Bill gets to dive deep with another entrepreneur who is in the marketing world. She shares her challenges, biggest mistakes, and some of the amazing things she’s grateful for since starting her business four years ago! How did Angela come up with her company name? Well after working in a very fast-paced agency, she realized that everyone on the team was overwhelmed and stressed out. Whenever there was a new client in the pipeline, the team that had the least amount of work would get them, but everyone was relatively busy and maxed out. When Angela decided to start her company, she wanted to do something slightly different. She wanted to provide a high-quality experience for her clients with people who were overwhelmed. This is why she named her company 11outof11 — because they are better than a standard 10-out-of-10 score. Angela wanted to set her business up differently compared to what she experienced in the agency world. She has about 55 subcontractors and works with them on an on-need basis, and has about nine core team members that work with her clients directly.   Interview Links: 11outof11.com Angela-pointon.com Angela on LinkedIn Sponsored by: Eonetwork.org   Resources: Scaling Up Workshop: Interested in attending one of our workshops? In this episode, Charlie and Angela talk about managing the business in the midst of also having to take care of family. Currently in Arkansas to help take care of both sets of parents, they talk about how we sometimes have to shift our priorities for different seasons of life, and how to utilize skills sets across all facets of our lives, especially to help the communities and people that matter most to us. Key Takeaways:[3:15] - In the midst of COVID-19, as well as a rapidly growing and changing business, Charlie and Angela chose to travel to Arkansas to help take care of family. When Angela knew she needed to be there with her parents, they made the decision to come together because Charlie’s dad is also struggling with serious health issues.[8:10] - Charlie and Angela talk about the different motivations behind their decisions, and how it created the scenario for both of them to go together so they could serve as an anchor for each other, not just personally but also navigating the business from a new place.[11:01] - One of their biggest challenges with this transition is navigating and negotiating how they are going to show up to the business and for their families each day, and defining what their general level of success looks like day to day. One of their greatest joint values is priorities, and it’s necessary for those to look a little different in their current situation.[15:50] - Angela talks about some of the lessons she’s learned from her team’s support during this time. They work hard in their business to provide a supportive environment for their teams, and now that is being reciprocated while Charlie and Angela are in a different place (literally and figuratively). [20:00] - Being back in Arkansas has also allowed both Charlie and Angela to reflect on what it was like for them growing up in Ft. Smith and what has (and hasn’t) changed. They talk about the disparity in life outcomes, even within their own families, as well as how the medical system contributes to this disparity not only in Arkansas but across the country.[29:50] - Advocacy has been incredibly important even from the beginning of their relationship, and especially now, as they are navigating something new. Entrepreneurs, executives, and business owners often fall into the trap of applying their current mindset and worldview back against where they started. It’s going to be different; the important thing is to apply the tools and skills that you learned from your business to healthy advocacy for yourself and others.[39:35] - Being back home has been an important reminder to listen - really hear what they are saying and help them get their needs fulfilled. This is incredibly true for any type of provider.[43:15] - It’s easy to lose your “superpowers” when you’re around your family, and let boundaries crumble. To avoid this, apply your GATES (genius, affinities, talents, expertise, strengths) to be of service to your family and your people. It can be a tricky balance to apply these skills, but asking for permission grants the other person the autonomy to accept help. Get alignment on how you can be a part of where they want to go. [52:15] - When life comes in and competing priorities happen, how do you shift what success looks like to be in harmony with the other things that are important in your life? Remember that you are the one who calibrates your priorities. Mentioned in This Episode:Productive FlourishingStart Finishing, by Charlie Gilkey

I spoke with Angela Geddes on Oct 2, 2020 about her life with horses and how she uses intuition in her work as a coach co facilitating with her horses on her land to bring about authentic change in her clients. Angela also speaks about her corporate life before starting her own business and how her health and her daughters lead her to finally listen to her own intuition and take the leap to start her own business. BioAngela Geddes, the sole proprietor of Soul on Fire Coaching and Equine Guided Wellness Center provides a unique experience in her “Coaching from the Barn” model where clients are supported in their own soul connection while being coached in partnership with her herd of horses. Clients are invited to connect in mind, body and spirit through the wisdom of horses and nature. Soul on Fire was established in July 2015 following a variety of life transitions experienced by Angela – a resignation from a long-term corporate career, the sudden loss of her father and niece and a desire to be more present in all areas of life placing physical and emotional health as a top priority while recovering from a burnout. It was born out of a desire to thrive and truly live with a Soul on Fire in order to demonstrate the life that is possible for her two daughters and to be a parent that was present “when her children got off the bus” for the first time ever. Soul on Fire allowed Angela to put her passion for people and lifelong love for horses into an offering like no other where clients experience exceptional transformation. While Soul on Fire Coaching and Equine Guided Wellness Center has evolved over the last five years, the vision remains the same – soul connection and helping clients discover what sets their soul on fire and unfold what is required to transition forward. The services offered by Soul on Fire includes life and/or leadership coaching, reflexology, Indian head massage, guided meditations in nature and/or with the horses, guided nature walks, and business consulting primarily in the field of strategic Human Resources.Angela’s credentials include being a horse owner of 25 years +, a 30 year corporate career with experience in Finance and Human Resources, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Human Resources achieved through the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh Scotland, Certified Co-Active Coach studied through Coach Training Institute (CTI) and a number of equine facilitated learning approaches including the Horse Medicine Leadership Academy (equine guided coach facilitation), Natural Lifemanship (a trauma informed equine program) and EAGALA (mental health and equine specialist approach). When Angela is not supporting her clients to ignite that fire within, you will find her somewhere on the farm with her husband and daughters and cows, the horses or her dogs and you may just find her slugging a log over her shoulder clearing land to make room for more horse and client experiences. There is never a dull moment with a Soul on Fire! You can find Angela at www.angelageddes.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/soulonfirepc.

