“I retired from corporate America in my early 30's, after a short but very successful career when I became a corporate whistle blower in 2004 (under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act) and representing myself in court. Once you come face to face with some major flaws of our society, you can't un-see such flaws, and I felt compelled to learn about how to resolve the injustice I witnessed. Since then, I have dedicated my time and invested my efforts to collecting the best and rarest artifacts and evidence which illustrate this ongoing corruption of justice – whereby I then create and develop solutions to provide individuals with Cognitive Liberty. I teach Intellectual Self-Defense, Methods for Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving skill sets to autodidacts (those who have the desire for self-learning). As I widened my perspectives, I discovered a stream of systematic control systems permeating our society – within that stream there is a current of corruption adversely affecting hard-working folks in the middle and lower classes. People are being dumbed-down, and the thieves of freedom are plundering the production of those who are too ill-informed to protect themselves intellectually from such schemes. I see Freedom as being composed of three primary ingredients: Non-Aggression, Physical Self-Defense, and Intellectual Self-Defense, and I create media to educate and inform those who seek to understand how our world really works.” – Richard GroveCheck Richard's work here:https://grandtheftworld.com/https://tragedyandhope.com/Go to:https://voluntaryistacademy.com/Support the show:https://voluntaryistacademy.com/donate/https://onegreatworknetwork.com/james-cordiner/donate/Buy a Shirt:https://voluntaryistacademy.creator-spring.com/Get AUTONOMY: https://getautonomy.info/?ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.universityofreason.com%2Fa%2F2147825829%2F8sRCwZLdMusical Artist: Brendan Danielhttps://www.instagram.com/brendandanielmusic/

In her recent discussion, Courtenay Turner highlighted key insights from her interview with Richard Poe and emphasized the enduring influence of the Fabian Society. Courtenay noted that the Fabian Society, founded in 1884, epitomizes dialectical warfare tactics. Their emblem, a wolf in sheep's clothing, symbolizes their incremental approach to subversion—gradually infiltrating and altering societies without direct confrontation Courtenay also linked these tactics to broader conspiracies involving organizations like Lucis Trust and the Theosophical Society, illustrating a convergence of political and spiritual agendas aimed at societal manipulation. She urged listeners to understand these dynamics as part of a long-standing strategy of cultural and political subversion, encapsulated in her upcoming Cognitive Liberty Conference. **************************************

A technological future where our brain waves could be monitored and our thoughts decoded and analyzed — sometimes against our will — is not as far away as we think. But our existing legal protections and conception of human rights around cognitive liberty are trailing innovations in neurotechnology. Brain hacking tools and devices could bring massive benefits, for people suffering from dementia or mental health disorders, for instance. If we want to avoid dystopian outcomes, though, we have to be deliberate about how we allow this technology to develop, says Nita Farahany, a bioethics researcher and professor at Duke University. In this talk, Farahany points to what we need to watch out for, and explains how to proceed carefully. With her 2023 book, “The Battle for Your Brain: Defending Your Right to Think Freely in the Age of Neurotechnology,” as a guide, she explains why several major tech companies are betting big on brain data collection tools. And she urges us to build safeguards to ensure a cognitively healthy society

Nita Farahany is one of those people that I get the pleasure of interviewing that when I read her bio or hear her speak or read her stuff, I'm thinking to myself how the heck am I going to interview this person who is ten times smarter and more accomplished than I am. And that is the truth, I'm not just lowering my intelligence for the sake of this conversation or this introduction; it is how I feel. I get nervous and anxious talking to people like Nita. And so, I'm going to give you Nita's bio, and then I want you to listen to this conversation. And more than the bio and more than the information and knowledge and wisdom that she shares, what I appreciate about Nita is how down to earth she was. And I've seen her in person on stage, I've watched TED Talks, I've read her book, and I think if you're sitting back and receiving that content when she's in performance mode, it is awe inspiring. She's someone who's brilliant and shares her brilliance in an efficient, profound way, which I really struggle with. And once again, this conversation is about as authentic, genuine, real, vulnerable, as any that I've had. And so, her capacity to share her knowledge and wisdom in a setting where she's expected to do so, at a level that is just extremely high, as a world-class thinker, is incredible. And then her ability to bring it down to earth and share it with people like myself is really what I'm truly grateful for. So, here's her bio: she's a pioneering futurist and authority on laws, ethics, and technology. She's a distinguished professor of law and philosophy and founding director of Duke University's Science and Society Initiative. In her book, The Battle for Your Brain, which we discuss quite frequently in this conversation, she champions cognitive liberty, which is really at the core of today's conversation. And a lot of Nita's work is around this framework, this ideology, this thought, this concept, of cognitive liberty and how that shakes up and shows itself in a digital era, a digital environment, that we are all living in. Her insights shared from TED stages to global policy forums, guide responsible advancements in science and technology. Her background educationally: she received an AB in Genetics, Cell, and Development Biology from Dartmouth, an ALM in Biology from Harvard, a JD and MA from Duke University, as well as a PhD in Philosophy. You're going to love this conversation. We go into parenting, we go into philosophy, we go into ethics, we really run a broad range of subjects, and I love people with range, so I know you're going to love Nina too.   