Today Heidi interviewed Amy Lloyd. Here is a little more about Amy and this episode. In Amy's words: "I graduated nursing school in 2011 and started working in the NICU. I travel nursed and ended up in Denver, CO for 7 years. I mainly worked in the NICU but worked for Nurse Family Partnership for 4 years (an amazing nationwide program for 1st time moms that qualify based on income!) I got married and moved to Asheville, NC in 2021. We got pregnant on the first try! I did the NIPT and found out we were having a boy! At my first appointment they mentioned I had a bicornuate uterus. Since hearing I had a higher rate of a breech baby I was pretty convinced he would be breech and I would have a scheduled c-section. “Normal” pregnancy. I felt really good. Worked night shift in the NICU until 39 weeks. I got COVID at 26 weeks pregnant. The recommendation then was to have a growth ultrasound. I had one at 34 weeks where they discovered the left side of his heart and aorta were small. I was referred to MFM in Asheville and then onto MFM and cardiology in Charlotte. I was induced at 39.2 at Atrium. I had a good induction…foley bulb, pitocin, epidural, AROM, pushed for 45 minutes. My baby immediately went to the NICU. His echo showed he had coarctation of the aorta and he had surgery at 3 days old! We were in the hospital for 2 weeks before coming home to Asheville. We experienced lots of feeding difficulties. He came home with a NG tube, had reflux, and a weak suck. I was basically exclusively pumping from the start. I weaned off the pump at 9.5 months postpartum. At 3 weeks postpartum I had severe abdominal pain leading me to be readmitted for IV antibiotics. They believe I had endometritis. My baby just turned 1 8/29/22. He is doing great and will continue to be followed by cardiology for life but hopefully should not need any further interventions!" 3 Key takeaways from the podcast that listeners will learn today: Flexibility Advocating for your family 3 Keywords that people would want to search when looking for content that you would provide in this episode: Congenital heart defect Epidural induction Exclusive pumping Favorite baby product or new motherhood product? Boppy for baby. I usually buy my friends a nice pair of pajamas as everyone is usually focused on stuff for the baby! Summary of guest experience – Currently live in Asheville, NC. Graduated nursing school in 2011 and have worked in the NICU as a RN ever since. Also have my CLC. Please link your contact information for me to share in the episode. A Middle Tennessee Business Podcast....subscribe/follow/rate/review at www.mmtbp.comOn May 8, 2024, a devastating tornado ripped through Maury county. Cap and Boppy, the duo behind Weather Down in Muletown, were studying the system days in advance. It isn't the first time their stunning accuracy warned the Columbia community about dangerous weather. The best part? They do it because they absolutely LOVE to study the weather. Federal safety regulators are urging consumers to stop using baby pillows that have been linked to 10 infant deaths but are still being sold on Facebook Marketplace, despite being recalled two years ago. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that Boppy Newborn Loungers are no longer legally for sale but it has found thousands of them on Facebook Marketplace since the 2021 recall began. The agency wrote to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook parent Meta Platforms, saying it had made repeated requests to have recalled items taken down from Marketplace. It cited the Boppy loungers as “a particularly egregious example” of a product that puts consumers at risk. The Boppy Co. recalled more than 3 million of its infant pillows due to suffocation risk in September 2021 — with reports of eight deaths associated with Boppy's loungers between 2015 and 2020. The CPSC said that two additional babies died shortly after the recall began. The CPSC is urging consumers to stop using the recalled loungers — as babies can suffocate if they roll over, are placed on the lounger in a position that restricts breathing or move off the infant pillow. Meta's online policy states that listings on Marketplace cannot promote or sell recalled products and encourages users to check current recalls before purchasing items. The company says that Marketplace posts featuring recalled products are removed when identified. CPSC said it has also made similar takedown requests to other online secondhand marketplaces and for other recalled products, including the recalled Fisher Price Rock 'n Play sleepers, which have also been linked to infant deaths. The Boppy loungers under recall are Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers. The products were sold online and at retailers nationwide, including Target and Walmart, between January 2004 and September 2021, according to the CPSC's original recall notice. Consumers can contact the Boppy Company to get a refund and for instructions on how to dispose of the products. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Essential oils are naturally occurring oils made by steam distillation or cold pressing the flowers, roots, seeds, fruit, or bark of plants. These concentrated extracts retain the essence of the plant's fragrance. Essential oils have long been a part of complementary and alternative medicine in aromatherapy, topical application, or ingestion. Natural remedies, like essential oils, are an attractive alternative for expecting mothers who wish to avoid chemicals or pharmaceuticals and utilize more natural remedies. Most information on essential oils comes from the marketing of the companies that manufacture them or their representatives. There are a lot of claims that essential oils can treat everything from common discomforts to severe illnesses. It can be challenging to determine which claims are valid and which may be exaggerated. This episode examines the safety of essential oils during pregnancy and the evidence of their effectiveness in treating pregnancy symptoms and improving your birth experience. It can be challenging to weigh the risks and benefits to decide whether getting the flu vaccine during pregnancy is right for you. Research shows that pregnancy can negatively impact foot health. One study showed that 50% of pregnant women reported issues in the feet, including unsteady gait, swelling, and increased foot width. While some foot issues disappear after you have your baby, others can create permanent changes in the structure of your feet. Many care providers will tell expecting mothers that foot