Welcome back to The Overlooked Dark Knight, the podcast that shines a light on Batman stories hardly anyone talks about! This time out your hosts, Andy and Mike, look at a pair of Batman stories that are set at and around Christmas! After a discussion about what this episode was originally going to cover, they get into Batman/Catwoman Special #1. Written by Tom King with art by the late John Paul Leon, this story details where Selina Kyle was on various Christmas days throughout her life. Then, after the Power Records Christmas Carol Caper (which, no fooling, contains Batman singing a jaunty tune as he and Robin walk down the street, they talk about Batman #247. This story, written by Denny O'Neil with art by Irv Novick and Dick Giordano, stretches across Christmas and New Year's and is...a lot. Andy and Mike want your feedback on this episode so they can read it on an upcoming show! You even have options in how you leave your feedback. The most direct way is to leave a comment right here on the site. You can also send all questions, concerns, fears and trepidations to overlookeddarkknight@gmail.com. Then there' the Facebook page, where you can also leave a Batman related question for Andy and Mike to answer at the beginning of the show. If you talk about this show on the social medias please include a #overlookeddk so the guys know where to find it. Next Time: No clue. Andy and Mike will be back in the new year with more Batman talk!

G'day, listeners! Our fiftieth episode brings some pretty cool content, a year now into our show! But first, be sure to checkout my YouTube channel, where I just posted an unboxing review of the new Marvel Legends Binary figure! This is the second hero-identity for Carol Danvers, and I go over her first appearance and history a bit in the video. Linked below! Then it's the usual News starting at 0:06:35, including an update on Moon Knight show speculation at 0:10:46, talk about Snowpiercer season 3 and the graphic novels it's loosely based off of, the confirmation of Mortal Kombat 2, and fresh news of Tom King's latest project, indie romance comics! I then present you with Netflix Live-Action He-Man & Toxic Fandom at 0:23:14, discussing the recent announcement of a new Masters of the Universe live-action movie, the previous (and delightful) Kevin Smith animated show, and the terrible behavior that spurned him from future similar projects. I love being a nerd, but there's a reason we're sometimes seen with a negative perspective, due to fans just like those. The weekly Comic Book Picks are at 0:30:19, discussing released from the last week of January like Death of Doctor Strange's finale, the Bat/Cat special and John Paul Leon tribute, the glorious return of Saga #55 and Monstress #36, Tom King being a massive bleeding heart romantic, and more. The Pull List for this week, Feb 1st and 2nd, starts at 0:52:47 and includes a satisfying amount of indie #1's, yet again! As well as the usual suspects. Finally, I fully discuss the Book of Boba Fett ep. 5 starting at 1:00:42, titled Return of the Mandalorian! This discussion covers Star Wars Legends and lore, Easter eggs wazzoo, history of Mandalore, fun facts, references to the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows as well as other Trilogy movies, and so, so much more. This was a winning episode, I don't think anyone can argue. Only two more in the season! I'll be back for another regular weekly episode on Monday the 7th of February, covering the penultimate episode of Book of Boba Fett, the weekly comic book pick and pull lists, and if there's interest, I'd love to do a bit on Afrofuturism! Hello world! I'm recording this week's "B" episode early on Thursday, but I still have a exciting, long episode for you all! After a brief bit of smaller news stories (including how the premier of Riri Williams' Ironheart will be in Wakanda Forever!), we go directly into the weekly comic book pick list. It was an enormous week of comics to discuss, but my favorites were easily the Trial of Magneto #1, Superman and the Authority #2, and Killer Queens #1! For an explanation on Tom King's Bat/Cat relationship as it's been laid out so far, and for how to understand the events of Batman/Catwoman, see episode 20A! After the comics are the shows, which this week means What If...? episode 2 on Disney+ and Titans season 3 episode 4 on HBO Max! The former held an episode titled "What if T'challa became Starlord?" and offered a ton of delightful alternatives to the Guardians of the Galaxy and various Avengers casts, while the former introduced a fan favorite villain in an episode named after her: Blackfire. Being enamored with her portrayal in the show so far, I did some research on Komand'r's comic origin and history to compare to her show version as we see it play out, all of which is discussed here. The two trailers that came out this week were for Star Wars Visions, an anthology anime series of 9 episodes created by seven top-tier Japanese animation studios, and the second was for Eternals, in which we got the first bit of plot details for the upcoming MCU film. I'm desperately excited about both projects, and have all the information available for them discussed in the episode. Finally, and importantly, I'm talking this week about Substack. If you're a comics fan, odds are you've heard this company name floating around your circles of late, and there's several valid reasons why. In this discussion, I cover the topics of: What is going on with Substack? What creators have signed on? What is the creator draw to Substack? Is this sustainable? How will this impact the comics industry as a whole? And, what are the criticisms? I hope I answer any questions or concerns you may have over this topic, but I'd also like to know the opinions on Substack and what they're doing right now, from other comics readers, specifically. Are you planning on subscribing? Will it replace your traditional pull list? Do YOU think it will last, or will drastically change the industry? Let me know your thoughts! I'll be back for episode 31A on Monday, August 23rd, discussing the coming comic book pull list for the week, possibly the finale of Superman and Lois, and whatever hits the news between now and then. Till then, party responsibly, live with empathy, and get sweaty about what you love. Zack and Fabby discourse about discourse, talk about Andros as a screen presence, and get very excited when the monster fall down!
Hello Monday! This week's "A" episode starts as normal, with the weekly comic book pull list! This week's incoming comics include a good deal of indie #1's some final issues, and three different Tom King titles! For an explanation on King's Bat/Cat romance as we've seen it play out so far, see episode 20A! The big TV event of the past few days was the finale episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1. I loved the whole thing, which was full of tension, passion, and emotion! All of which are discussed in depth, as well as theories for the next season and where characters will go from here. Finally, in the news, I discuss some theories I have for Titans season 3, the announcement of the Wonder Woman Evolution series, Nichelle Nichols' (see: Star Trek's Lt. Uhura) conservatorship situation, and the coming episode of What If...?, which will be sure to tug on all of our heartstrings just a bit. And don't forget, Shang Chi tickets are now on sale! I'll be back this Friday, August 20th with an episode that will include the weekly comic book Pick list, discussion of Titans episode 4 and What If...? episode 2, possibly as well as the episodes of Superman and Lois I've missed, but no promises on that one. In the meantime, have an excellent week, and stay sweaty! This week's episode involves the changes to the number of cards in a pack and shows off the first planned card pack. I also talk about two new creatures Batsy of Darkness and Angelic Kitten. Weekly Questions: -How should the XP System Work? Should it be based on monsters defeated/normal dnd rules or battles won to go up a level? - What do you think of giving each type (Beast, Fiend, Undead, etc) a special unique ability specific to each different type of creature? - If you know any artists that would like to help out please DM me on the Discord below. Hello on this Friday! Today's "B" episode starts with the regular comic book pick list, showcasing what was good and interesting in this week's comics! This week I have a lot to say about a few titles, including the start to the Hellfire Gala for the Marvel X-Men, the fifth of twelve issues of Batman/Catwoman, Jed McKay's ever-glorious Black Cat, and the final issue of Sean Lewis and Caitlin Yarksy's Bliss--one of the most touching single issues of a comic I have ever read. Seriously, if you pick up just one comic this week, make it Bliss #8, in order to read the incredibly poignant ending story. After comics talk is Superman and Lois, which itself was surprisingly touching, as well. I had to stop and talk a bit about how great the character of Lois Lane is portrayed as, and how awesome it is to see her continually working to better herself and get through her deep-seeded issues, no matter how perfect she seems on the outside. The news this week follows Netflix's Jupiter's Legacy and Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder! One was cancelled, and one finished filming--you get three guesses as to which is which, and the first two don't count. Sweet Tooth premiers on Netflix today, as well as another episode of the Bad Batch on Disney+! I'll talk about both on Monday's episode 21A, along with the coming comic book pull list and whatever additional news and speculation drops over the weekend! In the meantime, have some fun as we get closer to summer, and remain sweaty about comics, always.