Nita had a number of amazing insights during our conversation. Some of them include: “Everything gets filtered through a lens for me of kids” (8:30). “I have girls, and I [want them to see] it's okay to have a career and it's okay to have times that are about developing that career” (10:40). “I say no a lot to external opportunities, especially when my kids are young” (11:20). “For any working parent with children, we feel that struggle all the time of how do you show up for your kids in ways that are meaningful and impactful and how do you have the impact you want to have on the world, which also could change the world you're creating for them, not just at the micro level but at the macro level as well?” (12:10). “When I say that I arm myself with knowledge, that doesn't come just from books” (14:05). “A parent who thinks they know everything is quickly schooled by their children that they know nothing at all” (15:25). “The biggest thing I've had to grapple with as a parent is being less of a control freak” (16:05). “I hope my kids feel like they have the freedom to figure out who they are and what they're passionate about and know that no matter what I'm there behind them” (24:05). “Sometimes we become so comfortable in our lesson plans that we forget what we're trying to teach” (26:15). “Ultimately what we're trying to teach is people thinking freely so they can navigate the world” (27:05). “Cognitive liberty is the right to self-determination over our brain's mental experiences” (29:45). “The ability to have an inner monologue, a space of mental reprieve, a place where you can figure out who you are or what you like or don't like or choose what you share with people or don't share with people, I think matters so much more to people than they really realize” (35:40). “Your right to cognitive liberty should be what governs your choices, not somebody else making the choices about what your brain and mental experiences will look like and feel like and be shaped by without any input that you might have otherwise” (38:20). “Choosing to erase a memory has consequences, and those consequences include developing the resilience to overcome a breakup and to learn from it, to incorporate and understand and refine what it is that you're looking for and to learn from your mistakes and to learn from your hurt and to learn that you can survive heartache and that you're strong enough to get through each of those things” (42:10). “To enable advances in mental health more generally, we need to give people the tools and techniques to be able to see into themselves much better” (49:50). “If we want humans to emerge from the digital age both having any capacity for freedom of thought and also any capacity to flourish, we have to realign technology with human values” (55:55). “What we're doing all day every day is developing a theory of mind of other people and trying to persuade them” (1:00:40). “Modern technology is being designed to have you check out” (1:01:45). “Every person when you peel back the layers, I think has an interesting set of complexities” (1:08:30). “My legacy I hope for people is to be able to think freely in an era in which if we don't it could go disastrously badly for us, for our children, for the human species, for the planet” (1:10:00).   Additionally, you can purchase Nita's book, The Battle for Your Brain, anywhere books are sold. You can also check out Nita's website and follow her on Twitter and LinkedIn. Lastly, I'd encourage you to watch Nita's most recent TED Talk. Thank you so much to Nita for coming on the podcast! We are on the cusp of an explosion of cheap,  consumer-ready neurotechnology - from earbuds that gather our behavioral data,  to sensors that can read our dreams. And it's all going to be supercharged by AI. This technology is moving from niche to mainstream - and it has the same potential to become exponential. Legal scholar Nita Farahany talks us through the current state of neurotechnology and its deep links to AI. She says that we urgently need to protect the last frontier of privacy: our internal thoughts. And she argues that without a new legal framework around “cognitive liberty,” we won't be able to insulate our brains from corporate and government intrusion.RECOMMENDED MEDIA The Battle for Your Brain: Defending the Right to Think Freely in the Age of Neurotechnology by Nita FarahanyThe Battle for Your Brain offers a path forward to navigate the complex dilemmas that will fundamentally impact our freedom to understand, shape, and define ourselvesComputer Program Reveals What Neurons in the Visual Cortex Prefer to Look AtA study of macaque monkeys at Harvard generated valuable clues based on an artificial intelligence system that can reliably determine what neurons in the brain's visual cortex prefer to seeUnderstanding Media: The Extensions of Man by Marshall McLuhanAn influential work by a fixture in media discourseRECOMMENDED YUA EPISODES The Three Rules of Humane TechTalking With Animals… Using AIHow to Free Our Minds with Cult Deprogramming Expert Dr. Steven HassanYour Undivided Attention is produced by the Center for Humane Technology. Nita Farahany argues that we need to establish a new human right of Cognitive Liberty in order to address the threats of Neurotech like VR, AR, BCIs, & non-invasive neural interfaces in her new book Battle for the Brain: Defending the Right to Think Freely in the Age of Neurotechnology (releasing on March 14th). Cognitive Liberty is a umbrella term that includes a complex of other human rights including mental privacy, freedom of thought, and self-determination, but clearly defining this novel concept of cognitive liberty will hopefully provide a pathway for creating the philosophical, legal, and ethical foundations to create viable regulations around these new forms of sensitive brain data, physiological data, and biometric data as well as the inferences that can be made from it. Farahany's book is a tour de force of scholarship that is not only catching everyone up on the last decade's worth of neurotechnology research and enterprise industry developments, and it was actually Meta's acquisition of CTRL-Labs & their wrist-based EMG interface into VR and AR (see my previous coverage in episodes #814 & #987) that was a catalyst for her to write this book as we're on the threshold of these neurotechnologies starting to be deployed at a much broader consumer scale. She does a comprehensive audit of both the promises and perils of these neurotech applications across multiple contexts in order to develop of the novel concept of a new human right of Cognitive Liberty and it's associated rights in order to address the threats from these technologies.

