When we're wrestling with experiences that challenge our identities or our confidence—like failures at work, relationship struggles, or letting go of old belief systems — it can be tempting to reach for positive self-talk that pushes back against the difficult feelings we might be having. In today's guided practice, Caverly Morgan offers something much sturdier, what she calls unconditional reassurances. In this practice, we're not just saying the opposite of what we're feeling, hoping that it will be true. Rather, it's about anchoring into a deep-down sense of worthiness and compassion that's always present, regardless of how well things are going for us or how great we feel about ourselves in any given moment. This meditation is part of our Powerful Women of the Mindfulness Movement series, where we're sharing guided practices from the women featured in our 2025 special edition of Mindful magazine. Studies show there has been a rise in mental illness over the past few years, with one out of every four adults reporting experiences with the disease. However, as today's storyteller reminds us, there is HOPE! Aimee Caverly, from our community group in Raleigh, North Carolina, vulnerably shares her story of battling mental illness for most of her adult life. From extreme anxiety, fear, and paranoia to delusional visions, intense lies from the enemy, and multiple trips to the psychiatric hospital, Aimee is raw about the suffering she faced as she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. It wasn't until she accepted her diagnosis and turned to the Lord that she found healing, purpose, and hope, knowing God can bring light into the darkest of places. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: - It is imperative to have God's Word infused in your life because “self” creeps towards the negative. - When you don't claim your true identity, you claim the lies of the enemy. - Following Jesus is a lifelong process of God making us more like Him. Will, GG, and Jason discuss Will's eclectic background researching ‘urban renewal', the cyclic nature of society, urban decline and polarization, as well as his ‘escape' to the exurbs to become a low-tech, permacultural, self-sufficient homesteader and the reality checks he's received in terms of producing enough food and battling invasive species. Will Caverly lives on a permaculture homestead in Southeastern Pennsylvania with his family. He writes at his substack, The Mercenary Pen, and most of his work can be found at www.willcaverly.com. His recent article for Front Porch Republic, "There's No More Room: Toward an Anarcho-Pastoralism", reflects on his ten years of homesteading in response to civilizational decay. He is currently working on a book on the intersection of eminent domain and environmentalism in mid-20th century Philadelphia.

Before taking the stage as Bobby in “Stephen Sondheim's Company by Deaf Broadway,” Garrett Zuercher shared how the all-deaf theater company began. Zuercher says he never intended to start a theater company, but during a Sondheim watch party over Zoom, he noticed the captioning was “not adequate” for a Deaf audience. “Sondheim is famous for his complex music, his overlapping rhythms – two songs happening simultaneously – and captions really can't reflect that,” Zuercher said. So, Zuercher, and his friends, who include James “Joey” Caverly, from Hulu's “Only Murders in the Building,” decided to do something about it. They created a company of Deaf actors using American Sign Language as individuals. Deaf Broadway changed the audience experience by allowing the audience to follow each actor using ASL for their role. Traditional theatrical performances tend to use an interpreter that signs everything, without regard to who said it. This makes the experience of seeing a Sondheim show easier to follow. The show in New York drew a huge audience of 1,100 people. Caverly, who directed the performance, offers a simple explanation for the success of the all-Deaf theater group. “We have a lot of heart,” Caverly said. As for inspiration, Zuercher attributes seeing a televised performance of Audra McDonald delivering the song, ‘Where I Hang My Hat Is Home.' “I grew up a deaf boy in Wisconsin, in rural Wisconsin. Farms and cows and corn and Broadway was unattainably far,” Zuercher said. He added: “I was just captivated by how she physicalized the role and how she delivered that song. And I told myself, someday I'm going to New York to do that.” And now, as he takes on Bobby, he gets to play the role he's always wanted. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Jesse Caverly reads his poem "Orphanage," and Jonathan McGregor reads his poems "Nebuchadnezzer" and "Catch for Us the Foxes." Jesse Caverly was born an hour outside of Boston, but he and his mother quickly became nomads. He doesn't remember much about Tucson and everything about Hawaii. There, he had a small white terrier as a pet. There, he collected comic books and ate guavas fresh off the branch. Then they moved to California, high school was all right, college didn't happen, but life did. He is now a storyteller, proud father of a wilding, and an occasional poet. He resides in Arcata, Humboldt County. Jonathan McGregor's creative work has appeared in Gulf Coast, Image Journal, Ruminate Magazine, Relief Journal, Dappled Things, Genealogies of Modernity, and Hyped on Melancholy. He is the author of the academic book Communion of Radicals: The Literary Christian Left in Twentieth-Century America (LSU Press, 2021). 01/07/2023, Caverly Morgan, dharma talk at City Center. This dharma talk is based off Caverly's new book, The Heart of Who We Are: Realizing Freedom Together, published by Sounds True. Have you ever found yourself identified with a self who is on a mission to annihilate the self? Have you found yourself believing you have to get rid of in order to experience truth? Believing that the conditioned mind can take charge and try to control and omit thoughts, experiences, people is a distortion of a negating, or Neti Neti, approach. And we do it in the name of spiritual practice. In this talk we explore this topic conceptually as well as through our own direct experience.