problems regularly occur during pregnancy and are part of having a baby. Rather than brush off these symptoms as a side effect of pregnancy, let's examine the causes of foot issues and the evidence-based methods to prevent or relieve these problems. Many researchers have examined why mothers supplement with formula or wean their children before age one to address the low rates of exclusive breastfeeding. There are recurring themes throughout the scientific literature from many countries. There are over 3.6 million babies born every year in the United States alone. That creates a big market for companies that sell products geared toward new parents. Companies make everything you could imagine a new parent could use. This massive industry is estimated to reach over $225 billion in 2022. Preparing for a new baby makes it easy to get caught up in the consumerism of thinking you need everything. Marketing draws on your emotions to be a good parent and to keep your baby safe. Social media influencers can influence you to purchase particular products or brands. Plus, pregnancy is an exciting time, and buying things in preparation for your baby is fun. It can be overwhelming to think about choosing the right products, how much everything will cost, and where you will put everything. This episode will explain exactly what you need for your new baby, whether you are purchasing items yourself or adding them to a baby registry. Plus, download the Ultimate List of the must-haves, optional items, and what is unnecessary. Thank you to our sponsors 15% off Boppy.com with the promo code PREGPOD15. If you are pregnant and are expecting gifts, there are several reasons you should consider a baby registry. A registry helps friends and family know what you need and want. Without a registry, you will end up with items you do not need that you cannot return or exchange. A registry eliminates duplicates because once someone buys an item, the list updates to show someone purchased it. There are also perks for parents who create a baby registry. Many will give you a welcome gift that includes baby items, samples, and coupons. The majority of registries will also offer a completion discount. This means you can get a discount on any remaining items you purchase off your registry. This episode walks you through considerations when choosing where to register, the pros and cons of the top options, and tips for building your baby registry. The tradition of baby showers as we know them today began in the 1930s. The term "shower" comes from showering the expecting mother with gifts. Baby showers are so much more than presents. A baby shower is a celebration of becoming a mother and the new baby joining your family. You can choose to celebrate with all the prim and proper of a traditional baby shower, or you can opt for a get-together that throws all the rules out the window. However, you choose to celebrate your baby and becoming a mother, I hope you feel special and celebrated by friends and family. This episode covers everything you need to know about a baby shower, including etiquette, planning tips, and ideas to make your baby shower the perfect celebration. Did you (like me) acquire aches and pains in unexpected places after becoming a mama? Have you wondered how to take care of your body when your kids often require so much of you physically? If this sounds like you, you're going to love listening in on my recent conversation with my physical therapist friend Ashley Marsh. Her heart for helping with physical care and repair was apparent in every topic we touched: her journey to becoming a children's PT, how she enjoys bringing what she learns into her family's daily lives, how mom's bodies change and how we can care for them through pregnancy to post-partum and beyond. I also loved hearing the super helpful strategies, resources and products she shared - you bet I took crazy notes! Again and again came the much-needed reminder that taking care of ourselves is crucial to our ability to take care of our little ones as best as we can. Boppy lounger recall alert, CDC backs Pfizer booster shots, and should the contract to clean-up downtown Portland be renewed
Over 3 million infant loungers made by Boppy, the popular maker of baby products, are being recalled after reports of eight infant deaths between 2015 and 2020, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today, urging people to "immediately stop" using the loungers. The recalled products were sold at retailers including Pottery Barn, Target, and Walmart and Amazon.com from January 2004 through today, according to the CPSC. The loungers retailed for between $30 and $44 and were "sold in a variety of colors and fashions." Boppy also distributed about 35,000 of the recalled loungers in Canada, according to the CPSC. The news of the recall follows a report from Consumer Reports earlier this month that found seven recent infant deaths were tied to nursing pillows and infant loungers made by Boppy. It also comes one year after the CPSC issued a warning for caregivers about the risks of using pillow-like products for sleeping infants. Derricke has the details.

What an educational ep: Erica teaches Claire about Craigslist scams, and Claire schools Erica on the wild, wild world of baby registries. (Can you want a leopard-print carrier and not an infant??) You want more? We got more! It’s called Secret Menu, friends, and signing up will get access to Claire’s baby-registry, er, motherload. That cashier’s check Craigslist scam!! Vox has an excellent explainer “Why Cashier’s Checks Are Part of So Many Online Scams," and there’s a WalletHub guide to various cashier’s check scams and where to report them. Consider donating to organizations like the National Diaper Bank Network or National Birth Equity Collaborative if you have the resources to be very persnickety about your baby registry. Baby chairs and other places to put little people: BabyBjörn Bouncer (and its design-y comp: Betón Baby Bouncer), Charlie Crane Levo Rocker, Askr & Embla Sleep Pod (a prettier Dock-a-Tot), and Boppy with a custom cover (related: My Brest Friend). Sleeping solutions: The Snoo (you can rent them!), Moses baskets (like one from Kind Label in a Jolly Jumper stand), cribs like the Ikea Sniglar or the Babyletto Hudson or ones from Nestig or the (very fancy) Kalon Caravan, and pack ‘n plays from Guava Lotus or Graco or BabyBjörn. Baby carriers: Colugo Carrier, Sakura Bloom Ring Sling (an alt to a Solly Baby Wrap), BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Mini, and the very fashion-y Artipoppe.
