Prieteni, întâlnirea cu Dia Radu, jurnalist cultural a fost o reală încântare. O să descoperiți un om admirabil, un minunat intervievator, pasionat de munca sa și, nu în ultimul rând, curajos. With such an iconic name, it's no surprise that James Cadbury is obsessed with chocolate.  As you have probably guessed, James' great-great-Grandfather was one of the brothers that founded the now illustrious Cadbury's brand.  Growing up just down the road from the legendary Bournville site, James had an early fascination with chocolate from a young age. Despite beginning his journey in finance after university, he soon realized that his heart was elsewhere—immersed in the world of chocolate. With a desire to make his mark on the industry and having supported several start ups, James took the plunge, investing his hard-earned savings into his first chocolate venture, Love Cocoa.  While navigating the rollercoaster of start-up life and having great success with his first brand, it also became clear that the nation's growing love for plant-based milk chocolate was growing. With an opportunity to be the first chocolate in the UK market with oat milk, James launched his second brand, HIP. His team developed a product that was a true game-changer to the category, a great-tasting, dairy-free chocolate like the UK had never seen before. It skyrocketed to success and hasn't looked back since.  In this episode, James takes us behind the scenes, sharing the challenges of running two start-up brands, along with the dilemmas of whether to put his name on the packaging and the pros and cons that came with it. He also dives into the critical focus on sustainability for both of his brands, drawing inspiration from his pioneering ancestors. James explains why it was imperative for Hip to breathe new life into the plant-based chocolate category and stand out on the store shelves. If you enjoy this episode, please consider subscribing. If you have any suggestions for future episode topics, please email them to hello@tastehead.comFollow Brandt and Micah:https://www.linkedin.com/in/brandt-maybury/https://www.linkedin.com/in/micah-carr-hill-34a91811/Visit https://www.tastehead.com/ to learn moreFollow James:https://www.linkedin.com/in/cadbury/?originalSubdomain=ukLove Cocoa InstagramHIPInstagramLinks Mentioned:Cadbury - https://www.cadbury.co.uk/Property Moose - https://propertymoose.co.uk/Hotel Chocolat - https://www.hotelchocolat.comTony's - https://tonyschocolonely.com/uk/enDragons Den (James Cadbury Episode) - YouTubeMidday Squares - https://www.middaysquares.com/Shoe Dog - https://www.waterstones.com/book/shoe-dog/phil-knight/Kind Bag -  https://www.kindbag.co

Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair talk with Mary Publicover and Barry Jung about their experiences of the unraveling in their local communities and explore their stories about how genuine community is being formed where they live. Mary lives in Birmingham (UK) where she is deeply involved with Rowheath Pavilion Church, Bournville. With several others, she's established and co-hosts a Place of Welcome. Mary is a Companion of the Northumbria Community and was managing editor for ten years at the Journal of Missional Practice. Barry is a member of Granville Chapel, an established congregation in a central part of Vancouver (Canada). Several years ago, as a layperson, Barry realized there was little connection between his Christian life and the neighbourhood in which he lives. He began some small experiments in being with the people of his community. Out of these experiments came a whole new understanding of Christian life beyond going to church.-Links-For Alan J Roxburgh:http://alanroxburgh.com/abouthttps://www.themissionalnetwork.com/author/alan-roxburgh/https://journalofmissionalpractice.com/alan-roxburghTwitter: https://twitter.com/alanjroxburghlang=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/alan.roxburgh.127/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecommonsnetworkJoining God in the Great Unraveling https://www.amazon.ca/Joining-God-Great-Unraveling-Learned/dp/1725288508/ref=sr_1_Leadership,God's Agency and Disruptionshttps://www.amazon.ca/Leadership-Gods-Agency-Disruptions-Confronting/dp/1725271745/refJoining God, Remaking Church, Changing the World: The New Shape of the Church in Our Timehttps://www.amazon.ca/Joining-Remaking-Church-Changing-World/dp/0819232114/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2NHGW8KB7L0SQ&keywords=Alan+J+Roxburgh&qid=1687098960&s=books&sprefix=alan+j+roxburgh%2Cstripbooks%2C130&sr=1-3For Jenny Sinclair:Website: https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/from-jenny-sinclairLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-sinclair-0589783b/Twitter: https://twitter.com/T4CGFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TogetherForTheCommonGoodUKInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/t4cg_insta/For Mary Publicover:https://www.pavilionchurch.org.uk/https://www.northumbriacommunity.org/https://www.placesofwelcome.org.uk/https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/stories/pavilion-shaping-a-community-of-hopeFor Barry Jung:https://www.instagram.com/cambiecommons/?igshid=MmIzYWVlNDQ5Yg%3D%3D Get full access to Leaving Egypt at leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribe

The award-winning writer Jonathan Coe presents a portrait of Britain told through four generations of one family, in his latest novel Bournville. Set in middle England, in a suburb of Birmingham, he chronicles the years of social change post-war, and the events that both brought people together and divided them, from royal events and the World Cup to Brexit and Covid-19. The chocolate factory that features heavily in the novel, and was once at the centre of life in Bournville, has since been transformed in part into a theme park, no doubt offering an authentic chocolate experience. The journalist Emily Bootle turns her attention to what she sees now as an obsession with authenticity. In a collection of essays, This Is Not Who I Am, she unpicks the ideology surrounding the goal of ‘living our truth' amidst the fakery of digital culture and the illusion of infinite choice. The award-winning saxophonist and rapper Soweto Kinch also takes a long hard look at the state of the nation for his latest album, White Juju, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra. Conceived at the height of the pandemic the music is his response to lockdown, BLM, British history and the culture wars. He takes inspiration from European folklore, the African Diaspora and divisive national myths to create a unified modern tone poem. Producer: Katy Hickman

Bournville, Jonathan Coe's latest novel, ostensibly follows the life of Mary Lamb (née Clarke) from VE Day 1945, when she was a precocious young pianist, to the darkest depths of the recent pandemic, stopping off at some of the events that helped define (and redefine) Britain over the last seven decades. As we hop from the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, to the 1966 World Cup, through jubilees and the death of Princess Diana, we live not only alongside Mary, but also her parents, her husband, her children and grandchildren, (and in a wider sense the British people as a whole) seeing these events through their eyes, and feeling their sense of excitement or despair at the changes and upheavals in their world.Buy Bournville: https://www.shakespeareandcompany.com/product/7673827/coe-jonathan-bournville*SUBSCRIBE NOW FOR BONUS EPISODESLooking for Friends of Shakespeare and Company read Ulysses? https://podfollow.com/sandcoulyssesIf you want to spend even more time at Shakespeare and Company, you can now subscribe for regular bonus episodes and early access to Friends of Shakespeare and Company read Ulysses.Subscribe on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/sandcoSubscribe on Apple Podcasts here: https://podcasts.apple.com/fr/podcast/shakespeare-and-company-writers-books-and-paris/id1040121937?l=enAll money raised goes to supporting “Friends of Shakespeare and Company” the bookshop's non-profit, created to fund our noncommercial activities—from the upstairs reading library, to the writers-in-residence program, to our charitable collaborations, and our free events.*Jonathan Coe was born a few miles from Bournville in 1961. Novelist and writer Jonathan Coe is our guest this week. He is the author of several novels which your host holds dear, including What A Carve Up! and The Rotter's Club and his latest book, Bournville, is published this week. A master of social & political satires, state-of-the-nation sagas and generation-spanning comic narratives, Jonathan often plays with the form and, as we find out, before he discovered influential writers such as B.S Johnson and Flann O'Brien he was introduced to experimental comic prose via Spike Milligan's 1963 novel Puckoon. His enthusiasm for comedy as a youth drove him to seek out more Milligan as well as the likes of David Nobbs and he built up a sizeable library of comic novels, sitcom tie-in books and comedy books in general. He talks to Tyler about the comedy and humour he grew up with, especially the work of Milligan, and how it informed his way of looking at the world. 'Bournville' will be published by Viking on 3rd November. This episode is in collaboration with QUAL360 North America.  Our guest today is Nick Graham, the Global Head of Insights & Analytics at Mondelēz.  Mondelez traces its roots to the National Dairy Corporation, which was founded in 1923.  One year later, the Kraft Cheese Company was founded and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.  In 1930, National Dairy was acquired by Kraft.  Fast forward to September 7, 2009, Kraft made a hostile takeover bid for the British company, Cadbury, makers of Dairy Milk and Bournville chocolate. This bid was eventually successful.  In August of 2011, Kraft Foods announced plans to split into two publicly traded companies, an international snack-food company and a North American grocery company. The snack-food company, called Mondelez, would be the legal successor of the old Kraft Foods, while the grocery company would be a new entity known as the Kraft Foods Group. The split was completed in October 2012. It was structured so that Kraft Foods changed its name to Mondelez and spun off Kraft Foods Group as a new publicly traded company. Today, Mondelēz, is an American multinational candy, food, beverage, and snack food company based in Chicago, Illinois. Mondelez has an annual revenue of about $26 billion and operates in approximately 160 countries. 039 - Why is Cadbury Bournville now not vegan? The dangers of 'accidentally vegan' products