He says before COVID even hit they had to cancel a “once in a lifetime” trip to Africa because her dad didn’t like the idea. And pretty much every vacation they have ever taken was because her dad strongly suggested it like skiing in Vail and Whistler. Then Damon admits Angela’s dad has actually been paying for these trips, and we start to wonder how Damon thinks he is going to get her to stop being less dependent then they are both still taking Daddy’s money. When Angela comes on, she says her parents are very important to her and she really does value her dad’s opinion. But Angela finally did start getting consumers to pay, and worked her way up in the industry. And then, 15 years into her career, she and several colleagues were sued for illegal debt collection practices by the Federal Trade Commission and the New York State Attorney General. Angela Anderson is a Cash Flow Conduit, Personal Development Coach, and PSYCH-K® Facilitator who leads her life like the Boss she is. To hear Angela Anderson’s take on leadership, listen to her interview as she discusses the importance of planning, how our perception shapes our reality, and the necessity to stop hiding and speak up. Angela Anderson Bio Angela Anderson helps entrepreneurs, coaches, and health & wellness professionals rapidly scale beyond 6 figures, massively scale their cash flow, explode their growth … and have the freedom & abundance to live the life they adore.  With over 20 years in personal development and entrepreneurship in the areas of subconscious mind reprogramming, health & fitness, and business, Angela shows her clients how real change happens in their minds. As a PSYCH-K® Facilitator and former employee at the PSYCH-K® Centre International, and a leader in subconscious reprogramming, Angela teaches how to leverage proven neuroscience using mind management tools. She gives her clients the guide to unlock and transform the vault of self-limiting, self-sabotaging and negative beliefs about money. When Angela is not working with clients from all over the world through the power of the internet, she is living the good life with her husband and two boys in Colorado, nestled at the base of Sangre de Cristo Mountains and overlooking the Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve ... and world traveling. Nicole Walker’s Interview Commentary I really enjoyed this interview with Angela and I hope you did as well. I agree with Angela’s concept of our birth order having an impact on our characteristics. According to Angela, more times than not our circumstances and surroundings have more to do with our leadership style, as we are not often groomed from the positions we innately have to play. I understand this completely because this is how I “fell” into my leadership role growing as the oldest of three children. Survival is our core instinct as humans, consequently we do what we have to do with what is presented to us. When we accept who we are and figure out how to maximize our position, we win! A quote by Toni Morrison reads, “Freeing yourself was one thing; claiming ownership of that freed self was another.” I admire Angela’s experience of growing up internationally, and being immersed in diversity. Not having racism in the forefront of your mind as a person of color is a gift. This experience gives Angela a different perspective of people, which impacts how she views her life experiences. Angela looks at her interactions on a person level as opposed to a race level, which is a very liberating viewpoint. I agree that interactions are individual and speak more to the limitations of each person, which should not be attributed race. Angela’s upbringing allows her to have a neutral viewpoint which is necessary to rise above the stigmatism of racism. When we learn to focus on the behavior while not equating it to our color we avoid classifying ourselves and others by color. A quote by Joni Eareckson Tada reads “Perspective is everything when you are experiencing the challenges of life.” I can relate to Angela’s struggles with accepting feedback, as I experienced the same. When we only desire praise and confirmation from others, it’s hard to be receptive to growth opportunities. Focusing only on receiving accolades blocks the opportunity to learn about areas of improvement. As with Angela, I would beat myself up when things did not go as planned as opposed to learning from the experience and moving on with my new knowledge. It is imperative that we stop viewing failure as negative and embrace the new insight received to grow and expand. When we have pity parties about our