On the version of Hot off the Wire posted March 19 at 7:15 a.m. CT: JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Six former Mississippi law enforcement officers who pleaded guilty to a long list of state and federal charges for torturing two Black men will be sentenced by a federal judge starting Tuesday. U.S. District Judge Tom Lee will sentence two defendants each day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each faces the potential of decades behind bars. The former law officers have admitted to subjecting Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker to numerous acts of racially motivated torture. In a January 2023 episode, the group of six burst into a Rankin County home without a warrant and assaulted the men with stun guns, a sex toy and other objects. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has extended its block, for now, on a Texas law that would give police broad powers to arrest migrants suspected of illegally entering the U.S. while the legal battle it sparked over immigration authority plays out. Opponents have called the law, known as Senate Bill 4, the most dramatic attempt by a state to police immigration since an Arizona law more than a decade ago, portions of which were struck down by the Supreme Court. The Texas Attorney General has said the state’s law mirrored federal law and “was adopted to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border, which hurts Texans more than anyone else.” NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump on Monday charged that Jews who vote for Democrats “hate Israel” and hate “their religion,” igniting a firestorm of criticism from the White House and Jewish leaders. Trump, in an interview, had been asked about Democrats’ growing criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his handling of the war in Gaza as the civilian death toll continues to mount. He responded, “I actually think they hate Israel." He went on to say that: “Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion. They hate everything about Israel and they should be ashamed of themselves because Israel will be destroyed.” LONDON (AP) — A British newspaper says Prince William and his wife Catherine have been filmed at a farm shop near their Windsor home. It's the first reported footage of Kate since she had abdominal surgery for an unspecified condition two months ago. The Sun published a short clip late Monday that appeared to show the couple smiling as they walked together, carrying shopping bags. It said the footage was taken on Saturday. The couple’s Kensington Palace office did not comment. The palace has said Kate will return to official duties after Easter, likely once her children go back to school on April 17. Feverish and at times fantastical speculation has swirled about Kate’s condition during her absence. FRAZIER PARK, Calif. (AP) — The California Lottery has revealed the name of one of the winners of the second-largest U.S. lottery jackpot, last October’s $1.765 billion Powerball bonanza. The lottery says Theodorus Struyck represents a group of winners who bought the ticket at a store in the small Kern County mountain town of Frazier Park. Kern County TV station KGET found no one home at Struyck’s house after his name was released Friday but did interview two neighbors. One describes him as adoring his grandchildren and pleasant to have around. The jackpot was won on the 36th draw in that Powerball sequence, a long run that allowed the sum to grow enormously. PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) — The family of boxing great Roberto Durán says he has received a pacemaker after being hospitalized in Panama City on the weekend. Durán's family has posted on his social media that "the surgery in our champion, a pacemaker implant, was totally successful.” The 72-year-old Durán suffered health issues on Saturday due to an atrioventricular blockage. One of his sons, Robin Durán, says his father needed the pacemaker because his heartbeats were “a bit irregular due to the obstruction of the artery.” Robin Durán says his father was well when he arrived at the hospital, where exams detected the blockage. Roberto Durán was a world champion at four different weights and retired in 2002 at age 50. We're going deep with Democratic candidates on the primary ballot for Congress and for the California State Assembly. Gil Cisneros is running to replace a retiring Grace Napolitano for CA 31 in the San Gabriel Valley. And local businessman and Swing Left organizer Steve Pierson is running for the 44th Assembly district in California.Gil is a former Naval Officer who served previously in California's 39th district and as Under Secretary of Defense in the Biden Administration. Gil and his wife won $266 million dollars in California's Mega Millions Lottery. They have put the windfall to wonderful use, setting up scholarship funds across the San Gabriel Valley.  