Today's Topic:  In the pandemic's early days, we've all heard how adoptions soared as people sought companionship during lockdown, famously leaving many dog rescues without any dogs to adopt out.  But what happened after the pandemic?  Did this surge in adoptions lead to a surge in dog surrenders?  If not, what is the current state of dog rescues today? That's why we invited the Director and Marketing Coordinator of Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue, Michelle Beston and Jihan Boughman, to the podcast, to discuss what the experience was like on the ground during that initial rush of eager adopters of "Pandemic Dogs/Puppies"; how the lockdown increased behavioral issues for dogs that were adopted during the pandemic; whether the surge in adoptions during the pandemic resulted in a surge of returns post pandemic; how dog rescues are experiencing a new "state of emergency" post pandemic; how compassion fatigue is affecting those working in rescue and those in the dog community; and so much more!Guest Bio: Michelle and Jihan are volunteers with Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue, one of Colorado's oldest dog rescues. Started in 1972 with the rescue of one white boxer, Ho-Bo Care has grown into a successful foster based organization, saving the lives of over 300 boxers, boxer mixes, and other breeds annually. Ho-Bo Care is dedicated to force-free, fear-free training practices and with the help of local trainers, guides its fosters and adopters to find effective and science-based ways to communicate with their dogs.Michelle, the director of Ho-Bo Care has been volunteering since 2008. She got her first boxer, Foxy, in 2003 and quickly fell for the breed. Foxy not only started Michelle on her journey to dog rescue, but also inspired her interest in dog training. Foxy struggled with leash reactivity and after months of feeling frustrated as though they were working against each other, Michelle and Foxy started to find their groove. Michelle researched humane and science-based training methods and learned that communication was the key to their success. Michelle has fostered and adopted nearly one hundred boxers and other bully breeds over the years.  Jihan, the marketing coordinator of Ho-Bo Care started volunteering in 2014. She jumped feet first into fostering, being paired with her first foster, Duncan. Duncan, a senior boxer that suffered from degenerative myelopathy, was behaviorally complex and took Jihan on a crash course through the dog training world. Since then, Jihan has become an advocate for adoption and force-free training, often using the rescues social media platforms to spread information about humane training methods. Ho-Bo Care is an all-volunteer rescue and has saved over 6,600 dogs to date! Connect With Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue:WebsiteInstagramFacebookTwitterEmailCall/Text

Jihan Gearon is an artist who is pouring her spirit into the sort of art that can change your life. She is a friend. We met when I used to facilitate the fellowship that developed the Young Climate Leaders Network. I think of her as a recovering activist. But that's not exactly true. She can't stop being an activist. She is just another one among the ranks of us who are looking for a better, kinder, and more sustainable way to make the world whole again. I titled this episode “Life Giver,” because that is who Jihan is, and what she does. She breathes life into the world. She reminds us that we can create anything. Here you'll learn about how: at the age of thirty-five, Jihan was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. As part of her journey of healing, she turned to painting, creating bold, powerful works that featured the animals, people, and other beings that protected, motivated, and transformed her during her recovery. Her paintings bring her passions in life together, showcasing feminine energy, connections with the natural world, and the future of a healthy planet. Not one of us will be spared the tragedies of human existence. It behooves each of us to learn from those who come through these as even bigger and brighter souls than they were before grief happened. Jihan describes herself as “an Indigenous feminist, painter, writer, organizer, and leader in Indigenous environmental justice.” She is a Diné and Nahiłii (Black) member of the Navajo Nation. And she is also a graduate of Stanford University. Jihan doesn't just make art, she is also a consultant and a teacher helping leaders and organizations to apply the best of indigenous wisdom to the work we do in the world. I know you'll love this conversation. Enjoy! Hear all our podcasts at https://www.gibranrivera.com/podcast

The birth of Jihan's first daughter, Bella, was traumatic. She and her husband were totally unprepared for the diagnosis of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and struggled with the way the news was delivered to them. Their health care providers failed to provide adequate instructions about the care of a baby who is fragile due to adrenal insufficiency. The first two weeks of Bella's life were frightening, as her parents tried to get the care that she needed and learn how to care for her at home. Twelve years later, Jihan's youngest daughter, Alessia was also born with CAH. This time they were prepared. Adam Shaywitz, endocrinologist, and Chief Medical Officer at BridgeBio Gene Therapy provides an overview of CAH. He describes how CAH affects the adrenal glands, two tiny walnut sized organs which rest on top of the kidneys. The adrenal glands produce critical hormones which regulate blood pressure and play a critical role in how the body manages stress. With too little of these important hormones, patients can go into adrenal crisis, which can be life threatening.

