar nuestra atención hasta llegar a comprender la naturaleza de las sensaciones y de la realidad: la impermanencia y por tanto integrar en nuestro interior, poco a poco, la virtud budista, e universal, de la Ecuanimidad. In the Spirit of the Buddha an interview with Paul R. and Susan K. Fleischman. Vipasana teachers in the tradition of S.N. Goenka, Susan K. And Paul R. Fleischman have been walking on the path of Dhamma for many decades. Paul has published various titles relating to the teachings of the Buddha and Vipassana meditation. Paul's work often bridges his experience as a seeker and meditator and his professional background in science—psychology, biology, and medicine. The topic of this Pariyatti Presents... event of February 27 is a book that Susan and Paul have worked on together. It is a collection of prose poems entitled In the Spirit of the Buddha. In the Spirit of the Buddha is aimed to inspire, rather than to represent the full span of the teaching of the Buddha. All compositions combine the Buddha's thoughts with contemporary phrasing. They cannot be considered direct quotes from the Pāli Canon, because the authors have worked only with English language translations and combined similar passages, or modified the language for readability. At the same time, the authors emphasize that these words are not original to them, because they are in the spirit of the Buddha. They are sparks from the campfire that continue to glow in the dark. This week, The Musafir Stories speaks to MSN Karthik - a traveller, a film maker and a youtuber!   Today's destination: Bodhgaya, Bihar!  Nearest Airport: Gaya Airport or Patna Airport  Nearest Railway Station: Gaya Junction  Prerequisites - Just leave your worries home!  Packing - Nothing unusual!  Time of the year - Best to travel when the festive season is upon us, important festivals being Buddha Poornima (May) or Kalchakra puja (Oct-Nov) or other world healing pujas (watch for them in the calendar)  Length of the itinerary: 3-4 days   Itinerary Highlights:   Karthik begins the journey by explaining the significance of Bodhgaya, the home of Buddhism. Here is where Prince Siddhartha found enlightenment after traveling all the way from Lumbini, present day Nepal.   Karthik enlightens us about the Bodhi vriksha or Bodhi tree, it's history and importance. We talk more about the timeline of the Mahabodhi temple - one of the most important structures in Bodhgaya which is over 2000 years old, how it was patronized by Ashoka, plundered by foreign invaders, left in ruins and finally discovered again in the 19th century.   The temple is a beautiful structure, that lies in a sprawling complex with over a thousand stupas, a number of other temples and statues of the Buddha. I did a number of 10 day Vipasana Meditation Retreats where basically all you can do for fifteen hours a day is sit there and meditate. No looking at each other, no physical contact. Men and women are separate. Really just very focused effort. As long as you're breathing, you need to be mindful. That's really all there is to it because its one of those things that's like, if you're not being mindful then, what else are you doing? Being mindful is washing the dishes and being aware that you're washing the dishes. It's listening to your spouse and listening to your spouse and breathing and being aware of what's happening in your immediate environment. Be patient, because like anything else, with practice comes one new level of understanding and then the next level and then the next level and just be ok with where you are now and know that there's not a destination. It's not to get anywhere other than to be present, to be more loving, or whatever it is that is your current focus. It's to amplify who you already are.
