Thank you for seeing me and for sharing the ways that this podcast resonates with you and supports you. I have received feedback from so many ofyou talking about how this show is a lifeline for you, and a place where the experience you are having on the parenting journey is validating. When I first started this show…. I had been practicing and facilitating PD for about 7 years Blogging about my experience was landing with readers My community and access of parent educators was growing and I wanted to share conversations with all of you I was looking for a creative way to share content and build my biz I released my first four episodes on April 9th of 2015, my kids were 9 and 12 – in third and sixth grade…. Seems like a lifetime ago What I didn’t see coming…. How easy it was to be in conversation with people I admired about the parenting jourey That I would really be talking so much about HUMANING My desire to do solo shows and share so vulnerably would be so strong That my solo shows would land so deeply with the community That I would feel such a deep connection to listeners That the show would become a life line for ME The tension of leading a community while also navigating the experience of my own children’s teen years….  I’m in a time of transition…. My offerings are geared more and more to parents of teens – this has been the result of looking for support myself and not finding offers that were useful to me, that spoke to me and my style of parenting… I want to be having conversations about the teen years – but also about humaning, because inside of all of this work we are growing and developing as human beings – every single day I am living this…. What I am also noticing is that there are less interviews that I want to be having…. I am feeling less connected to the interview format and more drawn to just speaking directly to you…. So I hope that is ok……  Life happens for you This season is unexpected Long time listeners know that I am in it deep and practicing every day to be as aware and awake as I can with my teens We’ve dealt with it all and continue to e surprised by what is showing up – like, really surprised We can’t know how the narrative will go – we can convince ourselves that we can control it only to be shown time and time again that we CAN NOT I am again in a new place of being show that I have NO CONTROL of the narrative when it comes to my kids….  Radical Acceptance Have you heard of this? DBT (which I haven’t ever done and know really nothing about accepting something with all of your soul opening yourself to fully experience the reality of the moment Fighting reality continues suffering Being in acceptance allow “radically accept that you want something you don’t have and it’s not a catastrophe” – Marsha Lineham The moment your in and the past – but you can change from there Reality is what it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTG7YEWkJFI Past and future fucks us up How many of us feel guilty and rack our brains looking for where we screwed up? If we did it differently we wouldn’t be in the situation we are in…. But but but…. Shouldn’t we think about the future? And how can we not??? I have hopes and dreams for my kids, of course. THEY ARE THE DESIGNERS OF THEIRL IFE AND HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THE WAY???????? Creating a space that is pure enough for them to trust themselves. Popular conversations Would have us believe that there is a five step process for getting the outcome we want with our kids Popular conversations would have us believe that parenting is about them and not us Popular conversations would have us believe that if things go sideways it is about something that we are doing wrong, that there is something to fix Popular conversation blames the world today, technology, and teens themselves for what we are seeing  What if popular conversation is wrong What if parenting is all about us? What if no matter WHAT we do, our kids are going to experience the path they are meant to experience? What if right here, right now, is exactly as it is meant to be? Radical acceptance. If this is exactly where we are meant to be, with all fo the challenges that exist – and I see you out there. Those of you with kids who are navigating mental health challenges, drug use and abuse, risky behavior – I see you out there who FROM THE BEGINNING were invited into radical acceptance due to your childs different abilities – whether they be physical, mental or emotional.  You are the ones that all of us can learn from. This is old news, this idea of accepting reality AS IT IS. Thank you for being models for the rest of us and modeling what this looks like…. If this is exactly where we are meant to be, if we accept rather than resist the reality that we are finding ourselves in day to day, then there must be a purpose. Perhaps it is as simple as sitting in this space. Allowing the physical, emotional, and spiritual experience of this acceptance to live without trying to make it go away. My own experience with this…. Eps 203 I talked about getting a therapist Current situation creating a physical response in my body Somatic therapy/radical acceptance called me to transform the experience What also shows up….. self doubt (the ego is super loud) Back to radical acceptance, back to turning inward and being with what is showing up Raise your hand if you can’t sleep? Raise your hand if your belly is tied up in knots? Raise your hand if you are experiencing feat that is with you all.damn.day? I see you. Radical acceptance. Things are as they are. Feel that Notice what shows up Allow it to have a voice How does your body respond? What happens when you bring compassion? Can you be with it? We are not in charge of the narrative that is our children’s lives. Yet , as that narrative plays out, we can write our own narrative about how we are going to show up…… And right now, the narrative that I am writing is one of radical acceptance. Been telling yourself you want to start meditating, but haven’t known where to start? Tried meditating before, but couldn’t stop the thoughts from racing around in your head?Trying to heal from trumatic experiences?Having a hard time putting your ego in check?Feeling too busy? Easily agitated?Wanting crystal clear vision of your life purpose? Each minute of the Seven Day Surrender Challenge is evidence-based and has been carefully designed for effectiveness. Day 1: 36 min.Days 2-7: 27 min.