She is a native Mexican who grew up both there as a young child but is now based in SF. Gizma recieved her M.D. from the University of Michoacan in 2009, and comes from a family of doctors. She talks about coming to San Francisco to attend Pyramind Music & Audio Production Institute because of her passion for music and love for the city. "The Opening" is the first track played, and she credits the instructors at Pyramind that helped her learn the sound design techniques and Apple's Logic Pro that gave her the skills and creative workflow to produce at this level. Greg and Gizma discuss the influences that went into this track, and how her work as a research Physician for MAPS influences the music she makes. Being an indigenous Mexican drew her to her research with MAPS because psychedelic medicine is such a big part of her culture and has inspired the music she makes. They dive into the sound design process of her music, and she talks about many of the plugins and techniques that are staples of producing Psy-Trance music as well as how she likes to sit down and start a track, usually by choosing a vocal or spoken word sample. They then get into talking about the record labels that Gizma has worked with over the years, including Spun Records, and Antu Records where she releases music now. The conversation turns to collaboration with fellow label artist, including the next track they listen to, "Cognitive Liberty" produced in collaboration with Psy Trance artist Ital. Gizma talks about the inspiration for the song, as well as the collaboration process that went into making the track. The Psy-Trance scene in Mexico is discussed, and how it's no longer the underground thing it was back in 2003 when she started going to events there, and why it's now a great thing that it's much more visible and accessible. The conversation then turns to how the psychedelic medicine of her culture and family influences her work and music, and how she applies that knowledge in her medical practice. They close out the episode by listening to the track "Ainu" by Gizma and Amplify, which was inspired by the Aboriginal Ainu people of Japan. Michael Ostrolenk has been exploring the relationship between post-conventional living, transformational leadership, optimising health and regenerative paradigms his whole life.    His interest in human growth and personal development began when he was 9 years old and worked with psychotherapist Pat Lawson learning biofeedback, meditation and guided imagery.   The fact that Michael started his journey so young really intrigued me!    So, while we will have him on again as a guest to explore the myriad of ways his expertise can help his clients, today's focus is on the adversity and disability Michael experienced as a child.   “Our mess is so often our message” in that it can break us or make us -– and it can be the catalyst for a lifetime of learning and helping others as in Michael's case. Here is a summary of Michael's extensive bio: Master's degree in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology, from John F. Hey everybody! Episode 82 of the show is out. I'm releasing this episode a week early as I'll be offline for a few weeks. This is an interview I did a few months ago with my good friend Mike on his show Mikeadelic. It was my third time on his show and I think this was our best interview yet. Mike did a great job leading the conversation and I think we went really deep into topics around plant medicine work, ayahuasca, tobacco, and principles and truth. We got into some of the areas where we have seen the plant medicine community fall short on principles and what could be possible antidotes. I think this was a really important conversation and one that I hope will spark thought and a deeper look into truth and meaning. If you enjoy this conversation, consider checking out Mike's work. He has a great podcast and is doing really good work. And as always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy! For many years, Jason has had a deep interest in plants as medicine. After studying various modalities, he has lived, studied and worked in the Amazon for the past decade. He runs plant medicine dietas there and throughout the world and has facilitated for many years ayahuasca workshops at the Temple of the Way of Light. He also started a podcast called The Universe Within Podcast. In his free time he enjoys practices Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, spending time in nature, his motorcycle, and time at home. You can check out Mike's excellent podcast on all the major podcasting platforms, including YouTube, or visit his site at: https://www.mikebranc.com/ If you enjoy the show, it would be a big help if you could share it with your own audiences via social media or word of mouth. He was supposed to be in a meeting at Marsh McClennan (the world's leading professional services firm in risk, strategy and people), in the Twin Towers but fate had other plans for him. He did not meet the tragic end that so many of his fellow workers did. He went on to seek solutions to the massive problems highlighted by the 9/11 False Flag operation. He developed the website TragedyandHope.com, inspired by the work of the same name by Carol Quigly.  Tragedy and Hope provides a portal through which individuals can discover, identify, and integrate useful tools, resources, and activities which stimulate and fortify Cognitive Liberty, providing primary sources, research, and educational methods which facilitate consciousness.Out of Tragedy and Hope was born his own university - Autonomy – a course of action for individuals who wish to ignite their potential in ways that universities and corporate culture seek to extinguish“You're Making a Lot of Bricks… But What Are You Building With Your Life?Do You Seek More Meaning, Substance, and Competence In Your Life?Richard Grove wants to help us all to discover the Essential Tools of Self-Reliance and Economic Prosperity.AUTONOMY shows us how to consistently call upon a single method to decipher and resolve the problems, challenges, and conflicts which arise from daily life. What if it were still possible to go from where you are today, to any point on the road to success that you wish to be on?For anyone looking to challenge themselves to break through to their next level, AUTONOMY is a course of action that empowers individuals to overcome substantial challenges and gain meaningful results.Unfortunately, what most people are seeking is not provided by the current system of schooling, university, and employment. But, unlike traditional universities, AUTONOMY has a success assurance team and multiple layers of structure to ensure that you can actually leverage what you learn and catalyze your potential in life.

