Welcome back everyone to SFHM. First off we have some exciting news our boy Eric is officially back in town. As most of you know Eric has been living in Mexico for the better half of a year with his wife. The boys are reunited and yes it feels so good. Anyway, we have a lot on the docket today so lets get into it. With Eric being back we continued the conversation that Bryce started last week in regards to Deshaun Watson. In an era were people are quick to jump to conclusions the boys make a concerted effort to explain why both sides deserve to be heard as this subject matter, sexual misconduct, is very serious. Next, the boys talk about the NBA deadline in regards to who made a move and who should have a made a move and did nothing. Yes, Boston fans trading for Evan Fournier counts as not making a move. Sorry not sorry. This leads to heated discussion about what it really means to go into a "rebuild" and who qualifies under the definition the boys come up with. Remember if you didn't get it from the horses mouth stop listening to the ass who told you! SONG OF THE EPISODE: KOTA THE FRIEND-SYDNEY

This week on Audience we chatted with Eric Nuzum, an expert who started NPR’s podcasting efforts back in 2005. Eric help found some of NPR’s most successful shows, has published three best-selling books, and co-founded a podcast production company called Magnificent Noise. Recently, he found time to write and publish his fourth book, Make Noise: A Creator’s Guide to Podcasting and Great Audio Storytelling. The words of wisdom and exercises on being a better storyteller lead Craig to his position to sit down with Eric to pick his brain. Throughout this interview, they focused on how to conduct a more engaging interview, why DIY podcast networks succeed, the similarities between hobby podcasters and big budget productions, and where podcast advertising is headed in the midst of COVID-19. Listen to the full episode now for Eric’s expert insights on all things podcasting. How Can Interviewers Create A Good Story? With Eric’s experience being the interviewer, interviewee, and producing interview-style podcasts, there’s no better person to ask about how interviews create good stories. He points out, when compared to monologue episodes, interviews help people who aren’t accustomed to telling their own story. Rather than the pressure to grab the mic and figure out their own way forward, the interviewer leads the guest to the questions the audience wants to learn about. But the tough part is the communal lift involved in getting the good story. There’s more than one stakeholder involved in shaping the narrative so it’s everyone’s job to keep the interview’s focus on the information that’s most useful to the audience. Another key to getting a good story is the interview needs to feel natural, organic, and authentic. Podcaster’s most common hangup is trying to emulate someone else as their interview persona. While trying to mimic another person, you’re pretending to be an interviewer instead of actually engaging with the guest. Eric’s tip is to get out of that mindset and get back to being genuinely curious about the person you’re talking to. An organic, give-and-take conversation will help create a more riveting story arc. Eric’s biggest interview tip: don’t ask questions you already know the answer to. It leads to inauthentic sound bites and a guest who can’t wait to end the conversation. For podcasters without extensive media backgrounds, make creative decisions is difficult. What’s your advice to people who are intimidated or frustrated by this part of producing a podcast? To promote his most newest book, Eric is often on the road talking about podcasting. From boardrooms to coffee shops, how to tackle the big creative decisions plagues every podcaster no matter their experience level. Eric found both corporate conglomerates and podcast hobbyists struggle with the same frustrations. With so many decisions to make, combined an abundance of available options, every person he’s encountered is looking for the same information. This should be encouraging for beginners because it means having a big budget or a room full of media professionals doesn’t guarantee a hit podcast

With Eric sidelined due to an urgent gingerbread house making engagement, Elizabeth and Scott ran a Williams & Harrell-esque two-person game. This week saw the Harden dunk/Rockets protest fiasco, an all-time LeBron uncalled travel, and Chris Paul doubling down on being a snitch, so as good basketball attorneys we have to ask: is the NBA rule of law under threat? (Programming note: Eric should be back tomorrow night to discuss the Fizdale firing and preview the Dec. 15th trade market, if he isn't too offended by all the jokes made at his expense here and during the first several minutes of the episode.)