When Caverly Morgan reentered society after eight years as a Zen monk, she was confronted with a question many of us are asking these days: Considering the enormity of the problems before us, how can one individual's spiritual practice make a tangible difference in our world? In this podcast, Tami Simon speaks with Caverly about her new book, The Heart of Who We Are, and the connection between self-realization and collective transformation. Tune in as they explore these topics and more: the difference between the absolute and the relative; introducing teens to inquiry practice; self-improvement vs. self-realization; the core experience of who we are in our depths; the power of community; meeting our deepest needs; “changing costumes within the dance of suffering”; connecting with others “essence to essence”; broadening public access to contemplative practices; escaping the trap of perfectionism; letting go of our conditioning, individually and collectively; egoic behaviors versus “acts of being.” This episode first aired live and on video on Sounds True One. What does it mean to be in touch with the heart of who we are? That question is at the core of The Heart of Who We Are. Written by Caverly Morgan, a meditation teacher, author, speaker, and nonprofit founder, the book offers a pathway to contemplate such topics as our interconnectedness, our beingness, and the things that get in the way of us feeling whole and complete. This week we look at how awareness practices and contemplative technologies can transform our understanding of ourselves and the world. Guest Bio Caverly Morgan is a meditation teacher, author, speaker, and nonprofit founder. Today, on The Mindful Minute, I am sharing a conversation with meditation teacher and author Caverly Morgan about her new book, The Heart of Who We Are: Realizing Freedom Together.Caverly is a meditation teacher, author, speaker, and nonprofit founder. She is the founder and Lead Contemplative of Peace in Schools—a nonprofit which created the nation's first for-credit mindfulness class in public high schools. She is also the founder of Presence Collective, a community of cross-cultural contemplatives committed to personal and collective transformation. In this episode, Caverly and I really hone in on the phrase “realizing freedom together” and explore what this means in relation to our meditation practice, which far too easily can feel singular and isolated when we aren't practicing in community. We talk about book clubs vs. book collectives; about freedom, community and privilege; and what it means to stop imagining that liberation comes only when ‘I' as a singular being awaken. We go deep, y'all, and yet, I feel like we barely scratched the surface. Perhaps we'll ask Caverly to come back and share more!Make sure you listen all the way to the end. Caverly leads a 20-minute guided meditation inviting us to reflect and create awareness around all the self-imposed beliefs we hold onto about our separateness. In this episode Bill interviews Spiritual Teacher and author Caverly Morgan and the focus will be her newest book The Heart of Who We Are, which is endorsed by many spiritual leaders including Rupert Spira.“Transcendence and transformation. In The Heart of Who We Are, Caverly deftly holds two seemingly opposing truths—our shared being of oneness whose nature is peace, and our shared world of apparent separation and its suffering—and invites us to explore how our true nature might find its fullest expression in both ourselves and the collective. This beautiful and courageous book not only provides a way for us to explore who we are and how we are in the world but stands as a shining example of what it means to do both.”-Rupert Spira, teacher of nonduality, author of The Nature of Consciousnessand Being Aware of Being AwareLearn more about the The Awareness Podcast and access show notes for every episode at: www.teachersofgod.org/podcastLearn more about The Teachers of God Foundation at: www.teachersofgod.org Original music by Omashar

Wendy Caverly is a networking coach and connections facilitator. As the old saying goes, “it's not what you know, but who you know”. But how do you get to know those people? By networking! Networking is the open exchange of knowledge while connecting with others. Separate from selling and marketing, networking is most effective when the future value of the connection being made is unknown. The key is to discover in what form that value will take. With 20+ years of both entrepreneurial and networking experience and over 7 years of dedicated referral network facilitation, Wendy brings her focus on networking as a skill and knowledge, to professionals looking to learn how to effectively connect with others to create a solid foundation for success. As a master connector, advocate for the business community