No 100 dudes aren't beating 1 Gorilla, you're wild for thinking otherwise. Anyway, did you get your hands on a Switch 2 preorder? Cause if you did you may have avoided the chaos. EA announced a big shakeup, cancelled games, and is bringing paid season pass to FC 25. Plus what is Call of Duty's obsession with the ganja? We're back with the second half of our talk about 1998's BLADE. Jay Kreiger from the Genre Haze podcast is back with Mike and Devaughn to talk all things Daywalker. We talk about why Wesley Snipes was such an inspired choice to play the character and how he made it his own. On the other hand, the hero is only as good as the villain they go up against, and Stephen Dorff absolutely eats as Blade's adversary Deacon Frost. Wouldn't it have been great to keep Deacon around for a some sequels and buck the comic book movie trend of killing of the bad guy? Plus, we talk the Blade/Whistler chemistry, and how this hints at where actions movies will go in just a year when The Matrix hits the screen and goes even further with blending genres. It's time for some superheroics, so strap on your shades and best black trench coat, because it's all about BLADE.
Monster Dogs Morning Monster Cafe with Steve Silver (Episode 958) They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I agree, especially if hot dogs are involved. Steve Silver, Chicago's legendary lover, fighter, doorman, and raconteur, joined me at the Morning Monster Cafe (Monster Dogs food truck) outside Cobra Lounge (235 N. Ashland). I had the Daywalker to get my day started the right way. It's a monster, but in the best possible way: A hot dog (or breakfast sausage) nestled in a French toast New England roll topped with bacon, blueberry jam, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and a sweet cereal milk mustard. Joining us for the chat is a returning favorite, Chef Jason Gilmore. Besides being the chef at Cobra Lounge, his vision and love for hot dogs led him to run the Monster Dogs food truck. It's bedtime for suckheads in the first part of our double episode on 1998's horror and superhero hybrid, BLADE. Wesley Snipes steps into a role he seemed born to play as the vampire killing "Daywalker" in an R-rated romp that owed just as much to martial arts and gun-fu films as it did comics. The end result was a smart, violent, over the top bloody thrill ride that was world's ahead of the campy histrionics that marked so much of the superhero fare that made its way into theaters at the time. The global success of BLADE made it possible to bring the X-Men to the silver screen just two years later and Sam Raimi's genre defining Spider-Man two years after that. The Blade game trailer reaction has been almost universally positive, but the question remains is this an Xbox exclusive or not? Marvel's Blade game is being made by Arkane Lyon but there has been no mention of Xbox or Xbox Game Pass. The official Xbox twitter account finally said something but we still don't have a clear answer. I posted my own poll about the Blade Xbox exclusive question and the results were pretty mixed. I also want to look at the various theories about what is going on with this game and the Xbox ownership. In Marvel's Blade, Eric Brooks is the legendary Daywalker, half-man, half-vampire torn between the warm society of the living and the rushing power of the undead. From Bethesda and Arkane Lyon, the studio that brought you Dishonored and “DEATHLOOP”, Marvel's Blade is a mature, single-player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris, now in development in collaboration with Marvel Games. It's that time of year again for Geoff Keighley to wave his magic Wiimote and give us the gift of new game trailers to drool over for the next few months! Nick and Josh have chosen a couple games showcased during the announcements to discuss at length, and Andy drops a few honorable mentions! Nick's picks: No Rest for the Wicked - From Moon Studios, the award-winning developers of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps comes No Rest for the Wicked, a visceral, precision Action RPG set to reinvent the genre. - Moon Studios (Steam, Xbox, PS5, TBA) Light No Fire - A game about adventure, building, survival and exploration together. Set on a fantasy planet the size of Earth. - Hello Games (Steam, TBA) Josh's picks: Marvel's Blade - In Marvel's Blade, Eric Brooks is the legendary Daywalker, half-man, half-vampire torn between the warm society of the living and the rushing power of the undead. From Bethesda and Arkane Lyon, the studio that brought you Dishonored and “DEATHLOOP”, Marvel's Blade is a mature, single-player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris, now in development in collaboration with Marvel Games. - Arkane Studios (PC, Xbox, TBA) EXODUS - EXODUS was announced at The Game Awards 2023 and is an epic new sci-fi action-adventure role-playing game franchise developed by the team at Archetype Entertainment. Produced by Blur Studio. BECOME THE TRAVELER. - Archetype Entertainment (PC, Xbox, PS5) Honorable mentions: Sega announced it's working on at least 5 remakes, possibly more, and possibly new IP! We aren't