What's going on at Cadbury? Chocolate giant Cadbury recently caused an uproar amongst vegans when they updated the ingredients list on their 'Bournville Giant Chocolate Buttons' to include milk. We've seen a number of companies change their recipes and make an 'accidentally vegan' product no longer vegan, but the mystery here is that Cadbury says they haven't changed the actual recipe of the product - the milk has always been there due to heavy cross-contamination from the other products they make. So what's actually going on at Cadbury? What made them now decide to disclose the milk in their Bournville range and what does this mean for other 'accidentally vegan' products? David takes a look at what we can learn from this and why food transparency, and creating 'inclusive' products that everyone can have (no matter what their dietary preferences and allergies) is good for vegan businesses. Fazenda Inglaterra is a farm we've been buying from for over ten years, and it's one that I am very proud to be working with and linked with. The owner is my very good friend, Stephen Hurst. To tell the story of Inglaterra, I'll hand this over to Stephen of the Hurst variety to tell you how he came to own 'Inglaterra': “Maybe it had always been an idea in the back of my mind – so a couple of years ago when some friends in Brazil mentioned that a small coffee farm was for sale, I had a look. The farm's name (Fazenda Toca Da Onca) means 'hiding place of a small wildcat'. The locals now call the farm 'Inglaterra'. The previous owners had abandoned Toca Da Onca/Inglaterra. So we had to start again, almost from scratch. Some surviving coffee trees were pruned right back and the coffee that you are now drinking is that re-growth from the original old trees. The farm is located near the lovely spa town of Poços de Caldas in the coffee-growing heartlands of Brazil's Minas Gerais state. The farm's elevation is 950–1300 metres, and it has rich soil. It's on the edge of an ancient caldera/super volcano, whose outline can be seen on satellite images. 50% of the farm is virgin Mata Atlantica forest and as long as I own it, it will stay that way. I am replanting some areas with the help of my local friends Gabriel and Cristiano, without whose assistance this project would never have started." This is a naturally processed Bourbon lot. To find out more about what this means, please make sure to have a look at our natural processing video and also our article on the Bourbon varietal. Here's To The Crazy Ones: Video - https://vimeo.com/394947044 In every generation, there are one or two people who change the rules. They are game-changers, with such vision, that everything that comes after them is completely different. William Wilberforce, Emmeline Pankhurst, Martin Luther King. It’s easy to see how important these people are. But, what we so easily forget is the pain and opposition that they had to endure as they went about changing the world. And that’s the thing with challenging and changing the status quo. People don’t like it. Lots of people don’t like it! And the same is true for followers of Jesus. It always has been, and always will be. Jesus so changed the world and its norms and patterns, that ever since followers of Christ have been called to challenge the status quo. And that often means painful opposition. Maybe we need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Maybe, just maybe, we might dare to see extraordinary things happen among us! The Masks We Can All Take Off Video - https://vimeo.com/392963977 Bible Reading - Book of Acts (Chapter 5, verses 1-11). There’s no doubt that we live in an age of the individual. An era when everyone is valued and empowered to dream big dreams and achieve big things. At least that’s what we want to believe is true! When you look at the evidence, though, our age of greater independence and apparent empowerment has actually led to greater and greater emotional and relational strain. It’s almost as if the more pressure we put on ourselves to be somebody, the greater the burden becomes. And so we wear masks - in real life and on social media - pretending to be something we are not. The same was true for the first followers of Jesus. This story shows two people who pretended to be something they were not. And the effects of this pretence was dramatic! Perhaps it’s a necessary reminder to be the kind of community where we all have the freedom to take our masks off, and discover the joy of not needing to pretend any more. Video - https://vimeo.com/391244485 Imagine that one day you receive a large inheritance from a long-lost uncle. What would you do with it? Your immediate answer can be quite telling! Yes, sure, we know we’re supposed to want to give it away...but so often we immediately think of things we would buy. It’s almost as if money and possessions have a greater hold on us than we dare to admit. In the 16th Century, the German priest Martin Luther described how people go through 3 different conversion experiences in their journey of faith in Jesus - their heads, their hearts...and their wallets! What he meant was that, so often, the way we use our money can be the most challenging aspect of our lives (and not just because we wish we had more of it!). For the first followers of Jesus, they had experienced such radical generosity from God that it totally changed how generous they were with each other. So much so, that there was ‘no needy person among them’. Now, that is radical generosity! To find out more about Riverside Church please visit: https://riverside-church.org.uk/