(198 minutes laying the foundation to a whole new you)Perfect step-by step start to meditation for beginners...New tools and techniques for the advanced. Combining thousands of years of experience and techniques, with NEW insights, because it works. Beginners will find this guided Surrender Lab Session an easy way to be helped step-by-step, getting started into their own mindfulness practice. With that said, and from what I’ve learned collaborating with many others now, even if you are very experienced with meditation, Surrender Lab can add additional tools, techniques, and insights for you to become increasingly present as well. Show notes and other Presence related episodes can be found at: PresencePodcast.comEmail at: kenn@kenn.meYou can also follow or message on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter: @kennsullivan If you are searching, search "Kenn Sullivan" or "Presence Podcast Kenn"Welcome to Surrender Lab. [WARNING] DO NOT DRIVE AND LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE AT THE SAME TIME. (Includes 27 minute seated private meditation)Like I’ve mentioned in earlier episodes, I call it Surrender Lab because in my experience, Surrender is the most useful word I’ve found that helps to uncover the very best of what life has to offer. And Lab, because in the lab we can experiment and become a little more aware by observing how everything is always changing, and then as we observe...when we learn tools that can awaken the powerful observer inside, we find ourselves feeling more balance and peace of mind by simply becoming increasingly self-aware, seeing a little more clearly, and respecting everything AS IT IS.Surrender Lab is the most natural, effective, and efficient way I’ve learned about Presence. It is a combination of various forms of meditation with thousands of years of experience, combined with my own experimenting with techniques as well. If you are really serious about getting the most out of life with mindfulness, based on my observations so far, I would recommend you commit to doing this particular 27 minute meditation every day for seven days straight as part of establishing your personal practice. It keeps getting deeper each time you do it. Once you’ve done this for at least 7 days consecutively, you will be prepared for the next level in Surrender Lab where we dive deeper into re-programming our subconscious to align with the ideal life we’d like to create for ourselves. For those who’ve struggled staying consistent before, I am confident you’ll see why building this foundation is critical, and can become a beautiful part of your practice you really look forward to. Here are some recommendations as we get started. Any level of participation in Surrender Lab will give you major benefits, but, If you decide you’d like to participate fully, and follow all of the recommendations, in my experience, and I cannot emphasize this enough, the benefits you will receive will be in direct proportion to your level of commitment. Ever since leaving Mormonism five years ago, I still get asked every now and then, "Do you believe in God?" or, “So now what do you believe in Kenn?” For a couple of years, I thought about it every day, and on a lot of the days, most of the day. In this episode, I share what I’ve come up with, as my answer for that...so far. Kenn's email kenn@kenn.meKenn's Experienced Truths1. IT IS ALWAYS NOW. Everything is AS IT IS no matter what we believe. 2. Everything and Everyone is connected and interrelated, and impacting everything else.3. The physical existence is a playground for creation, and is for discovering who we really are by having experience.4. Our mind / our ego / our judge helps us create, and to have experience, but our suffering begins when use the ego for individual identity.5. By surrendering our intellect for acceptance of everything ‘AS IT IS’ in the now, we are liberated from all self-sabotaging beliefs. 6. Everything and Everyone and is ALWAYS CHANGING.7. Increasing observation helps us see our positive or negative impact on EVERYTHING.8. Experiencing presence always trumps thinking about experiencing anything.9. Surrendering to the reality of what is right now, we discover the best of what life has to offer internally.10. In the now, accepting what is real, we are finally able to let go of our insecurities, anxiety, depression, cravings, insanity, violence within, etc. and discover the essence of our being.11. The ability to project time can be useful yet it is a psychological illusion. Life is like a dance of experience IN THE NOW, rather than a journey along a timeline.12. Believing in our version of history, or hoping for future fulfillment are both self-sabotage, resistance to truth, and perpetuates suffering and violence within at some level.13. We have the power to choose to accept our circumstances, walk away from them, or attempt to change them. Our power to choose only resides in the now.14. Suffering is a choice. When we resist WHAT IS, we choose to suffer. It is not good or bad, just a choice. We stop suffering when we choose to