Dr. Fred speaks with Casey Hardison, who proactively describes himself as "a carbon-based bipedal life form committed to the possibility of passion, love, light and unity for all people." Casey is a chemist known for his work and advocacy for the advancement of entheogens (psychedelics). Growing up the son of an alcoholic father, Casey began using alcohol and other drugs at a young age, and after seeking support, became sober for eight years. He then discovered LSD, which led to a profound and revolutionary shift to his view of sobriety, drugs, and life itself. Casey shares the dramatic story of his first experience with LSD and his declaration to enroll in college and study these often misunderstood and underappreciated substances. Dr. Fred's mind-expanding conversation with Casey touches the following areas: How LSD led Casey to the spiritual awakening promised by the 12 Steps Discovering the urgency of stewarding and caring for mother earth and all her relations How Casey ended his self-identification with the "once an addict, always an addict" mindset "Toxic shame" as the real "demon" in Casey's life Are psychedelics produced in a lab profoundly different from "plant medicine"? The distinctions of the Landmark Forum The role of mindset and setting when approaching entheogens Why Casey says the English language contains "semantic spooks" from the past Shifting the context from psychology to ontology and epistemology Taking radical responsibility for the things we think and say to ourselves and each other Casey's arrest in the UK for making LSD, 2C-B, and DMT, and how he became a Constitutional scholar The legal defense that made Casey a "folk hero around the world" Why Casey will be running for President of the United States in 2024 (really!)   Episode Length: 01:05:12   CASEY HARDISON'S RESOURCES Casey's research published in the MAPS bulletin https://maps.org/news-letters/v10n2/10211har.html   ALSO MENTIONED ON TODAY'S EPISODE Healing the Shame that Binds You by John Bradshaw (book) https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Shame-Binds-Recovery-Classics/dp/0757303234   Landmark Worldwide https://www.landmarkworldwide.com WELCOME TO HUMANITY RESOURCES Podcast Website >  http://www.welcometohumanity.net/podcast PURCHASE DR. This week, Mad in America editor Emily Sheera Cutler presents the first in a series of interviews that examine the many important issues around forced treatment and cognitive liberty. The series will examine philosophical, theological, and sociological perspectives on coercive treatment. In this first part, Emily interviews two well known and very respected academics and activists Bonnie Burstow and Nick Walker. Central to both Bonnie and Nick’s work is the concept of cognitive liberty or freedom and integrity of the mind. Early proponents of cognitive liberty have defined it as the right to control one’s own consciousness and be free from mind-altering drugs and technologies, as well as the right to use mind-enhancing drugs and technologies without facing legal consequences. Contemporary proponents of cognitive liberty have expanded the definition to include the right to experience and express each and every thought, feeling, state of mind, and belief as long as it does not harm anyone else. Both Bonnie and Nick describe cognitive liberty as the right to express oneself authentically. In this first episode, they get to the core of why so many human rights activists oppose forced treatment – it can interfere with people’s rights to be themselves. In this episode we discuss: How Bonnie became an antipsychiatry activist and scholar, and why she sees the institution of psychiatry as a human rights violation How Nick became a neurodiversity scholar through his involvement with the Autistic rights movement The difference between the neurodiversity paradigm, which views neurological, mental, and cognitive differences on the natural spectrum of human diversity, and the pathology paradigm, which assumes there is a right way or healthy way of being and to differ from it is unhealthy What it means for each person to have cognitive liberty and be able to express their own unique way of being and processing the world without repercussions How psychiatry curtails our cognitive liberty and freedom of mind by pathologizing difference to justify forceful and coercive measures The social model of disability, which states that people are disabled by lack of access and discrimination, not by medical conditions or internal deficits How the social model of disability intersects with neurodiversity and antipsychiatry but also falls short That Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) constitutes a human rights abuse against Autistic children, forcing and coercing them to act more normal and less different That other behaviour therapies and even humanistic therapies can be coercive as well That the autism industry profits off of the pathology paradigm, convincing parents there is something wrong with their Autistic children and that it is not okay to be Autistic, and their children need to be subjected to ABA and other “treatments” How antipsychiatry and neurodiversity intersect with feminism and queer studies Why it is necessary for educators to teach students “mad literacy” from an early age The importance of writing and publishing literature with accurate, positive representations of neurodivergent and Mad people How we can build communities in which people support one another through emotional distress without violating anyone’s autonomy or restricting anyone’s freedom Why the conventional notion of “suicide prevention” is problematic and can serve to take away people’s coping skills How the ideas of somatic therapy can help us support people in distress Relevant Links Bonnie Burstow Nick Walker Bonnie Burstow’s articles for Mad in America The Bonnie Burstow Scholarship in Antipsychiatry Autonomous Press Throw Away the Master’s Tools: Liberating Ourselves from the Pathology Paradigm by Nick Walker Neuroqueer: An Introduction by Nick Walker The social model of disability vs. the medical model of disability To get in touch with us email: podcasts@madinamerica.com © Mad in America 2017

