This is The DX Mentor podcast. I hope to help those hams trying to move up the DXCC ladder as well as those that at on the DXCC Honor Roll. I am here to help. #DX #Hamradio Van, N4VGE, is the point of contact and organizer for a DXpedition to Vanuatu October 15th to the 30th, for the CQ WW SSB contest.  The Vanuatu call sign will be YJ0VV for the DXpedition. They will be staying at a luxury villa about 15km from Port Vila on Efate Island. Vanuatu is #83 on Phone (#115 overall) of Clublog's Most wanted DX countries. They will be taking a Flex 6700, Yaesu 891, Icom 7100 and 7300 radios, two amplifiers, a BuddiHex 6-20m antenna, four 40m verticals, DX Commander Expedition vertical (for POTA activations), 10-160 inverted V, and 160m loaded long wire. The QSL Manager is K4NHW, Nathan Wood.  They will be using N1MM+ logging software for the DXpedition and have a goal of 40,000 contacts during the contest using 1500w High Power M2.  Probably not enough for a top three spot but a decent showing.  There are four hams (N4VGE, K4QQG, K1NZ, and K2SAV) and two wives going along. Caryn Eve Murray, KD2GUT, while inspired at a young age to ham radio, it wasn't until after a successful career as a professional writer and journalist that she re-discovered amateur radio in 2014.  Her ham radio history was pretty thoroughly covered in a recent Ham Radio Workbench podcast a few weeks ago.  Our conversation explored her professional history leading to her reporting for Ham Radio Newsline and her love for CW.  KD2GUT is my QSO Today.

Just rambling about a new toy that's coming.

The Yaesu VX-6R is a modern classic Ham Radio. So why should you use this as a scanner radio? It doesn't trunk.  It doesn't do any digital modes.   The alpha tags are limited to just 6 characters, and it's nearly 20 years old. Yep, doesn't seem like this one has many positives when you scratch the surface, but there is more here than meets the eye! The Yaesu VX-6R receives nearly from .5 MHz - 998.0 MHz.   It receives Broadcast AM & FM, Shortwave (AM), VHF-Lo, Aviation, MilAir, Business Bands, FRS, MURS, GMRS, and of course VHF and UHF Amateur Radio Bands. This longtime selling radio is water tight, has a HUGE following in the prepper community, and will run circles around any Baofeng. Selling for around $249 USD, this radio is almost as much as a Whistler WS1040 or WS1065, but neither is water tight, will receive AM or FM Broadcast, or Shortwave. There are plenty of other reasons to think about putting one of these radios into your Scanner Radio collection.  This podcast will continue to outline more reasons to think about the VX-6R.     ====================================