and frequent public speaking engagements on the importance of sincere connections, the how-to connect, she excels at coaching individuals on what makes networking a valuable skill, separate from selling and marketing. Wendy does this by breaking down the complex, sometimes confusing and often overwhelming prospect of networking into easy to define ‘landscapes', giving professionals confidence and control in any situation. Her style of coaching new information is personable, friendly and often humorous. Wendy encourages her coaching clients to view networking as an adventure and to enjoy the journey. For Halloween this year, we will be releasing our old Haunted Vermont Podcast Episodes right to you. Season One included SIX Episodes as we talked and read about places around Vermont that are considered to be other worldly. Enjoy.-------------------------------------------------------------Pittsford Haunted House, was once known as The Caverly Preventorium or “The Vermont Sanitorium”. Housing 100 patients that contracted the dreaded disease at the time with no cure, tuberculous. It held dark experiments from doctors, and lost fundings eventually leading to it’s closure in 1967. It became part of what is now known as the Vermont Police Academy and then went to the Vermont Fire Department, where even today it is opened to the public during October for their annual Pittsford Haunted House. Back in the fall of 2013, film makers Owen Mulligan and Jay Vos contacted Paul Dulski who runs Haunted Vermont to help find a location to shoot there last and final tale of there film that was released on October 27th 2014, known as DEAD STATIC. The tale takes on the true facts of witnesses claiming to see a small female child staring out on the second floor window. However since it’s a horror film, not everything is true. It is so fun to contact someone for the show and find out they took a workshop from me years ago! Denniele Bohannon of Louanna Mary Quilt Design made my day when she told me that! She has a wonderful design sense and I love the stories behind them. --------- Sharon Wasteney has her way with fabric. She does amazing over dyed lines which she uses in her projects. And her quilts often tell a story. She is designed the shop quilt when her favorite store was featured in the quilt shop issue. ------- Julia Wentzell is half of the Briar Hill Designs team as she works with her Sister-in-law Caverly. They create gorgeous fabric for RJR and wonderful patterns to use it in! --------- So excited to have my good friend designer Amy Smart back! Amy has been busy as a fabric designer, writer, Baby lock ambassador, and sometimes world traveler. She recently encountered Manx quilting. ================ Visit American Patchwork & Quilting at www.allpeoplequilt.com. In 2014, the American Psychological Association deemed teens, during the school year, the most stressed group of people in the United States. Teens experience stress much the way adults do, but do not yet have the skills and mechanisms to effectively work with it. To address this dilemma, Peace in Schools launched the first for-credit high school mindfulness course in the nation in 2014 in collaboration with Portland’s Wilson High School to great success. Today their program is also available to high school students at Rosemary Anderson, Lincoln and Cleveland High Schools and will be available this coming school year in Madison, Franklin and Alliance Meek High Schools, all as for credit elective courses. Caverly Morgan founded Peace in Schools and leads the Peace in Schools teaching team, develops the secular mindfulness curriculums, and works directly with teens. Caverly has been practicing mindfulness since 1995, including eight years in a monastic setting. She also offers awareness practice for adults though her nonprofit One House of Peace. Caverly is known for the insight, passion and humor she brings to her transformative work with students of all ages. Listen in to learn about this innovative and effective semester long program for teens and the resources it provides. - See more at: http://kboo.fm/media/51016-peace-schools-bringing-mindfulness-teens-interview-caverly-morgan#sthash.x1DB0Cfs.dpuf
Drs. Brandon Combs and Tanner Caverly discuss the Do No Harm Project they created while at the University of Colorado School of Medicine to encourage trainees to identify examples of harmful overtesting, overdiagnosis and overtreatment. These scenarios were then written up as case vignettes for the Teachable Moments series in JAMA Internal Medicine.
Multi-media artist, Kat Caverly gives us a glimpse into her life and career as a creative individual. She is a classic example of the artist who turns every experience into some form of expression, never giving up, never not looking for the next thing, and never losing her sense of humor.