failures we are distracting ourselves from moving beyond our failures to reach our goals. The longer we sulk the longer it takes to get where we are supposed to be. A quote by Jack Canfield reads, “I am welcoming, appreciating, and using the feedback I get, as I accept it as a valuable gift.” Nicole Walker’s Takeaway of the Week Angela mentioned the importance of having confidence in ourselves and our decisions. As Angela mentioned, we must speak up and take action if we want to be successful. This is an area I struggle with as I’ve had the tendency to hide, which stops my shine. I will make it my business to become so comfortable with myself and my abilities, so I can speak up more often and take action more swiftly. I need to exercise my confidence muscle, as I know this is required to reach the levels of success that I aim to acquire. A quote by Arthur Ashe reads, “One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.” Nicole Walker’s Leadership Challenge My leadership challenge for you would be to think about the one thing you can take away from this episode and adopt into your life.  I know it’s hard to absorb too much information at one time and it’s even harder to try and implement too many changes at once.  When I attend a training or listen to podcasts I aim to walk away with a least one thing that stuck out to me and one way that I can change as a result.  I challenge you to do the same!  Don’t forget to subscribe to She Leads Podcast for first access to future episodes. On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m really excited to talk with my friend and gluten/allergen free food expert, Angela Litzinger. She’s an amazing cook and blogger, and we’re talking about planning for the holidays. Even if you don’t like the holiday promotions that happen earlier and earlier in the year, thinking about and prepping for the holidays now can make things so much calmer for you—and help you stick to your budget by spreading things out. When Angela and I talked in late October, she was already starting to cook for the holidays, so now is definitely not too early to get started. Angela suggests starting by writing out what you plan to serve for any holiday meals (she plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas at the same time). The first time you do this, it will take a little longer, but save your plan, and if you tend to fall back on tradition, next year will be easier. Once you have a list of foods you want to serve, make your grocery list. Separate out pantry items (that you can buy any time, like canned pumpkin or nuts). You can keep an eye on sales and buy a few items each week to keep costs down. Then plan what you will make each week or weekend and make sure you add any fresh ingredients you’ll need on hand to your list. We talk about: Taking charge of a meal or volunteering to cook to reduce stress levels if you have specific ways you eat, such as gluten free Asking for a clean, separate space to be free of cross-contamination if you are eating at another home and feeling confident about providing the food you and your family needs Making double batches of what you are cooking anyway and freezing some for the days around the holidays to add more ease and allow more family time Exactly how to freeze meals, what freezes well, and how to keep track of what’s in the freezer Teaching kids to cook and getting their help to batch cook What FLOW365 has meant for Angela LINKS Angelaskitchen.com Angela’s planning for the holidays plan Angela’s Thanksgiving Meal Plan FLOW 365 Doable Changes from this episode: PLAN YOUR HOLIDAY MEALS. Plan what you will serve for any holidays where you are hosting or if you need to prepare food your family can eat. Write out the menus for these meals and any other other special foods you plan to make (Christmas cookies for example). Then make a master shopping list for all the foods you need to buy. PREP HOLIDAY MEALS AHEAD. Cooking or prepping ahead, a little each week, can make your holidays easier. Find a time that works for you each week to do a little extra cooking for the holidays. See Angela’s blog post and Thanksgiving menu for ideas of things to prep ahead. BATCH & FREEZE. Angela recommends doubling up on what you are cooking anyway as a way to stock your freezer with meals that will make the days around the holidays easier. The idea of filling your freezer came up recently to help moms with business as they were getting ready for a launch. Having meals in the freezer is a gift to yourself, because you can nourish yourself and your family and get a break on a day you need it.

