«Zenobia Camprubí» En línea 18 diciembre 2018. 2 Diego Marín, Literatura española, Tomo 2: Época moderna (New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1968), p. 308. 3 Sal 84:1-2 (NVI), 3 (TLA), 5 (BLPH)

By unofficial count, mail-in, affidavit ballots provide margin The Dutchess County Democratic Committee said Friday (Nov. 15) afternoon that Dan Aymar-Blair, the Ward 4 representative on the Beacon City Council, has been elected Dutchess County comptroller, based on the latest vote totals it received from the Board of Elections that included mail-in and affidavit ballots. The Democrats said they received unofficial numbers that show Aymar-Blair with 72,624 votes and Republican Gregg Pulver with 71,693 with all or nearly all the vote counted. The BOE has not confirmed these figures and, as of 9 p.m. Friday, its website still showed election-night results with Pulver leading by 475 votes. The comptroller is the county's chief accounting officer and is responsible for auditing its departments and outside agencies funded by the county. "The people of Dutchess County want a comptroller committed to transparency, accountability and serving the public interest," Aymar-Blair said in a statement. "I look forward to bringing independent oversight and a fresh perspective to the office, ensuring every dollar is used wisely and in service of the community." Pulver told The Daily Freeman that he was conceding. "I have no regrets," the Pine Plains resident said of his campaign. "I'm proud we got over 70,000 votes." He could not immediately be reached by The Current for comment. Pulver, who served 10 years in the county Legislature, the last six as its chair, was named comptroller by then-County Executive William F.X. O'Neil two weeks after losing his bid for re-election to the Legislature. The position was open because Democrat Robin Lois had resigned to become the state's deputy comptroller for local government and school accountability. Aymar-Blair said he will step down from the City Council and his job overseeing business operations for the New York City public schools' special education program to assume the role of comptroller in January. He will complete the final year of Lois's term and said he plans to run for re-election in November 2025. The unofficial election-night results showed the candidates in a near tie. With all 171 precincts reporting, Pulver received 69,581 votes, or 50.13 percent, while Aymar-Blair had 69,106, or 49.79 percent, a difference of 475 votes of 138,799 cast, including 112 write-in votes. According to Dutchess County Democrats, those numbers included mail-in ballots counted through Nov. 2. Mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 5, and received by the Board of Elections by Nov. 12 could be counted. Adam Fusco, an attorney representing Pulver, said Wednesday that his client was "comfortably ahead" and expected to win. But the Dutchess Democratic Committee announced that same day that Aymar-Blair had taken a four-vote lead after the Board of Elections added more than 2,000 affidavit and military ballots to the count. The committee said that Aymar-Blair had 70,856 votes, compared to 70,852 for Pulver, with more than 3,000 mail-in ballots still to be processed. State law requires a hand recount if the margin of victory is 20 votes or less or 0.5 percent or less. Although state election law instructs county Boards of Election to make unofficial results available to the media and to post a running tally online, the Dutchess County BOE website has not been updated since 10:54 p.m. on Nov. 5. Board officials did not respond to a phone message and email requesting an up-to-date count. Michael Dupree, the chair of the county Democratic committee, said the board had provided him with the numbers cited but told him it would not be updating its website "until certification of final election results, which is several weeks, if not a month, away." Aymar-Blair filed a lawsuit in state court on Nov. 7 seeking "an injunction against the issuance of a certificate of election." He asked the Board of Elections to count 1,540 mail-in ballots that he said had been received by Nov. 4. There are also at least 3,261 affida...

This episode is sponsored by Infravia Capital Partners and Vauban Infrastructure Partners Few would deny that investment in the energy transition is an urgent priority across Europe. Without investment in renewable energy, along with a host of associated infrastructure, there is little hope of meeting net-zero targets. Moreover, as the Russian invasion of Ukraine has demonstrated, Europe's energy security depends on the continent harnessing its own renewable resources. Yet escalating costs, supply chain disruption and rising interest rates have complicated the investment picture. Fund managers must navigate a complex web of considerations to ensure they select assets that truly possess infrastructure characteristics. In this episode, Christoph Bruguier, chief investment officer at Vauban Infrastructure Partners, and Aymar de Tracy, partner in the infrastructure investment team at Infravia Capital Partners, tell Infrastructure Investor's Ben Payton that the outlook remains strong. Despite complications in the market, they agree that infrastructure funds can access enormous opportunities with a disciplined strategy around energy transition investing.