Maybe, just maybe, we might dare to see extraordinary things happen among us! Does Prayer Make Any Difference? Video - https://vimeo.com/388228991/2d964a852c In survey after survey, most people admit to praying at some point in their lives. Whether or not people do it as some sort of superstition, or genuinely believe that prayer works, most of us pray. Why? Perhaps it is because we all need hope beyond ourselves. As a society, we want to believe we are in control of our destiny. But at some point we all realise that we aren’t. Things happen, life doesn’t work out how we planned. And it is then that we realise we need help and hope. For the earliest Christians, prayer was as natural as breathing. God was doing something undeniable among them - the world had changed – and prayer was the only appropriate response when they needed hope, help and direction. And perhaps as they prayed, it helped them remember that God really was in control too. Maybe the same is true for us? A situation when circumstances are completely out of your control, and you just have to hope that something, anything, happens to change those things and you can’t do anything about it. When we look at the ancient world, we easily forget that they lived lives that were largely out of their control. When illness came, or difficult times, there was often nothing they could do about it. They knew both what hope looked like, and what false hope felt like. They were desperate for rescue, and when con-artists offered healing (as they regularly did) they were hopeful, but sceptical. And so, when the early Christians started seeing genuine healing happen, everyone took notice. Questions were asked, and the evidence was undeniable. People began to see that there really was genuine hope, and that God really was at work. To find out more about Riverside Church please visit: https://riverside-church.org.uk/

Video - https://vimeo.com/386514421/ee8114f027 In a recent interview, a Silicon Valley executive confessed that "I don’t want the world to be fixed, if I’m not the one fixing it". It was an honest admission that many of us can identify with. We want to be in on the action, playing our part in history. We want our lives to really count. We want the story of our lives to be one that is worth telling! But what if the story of our lives is actually not about us at all? What if we are really part of a much, much bigger story? As we read about the earliest followers of Jesus in the book of Acts, we discover that they had a very distinctive view of their lives. They knew that what was happening was a tiny part of a massive picture. In fact, they knew that their lives only counted because of that much, much bigger picture. It was only as they discovered how small they were, they saw how big God really is. When you dream about the kind of world that could be, what is it like? How do people relate? What happens? What doesn’t happen? In the ancient world, life was very hard. With no welfare state or NHS it was up to you, and those around you, to survive and get by. We can easily forget just how precarious life was. One bad illness or poor harvest was not just inconvenient, it could mean total disaster. And so, when this strange group of people started living in a radically different way – sharing their possessions, caring for outcasts, healing the sick - people began to really take notice. It was almost as if they were creating a different world. 'Title: I Can't Help It By: Judy Moore Bible Reading: (Acts Chapter 4, verse 20) Recorded: Sunday 05/01/2020 at our Bournville gathering. Description: Part of our teaching series called '#AGAIN' looking at the early chapters in the book of Acts in the Bible. Our hope and prayer as we explore these studies together is that God would begin to awaken us to what he is doing and will do again. Maybe, just maybe, we might dare to see extraordinary things happen among us! Title: I Can't Help It When we think of the word ‘Christian’, we tend to think of an established religion with churches, prayer and doing good things. But when we look back to the very first Christians, we get to see something much more raw and unstructured. The book of Acts is simply an account by eyewitnesses of the very first Christians. What becomes very clear, very quickly, is that something dramatic had happened…this wasn’t an attempt at establishing a religion, or starting an institution. They were simply a random group of people who’d seen something incredible. And they simply start changing the world as a result! They didn’t have to ‘work themselves up’ to be revolutionaries, they had simply seen something and heard something so breathtaking that had changed everything, for ever. And the question for us is - could this happen again? Title: Whatever You Put Your Hands To By: Judy Moore & Ruby Worthington Bible Reading: Colossians Chapter 3, Verses 15-24 (Focus – Verse 23) Description: Part of our teaching series called 'Everyday You'; looking at the impact we can have in our everyday worlds. Wherever we find ourselves, whatever we find ourselves doing, we have the possibility of seeing the good news of Jesus at work. Recorded: Sunday 03/11/2019 at our Bournville gathering. Whatever You Put Your Hands To: Sometimes our lives seem insignificant. Sometimes, we wonder if the places that we spend the majority of our time, the jobs we do, the responsibilities we have, actually achieve anything of value. In this passage, we begin to see the worth of everything. That everything has potential to be of worth - as an act of worship. For guests who aren’t yet Christians, this theme enables them to see the potential of even the tiniest acts. Small things really are big things, because we have a heavenly father who is interested in every aspect of our lives.
