Patriarchal expectations of men remain strongly embedded in our society and culture, but it's time to break the guy code. Men are stuck in a bubble internally; they are supposed to be stoic, strong and masculine, and uphold rigid norms placed on them from the past several generations, reports Dr. Christopher Wilson, a certified sex therapist who works with cishet and non-cishet men who are struggling with the patriarchal negative and want to break free of it. Women have been hurt disproportionately through the years by the patriarchal model – voting rights, wage discrepancies, financial freedom – but this is changing. Unfortunately, the traditional model for men is not. They feel an internal battle; they don't want to give up their position, but at the same time, they feel trapped in a small rigid box of social expectations that they cannot step out of or there will be repercussions, they feel. Men want emotional expression, but in many cases, their female partners shut them down because they, too, are not prepared for this patriarchal change and don't know how to handle it. In this Smart Sex, Smart Love podcast, Dr. Wilson will talk about why men struggle with emotional recognition, the four domains where men can get hurt, and how men can break the guy code in a healthy way and be free to be who they are, which ultimately will lead to a better society for everyone.Support the show

Products often tell you exactly how they're intended to be used. But why leave it at that? As a culture, we have long had a knack for finding ingenious, off-label uses for things. In this episode, we take a close look at a few examples of products that are ostensibly meant for one thing, but are better known for something else entirely. We explore Q-tips, which we are explicitly told not to put into our ears; the Hitachi Magic Wand, the iconic sex toy marketed as a body massager; the musical washboard; and the children's electrolyte solution Pedialyte that many adults swear by as a hangover cure. You'll hear from Hallie Lieberman, author of Buzz: A Stimulating History of the Sex Toy; Jacqui Barnett of the Columbus Washboard Company; Christopher Wilson, curator and chair of the Division of Home and Community Life at the Smithsonian; musician and educator Súle Greg Wilson; zydeco musicians C.J. Chenier and Steve Nash; Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall, author of Hungover: The Morning After and One Man's Quest for the Cure; as well as writers Roberto Ferdman, Dan Brooks, and Kaitlyn Tiffany. Decoder Ring is produced by Willa Paskin, Max Freedman, Katie Shepherd, and Evan Chung, Decoder Ring's supervising producer. We had additional production from Sofie Kodner. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. Special thanks to Kate Sloan, Dr. Carol Queen, Bryony Cole, Amber Singer, Molly Born, Laura Selikson, and Nell McShane Wulfhart. The conversations happening online within the various websites that report, discuss and analyze key moments in an election or candidate are the way of the future in the political world. With powerful algorithms and AI tools the folks over at Eyes Over are about 3 days ahead of traditional polling. This is crucial if a candidate needs to address a key point or issue at hand as the results come in real time. Well on today's show the CEO of Eyes Over, Christopher Wilson, is going to update us on their latest data. Instead of favorable or unfavorable, Eyes Over uses online sentiment and when it comes to folks like Senator Van Hollen, sentiment is abysmal. Van Hollen is at 32 percent after his recent trip to El Salvador. Even as the media hails him as some sort of champion, the truth is most people don't like or appreciate what he is doing. Online sentiment registers differently and the highest high is around 50 percent, well Karoline Leavitt right now is sitting at 45 percent, showing how adept she is in her high pressure role. Chris gives us crucial insight into Gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey as well as the public's trust in institutions such as the military, church, Supreme court and Congress. AI aggregating tools and online conversations are the future of politics and Eyes Over is at the forefront. Talking architecture can be a little dense, wordy, and imponderable, especially for people who aren't architects but just love talking about, visiting, and being inspired by cool buildings. Today we talk with two noted populists who make architecture understandable, architect and professor Christopher Wilson, and journalist and architourist Ken MacIntyre of modtraveler.com. Later on, musical guest Emilie-Claire Barlow.
Governor Newsom is still plowing through hundreds of bills on his desk, one of which would change how California registers people to vote. Voter turnout will be key to this November's election, and this bill is designed to bring more Californians into the electorate. The measure is Senate Bill 299, and it would update California's “motor voter” registration law. Right now, anyone who gets a driver's license or state ID is automatically registered to vote too, as long as they indicate that they are eligible to vote. This new bill, if Governor Newsom signs it into law, would allow the Secretary of State, working with the DMV, to “pre-approve” applicants, streamlining the voter registration process. For more, KCBS Radio anchors Patti Reising and Bret Burkhart, along with KCBS Insider Doug Sovern, were joined by Christopher Wilson, vice president of operations at the social justice political advocacy organization PowerPAC, and a member of the California Grassroots Democracy Coalition. This is the State of California.
