He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Purdue University. Jack later went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management at Pepperdine University. After graduating from Purdue University, Jack worked for a brief period at General Motors. However, Jack felt the call of his country and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant. Jack then went off to flight training to become a Marine Aviator. Jack’s tenacity and courage were quickly demonstrated as a combat aviator in Vietnam. Arriving in November 1968, Jack flew over 600 combat missions. A highly decorated veteran, Jack is the recipient of four Distinguished Flying Crosses, 33 Air Medals, Navy Commendation Medal (with combat V), a host of campaign medals and, most recently, the Legion of Merit for Service to His Country. Returning from Vietnam, Jack attended the United States Naval Test Pilot School, testing aircraft for the United States military. Subsequently, he was the aide-de-camp for a Two Star General. He left active duty as a Marine Captain in 1977. Jack remained active in the service of his country by staying in the Marine Corps Reserves and achieved the rank of Colonel. He was called back to active duty for Desert Shield where he served as a Harrier Instructor Pilot. Jack continued to play an important role in the defense of his country as a key person in the Boeing Company (previously McDonnell Douglas). Jack became a test pilot at Boeing Company in January 1978. He tested virtually every type of U.S. fighter aircraft as well as two Russian fighters, accumulating over 10,000 flight hours. He is also the nation’s most experienced VSTOL pilot. In January 2004, he retired from his position as Chief Pilot-Production Test with Boeing Company where he was responsible for all production activities. Jack is actively involved in his church where he is a deacon. He was the parliamentarian for the Second Congressional District Caucus in 1996 and 2008. He is also a member of the following organizations: V.F.W.; American Legion; National Aeronautical Association; Association of Naval Aviation; Marine Corps League; Vietnam Veterans; National Association of Parliamentarians; and The Society of Experimental Test Pilots. Jack was also on the Boeing Management Club Board of Directors. He was the Chief Test Pilot for Production at the Boeing Company from 1996 until 2004. Jack was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002. He served as president of the largest freshman class in the history of the state of Missouri. Today's special guest, Adam Finnegan, was in the 8th grade when he received a vaccine for HepB, which resulted in various neurological disorders he still suffers from today. Congressional hearings confirmed the vaccine was having adverse effects on children. He is also personally affected by Lyme disease and its co-infections. His personal experience resulted in a lifelong interest in the science behind the creation of antigens, or the toxins introduced by vaccines into one's body to create an immune response.  He found that before the advent of DNA and mRNA technology, much of the discoveries about antigens were related to the creation of stealth biological weapons by the Nazis during World War II, and one scientist in particular, Erich Traub. Traub would eventually come under the auspices of the U.S. government because of his knowledge on viruses and bacterial diseases and become a pawn in the Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union in the weaponization of his research.  His book, The The Sleeper Agent, seeks to educate the public about the reality of bioengineering and its link to biological warfare conducted on unsuspecting populations in developing countries even today. Lyme disease and its co-infections, for insistence, actually can be linked to Traub's research. On a larger scale, the author also links the creation of antigens used in a multitude of required vaccines as creating “immune exhaustion” in the body, thus leading to the onset of chronic illnesses such as cancer and various neurological problems. The Sleeper Agent uncovers many surprising secrets including how these same advances are unleashing unforeseen adverse health effects on unsuspecting populations, as well as giving rise to chronic diseases and death.