"In writing, what's really crucial is persistence. Every 'no' brings you closer to a 'yes'. And when you infuse your personal experiences into your stories, you're not just writing; you're breathing life into your characters. That's when your stories truly begin to resonate with your readers." — E.A. Aymar About E.A. Aymar Multiple Anthony Award-nominated E.A. Aymar's essays have appeared in the Washington Post, the Washington City Paper, Publishers Weekly, and more. He is a former member of the national board of the International Thriller Writers and is an active member of Crime Writers of Color and Sisters in Crime. He joined me on Uncorking a Story to talk about his career and latest novel, When She Left, which has been called crime fiction at its best by New York Times bestseller Wendy Corsi Straub. Key Takeaways Embrace rejection as a part of the writing process and do not let it deter you from pursuing your dream. Rejection and disappointments can serve as valuable teachers, providing insights and wisdom that can help improve your writing skills. Feedback from rejection letters and conversations can provide opportunities for growth and learning, offering nuggets of wisdom that can enhance your writing abilities. It is important to be both patient and persistent. E.A. mentioned that he started writing seriously in 1997, but his first book was not published until 2015. He expressed that his path to getting published was not a common or quick one, highlighting that it often takes time and perseverance in the writing journey. Despite facing challenges, including writing multiple books that were not picked up by publishers, he eventually found an agent he enjoyed working with, leading him to the successful publication of his book "The Unrepentant" a few years later. The author reflected on the struggles he faced, emphasizing the significance of staying motivated and feeling like he was fortunate to have achieved the goal of getting one book published after experiencing setbacks along the way. Don't be defensive when receiving suggestions for improvement, such as changing the title of your book. Instead, be open to considering advice from professionals in the field who may have valuable expertise and insights to offer. Be willing to "Kill Your Darlings," meaning to let go of elements of your work that may not be the best for the overall piece. Listening to experienced individuals and being open to making changes can ultimately lead to a stronger and more successful writing outcome. To catch Jake and Melissa, Chris Winters calls upon a group of assassins who work for his family, among them a man named Lucky Wilson. Lucky has built a life for himself as a real estate agent by day and, unbeknownst to his wife and daughter, a hitman for the Winters at night. But Lucky hasn't been himself ever since discovering his wife's affair, given to crying fits and panic attacks. He takes the job on the promise that he can leave their criminal network and attempt to rebuild the family life he desperately craves.

This week's episode of Parsing Immigration Policy brings a global perspective to the immigration debate with Nicolas Monti and Maxime Aymar, co-founders of L'Observatoire de l'immigration et de la démographie (OID), an immigration think tank based in Paris. The guests share information on immigration trends, policies, and public sentiment in France. The French organization was founded three years ago in response to the public's growing distrust in immigration policies in France. France, one of the first countries to experience massive levels of immigration, especially non-European immigration, has seen immigration become an especially polarizing political topic. It is at the forefront of French political debate and an important topic for all political parties; but, as Monti and Aymar explain, the conversation has primarily become an ideological conversation. OID fills a gap in French politics by providing non-partisan facts, research, and analysis of the immigration issue.Monti and Aymar explain immigration trends in France over the past four decades, and their impact on France's economy, culture, and society. They also explore what motivates French people to be in favor of or against higher levels of immigration. In a unique collaboration, OID, along with like-minded research organizations in Israel, Hungary, and the United States, has established the International Network for Immigration Research (INIR), of which the Center is a member. In his closing commentary, Mark Krikorian, host of the podcast and executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, highlights Lukeville, Ariz., the latest hotspot on the border. He references insights from the Israeli Immigration Policy Center, another member of INIR, emphasizing the importance of addressing “pull factors” for illegal aliens alongside physical barriers to maintain border security. Krikorian also emphasizes the role of the Biden administration's catch-and-release policies in incentivizing mass illegal immigration.HostMark Krikorian is the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies.GuestsNicolas Monti and Maxime Aymar are co-founders of L'Observatoire de l'immigration et de la démographie (OID), an immigration think tank based in Paris.RelatedL'Observatoire de l'immigration et de la démographie (OID)Israeli Immigration Policy CenterFollowFollow Parsing Immigration Policy on Ricochet, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts.Intro MontageVoices in the opening montage:Sen. Tiokasin spends the full hour talking about Indigenous resistance and cultural survival in Peru with María Blanco and Aymar Accopacatty.Aymar, who has been a frequent guest this year, is an intercultural artist and museum textile conservator. He is a lifelong student of his Indigenous Aymara heritage, in honor of his Native community of Qullana Socca, Puno, Perú. María Blanco is the daughter of Hugo Blanco Galdós, “a living legend, one of a constellation of elders who have left this time of calendars and progress and exploitation to live the life of plenitude and freedom in struggle.” — Manuel Rozental. María was born in Sweden. She speaks Quechua, is the mother of two, and is a member of the board of editors of “Indigenous Struggle.” María usually lives in Cusco, in a small community, working the land and organizing Indigenous resistance. She had to go to Sweden temporarily to make some income for survival as well as to move resources for “Indigenous Struggle,” the Journal (Lucha Indígena). Her father Hugo Blanco Galdós has said many things that need to be remembered. One of these statements: “I used to fight for land when I was young, now I fight for LAND. Don´t teach them Marxism Leninism, organize them to protect water and save mother earth.” (Very special thanks to our friend Manuel Rozental, a frequent and treasured guest, for introducing us to María and making it possible for her to appear on our show.) The chilling story of two conflicted sisters, their murdered brother, and the secrets a family hoped they'd never have to face. The murder of jazz musician and social activist Markus Peña doesn't come as a surprise to his estranged sisters. Melinda and Emily Peña know their controversial brother had enemies. After all, even they hadn't spoken to Markus since their mother's funeral two years ago.Who killed Markus? Was it someone trying to keep his latest protest song from publication? Was it the powerful and secretive uncle of his ex-girlfriend Rebecca? Or was it one of the other women Markus had callously abandoned? To unravel the truth, Melinda and Emily must first face their own demons. Melinda, a former social worker, suffers from PTSD—haunted by the people she failed to help and unable to maintain meaningful relationships. Emily also pushes people away—afraid she'll get hurt and afraid they'll find out she's Three Strikes: a masked vigilante who violently punishes abusive men.Markus wasn't a good man, but he was family. And it's up to his sisters to uncover his lifetime of lies and the truth of his death.Haunting, gripping, and relevant, No Home for Killers explores the conflicts that tear families apart—and the tragedies that force them back together.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio.