This week's minisode is an emotional roller coaster. First, Stacy and Daniel celebrate that the cottage is now for sale. Despite this exciting news, Daniel feels stressed about what comes next. He laments that while the cottage is now spotless, his own home is a mess in the aftermath. Daniel believes that the volume of his stuff is reaching an uncomfortable level, and something must be done. Stacy suggests the Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, but Daniel wants to sell everything instead. Next, Stacy offers a sad update on the Aurora Restoration Project, a ship currently docked in the California Delta. Its owner, Christopher Wilson, was a guest during episode #91 (February 27, 2023). Finally, Stacy and Daniel discuss the general ups and downs of buying and selling old houses. What makes a Christmas movie a Christmas movie? How do Christmas movies react to – and help us heal from – collective trauma? How can a British Christmas movie feel quintessentially American? We discuss all that and more this week at the 20th Anniversary of Love Actually, with G. Vaughn Joy, a film historian, writer, podcast host, and PhD candidate at University College London. Our theme song is Frogs Legs Rag, composed by James Scott and performed by Kevin MacLeod, licensed under Creative Commons. A Pennsylvania woman has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for her involvement in a murder conspiracy that targeted her ex-boyfriend - a case that also involved enlisting her own son as the triggerman. Joyce Brown Rodriguez, 56, will spend a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 40 years behind bars. The case revolved around the murder of Christopher Wilson, 52, who had dated Rodriguez for two years before the deadly incident. Rodriguez had pleaded guilty last December to one count of third-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and other related charges stemming from the December 2020 shooting death of Wilson. Prosecutors from the Bucks County District Attorney's Office revealed that Rodriguez conspired with her son, Khalill Saleem Brown, 34, to carry out the murder. In July, Rodriguez testified against her own son in court. Khalill Saleem Brown was subsequently convicted of first-degree murder based largely on his mother's testimony. He now faces a life sentence in prison for his role in the murder. The murder conspiracy shocked the community, with Judge Finley describing Wilson's death as a "callous murder." Wilson's family expressed strong emotions during the trial, particularly directed towards Rodriguez for her actions after planning the murder. Chynea Wilson said in a victim impact statement that she was outraged to learn Brown Rodriguez was responsible for her father's death, especially after she comforted the family in the immediate hours after the shooting. “You had the audacity to walk up and hug me when you had your son murder my father. You were shameless, like a demonic person, acting like nothing had happened. For that, you deserve everything coming to you.” The motive behind the murder remains a mystery to the judge, who commented, "It makes no sense that anything that occurred here, in any way, should have led to you taking the life of Mr. Wilson." The investigation found that Wilson and Brown-Rodriguez had been romantically involved since 2018, but Wilson had ended the relationship. Upset, Brown-Rodriguez repeatedly called and texted Wilson before going to his workplace the day before the shooting. While sitting in the parking lot that day, she texted her son, Kahlill Brown, asking for his help. The next day, Brown-Rodriguez drove the two of them to Wilson's workplace, parking in a corner of the lot. When Wilson got out of his car to talk to a co-worker, her son got out of the car and walked toward Wilson, she testified. She said she then heard several pops. Brown-Rodriguez then drove her son away from the scene. Cellphone evidence placed Brown near the crime scene at the time of the shooting. Khalill Saleem Brown, found guilty of first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, firearms offenses, and other charges, is scheduled to be sentenced to life in prison next month. Support the Official Release You can listen to Band of Horses' Infinite Arms on: Apple Music Spotify Or purchase Infinite Arms on: Amazon Music Links Marvis Pro, the iOS music player Michael mentioned using to see his play counts. Vacationer's Relief, the only album that came close to Infinite Arms's play count number in Michael's library. You can read Michael's previous review on the record here. Michael mentioned having a Fracture print of Infinite Arms, which is a picture printed directly on glass for a minimal, sleek presentation. This is his current collection. Sun Kil Moon's Benji, the album Marc claimed to be a perfect foil to the easily digestible and repeatable Infinite Arms. You can listen to our previous discussion on the record in Episode 8. Band of Horses' new lineup during Infinite Arms, and would remain unchanged for years—the first “true” Band of Horses lineup: Benjamin Bridwell Creighton Barret Ryan Monroe Bill Reynolds Tyler Ramsey The star at the center of the pivot point in the album art is Polaris (more commonly known as the “North Star”). The star seems to stand still in long exposure photography while the rest of the northern hemisphere stars spin around it due to the North Star being in a (mostly) direct line with the Earth's rotational axis with respect to the North Pole. Christopher Wilson, the Photographer for Infinite Arms's cover art and all the band's album art up to that point. (information courtesy of the Albums app on iOS). Michael's insane graph of “vibrancy”/”energy” by track number Infinite Arms was