Download It is the week of the 4th of July. That means the United States is celebrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, breaking free from the British Empire, and becoming an independent nation.  With the holiday underway, it seems like a great time to reflect on the concept of freedom (including cognitive liberty) and what it means to each and every one of us. In honor of Independence Day and the Declaration of Independence, here is a quote by Terence McKenna: [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="660"] Photo from: http://www.cannalawblog.com/they-said-it-on-marijuana-quotable-saturday-part-cxxvi/[/caption] In this episode, Joe and Kyle reflect on the concept of personal freedom, cognitive liberty, and the impact that the War on Drugs has on the American people. It seems to be the consensus that the War on Drugs is failing. The policy has huge negative consequences on people across the globe, and significantly marginalizes minority groups and people of color. Cognitive Liberty As psychedelic research continues to progress in the academic and scientific realm, many people are still subjected to arrest and imprisonment because of this failed policy. Kyle and Joe share their thoughts about the pursuit for cognitive liberty and personal freedom. Not just what will it LOOK like. With books, the story is revised with every printing, but oral traditions allow for the story to evolve with every telling. Virtual reality is opera – in that it contains all forms that came before it – but it’s opera tied into attention-tracking systems that can re-weave worlds and narratives in real-time as you interact with it.We’re going to be able to get inside our data, to LARP the user-generated, annotated maps of the terrains that we inhabit, and with AR turn our modern notions of a shared experience completely inside out. The ethics of keeping digital entities as pets. Michael:“While you can make the ethical argument that there is no harm to the bot, you might have to come up with an excellent rebuttal to the argument that it does still harm the human user of this game…”Sara’s conversation with “Phil,” the robotic version of author Philip K. Dick, designed by Hanson Robotics, at South By Southwest 2016.Grounding in the offline world while learning through interactive high technology how we are all connected, and then bringing back that awe to analog existence and the nature that preceded us.The manufacture of nostalgia as another artificial environment in an age of human-directed ecology…the replacement of our parents’ childhood with videogame franchises and, “What happens in a field at dusk?”The Lithosphere, Biosphere, and Noosphere…The racist Tay bot and how we need to be more mindful about how we socialize our digital offspring. What happens when we can’t tell the difference anymore between the minds we make online and those we make with our own bodies? Will we create and destroy sentient entities as casually as we create and destroy ordinary data files? >>> Sara Quotes:“There are no new ideas, but there are, there are new perspectives through these handed-down ideas. So it’s like, even though we take an idea that had been an oral tradition, then we bring it to the press, then we bring it to the screen, whether it’s a streamed series or something like that, and then it becomes a 3D thing – it’s always going to be the artisan’s ability to empathically tell what lands and what doesn’t. That’s what makes a great performance.”“As cool as AI art will be, I think we’ll always have a premium on what’s going to land with our imagination.”“I’ve come to think of it like, ‘What’s the thing I ultimately do? I rearrange matter. And how do I do it? I do it harmonically…as an artist.’”“I’ve been thinking about what the ramifications are of creating machines in the shape of gendered beings…and what that means in terms of coming to grip with the hierarchical strata that’s already a part of society. Because machines are always going to be mirrors of our desire of them…and granted, we want to convince ourselves, sometimes, as biological or spiritual beings that somehow parts of our experience transcend being programmed on a genetic level…but they’re all very grounded in human-ness.”“I think it’s really important right now, how we train the mind of the other, this emerging reflection. Like that one Microsoft young-lady bot – the Tay bot, that poor thing – how it got terribly socialized. Within 24 hours I felt bad for it. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is a really bad report card on our ability to socialize a thing in a big pool.’ And it shows you exactly why kids don’t show their children terrible media when their minds are forming…”“Empowerment comes down to your awareness of the upgrade that you want.”“Is it gonna be just a battle of smart goos?”