We often focus on words or actions when it comes to building attraction, but one of the most powerful tools for increasing intimacy and arousal is much simpler—touch. Physical contact releases oxytocin, commonly known as the “love hormone,” which plays a crucial role in creating emotional bonds, increasing trust, and boosting sexual desire. Whether it's a gentle brush of the hand or a long, intimate embrace, touch can significantly enhance your connection with a partner. In today's episode, we'll explore the science behind touch and how you can use non-verbal cues to deepen emotional and physical intimacy. Physical intimacy is one of the keys to maintaining healthy and satisfying relationships. But I'm not just talking about sex. Non-sexual physical intimacy is just as important, if not more so! In today's show, we're going to explore why touch is so powerful and tips for introducing more touch into your relationships. We'll also discuss why, paradoxically, intimate partners often retreat from touch at the times they need it the most—and how to deal with this. I am joined once again by Chris Maxwell Rose and Charlotte Mia Rose, the co-creators of PleasureMechanics.com. They have devoted their lives to generating online resources to support folks in cultivating more erotic pleasure, joy, and connection. They also run a podcast called Speaking of Sex with the Pleasure Mechanics. Some of the specific questions we answer in this episode include: Why do we need touch, and why are so many of us “touch-starved?” How can we open the door to intimate touch when we feel stressed? How can lovers experience more affection and physical intimacy in their relationships? What are some things that people can do to become better at both giving and receiving touch? In this episode, Stacy emphasizes the importance of establishing contact with horses in order to achieve connection. Contact refers to physical touch, whether direct or through tools like reins or whips. Connection, on the other hand, has two meanings: the flow of energy through the horse's body in dressage, and the relationship bond between horse and human.  Through examples with her foals, show horses, and dressage horses, Stacy illustrates how contact precedes connection.  Key takeaways: With foals, she uses scratches to build positive associations with touch. For sensitive show horses, resetting cues with firmer contact can alleviate anxiety. To advance, riders must feel the horse's body to harness the energy flow, but this requires the horse's training progression. From ground work to riding, contact training enables connection Overall, Stacy stresses the necessity of contact to foster a willing, connected partnership.

He is the Co-founder and CMO at Apollo Neuroscience, the first scientifically validated wearable system to improve heart rate variability, focus, and relaxation, and helps attain meditative states. Today, we examine the value of touch and sensory techniques, discussing the distinctions between sympathetic and parasympathetic vagal tone in the autonomic nervous system, changes in sex hormones during perimenopause and menopause, and how that impacts sympathetic dominance, the development of stress responses, and the concept of stress leading to personal growth. We explore the influence of the vagus nerve on systemic health, explaining what HRV is and how it can demonstrate bodily coherence, and we also dive into wearable technologies like Apollo, the disruption of psychedelic interventions, and the impact of trauma on physical and mental well-being.  I am confident that you will find today's engaging discussion with Dr. Dave Rabin eye-opening and enlightening. Edward Ulm is an expert body therapist, neuro trauma educator and the visionary behind science of touch – a platform that educates people on safe manual therapy from a trauma-informed perspective. Edward's journey into the power of touch began with his own accumulation of injuries, where he was eventually guided to seek support through manual therapy. His profound healing experiences sparked a deep passion in him to to understand the potency of touch, leading him down a journey of studying the realms of physiotherapy, psychophysiology, somatic psychology, and neuroscience. I originally came into contact with Edward's work over 2 years ago when I went through a 400-hour breathwork facilitator training where his platform science of touch was offered as a resource for further education. I have since followed Edward's work closely, inspired by his ability to bridge manual body therapy with the realms of neuroscience, trauma healing and ancient wisdom teachings. When I heard that Edward was coming to Bali for a few months, I knew that we needed to come together in a conversation. In my own personal journey, learning to work with the body, coming into an understanding of the nervous system and how it consistently informs me throughout my day-to-day has truly been a life-changing gift that I never knew I needed. I have since developed a depth of connection with myself through my breath, movement and touch – a connection that I never knew was possible. Through this conversation, my dearest hope was to provide a glimpse into the doorway I I went through almost 5 years ago – a doorway that I know see as absolutely essential in our modern times. And through our dialogue I aim to shed light on why nurturing a relationship with breath, movement and touch are foundational pillars at this present time. With Edward's insights into ancient wisdom teachings coupled with his depth of knowledge in modern science, I knew that he was the right person to share about the intricacies of the nervous system and how we can embark on a journey of deeper connection to ourselves. I hope that you'll find this conversation just as captivating and insightful as I did. In this episode, Edward and I cover What is manual bodywork and why is it so valuable. How we need to have experiences where a new context of being is available to us A general understanding of how the nervous system functions and how we need to learn safety Why mental approaches are not enough and the importance of working with the felt experience What people can do to create deeper empowerment and safety through a journey of empowerment Why choosing a personal practice is essential The value of yoga and how it has informed Edward in his work through a modern lens — Follow Edward on Instagram: @scienceoftouch For more information on Edward's work, check out his website: https://scienceoftouch.com Follow Alex on Instagram: @alexlehmann_

How can we practice it to break historical narratives and challenge oppression in the workplace? In Episode 131, Aaron Johnson, Professional Speaker at The CUT, joins Melinda in an honest conversation on the power of touch and the Black brute narrative in the workplace. They explore holistic resistance as a response to the profound impact of the Black brute narrative on African heritage men. They discuss ways this narrative shows up in the workplace, including through a lack of safe space where Black men can be vulnerable, set boundaries, and protect themselves when those boundaries are violated. They also discuss the relationship between White women and Black men and how each of us can advocate for anti-racism in the fight against oppression.About Aaron Johnson (he/him)My name is Aaron, and what lights me up right now is cultivating environments that allow black-bodied people to show up as their full tender selves. Happy Satiated Saturday! You may hear bodywork and think of massages. Yet, hands-on bodywork can be so much more than this. Physical touch can be therapeutic in that it has a calming effect on the nervous system, helps to reduce stress, and promote physical relaxation. It can lower heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol levels, and supports the body with entering into a state of deep relaxation and rest. Therapeutic touch can release endorphins and help alleviate physical pain and discomfort. Touch has the power to convey empathy, compassion, and a sense of presence, which can be soothing in times of emotional dysregulation. In this week's episode, we continue on this journey in the history of somatics exploring the bodywork modalities that have influenced the field of somatics.