nominated for “Best Alternative Music Album” for the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011, the same year Arcade Fire famously secured Album of the Year with The Suburbs. You can read Marc's thoughts on The Suburbs here. Marc found “Factory” to share similarities with Paul McCartney and Wings's “Let Me Roll It” off 1973's Band on the Run and Vacationer's “Turning” off 2018's Mindset. You can read Marc's review of Band on the Run here or listen to our discussion on Mindset in Episode 14. “Factory” utilizes both a Memotron and Theremin. The Theremin also appeared in Lord Huron's “Love Like Ghosts” & “Way Out There” off 2015's Strange Trails, and you can listen to our previous discussion on that record in Episode 2. Michael's writeup on Jimmy Buffett's A1A mentioned during the show can be found here, the finest publication on the site thus far. The Last Bison's Quill, a record Michael felt was similar to “Compliments” since they both are high in character and charm in large part because of their imperfections. Grizzly Bear's Yellow House, the record Marc felt similarly leaned into “everything & the kitchen sink” production. Eagles, a classic rock band Michael could very easily see playing “Laredo” ChrisCorradi's comment on the “bullet in my Kai Lorenzo” lyric on genius.com “Band Of Horses Survived… Barely”, The SPIN interview Marc mentioned where Ben touches on his then-recent separation with his spouse. “Grumpy Old Men” (the 1993 film) and “Old City Bar” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra both evoked similar feelings and visuals in Michael as “Blue Beard”. The Explorer's Club, a classic rock & roll and classic pop-influenced band that Marc found strikingly similar to Band of Horses' experiments in “Blue Beard” and “Dilly”. “I need more cowbell!” Long in the Tooth and Repo Records referenced in the show are Marc's favorite record haunts in the Philly area. Support your local music stores! Marc kept saying “Dilly” was very “70's” but meant to say “60's” (oops). Ludo's “Good Will Hunting by Myself”, the song Michael mentioned takes the stereotypical “I'm better off without you, anyway” attitude from pop breakup songs and cranks it up to a comical extreme. Admiral Fallow, the band Michael mentioned was also sometimes similarly “rough” in vocal delivery like in “Evening Kitchen” and also works because of those edges. Arcade Fire's “We Used To Wait”—which explicitly and intentionally makes the audience “wait” for a final chorus that never again returns—Michael cheekily claimed to be the antithesis to the infinitely repeating chorus in “Older”. “Basement Shows” (also known as “House Shows”), a staple of Philadelphia college life. “Are You My Neightbor?”, a deep cut Marc made to the classic VeggieTales episode. Yes, this was a real thing. Grizzly Bear's “Colorado”, a song Marc found just as boring as “Neighbor”. Yes Michael, I will put it down there. The Arcade Fire lyric Marc was flopping around trying to remember is “Took a drive into the sprawl / To find the house where we used to stay”, where their usage of “house” instead of “home” is meant to communicate emotional distance and lack of attachment to the physical place they grew up. References Listed in order of reference on the show. “We actually started with a tonne of songs—about twenty-five or so—so we didn't even know which ones would make it, or which ones were good or bad really. So you don't really know until you're recording them, because we weren't really playing a lot of them live, so once they're recorded you're like, ‘Okay, this actually sounds like a real song, and this one sounds like a joke'—we're just taking the piss out of some soul song or something, you know? So we kinda learned as we went, like, ‘Oh wow, is what the record sounds like'.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “‘We have this time off before we gotta go back out on the road again—let's just go do it ourselves. We'll get another engineer… We think we know what the songs sound like—let's just go for it'. And so we were like, “This is actually really fun”. That's when we really discovered we don't have to beat each other up on this, we can just have fun with it and enjoy the process.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “I did stretch myself pretty much to being broke, at the same time we didn't have to worry about anybody even coming in and hearing mixes or anything, we could really take our time with it.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “It's the first time the line-up hasn't been this revolving door. With this record it's a real band that I'm part of. No one's going anywhere, everyone's contributing to the songwriting process and this is our coming-out party.” “Band of Horses: Infinite Arms Q&A with Ben Bridwell, Uncut Magazine (archive)” “… But that's the best part about it—the fact that it is a mystery. People get the lyrics wrong—I do that all the time with my favorite songs. You read the lyrics five years later, or hear it differently, and you're like, ‘Oh, I always kinda sang something to that effect when I was singing along, but I didn't really realize what they were talking about', you know? In a way it's like little hints come around and the mystery kinda reveals itself, but the fact that people don't really know is my favorite part, because that's what I appreciate about songs as well.