ADHD reWired is doing something different today, Cameron Gott is interviewing Eric. Cameron is an ADHD coach, that typically works with entrepreneurs, professionals, and small business owners to make better decisions and leading teams. He also trains coaches with two organizations and has started his own podcast. Cameron likes to use the curious accountability model for interviewing and will interview Eric with this same process. He likes to use it because it is a useful model for people with ADHD; we tend not to look back and reflect. Cameron wants us to imagine a rope bridge, the near side is resources, and the far side is the successful outcome. The middle of the rope bridge is the actual engagement, the anchor that leads from the resources to the successful results. He starts by asking Eric questions about where he is at right now and how he feels about this being his 300th episode. Eric says that over time, he has become a perfectionist, and the challenge this can be when editing a podcast. He talks about his son's diagnosis of ADHD and autism and how that was the impetus for him starting the podcast. Listen in as Cameron pulls some interesting new information out of Eric. With Eric on the other end of the microphone, you never know what he might say. You won't be disappointed, and you will learn a little about what makes Eric tick. Don't miss episode 300. You'll Learn: [02:05] Welcome to the show, Cameron. [04:08] The topic today will be curious accountability. [07:13] Eric where are you as you stand in this place, what is it to be here at this outcome? [12:38] They discuss Eric's accomplishments and how much he has done with this podcast, the spinoffs, and his coaching. [18:37] What was the impetus for starting this podcast? [22:38] His son was born and he realized his son was ADHD on the autism spectrum. [29:12] Eric talks about the first episodes and how they unfolded, there was no grand plan. [32:29] Was there any time commitment on your part when you started this podcast? [35:19] Eric discusses his coaching groups and the promise he made to it. [40:29] He tells us he struggled with work-life balance when he had his practice. He worked hard for his son but he never saw his son. [45:34] He speaks about releasing episode 47 @ 55 mph and the feedback he received from his listeners. [48:34] Consistency with wiggle room [51:56] Is there a surprise that came out of the left-field from this journey you've been on? [57:35] Looking forward what do you see happening in the future? Opportunities for growth? Spinoffs? [1:02:46] Thank you, Eric, for 300 episodes, and we can't wait for more. [1:03:28] Cameron's podcast is translating ADHD @ . [1:04:44] Cameron, thank you for doing this episode. [1:05:00] Thank you, everyone, and if I forget someone, know that I appreciate you. Links and Resources |

If you like our content and want us to keep it coming - feel free to buy us a coffee on : www.buymeacoffee.com/trackerbros :) Today's guest is the "Techy Agent" aka Eric Russell, who we consider a popstar among the fitness tech reviewers on Youtube, with more than 54.000 followers (including us two). Higher dark forces tried to prevent this recording: In the middle of the session, Daniel had a complete power outage in his house, while in parallel Markus' cat puked on the carpet and Eric's network dropped. We believe this is the combined wrath of upset Polar Ignite users as a reaction on Eric's negative Ignite review :-) With Eric we talked about how life is as a reviewer, how the crowd responds to negative reviews of their favorite gadget, optical sensors, questionable reviews and studies on tracker accuracy. Further, we discuss why "Mr. Agent" loves the Apple Watch 4, and how he applies his sophisticated "Pizza carb load" technique to get energy for long recording sessions in the gym.
With Eric out sick, Evan and Cory still managed to fill their air time with plenty of commentary on various MLB and NFL topics along with their weekly football predictions.

With Eric out, Doug and Dan break down Dan's big 24 Hours of Charlotte idea, dissect Kyle Larson, explain different types of transmissions, honor the passing of several racing luminaries and our veterans, predict what the Coke 600 may display, laugh about the eleven pit road punches heard around the world, and spend some quality time on the phone with Aric Almirola.
With Eric away, Doug and Dan talk about why Chevrolet's are faster in Cup, if Alex Bowman could be the next Cup winner, some oddities on the stat sheet, the All-Star rules, and Georgian Jody Ridley's underdog Dover win in 1981.