And there's probably a few people who don't know who he is. But you are about to embark on a journey into the mind of a true internet pioneer and blockchain enthusiast. The episode is rife with language and content which may offend your sensibilities. John said we could ask him absolutely anything, so we did.  Tell your children to go play outside, because it's the no-holds barred, completely raw and uncensored episode #100 of The Bad Crypto Podcast.   FULL SHOW NOTES: badco.in/100 TIME STAMPS0:00 - Intro - PARENTAL ADVISORY 04:38 - John McAfee on The Bad Crypto Podcast 05:40 - Everyone wants to know about your member and how you're going to prepare it.  06:30 - You know how the mining is working in Bitcoin, yes?  08:10 - Is everything that is happening right now purely market manipulation suppression? Are there other forces at work?  09:04 - Who benefits from chaos in the crypto market? Governments and banks.  13:10 - The conversations being had in Washington, D.C. about the ways to view cryptocurrency. New companies involved in cryptocurrency are leaving the United States. What can we do as Americans to ensure all of this innovation doesn't leave us with the placement of regulations?  16:19 - You are regularly touting various coins on the Twitters. There are people who are accusing you of pumping and dumping stuff. Tackle the subject of coin promotion.  19:30 - I do not want people - at my age - telling me what I can and cannot do with my own body and mind. My body my choice.  20:18 - What scares me is the people who do not invest in cryptocurrency live like sheep.  22:05 - Governments are salivating at the opportunity to release their own cryptocurrencies and continue the control of the populations.  22:42 - Lambos are the worst goddman cars in the world.  23:00 - Cryptocurrency does not belong to a country or government; it belongs to the individual, giving individuals the power to escape the prison we've been in for 2000 years.  23:26 - No one knows who Satoshi Nakamoto is. There is a really interesting white paper from 1996 on MIT that says, “how to make a mint”. From your perspective, do you think Satoshi Nakamoto was an entity or do you think it was potentially the NSA that created these cryptocurrencies?  24:40 -  We had Tone Bez on the show who does technical analysis. He loves Bitcoin and like others says the other coins out there are scams. What do you think about this?  28:43 - What has to happen for mass adoption of these blockchain technologies? How do we reach critical adoption when most people are sheep?  29:50 - Lightning round of questions.  31:26 - You had a great presentation in 2017 and talked about mobile phones and how they're so treacherous. We know there are vulnerabilities in iOS and Android. I think what you said was really valuable for people to think about. What would you tell people about keeping their crypto on their mobile phones?  35:06 - We know you are friends with Jihan. People want to know if you're involved in crypto mining.  37:58 - You're building the McAfee Coin, right? On the Universa blockchain? Can you tell us about this?  40:06 - How do you get new users? Take the wallet concept and throw it away…  45:52 - One final question. You've dropped a lot of thought bombs. One of the things is that data is such a valuable resource now and blockchain is about securing data. What are your concerns about blockchain technology and its security?  49:32 - Outro  SUBSCRIBE, RATE, & REVIEW: Apple Podcast: http://badco.in/itunesGoogle Podcasts: http://badco.in/googleSpotify: http://badco.in/spotify FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter: @badcryptopod - @joelcomm - @teedubyaFacebook: /BadCrypto - /JoelComm - /teedubyawFacebook Mastermind Group: /BadCryptoLinkedIn: /in/joelcomm - /in/teedubyaInstagram: @BadCryptoPodcastEmail: badcryptopodcast[at]gmail[dot]comPhone: SEVEN-OH-8-88FIVE- 90THIRTY DISCLAIMER:Do your own due diligence and research. Show notes available at https://www.gloriachoupr.com/34Beauty editors are a tough crowd to please. They possess in-depth knowledge of the industry and trends, so impressing them can be quite difficult. That's why when you do get their attention (which is much harder than you'd think), you better have your game face on.People that work in the beauty industry are incredibly visual. As beauty editors, they will see thousands of products a year, so you would expect that their eyes grow tired and their standards become a bit high. You need to tick all their boxes, or you won't even be in the running for the editor's attention. This is where the art of the pitch comes in. Not an easy task, but if you want to land the editor's attention, you have to be creative and put in a great package. It's also a delicate balance between explaining your product or service in the most concise way possible and leaving room for a long conversation. Also, your brand story is a key part of this conversation. It sets the scene and helps to inform their decision. You want to paint a picture of yourself and what your brand is all about without being too promotional. This is your opportunity to shine, so make it worth the editor's time!                                        To crack the code of beauty pitches, Jihan Forbes, Allure's digital editor, offers up a few suggestions for getting your product or service across in the best way possible. “There are a lot of beauty products, there are a lot of brands and they're all making the same stuff. You got to make it unique. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. You just need to put some rims on it.”-Jihan Forbes If you want your pitch to reel in the beauty editors and make them want to know more, this episode is a must-watch!Topics We Cover in This Episode:Why editors don't answer your emails How to make your pitch more compellingWhat not to do in your pitchHow to use relevant content to give editors confidence in your storyThe importance of packaging in brandingIf you want to land your first feature for free without any connections, I want to invite you to watch my PR Secrets Masterclass where I reveal the exact methods thousands of bootstrapping small businesses use to hack their own PR and go from unknown to being a credible and sought-after industry expert. The Viewers Like Us team has spoken with filmmakers, journalists, DEI officers, a member of Congress, station managers and so many others who care about the future of public media. All provide reasons to stay energized and engaged in the work of pushing PBS to live up to its founding mission. But the exhaustion and burnout that comes with organizing for systemic change is real. In our season finale, we consider what—and who—will determine the vibrancy and sustainability of PBS and its audiences moving forward. This episode includes an update to Myrton Running Wolf's story shared in Episode 4, about his painful experience in a mentorship program run out of Boston's public television station, GBH.Grace talks with Jihan Robinson, who currently helps lead documentaries at Hulu's ONYX Collective, a BIPOC-led entertainment brand. Jihan underscores that tangible change will require ongoing investment and work by white people working in media, commercial and public alike. We also hear from filmmaker Kristi Jacobson, who shares what solidarity and accountability in the fight for racial justice and equity in media looks like for her and other white people.Grace and Tunde reflect on what they've learned while making this podcast. And of course, we couldn't end this series without hearing from you, our listeners. In 2022, we encourage you to continue following this project as it evolves, on Twitter (@_ViewersLikeUs_) and through our website (https://viewerslikeus.com/). Because we know what it's going to take for PBS to finally listen: the voices, ideas, care and feedback of viewers like us.Explore show notes, episode transcript and more at: https://viewerslikeus.com/podcast/episode-6-its-not-over/