About the book: This is a stunning domestic thriller in which a woman must make the impossible choice between defending her husband and saving herself. When Angela met Jason Powell while catering a dinner party in East Hampton, she assumed their romance would be a short-lived fling, like so many relationships between locals and summer visitors. To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother’s home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past. Six years later, thanks to a bestselling book and a growing media career, Jason has become a cultural lightning rod, placing Angela near the spotlight she worked so carefully to avoid. When a college intern makes an accusation against Jason, and another woman, Kerry Lynch, comes forward with an even more troubling allegation, their perfect life begins to unravel. Rebroadcast of the long-running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour," a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org St. Angela Merici was born on March 21, 1474 in Desenzano, Italy. At just 10-years-old, Angela and her older sister were orphaned and went to live with their uncle in Saló. There they led a quiet and devout Catholic Christian life. After the untimely death of her sister, Angela was saddened by the fact that she had not had the opportunity to receive her last Sacraments and was concerned for her sister's eternal salvation. Angela was inspired by the Holy Spirit to dedicate herself to the Lord and to give her life in service to the Church to help everyone grow closer to the Lord. In a vision, Angela saw her sister in the company of the saints in Heaven. She became increasingly more devout and joined the secular Third Order of St. Francis. When Angela was 20-years-old, she returned to her hometown of Desenzano. She found there were many young girls who had no education at all, and her heart was moved to find a way to help them. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Angela founded the Ursulines, a religious community of women with a teaching ministry. The Ursulines opened schools and orphanages and in 1537, Angela was elected "Mother and Mistress" of the group. St. Angela Merici died on January 27, 1540 and was canonized on May 24, 1807 by Pope Pius VII. Her feast day is celebrated on January 27.

Ask many people what do they do on Sunday morning and they will tell you they go to church. And, if you ask them why do they go to church, you’ll get a variety of answers: “To worship.” “To fellowship.” “To hear from God.” All of these are good answers but, guess what, you can do these things anywhere. Why? Let me tell you! (Matthew 16:13-20 ESV) 13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”  Today, we will see that the Church is God’s Government on earth, it is the Bride of Christ, and it is His Children. Government In verse 18 of today’s text, Jesus is saying that upon this rock, He will build His church. Quick stop here: this and verse 19 are where we get the concept of St. Peter manning the gate to Heaven. Unfortunately for many, this just isn’t true. What Jesus is saying to Peter is that he is a rock but upon a bigger rock (the truth, that is, Jesus, Himself) He will build His Church. There is no solid scriptural evidence that the church would be built upon Peter. Moving right along — the Greek word for Church is ekklesia. This word literally means “called out assembly.” The Roman Empire called it’s legislative body by this term. Jesus isn’t speaking of something religious, here; He’s speaking of a new Government. This is why He preached so much about the Kingdom of God being at hand — or here-and-now. This harmonizes with what Jesus commanded: (Mark 16:15 ESV)  And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. The imperative, here, is GO. Jesus did not restore a seated Kingdom on earth, He brought forth a mobile one. Notice Jesus’ example: He went from place to place, preaching and teaching. He did not have a set “base of operations.” Jesus did not say “If you build it, they will come…” That ain’t the Gospel, that’s “Field of Dreams!” The Government of God is focused on taking Jesus to people not getting people to come to church! Bride The Church is the Bride of Christ. She is to be presented to Him without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:27). It is incumbent upon the bride to prepare (Revelation 19:7). When Angela and I got married, I didn’t have to participate in her preparation. That was her responsibility. My responsibility was to make a place for her and provide for her. We, the church are responsible for preparing ourselves for the wedding! We are to be married to Him, to Love Him, and be faithful to Him. Not out of fear of reprisal: (1 John 4:18 ESV) There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. You cannot be prepared to spend eternity with someone you fear! Children Romans 8:14 tells us that if we are led by the Spirit, we are sons of God. We are to reflect his will, culture, and intent in the world. Those who are born again have the very DNA of God in them (Romans 8:21). God loves us so much that it wasn’t enough for him to position Himself close to us, He chose, instead to place Himself within us. As a father, I can tell you that my sons looking like me is a blessing but where I’m really blessed is when they reflect my influence.

When Angela's sprawling, keenly observed debut novel, "The Turner House," dropped last spring, it won rave reviews in big, important outlets like The New York Times. The novel picks up in 2008, with the housing market in full swoon. The many siblings of the huge Turner family in Detroit are fighting over what to do with the home in which they grew up: their matriarch is elderly and fading; the house is practically worthless. The novel hopscotches across the decades, telling the story of the Turners and the big, messy city they call home. Six months after it dropped, "The Turner House" is on the fiction shortlist for the National Book Award, the winner of which will be announced this Wednesday. Everything in her traditional upbringing suggested that she was on the right track with her life. But for Angela, she realized that this kind of dream wasn’t going to cut it for her. When Angela left her job as a therapist in a mental unit and moved back to Nashville, TN in 2003, she got a job working at a local hospital. Soon afterward, she took on her first wedding planning client “just for fun”. This lead to the next client and the next wedding, and pretty soon, she had a full-time job AND a full-time wedding planning business. By 2009, she was working 21 hour days, seven days a week.
