What does it feel like to be in an anger cycle at home? How do you know if your parent/child relationship is damaged and what do you do about it?How did the pandemic shape behavior you are seeing today in your home? All these questions and more are answered in this fun and energetic conversation with Nellie and Robbin! Listen in and join us!About the Guest:https://www.parentingforconnection.com/https://www.instagram.com/robbinmcmanne_parentcoach/ My name is Robbin McManne and I, like so many, struggled for years because I wasn't the parent I wanted to be. I struggled to find a connection with my two boys. I had so much love for them, but I found I was often overwhelmed with their needs and losing my temper on a regular basis (sometimes even more than them!). The more frustrated I got, the unhappier I felt. I knew what I was doing wasn't working and that there must be a better way. Through searching for answers, found the Conscious Parenting community. I discovered how I could connect with my kids and through this connection, I found myself, I found joy, and I found my life's work...but most importantly, I found a connection with the people I love the most on this earth, my two boys!I am a certified Parenting Coach through the Jai Institute for Parenting. I have worked with a wide variety of parents from Canada, The United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. I feel honored to have found this way of parenting and to be able to help families who are experiencing some of the same struggles I have faced. Because of this work, I am a more confident, happy, and connected parent.I live on the beautiful West Coast. Together with my husband Cory, we are raising two fun, energetic and athletic boys. When I'm not working, I enjoy being active, connecting with friends & family, and being a cheerleader on the sidelines of my boys' sports. As a woman so many of us have gone into our careers and passions with 3 false ideas: 1.    What leadership is 2.    What success is 3.    That there is a “balance” between life and career that can be achieved and stabilized. All 3 of these ideals can act as an inevitable emotional cliff that if we were to prepare sooner, we could have been better suited for. Find out in this conversation the tops 3 things you can do NOW to help your children prepare realistically and enthusiastically for their future! About the Guest: My team and I help highly educated moms, who have careers in male-dominated, demanding, high-stress/high-burnout/high-attrition, or competitive fields: redefine their career-minded mom identity design a strategic personal brand and back-to-work/career plan after kids * Create a work-life balance that doesn't leave them constantly overwhelmed, feeling lonely, misunderstood, stressed, torn, and too tired for romance, and uplevel their working mom mindset so that they have more time for themselves, their kids, and partner intimacy – all while getting that next promotion or raise, feeling attractive for their partner (and self!), and feeling empowered to make financial choices that are aligned with their new values as a parent AND working woman. Raising a child is big work and we all get a surprise in the middle of it all when it shifts from the needs of the first half to the different and more specific needs of the second half. It is easy to get flustered, lost, and frustrated as a parent (and child) during these years, but there is a sequence of steps, a path, all uniquely walked by each parent, that takes you through their needs and builds what they need before they leave home. In this episode, we walk through the first couple of steps of this more unknown (2nd half of childhood) path and what you can do to help your daughter become a person who knows their worth and values and appreciates themselves in this world. I work with busy moms to create simple, easy routines in the kitchen so that they have less stress and more time in their day.  From the time I can remember, I struggled with food. Food was the center of our family gatherings growing up. Over time, food became a comfort and also what I turned to when I was bored. The problem was the food I turned to was empty in calories and void of nutritional value. I looked to food for comfort again after my oldest daughter was born and my marriage began to dissolve. I went through a divorce and found myself a single working mom. Finances were a struggle, I was depressed and I was thankful to just get through to the end of the week. I found myself lacking in skills to deal with all these life stressors, and found my usual comfort in food. Sometimes you have an “ah-ha” moment. Mine happened on my 30th birthday while visiting my brother. I clearly remember standing on his deck, thinking that I did not want to eat like this any longer! Something had to change! I was so unhappy with myself. I was unhappy with the way I felt. Nutrition has become such a big part of my life, that I now am passionate about dedicating myself to helping other moms like me solve this very problem in their own lives. I want to provide working moms strategies and tools so they can spend time with their family doing things they love instead of stressing over what they will be making for dinner. Toddlers get a bad rap. They are opinionated, not in control of emotions or their bodies and they always WANT things, right? Yes, but what can we do to help them, and ourselves as parents, through this process? Nellie and Jill have an in depth discussion here about the Secret Sauce of communicating with your toddlers and how 93% of what we communicate is not in words, but in tone and body language. And, just to let you know, it doesn't stop here. Middle and high school spirals back to a lot of what you experience in these toddler years, so no matter how old your child is, this is an episode to tune into and take notes! About the Guest: Jill Urbane is a Parent Educator and Masters level Social Worker who has worked with families in their homes for nearly thirty years. In that time, she has supported hundreds of families by providing them with the foundational knowledge and skills to help them support their child's learning, growth and development all while helping them find their parenting mojo. She specializes in toddler speech, social emotional development and behavior.   Social Media:   Website: http://www.thementormomblog.com (www.thementormomblog.com)  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFQsS7XZAyDX1whB9ysRdoQ (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFQsS7XZAyDX1whB9ysRdoQ) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheMentorMom/ (https://www.facebook.com/TheMentorMom/)  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thementormom/ (https://www.instagram.com/thementormom/)  Twitter: https://twitter.com/jillurbane (https://twitter.com/jillurbane)  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jill-urbane-0b1a6239/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jill-urbane-0b1a6239/)  Linktree: https://linktr.ee/Thementormom (https://linktr.ee/Thementormom)    About the Host: Nellie Harden is a wife of 20+ years, mom to 4 teen/tween daughters, dreamer, adventurer, servant, multipreneur, forever student, and a devoted teacher, but her ride-or-die passion is her work as a Family Life Coach & Mentor.  Coming from a career background in marine mammal sciences, behavioral work, and a host of big life experiences, both great and not some not so great, she decided that designing a life of purpose and freedom was how she and her husband, along with their 4 daughters, wanted to live.  Her work and passions exist in the realms of family and parent mentorship because she believes that a family filled with creativity, fun, laughter, challenge, adventure, problem-solving, hugs, good food, and learning can not only change a person's life but is the best chance at positively changing the world.  She helps families build Self-Led Discipline™ & Leadership Into their homes, sets their children up for a wildly successful life on their terms, and elevates the family experience with big joy, palpable peace, and everyday growth! Friendship is tricky and can be difficult at any age. Today we have created this interesting duality of “know yourself, express yourself, put yourself out there” AND simultaneously, weirdly enough, as we have become more respectful of self, we have become less respectful of others in many ways which make us want to hide.  The result is not putting our real selves out there, so people are making friends with a person that isn't even you sometimes. In this episode I dive into: So how does your child find a friend? How does your child keep a friend? What are some warning signs for your child and you as a parent?