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH [With Regards to “Factory”] “I was listening to a lot of Nick Drake and was really enamored by the string arrangements in his songs. Also, I was trying to make it a bit dramatic sounding in a Bittersweet Symphony kinda way.” “Track-byTrack: Band of Horses' Infinite Arms”, THE SKINNY “I was actually out writing songs for the new record, and I had some crazy stuff going on. That song just kind of ended up tapping me on the shoulder. Even though some of it is a bit maybe too autobiographical for my own tastes, a lot of it dances around subjects like all my songs do. I try not to be too specific.” “Infinite Arms: A conversation with Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell”, Mike Ragogna of HuffPost Entertainment “We got to the point where we were touring so much that nowhere was really home. So I figured, at least if I'm gonna come home after these long stretches of traveling, it would nice to be around my family; my parents, and my brother and sister are having babies. So it was like, when I come home, at least I'm close enough so I get to see them at least twice a year compared to like maybe once a year.” “Band Of Horses Interview”, CLASH “This song [‘Infinite Arms'] deals a lot with the major theme of the record, and being the title track that's maybe a little obvious, but this is one I'm not quite ready to unveil the mask on. But I can tell you that it almost didn't make the record.” “Track-byTrack: Band of Horses' Infinite Arms”, THE SKINNY “We went bonkers with Infinite Arms, because we could. It was a challenge to see what we could do, but we also overcooked some shit.” “Band of Horses: Mystery Riders”, Magnet Magazine Art ♫︎

Christopher Wilson, aka Riot Ten, exploded into electronic music at the age of 22 with his unique blend of dubstep, trap, and electro. Inking his first deal with DIM MAK Records in early 2017, Riot Ten's music has been supported and co-signed by the likes of DJ Snake, The Chainsmokers, Porter Robinson, Excision, Zed's Dead, Steve Aoki and many more. He has also released music on Interscope, Atlantic, Never Say Die, and Bassrush Records to name a few. Riot Ten's 2016 single "F*ck It" topped the dubstep charts for many consecutive months and became a staple on The Chainsmokers "Memories Do Not Open" tour. This cross-genre success paved the way for "Rail Breaker", his 2017 global smash, to become one of the most recognizable and infamous dubstep songs of the decade. However, the El Paso, Texas native refused to rest on his laurels. Following this success, it was off to the races, officially, and it was only the beginning. Riot Ten put out his debut EP "The Dead" in 2018, which recorded a top 10 debut on the iTunes dance charts and a #1 Beatport top 100 spot. He went on to release 2 additional EPs in 2018 and 2019, securing his presence in some of Spotify's top electronic playlists, including Beast Mode, Hype, Fresh Electronic, and more. With an undeniable groundswell underway, and no signs of slowing down, Riot Ten was fast becoming a rising star in bass music. He has now recorded and released two albums since 2020, while simultaneously releasing a string of singles and EPs that would feature some of his most popular records to date, including “Hyphy”, “Mawlee”, “Don't You” and “Poppin”. Since 2019, Riot Ten has headlined 3 international “Hype Or Die” tours, selling out shows across the globe, from North America to Australia and China. He has also made appearances at some of the top festivals in the world, including, but not limited to, Lollapalooza, Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, Lost Lands, Bass Canyon, Paradiso and more. Once again, we want to wish a happy and youthful b-day to one of our amazing @Exclusivcbd athletes! You're in for a treat today as Exclusi-V CEO, Christopher Wilson, introduces you to MIKE “THE MENACE” GUY!!! Where does your intrinsic motivation coming from? Let me start by asking if you ever wondered what it might be like to dry heave so hard from starvation and not know where your next meal would from? How about thinking about what it would be like to grow up with the following goals that most would think are expected: 1) Graduate Highschool. 2) Live past 21. 3) Don't get shot, or killed by the police. Perhaps these don't sound like the most audacious of goals, but for one of our most anticipated guests , Mike Guy, this was his actual reality. Mike is one of Sacramento's most well-known professional boxers and boxing trainers. At the young age of 39, Mike sits down with me to teach us how he remains young at heart, optimistic, and explains how even with an extremely tough upbringing (and needing to defend himself in over 90 street fights growing up) he still is coming out punching!!! “At this stage in life my focus is to get better in my sport, not in my own eyes, but rather, in the eyes of as many people I can positively affect as possible.” Mike says, “Ultimately being able to pass on knowledge to others and to shorten a window for those seeking the same knowledge so that they don't have to experience the hardships and speedbumps that I had to.” Mike gives credit to: Anthony Mcsweeny (mentor), Brenda Baldwin (children's mom) - 3 boys (18,5,4yrs old), and Willy Kensey (barber and corner man). So while most kids were living normal lives, Mike, who were surrounded by drugs, violence, a family of gang members, and close friends from rival gangs, he exemplifies what an Exclusi-V Mindset is all about. Learn how he has created the life he wants vs letting life happen to him! #adversity #motivation #success #inspiration #love #mindset #entrepreneur #life #hope #strength #resilience #leadership #happiness #personaldevelopment #motivationalquotes #faith #business #hustle #believe #stoicism #challenge #covid #inspire #truth #successquotes #entrepreneurship #stoic #wisdom #gratitude #bhfyp Be sure to share with 5+ friends who you think would love this interview, comment your thoughts, and subscribe to our post notifications on the right side of this post as well as subscribing to all of the Exclusi-V pages.