Happy Friday everyone! This week's episode 11B starts off with my comic book picks of the week! I discuss what was so great about the premier issue of Silk vol.3, Tom King's Batman/Catwoman #4 and Strange Adventures #9, Beta Ray Bill #1 being a pleasant surprise, Johnathon Hickman's X-Men #19 and Decorum #7 (phenomenal interiors by Mike Huddleston!), and Black Cat and her new nemesis! It was such a great comics week, there's certain to be something for everyone. I actually do NOT discuss Superman and Lois ep. 6 this week, because it's been pushed back to May 18th, and I discuss why in the podcast! In the news and rumors segment, I talk about the greatness that would be Beta Ray Bill in Thor: Love and Thunder, Bart Allen being cast in the Flash TV series, some rumors about characters who might make it into the Eternals movie, and a fun (if somewhat pointless) exploration of who Rihanna would play in the MCU. The bad news of the week comes in the form of a DCEU announcement that we knew was coming, but it still hurts to have it confirmed. Finally, I talk about the new Bad Batch trailer and the Suicide Squad's second trailer, both of which look like they'll be a ton of fun! The episode wraps up with a note about my website, sensationalshegeek.weebly.com, where I will be uploading my Podcast Notes to later today, in case anyone prefers to read than listen to me, or for anyone hearing impaired. In any case, I'll be back Monday, April 5th to discuss the new episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the next week's comic book pull list, and more industry news! In the meantime, stay sweaty, and love animals.
Happy Monday! Today I'm talking thoughts and theories on WandaVision's sixth episode, and there is a LOT to cover! From Pietro to Monica's "contact," the episode is fully discussed here. Afterwards, I talk about Zack Snyder's Justice League, which had its "first" trailer yesterday, which in turn made it even more relevant to talk about the ongoing scandals surrounding writer/director Joss Whedon, who took over the original Justice League project after Snyder stepped away. Plus, in preemption to Batman/Catwoman #3 (of 12) tomorrow, I walk through Tom King's love story for the two DC characters, explaining the history as he's laid it out, how it relates to what's happening in the current series, and breaking down my thoughts and theories on the series so far. Finally, a note of explanation on the term "sweaty" and it's originator, Jon Schnepp, and some brief discussion on what I'm looking forward to in new comics this week. There's always a lot to talk about in this industry, so hour-long episodes might become the new norm...

It's time for the Christmas special on The Film Appraisers and this year Josh and Joe bring two, very contrasting films. From Josh, we get the 1992 sequel to Tim Burton's take on the dark knight, Batman Returns, starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito, and Christopher Walken. But Joe, actually brings his favorite Christmas film of all time, the 1996 comedy from director Brian Levant that puts up Arnold Schwarzenegger against Sinbad, Jingle All the Way.
