In this episode we're excited to have a chat with Mitchell "Skip" Foley from Conte's Bike Shop in Lexington, MA.  This is a 2-for-1 episode as we get to not only learn about Conte's incredible cycling group rides but also about Mitchell's extraordinary journey as an athlete. In case you haven't heard, Conte's (with the help of B2C2) is running a very successful and very inclusive Sunday shop ride that is really adding to the  local cycling scene.  The shop ride offers something for everyone with 4 different groups, ranging from 16mph to 24+mph, and distances of approximately 35-50 miles in length.  And who better to tell us about these rides than Mitchell Foley, head of Conte's Outreach and Business Development?  Conte's may be relatively new to New England, but their impact on local cycling communities is anything but new . Since 1957, Conte's has been a cornerstone for cyclists, with 21 locations across the country, including Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and now Massachusetts. And out of all their shops, the Lexington location has quickly risen to the top after just two years!Mitchell is a local cycling legend in the New England community.  He's a former D1 football player and NFL prospect, turned endurance athlete.  He  has an impressive resume as a 5-time national cycling champion and the #1 ranked Cat 1 criterium rider in 2002-2003. Beyond his athletic achievements, Mitchell has worn many hats—real estate, coaching, personal training, and entrepreneurship with his company Gemini Performance . His journey includes overcoming significant challenges, including recovering from severe accidents and embracing sobriety since 2014. Macro investor Dan Morehead is bullish on XRP, he made positive statements about Ripple XRP on his interview with Raoul Pal. Zane Tackett has witnessed some of the crypto industry's biggest moments. And he recently took a post as a sales and business development executive at FTX, giving him a first-hand look at growth occurring in the derivatives market today. It comes as a notable time for that particular corner of the crypto space, given that more that 100,000 bitcoin options contracts – a historic number totaling over $900 million – is slated to expire this Friday. Tackett will have a front row seat, and he talked about the growth factors for the derivatives market on this week's episode of The Scoop. He also touched on his history in the space, stretching back to his role in helping found the international team at OKCoin, now OKEx, an early mover in crypto futures. Tackett moved from OKEx to become director of community and product development at Bitfinex. He was at the forefront of the exchange's response to the 2016 hack in which 119,756 BTC were stolen. "It was the worst period of my life," he said. "I think the initial 48 hours, I went 40 hours without sleeping, got two or three hours of sleep and was back at it. And you know, pretty much everyone on the team was the exact same way." After his time at Bitfinex, Tackett became head of OTC sales at B2C2 before moving to FTX this year. Everyone outside the country is expecting the arrival of China’s new sovereign digital currency. President Xi has recently been singing the praises of blockchain technology, the infrastructure for the new money. But how the story of China’s blockchain plays out is likely to depend on internal political struggles, says Scott Weatherill, our guest on the latest episode of the New Money Review podcast. According to Weatherill, chief risk manager, Japan for cryptocurrency market maker B2C2, the version that’s about to be introduced for China’s 1.4 billion people should be seen as part of a new anti-corruption drive by Xi. That’s because the new blockchain will enable the state to supervise every single financial transaction in the country. “This is all coming from Xi’s push to enact very difficult reforms that are going to cost a lot of elites in China a lot of money,” Weatherill says. Beijing knows what it has to do to rebalance the economy, says our interviewee—it needs to move the country away from too heavy a reliance on investment and get ballooning internal debts under control. The central authorities might also reap a political dividend. “The idea is transfer wealth from local governments and local elites back to blue collar workers and the poorest people,” Weatherill says. But Xi is facing political obstacles. “Why can’t they do it? Because there are vested interests throughout the various layers in the state-owned enterprises in China’s state capitalist system,” Weatherill says. The discussion then moves on to cryptocurrencies’ role in helping capital move out of China, bitcoin’s liquidity and market prospects for 2020.