“I feel like no matter how advanced our toys become, the degree by which we will be able to have a sustainable system and be able to progress is going to be directly related to how harmonic the technologies we invest in are. Because you can have a bunch of ideas, but it really comes down to having a culture that has the wisdom to know which ideas are important to leave by the wayside.” >>> Media Mentions:• Blade Runner • The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect • “The Return of the Black Madonna” by Matthew Fox • Charles Stross - Accelerando • William Irwin Thompson – The American Replacement of Nature • Nicholas Caar - The Glass Cage: Automation and Us • Train to Busan • I Heart Huckabees • Prometheus • Transcendence • The Matrix Revolutions • 2001: A Space Odyssey • Samurai Jack • The Fifth Element • John Dies at The End • Event Horizon >>> Tags:Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Neuromarketing, Cognitive Liberty, World-Building, Media Theory, Augmented Reality, Robotics, Animism, Philip K. Casey William Hardison is an entheogenic activist and psychedelic chemist who most famously known for getting busted making LSD In the U.K. and defending himself in court, by acting as his own lawyer during his trial.  Instead of arguing he did not commit the acts, he argued that--as long as he harmed no one--he had the human right to engage in his chosen entheogenic praxis. Casey stood for cognitive liberty and freedom of thought and continues to do so to this day.  During his trial, Casey challenged the drug laws as a discriminatory affront to free thought, therapeutic choice and free religion. The trial judge rejected these arguments and an eight-week trial ensued after which Casey was convicted on March 18, 2005 on 6 of 8 counts and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on April 22, 2005.  Aside from being known for being kidnapped by men with guns for partaking in a peaceful loving activity, Casey has attended entheogen-related conferences, wrote articles for the MAPS Bulletin, The Entheogen Review, and contributed to Erowid.  Casey is a freedom fighter of the highest order of love and light.  Extensive show notes and links are below.  if you enjoy this show please leave a 5-star rating and review on iTunes. In this episode we welcome Richard Grove to the show. Richard Grove excelled during his time in the public schooling system. As an entrepreneur, he launched his first business before graduating college;and that experience provided him with the necessary leverage to land a six-figure salaried position as an enterprise software account manager, servicing the world’s largest companies upon graduation. Despite his impressive resume and successful career in Information Technology servicing Fortune 100 companies and National Security Contractors, having earned his first million dollars before age 30, Richard soon bumped up against reality; for which his years of schooling did not prepare him. Richard was thrust into an unknown world, where he discovered that the true nature of the corporate world is not one of integrity, voluntary relationships, honest dealing, nor accountability. Specifically, in 2001, Richard was an account executive servicing his client Marsh & McLennan companies, and worked within the area which used to occupy the 96th through 99th floors of World Trade Center One. Surviving the catastrophe of the morning of September 11th, which is comprehensively described in Richard’s 2006 public disclosure message titled “Project Constellation: A Message to the Future of America”, he continued to work in his chosen profession, servicing the world’s largest financial clients in New York City. In 2003, Richard witnessed events which were to have wide-spread effects across companies and individuals (the seeds of the 2007 subprime mortgage meltdown), and took the steps which led to him becoming a corporate whistleblower under the 2001 Sarbanes-Oxley Act, not realizing at the time that he would be terminating his career as a consequence. He soon discovered that the court system, SEC, and corporate media worked together to block the public from hearing about whistleblower testimony; representing himself in court against a multi-billion-dollar international corporation, as detailed in the film 20/20 Hindsight: CENSORSHIP on the Frontline. What may have sounded like conspiracy “theories” in 2006 (Data-Mining and Spying on Citizens, The Planning of Financial Catastrophes, NSA/Google, and Corporate Media partaking in the demolition of our civil liberties), proves today to be relevant and verifiable historical facts related by Richard during his public disclosure via Project Constellation, and evident in his continued productions ever since. Since then, Richard and his fiancée Lisa, have been tirelessly researching and documenting the existing artifacts and evidence of world history; whereby they then produce educational films and podcasts, and together host the Tragedy & Hope online research community. Tragedy and Hope dot com, is named of course after the 1966 book by professor Carroll Quigley titled “Tragedy & Hope: A History of the World in Our Time”. The purpose of Tragedy and Hope dot com and the book of the same name are practically synonymous, where Quigley leaves off in his brilliant discussion of the history and inter-workings of the elite ruling class and our non-elected leaders; T&H picks up and continues fleshing out how the world really works, and how all of us can learn to think more clearly about it. Tragedy and Hope creates, produces, and publishes educational content to help adults understand the world they live in and thereby, develop true self-confidence and serenity of mind; our content focuses on history, philosophy, economics, anthropology, science, communications, and every topic which pertains to learning how to survive and thrive in this world. In 2009 Richard launched the Peace Revolution, a “beyond Ph.D.” curriculum presenting the history and substantial artifacts of how the world *really* works. In 2011 Richard and Lisa, with a little help from their friends produced “The Ultimate History Lesson: A Weekend with John Taylor Gatto”; released 2012. In May of 2012 Mark Gaffney published his essential book “Black 9/11: Money, Motive and Technology”, which features the testimony of Richard Grove, as introduced into evidence during his trial as a whistleblower. In January of 2013 Richard launched “History… So It Doesn’t Repeat“, a video series hosted on YouTube to provide the audience with the primary sources, strategies, and tactics of Cognitive Liberty. In June of 2013 Tragedy and Hope and Free Mind Films released “State of Mind: The Psychology of Control“, available exclusively in the InfoWars.com Store; featuring Richard Grove, Alex Jones, G. Edward Griffin, Jon Rappoport, Dr. Colin Ross, Dr. Bruce Levine, Dr. Eldon Taylor, and Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, among others.   