Josh spoke at Stonebridge Church in Charlotte again last November after they finished going through the Equipped for Life Course, to answer their questions. The topics are listed below in case you want to jump around: 1:00: "Tell us a little bit about who you are and who ERI is." 3:59: "So you've talked about relational apologetics. Let's say I'm pro-life and I hate conflict. I don't want to offend people, so I basically end up never talking about my pro-life convictions. I'm pro-life, but I don't talk about it because it's a very controversial topic. How do I get over that fear? What do I do?" 14:21: "How do we make conversations about abortion more common and less weird?" 18:32: "In your opinion, how can we as a pro-life group at a large church, more effectively stir up passion for pro-life advocacy within our walls?" 22:59: "How can we have a greater impact in our community? In your experience and convictions, assuming that the foundational call is to love God and our pro-choice neighbor, what do you think are the most effective ways to turn the tide of our culture toward valuing the life of the unborn more?" 31:52: "I'm going into professional counseling and have been learning about not imposing values onto clients. So if a client came up to me and said that they want to have an abortion, how should I approach that without imposing my values?" 37:14: "If I'm buying a whole lot of baby diapers or something to give to the pregnancy center, and just by chance someone from Walmart or wherever strikes up a conversation, I think I'd probably keep it real short and sweet, but that was an idea that came to me." 39:08: "I didn't attend the [Equipped for Life] course classes and I don't want to cheapen your 35-hours of course material, but is there 60-seconds that you could give...?" 42:10: "I hear you saying that most pro-choice people believe that an [unborn] baby is a human being, but the woman's right to choose trumps that." 44:51: "In your opinion, if you were to give a state of the union address on the status of the pro-life movement in America and the culture, what's the wind of the culture right now when it comes to this? 60-second state of the union address. Where are we culturally? Is abortion going to end in 2017?" Josh asked Eric to read the email he sent his friend to initiate a series of conversations about abortion. With Eric's permission, here is the full text of that, and you can feel free to copy any part of it if it would be helpful to you: Awhile back I had mentioned the idea of the two of us sitting down to discuss our thoughts about abortion. I'm writing you now to tee that idea back up and hoping that you'll say yes. I've been taking a class that has been geared toward having great conversations with people who think differently about controversial topics, and one of the assignments is to literally have at least one actual conversation with someone about a controversial topic. All too often, people on different "sides" of a topic like abortion spend all their time defending their own view and criticizing opposing views without actually listening to and learning from people who have differing views. I want to be a person who listens and learns. Will you help me do that? I'd like to buy you breakfast, lunch, or just a cup of coffee sometime and learn from your views on this. What do you say? At one point Josh talked about the idea that we don't change people's minds, but that people change their own minds. He neglected to cite him in the moment, but he owes that insight to Timothy Brahm. With Eric’s help, we finally put the great turkey freezing/fresh debate to rest. Also, this episode stars Bob Saget known for his stand-up, but to be honest, he’s more known as the lovable Danny Tanner on Full House… We tried to coin the phrase ’Saget-Head’ if it takes off, it was all us. Does anyone know the punchline to the opening monologue joke or the Breakfast Club joke? Email us, please. Lee Rankin, owner of Apple Hill Farm, an award-winning agri-tourism business in North Carolina. Lee joins Charlie on the show today to talk about the challenges and triumphs of starting a farm from scratch, and growing it while being a single mom in the middle of North Carolina. While the story is primarily about the farm, she encounters many of the same patterns and principles that we see in all types of creative work and businesses. Key Takeaways: [2:35] - When Lee was 40, she took her one and a half year old son to the Kentucky State Fair and she met an alpaca. In that moment, she realized that what she wanted to do was raise alpacas. When she had fulfilled her current commitment in Kentucky, she moved herself and her son to North Carolina and they found a property, and that’s how it all started. [6:00] - Alpacas date back to Incan times, and Lee thinks they have that same energy pattern intact, and that’s why people are drawn to them. This connection doesn’t seem to happen with just any animal. [8:30] - Along this journey, Lee not only learned about farming, but also learned a lot about herself. First and foremost, she learned that she doesn’t have to know how to do something to actually do it. It’s more about her wanting to