holding our breath on that last one, but here's the trailer which contains Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage! Hideo Kojima has announced a new multi-media/new media horror project he's been cooking up with genre enthusiast Jordan Peele! Little is known about the project, but there's likely hints and spoilers for the upcoming game hidden in the trailer as usual! Let us know if you catch anything! Here's the Trailer! Sony Santa Monica hit us over the head with a brand new DLC, free to owners of the game! This one is called God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla. More God of War is always good God of War isn't it? Oh yeah, and it's out already by the time you're reading this! Embark Studios pulled a fast one on us, and dropped THE FINALS Season 1 during The Game Awards! Jump in now, free on your platform of choice! A link to the Steam version is here. From the creators of the humble smash hit Untitled Goose Game, comes a new game Big Walk. House House describes the game as a “Cooperative Online Walker-Talker” Set out with your friends through a wide-open world full of challenges, puzzles, and discoveries. You'll need to work together to find your way around, stay in contact using an assortment of tools and toys, and figure out new ways to communicate when you suddenly find yourself speechless. Adventuring aside, there's plenty of time to just hang out. Sit and watch the sunset, or steal your friend's binoculars and kick them into the ocean. Spending time with friends is the best part of a big walk. A link to the Steam version is here. Lightspeed Studios showed off their project LAST SENTINEL. Set in dystopian Tokyo, this is an open-world action game with a seriously cool trailer. While we don't know much about the game, and haven't seen any gameplay, the trailer sure does look good! What would any game show be without a few Warhammer 40k games? How about the long-awaited Space Marine 2? The game looks awesome from what we've seen so far, and if the first game is any indicator, we'll be romping around in powersuits draining the blood of our foes in religious fervor come Sept, 9th 2024! Mecha Break is another in a series of new mech games we've been seeing lately. It looks faster-paced than Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon, and may be exactly what some mecha lovers need! There was plenty more shown at The Game Awards this year! If you weren't able to catch it live, and would like to see the whole show in it's entirety it's available here! Happy gaming everyone! #thegameawards #tga2023 #gameoftheyear

Legends of Halloween continues with more vampire hunting action, this time coutesy of Marvel Comics! Before Bryan Singer's X-Men (2000), before Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002), and before Ang Lee's Hulk (2003), director Stephen Norrington launched Marvel to the big screen with his blood-drenched take on the daywalking half-vampire Blade. Played by Wesley Snipes, the film also stars Stephen Dorff as the villanous Deacon Frost and Kris Kristofferson as Blade's mentor and armorer, Whistler. The film was a commercial success, spawning two sequels and a TV series, as well as setting up the template for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films to come. With an MCU installment on the way starring Mahershala Ali, we're turning the clocks back 25 years to see if Blade still looks sharp! Spooky threequel season is back and it's time to go iceskating uphill because we're watching Blade: Trinity, the final nail in the Daywalker's cinematic coffin. You would think that Blade vs. Dracula (excuse me, "Drake") would be at the very least dumb fun, but like many mid-2000s superhero movies, it's got plenty of dumb but comes up woefully short on the fun. Have you heard of Blade? He's the scourge of the vampire world and is what they refer to as a "Daywalker" - he has all of their strengths....NONE of their weaknesses. And he's played by Wesley Snipes, have you heard of him? He was one of the bigger action stars of the '90's back when action stars were actually a thing which would draw folks to go to the movies. The lore of Blade and the charisma of Snipes seemed to be an ideal match at the time and twenty-five years ago this month, we saw the release of that first Blade movie (starring Snipes in the titular role) which was directed by Stephen Norrington. It was not only a surprise hit at the box office but it also earned the distinction of being THE first successful feature film adapted by a Marvel Comics property.....and obviously was far from the last. It co-starred Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, and N'Bushe Wright. Four years later came the release of its sequel directed by Oscar-winning genre legend Guillermo Del Toro - both Snipes and Kristofferson returned to be joined by a pretty impressive extended cast including Ron Pearlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus, Luke Goss, and the legendary Donnie Yen. In honor of the 25th Anniversary of this seminal cinema property, what better way to celebrate than a special DOUBLE-FEATURE review of those first two Blade movies!