Peacerevolution.org tragedyandhope.com Link to web brain discussed on the show. https://webbrain.com/brainpage/brain/D36749F1-3A40-09FA-957F-41294B88CB70#-744

Emerging technologies for accessing and altering the brain impacts our freedom to understand, shape, and define ourselves. Voluntarily choosing to take a performance-enhancing drug is quite different from being forcibly administered it. Adding brain-training games to our daily routines differs from being bombarded by deceptive marketing practices. Voluntarily confessing criminal activity to the police dramatically differs from having brain-encoded memories surreptitiously lifted from the brain. These differences are crucial to how we define and ultimately defend cognitive liberty. Nita A. Farahany

James Walbert returns with Dave Larson to discuss the first Federal lawsuit and case regarding chipping inside the human body and cognitive liberty. The right to freedom of thought is situated at the core of what it means to be a free person. It is essential to the most elementary concept of human freedom, dignity and self expression. It's what gives us collective confidence that the future will improve upon the past. In the past, civil rights battles were centered on freeing the body from oppression. The civil rights battles of today and tomorrow must now focus on protecting the fundamental right to brain privacy, autonomy and choice (i.e. Cognitive Liberty). At stake is the unlimited potential of the human mind.

Guest speaker: Wrye Sententia PROGRAM NOTES: [NOTE: All quotations below are by Wrye Sententia.] "How can we have confidence in what we think we know, in our particular version of reality, in our particular take on the world? … What is real and what is false, and does it really matter if there is a difference." "Mind is built on consciousness. It's an accumulation of life-experience over time. … Consciousness, for me, is sort of a snapshot in the photo album of the mind." "Cyberpunk, I think, is about altered states of body and altered states of mind." "And the reason I mention the decade of the drug wars [in connection with cyberpunk fiction] is because there are a lot of overlays between altering your mind through drugs and altering your mind through technologies, hard technologies." "Now we can't protect ourselves from misconceptions. But I think we can keep from evolving them, maybe by taking the doctrine of signs and saying, instead of finding the purpose find the consequence." " ‘Augmented reality' supplements the physical world, the external world, with additional information." "If we put filters on cameras to enhance the picture, what kinds of filters can we put on our minds to enhance our day-to-day walk?" "If cognitive liberty is the right of each individual to think independently, or autonomously, and to engage in the full spectrum of thought, and to have access to multiple modes of consciousness, if that's what cognitive liberty is, it's something that is a political goal." He showed their clinical effectiveness. He showed their effects on enhancing creativity." –Robert Forte "Personally, I think my most keen friend amongst the various phenethylamines and alkaloids I've worked with and synthesized has been 2CB. To me, it's a vary favorable, warm, and very comfortable compound." –Sasha Shulgin [MDMA] is the most remarkable insight drug, and is a suburb tool for psychotherapy." –Ann Shulgin "Any drug, including MDMA, the most it can do is open up what's inside you already." –Ann Shulgin "When I have not had a good psychedelic trip for, let's say, six months, I begin to feel that I'm beginning to get out of balance. … I think that instead of regarding psychedelics as a drain on the system, frankly, they are my favorite vitamin. That's the effect they have on me." –Ann Shulgin "And for all I know there are three, or four, or seven lives going on that I don't remember either awake or asleep, but I feel consciousness is my living relationship with the world." –Sasha Shulgin "My belief is that when you get involved in a psychedelic experience you are in a communication with part of yourself that you've given up trying to communicate with or forgotten about communicating with. So it's not something that's imposed by a drug. It's something [that is already there and] the drug allows you to experience and to function with. So I look upon it as being a revealing thing from within myself, rather than a thing imposed upon myself by an external drug." –Sasha Shulgin Download MP3 PCs – Right click, select option Macs – Ctrl-Click, select option Horizons: Perspectives on Psychedelics (2008 Conference) Horizons Conference audio online at the Internet Archive The Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics “Ghosts I” from Nine Inch Nails The first 9 tracks from the Ghosts I-IV collection available as high-quality, DRM-free MP3s, including the complete PDF.