stop.15. Complaining under any circumstances is resistance to the reality of what is and causes suffering.16. When we shrink from pain, it increases. We gain balance, peace of mind, and learn to transform agitation into activation by lovingly leaning into the edges of our comfort zones...be they physical, emotional, mental, social, or spiritual, etc. 17. ANY resistance to full honesty—‘being truth’, is self-deception and leads away from love, and toward the choice to suffer. Love is experienced in direct proportion to complete honesty.18. Gratitude is a tool to accept the truth EVERYTHING can be used to help us become increasingly conscious, and points toward expanding into BEING LOVE in the present moment.19. Love ONLY exists in the now, and we always have access.20. Life is whole, complete, and full of love right now.21. Everything really is OK with everyone, right here, right now. Individual perceptions filter and resist this reality which keeps our mind / our ego / our judge focusing on differences instead of our interrelationship, and wholeness. 22. We gain wisdom by making our mind / judge / ego the Co-pilot, instead of the Pilot.23. We access TRUE LOVE to the depth, breadth, and magnitude we discover it internally.24. Acceptance is defined as a “willingness to tolerate” when we don’t agree or approve of something. It’s more challenging than many of us want to admit for those relationships that are really close to home. While we tend to simply accept that our friends are quirky or different, it’s harder to apply the same liberties to familial relationships because our expectations get in the way.Leslie and Leslyn share stories and examples of acceptance to demonstrate the challenge and resolution when someone we love engages in behavior that we find difficult to accept. They explain that acceptance is the willingness to experience ourselves and the lives that we live - as they are. They conceptualize the term “it is what it is” so that we understand what it means to be more present and based in the reality of what we cannot change. In order to change anything we have the power to change – we must see it clearly AS IT IS – not worse or better than it is – in order to change it accurately and reliably. If we want to turn sadness into something different, we have to stop resisting the sadness and accept its presence. The first step to anything is quite simply, acceptance. They recommend that the listener think of something that they’ve been challenged to accept, something not within personal control and to sit with it a few minutes each day. The Try This at Home tip is to see it as a part of your life and to actively accept. They remind us of the power of the Serenity prayer - having the serenity to accept…

For a band with dance in their name, they kinda make it hard with their heavy-core sound don't they but it seems that fans are going mental over Dance Gavin Dance heading back to Australia for a tour and we had to grab Will Swan for a chat all about it on this week's episode of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall. Swanny (as we've dubbed him) discusses the band's new album Artifical Selection and their passionate motivation to constantly release album after album, in comparison to other bands who tend to tour the same one for a few years. The guys are also known for dabbling into the realm of cover songs and (in some cases) they make the originals better than they were so podcast host Browny hit Will up about the possibility of them recording an album of covers in future. Plus there are stacks of New Music to get through including a double shot from metalcore singer Lauren Babic, who not only fronts the new band Crazy 88 (with YouTube star Jarrod Alonge and As It Is frontman Patty Walters), but also her original band Red Handed Denial who are set to release their new album next month and we play the debut single from it. There's also new stuff from Windwaker, New Years Day, Being Jane Lane, Simple Creatures and Fallujah, throwbacks from Alexisonfire, Story Of The Year, Veil of Maya and The Beautiful Monument + heaps more... #WoSUATW #DanceGavinDance #PostHardcore #ProgMetal #WillSwan #Alexisonfire #RedHandedDenial #Crazy88 #LaurenBabic #Windwaker #StoryOfTheYear #SOTY #AmityAffliction #TheAmityAffliction #TAA #VeilOfMaya #Fallujah #Metalcore #NewYearsDay #DLAUS2019 #TheBeautifulMonument #BeingJaneLane #Punk #SimpleCreatures #MarkHoppus #PopRock #WallOfSound #MusicPodcast

Welcome everyone to the Ian Hates Warped Tour Conversations! I know it's not summer anymore and that means the touring Warped Tour has ended (perhaps forever), but hey, it takes a while to get these episodes out, haha. Also, why put out Warped Tour material when everyone else was doing it at the same time? Not talking about Warped Tour all the time helps you miss it! Distance makes the heart grow stronger or something else emo like that...Anyway, Ian loves Warped Tour and this was the first year he was able to do in-person Warped Tour interviews! All interviews took place at the Mansfield date of Warped Tour on July 27th at the Xfinity Center. Ian was also not told what interviews he had until he showed up at the venue. That brought a lot of excitement, haha. For more information, you can listen to the Ian Hates Warped Tour Recap Special. But, to be brief, festival interviews are much different than what Ian normally does on Ian Hates Conversations. Everyone is put in one room. Everyone is talking at the same time. You're in a rush, both interviewer and band because you have a time limit and set times to get to. AND, there are bands playing right outside the room! Haha. The only reason you need to know all this is to, of course, set the mood, but also so you realize why these are live, raw, and unedited!