We survived a global pandemic, but did we take away the lessons we needed about emergency preparedness? Trust for America's Health recently released their annual report called “Ready or Not: Protecting the Public's Health from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism”, which measures emergency preparedness by state. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are categorized as high performing, but the report says many other states are not ready to face things like extreme weather, wildfires, or a new disease. Key Findings This research involving multiple LLMs indicates that biological weapon attack planning currently lies beyond the capability frontier of LLMs as assistive tools. The authors found no statistically significant difference in the viability of plans generated with or without LLM assistance. This research did not measure the distance between the existing LLM capability frontier and the knowledge needed for biological weapon attack planning. Given the rapid evolution of AI, it is prudent to monitor future developments in LLM technology and the potential risks associated with its application to biological weapon attack planning. Although the authors identified what they term unfortunate outputs from LLMs (in the form of problematic responses to prompts), these outputs generally mirror information readily available on the internet, suggesting that LLMs do not substantially increase the risks associated with biological weapon attack planning. To enhance possible future research, the authors would aim to increase the sensitivity of these tests by expanding the number of LLMs tested, involving more researchers, and removing unhelpful sources of variability in the testing process. Those efforts will help ensure a more accurate assessment of potential risks and offer a proactive way to manage the evolving measure-countermeasure dynamic. Good Day and welcome to IAQ Radio+ episode 715 this week we welcome Dr. Gigi Kwik Gronvall, and Dr. Richard Bruns to discuss the recently developed Model State Indoor Air Quality Act. Gigi Kwik Gronvall, PhD During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the Center's ongoing efforts to track the development and marketing of molecular and antigen tests and serology tests, as well as the development of national strategies for COVID-19 serology (antibody) tests and SARS-CoV-2 serosurveys in the United States. She leads work on improving indoor air quality to reduce pathogen transmission, including guidance for K-12 schools, and is a public health advisor to the Baltimore City Public School system. She also has written about the scientific response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contested origin of SARS-CoV-2, and the implications for national and international security. Dr. Gronvall is the author of Synthetic Biology: Safety, Security, and Promise. In the book, she describes what can be done to minimize technical and social risks and maximize the benefits of synthetic biology, focusing on biosecurity, biosafety, ethics, and US national competitiveness—important sectors of national security. Dr. Gronvall is also the author of Preparing for Bioterrorism: The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation's Leadership in Biosecurity. Through her description of major grants that represented the foundation's investments in civilian preparedness, public health law, law enforcement, air filtering in buildings, influenza preparedness, and business preparedness, she constructed, for a nontechnical audience, a chronicle of early gains in US efforts to confront the threat of bioterrorism. Dr. Gronvall is a member of the Department of State's International Security Advisory Board, which provides advice about arms control, disarmament, nonproliferation, and national security aspects of emerging technologies. She is a member of the Novel and Exceptional Technology and Research Advisory Committee (NExTRAC), which provides recommendations to the Director of the National Institutes of Health and is a public forum for the discussion of the scientific, safety, and ethical issues associated with emerging biotechnologies. As of 2023, she is a member of the National Academies' Forum on Microbial Threats. From 2010 to 2020, Dr. Gronvall was a member of the Threat Reduction Advisory Committee, which provided the Secretary of Defense with independent advice and recommendations on reducing the risk to the United States, its military forces, and its allies and partners posed by nuclear, biological, chemical, and conventional threats. During 2014-2015, she led a preparatory group that examined the US government response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa as a case study for the Department of Defense's strategic role in health security and made recommendations for future Department of Defense actions in response to disease outbreaks. She served as the Science Advisor for the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism from April 2009 until the Commission ended in February 2010. She has testified before Congress about the safety and security of high-containment biological laboratories in the United States and served on several task forces related to laboratory and pathogen security. Dr. Gronvall has investigated and presented policy recommendations on the governance of science to the Biological Weapons Convention in Geneva, Switzerland. In addition to being a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dr. Gronvall is an Associate Editor of the journal Health Security (formerly Biosecurity and Bioterrorism). She is a founding member of the Center. Prior to joining the faculty, she worked at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Civilian Biodefense Strategies. She was a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associate at the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases in Fort Detrick, Maryland. Dr. Gronvall received a PhD from Johns Hopkins University for work on T-cell receptor/MHC I interactions and worked as a protein chemist at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She received a BS in biology from Indiana University, Bloomington. Richard Bruns, PhD PhD Clemson University 2012 MS Clemson University 2009 BS Western Carolina University 2004 Particular research interests are using cost-benefit analysis to make the world's preparations for pandemics and emerging biological risks as effective as possible; and expanding the use of QALYs to better measure a variety of life states and social conditions, so that cost-benefit analysis can include and properly account for all expected side effects of public policies. Previously, Richard was a Senior Economist at the Food and Drug Administration, doing cost-benefit modeling of many FDA regulations and actions, including the Intentional Adulteration rule designed to harden food production facilities against terrorist attacks, the PHO GRAS determination aka ‘trans fat ban', and a variety of other rules relating to food and medical devices. Richard also did preliminary modeling on FDA's upcoming Nicotine Product Standard, a de facto ban on cigarettes that would cause many significant effects on public health and safety, as well as research to quantify and monetize the marginal per-unit effects of a variety of food contaminants, such as mycological toxins and arsenic in rice.