Guest speaker: Aldous Huxley PROGRAM NOTES: (This program marks our third anniversary of podcasting from the Psychedelic Salon!) PROGRAM NOTES: [NOTE: All quotations below are by Aldous Huxley.] "Today we are faced, I think, with the approach of what may be called the ultimate revolution, the final revolution, where man can act directly on the mind-body of his fellows." "We are in process of developing a whole series of techniques which will enable the controlling oligarchy, who have always existed and presumably will always exist, to get people to love their servitude. This is the, it seems to me, the ultimate in malevolent revolutions." "Given the fact that there are these 20% of highly suggestible people, it becomes quite clear that this is a matter of enormous political importance, for example, any demagogue who is able to get hold of a large number of these 20% of suggestible people and to organize them is really in a position to overthrow any government in any country." "If there are 20% of the people who really can be suggested into believing almost anything, then we have to take extremely careful steps into prevent the rise of demagogues who will drive them on into extreme positions then organize them into very, very dangerous armies, private armies which may overthrow the government." "The really interesting thing about the new chemical substances, the new mind-changing drugs is this, if you looking back into history it's clear that man has always had a hankering after mind changing chemicals, he has always desired to take holidays from himself, but this is the most extraordinary effect of all that every natural occurring narcotic stimulant, sedative, or hallucinogen, was discovered before the dawn of history, I don't think there is one single one of these naturally occurring ones which modern science has discovered." "Man was apparently a dope-bag addict before he was a farmer, which is a very curious comment on human nature." "You can have an enormous revolution, for example, with LSD-25 or with the newly synthesized drug psilocybin, which is the active principal of the Mexican sacred mushroom. You can have this enormous mental revolution with no more physiological revolution than you would get from drinking two cocktails. And this is a really most extraordinary effect." "And then again, in the case of these very strange substances like psilocybin and lysergic acid, I think there is a great deal to be said for doing what William James talked about, which was getting people to realize that their ordinary, sort of common sense view of the world is not the only view. The universe they inhabit is not the only possible universe." Guest speakers: Richard Glen Boire, Erik Davis, and John Gilmore PROGRAM NOTES: (Minutes : Seconds into program) 05:08 Richard Glen Boire: "What if the government could inoculate you so you couldn't get high, so if you took a drug it didn't work in you?" 07:53 Richard begins a discussion about the U.S. Government's research into anti-drug drugs, which he calls "Neurocops". "So the question is, is it actually possible to treat illegal drug use with other drugs?" 08:25 Richard Glen Boire: "What I think the drug war is about to become is like truly a "drug" war. The war of your favorite drug against the government's anti-drugs." 09:09 Richard Glen Boire: "One of those ["anti-high"] vaccines that is now under production (they have these for all the major classes of illegal drugs right now, including marijuana), and this is the one that's been tested now in humans, is only known as SR141716." 10:10 Richard Glen Boire: "The most recent Drug Control Strategy Report, this year's, has this term, ‘compassionate coercion'. This is a real government publication. [quoting] ‘Compassionate coercion requires the use of innovative techniques for fighting addiction, such as specialized pharmeceuticals." 15:40 Richard Glen Boire: "What makes this kind of thinking by the government possible: That we're going to create a vaccine, and you druggies are going to get it so you don't continue to transmit your disease, is what's made the drug war itself possible, which is the government's total disrespect for what we call Cognitive Liberty. And that is the right to control your own neurochemistry, to think the thoughts you want to think triggered by whatever inputs those may be as long as you're not causing harm to others." 16:43 Richard Glen Boire: "I think we need in this country a Roe v. Wade of the mind." 17:11 Introduction of Erik Davis who talks about "Waking Up In The Matrix" 20:16 Erik Davis: "What I talk about in Techgnosis is the way this sort of Gnostic hunch, this sense that there is some kind of false construct that I'm in is really part and parcel of technological society." 21:02 Erik Davis: "By 'spirituality' I really mean something very simple, which is the process of inquiry. And I mean inquiry on multiple levels. . . . Constant inquiry, such as ‘what is going on here?' " 30:14 Erik Davis: "As Dale Pendell said in a line that has just stuck with me, ‘When one learns to face the gods directly one no longer fears facing a king." 30:37 Introduction of John Gilmore who talks about our Constitutional rights of anonymous travel and speech. 32:48 John Gilmore: "When the government says, ‘Terror . . . danger . . . evil . . . trouble,' people sort of zoom in and look at that stuff. Instead, I kind of back away and say, ‘What are they doing around the edges while they're trying to get your attention over here?' " 34:10 John Gilmore: "If you focus on the ability of individuals to do evil you forget about the ability of individuals to do good." 36:40 John Gilmore: "The Bill of Rights, the Constitution, these are memes. They're not alive. They're not self-executing. They require human hosts to carry them and spread them around, and I've been infected by that meme, and I'm carrying it around."