do it, moving forward, and learning how to correct when she needs to go in a different direction. [9:54] - Looking back on it, Lee learned that she is much braver and more courageous than she had any idea. Charlie talks about “moral luck,”and the idea that there are times and spaces where we are in certain situations that allow us to manifest bravery and courage. We can’t always know or predict what we’ll do in a given situation. [11:38] - There were a lot of challenges in getting things started, and sometimes looking back on it, she can’t believe she made it through (while raising a child!). One of the first things that happened, about six months into raising alpacas, was that there was an attack on them and she lost four out of five of the alpacas. She discovered her bravery in her quick action and reaction in getting help. Because one lived, they were able to move forward. [16:50] - The alpacas they lost were insured, and although it wasn’t easy, they were able to use the insurance to purchase new alpacas. Had they not been insured, it would’ve been a great loss of money in addition to the loss of the animals. Lee explains a bit about the alpaca business model; their intention was to breed and show. [18:40] - They stayed in the selling animals business for a while, but they also gained some interest in people coming to visit their farm. Lee talks about some of the precautions they put in place to protect the alpacas (more animals), and how that became a story. [20:48] - There are many parallels between creative businesses and the farm business. What usually happens in businesses of all types, is that thing you originally start your business around is not always what makes it profitable. For Lee’s business, people were originally coming for the story around the tragedy, but now they keep coming back to the farm because they have a group of animals that work together and allow them to experience something they’re not used to seeing. [23:27] - The shift to agri-tourism started slowly, and they had to make some changes to become an agri-tourism farm. Lee had to have the animals handled in a way that allows her to spend time with the guests, and they also opened a store. [24:12] - Agri-tourism is tourism on a farm that has to do with agriculture or the land. People are interested in seeing and teaching these processes. They also attract families because families are interested in doing things they can do all together. Fundamentally, they are selling an experience. [27:20] - Alpaca fur is very popular because it’s hypoallergenic, and it’s hollow-cored so it’s warm without being hot. It’s also a natural fiber. There’s an element to it that is more than the sum of its parts that makes it very appealing to people. [30:05] - They have an incredible team of people who work at Apple Hill Farm. They have some employees who have been with them for several years, and they currently have a graduate student on the farm who is studying bumble bee DNA. They have some others who are in school, as well as several people who do things outside of their work on the farm. The team has a special bond, which enhances how they work together and interact with their guests on the farm. [33:55] - Lee has fostered a culture at the farm that is defined by kindness and respect, not just between the staff, but also extended to the guests. A strong leader on their team, Breann, also supports Lee in this idea. [36:23] - Lee really loves what she does and is passionate about it, which has made it hard to turn some things over. But she’s found that when she does turn something over, they grow. With Eric and Breann on board, they have separated tasks out so they’re each responsible for something, instead of Lee shouldering it all. This has led to them gaining some outside support as well, especially with the people who do their payroll, who celebrate their wins with them. [42:05] - There’s a difference between the responsibility load that you carry and the time it takes to do those things. When you can let that go, not only does it free up time, but it lifts the responsibility weight and allows you to focus on other things. [47:20] - Lee’s biggest challenge right now is still trying to find the time to step away and work on her memoir. She wants to step away at the same time the business is growing exponentially, but also doesn’t want to leave. [49:55] - They’re up 32% in number of tours compared to last year, and in terms of money brought in by the tours, they’re up 46%. Their year-to-date sales figures are up about 35%. Leaving this type of growth is difficult because it’s what Lee has been working for since it opened. [53:47] - To help manage the different tasks she does, Lee has days designated for certain tasks - accounting days, days set aside for writing, days on the farm, and rest days. She also manages her time throughout each day, and sets time aside for her to do something creative each day. The principles Lee practices work in a wide variety of contexts and businesses. [59:07] - Lee’s challenge for listeners is to look at what you’re doing from the standpoint of what is it that you’re giving that you need to receive, and start receiving it.