We talk to Gil about the great hypothetical question, “What would I do if I won the lottery?” And his ability to stay that course once dream became reality. We ask him why he left the Republican Party in 2008, we discuss the issues that concern his district like immigration, homelessness, transportation, and the environment. Gil is eager to get to work advocating for veterans, gun safety reform, economic opportunity for working families, climate action, defending women's rights and furthering the diversity programs he credits with his own pathway to success.Steve Pierson came to politics very naturally. His father worked on The Great Society in the LBJ administration. Steve took a detour into the entertainment industry, but after the election of Trump he spearheaded Swing Left, a grassroots organizational effort to flip purple districts blue.Steve's assembly district will cover much of the East San Fernando Valley and he has already travelled to Sacramento to meet with members, build relationships and discuss future legislation that could best serve his district. Steve tells us that California's state house super majority allows them to make groundbreaking laws that serve as models for the country in clean energy, transportation, gun safety and health care.  Steve looks forward to using his skills as an organizer and his background in entertainment to build strong teams and work towards passing CalCare – California's Medicare for All Plan — taking climate action, addressing our homeless crisis and ensuring that those seeking treatment get the support they need.Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending Archie on Brit Box and Still on Apple +.Californians! Barbara Muschietti. What can I say about this fierce Argentinian woman? She’s the producer of horror films I’d never thought I’d watch, much less enjoy. She is a true inspiration and a freakin’ delight. Barbara produced the record-breaking box office hit “IT,” an adaptation of the Stephen King Novel. The film scored the biggest opening weekend ever in more than 30 markets, crossing the $700 million milestone and making it the highest grossing horror film of all time. The highly anticipated second installment, IT, CHAPTER TWO. comes out this Friday, September 6th. I am terrified and exhilarated and I simply cannot wait. Prior to IT, Barbara produced/co-wrote the feature film MAMA, based on the short film of the same name. The film starred Jessica Chastain and had Guillermo del Toro as the executive producer. It was one of the top earners of 2013. What’s unique and special about Barbara is that she has worked with her brother, writer/director Andy Muschietti, for over two decades. They have collaborated on all of their projects, across film, TV, and commercials. They owed a commercial/TV production company in Spain called Toma 78, where she produced hundreds of commercials for clients like Coca Cola, Mercedes, Pepsico, Ford, and the California Lottery. During part 1 of our chat, we discuss ambitious about oneself, understanding what is ‘soft money’, and how we both jumped the fence into Hollywood. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this week’s episode!

Welcome to another Adventure! episode where you are given the choice of opening two giant crates; one marked "Good Knight", the other "Evil Knight". In this obvious morality test, which will you choose? Also which one randomly becomes a Narnia adventure with very little actual knights? Paul is this episode's DM (Dom Moschitti) and takes Chad and Dom (non-DM, but also a DM) through this tale of multiple choice. Opening banter: The boys develop the Goosebuds movie adapatation, badly recapping the 'IT group love scene', Trill Stine, and the California Lottery.  You can support the show and get access to bonus episodes at patreon.com/goosebuds Follow us on Twitter @GoosebudsPod Edited by @RealKevinCole Original music by sethearnest.net

James Slatic is a marijuana business pioneer. One of his past business ventures set the standard for packaging medical marijuana. Another innovated vape cartridges and other products. The successful businesses he's built and his highly publicized ongoing legal battles with the district attorney’s office have made Slatic one of the most recognizable faces of the green rush that's sweeping the state as entrepreneurs jostle one another to find their place in the newly legal industry. But before all that, Slatic was a serial entrepreneur who made lots of money, and lost lots of money, time and again. In the latest episode of I Made it in San Diego, a podcast illuminating the stories behind the region’s businesses and entrepreneurs, Voice of San Diego's Scott Lewis sits down with Slatic to talk about the ups and downs of building his many businesses. Slatic's helped build restaurant software, started an internet business that helped unsigned bands get record deals, ran an organic spice company and started a company that made and installed official signs for the California Lottery. He says he can't help but spot business opportunities and go after them with everything he's got. "In an entrepreneurial business we say, 'In niches there are riches,'" he tells Lewis.
