I'd like to begin this episode by acknowledging the land that I am learning and living on is the traditional un-ceded, un-surrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People.Leaders are flawed people who experience the same gambit of personal and professional pressures that all team members go through. And quite often, leaders will ask their team members to stand up for what's right at all costs. Leaders often extol the virtues of being a consummate professional, all of us striving towards being inclusive, open, and empathetic, with the highest level of integrity. But how often do leaders practice what they preach? In this episode, you'll hear from Ryan van Haren, an Aviation Coach, Consultant and Corporate Pilot, who will talk about his leadership experiences, explaining the reality of how hard it can be to do the right thing in the face of many oppositions.Trench Leadership: A Podcast From the Front is humbled to have been listed as #8 for the Top 20 Best Canadian Leadership-themed podcasts in 2022.Reviews are the best way for us to know what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong, and what we should talk about in the future, so please click on the links below and let us know if this episode was helpful.Connect with Trench Leadership here:Trench Leadership WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramYouTubeTwitterIglen StudiosConcussion Legacy Foundation websiteDispatches Adventure Ride websiteAudio editing and episode artwork by Fiona FaganAre you looking for a producer for your own podcast? Today, our guest is a corporate pilot, Founder and President of the Hera Aviation Group, and mommy of two, Jessica Webster. As a Massachusetts native, Jessica attended airshows with her family and admired the aircraft from afar. It wasn't until the Commander of a P-3 Orion invited Jessica to sit on the aircraft's wing with the crew that she believed aviation was a career possibility. It was a defining moment that inspired her to pursue flight. After a non-linear path to becoming a corporate pilot, Jessica found herself in a difficult situation. Because she was a new mother, she was not given the opportunity to upgrade from her First Office position to Captain, although she worked just as hard as her counterparts. This situation shocked Jessica and later motivated her to find a way to continue to fly. Jessica was also inspired to start her non-profit, Hera Aviation Group, which raises awareness of the current constraints for women and primary caregivers in aviation and advocates for change within the industry.

As you've likely heard, the final Learjet was recently delivered following almost 60 years of production. I was a kid when the Lear 23 was first introduced in 1964. Although a few other corporate jets were flying by then, most companies still motored around in relatively slow, unpressurized piston airplanes, many of them repurposed WWII-era bombers and freighters. The Lear was so sleek, sexy, and fast in comparison that it seemingly arrived from the future, revolutionizing air travel as evidenced by some 3,000 aircraft delivered over so many years.Today's episode is a tribute to the Learjet via "Captain Midnight," one of the model's early captains and the most dashing pilot I've ever met, who along the way inspired me and other enthusiastic kids to earn their wings in his footsteps.Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gbflyingcarpet)

Growing up, Eric Dragonetti admired planes and saw himself becoming an aerospace engineer, designing jet engines. It wasn't until he was touring colleges that he thought he might actually want to be a pilot instead. After 4 years at University of North Dakota, Eric graduated as a certified flight instructor. From there, he built his hours towards becoming an airline pilot. Eric loved flying commercial, until Covid came and shook things up. While furloughed, Eric decided to do enough private lessons to pay the mortgage and eat Top Ramen. When he did return to his commercial role, he realized the aviation market just wasn't the same and no longer worked for him. The decision was clear, it was time to start his own flight school. What You'll Learn: What a discovery flight is and how to arrange one. How a chance meeting led Eric to attend University of North Dakota. The two biggest struggles Eric had when it came to starting a business. How top of the line avionics change the experience. Favorite Quote: “When you have a dream, you wanna go for it, you work for it.”
Today's guest, Jeff Kearns, is a corporate pilot, CFI, musician, former professional skier and a crypto expert. Jeff knew he wanted to be a pilot from a young age, saying going to the airport was like going to the zoo for him. He thought the quickest way to get in the air was to join the Army straight out of high school. Jeff spent three years in the airborne infantry stationed in Alaska . Using his GI Bill to continue his education, Jeff majored in geography with an emphasis in meteorology. Any free time he had outside of school or work, he was working on his pilot career. Through a family friend he was able to join a charter company. His career really took off from there and now he says he's living the dream. What You'll Learn: What drove Jeff to become a pilot. How geography and meteorology played into an aviation career. How the Army shaped Jeff's core values. Why the Falcon 50 and Bravo are Jeff's favorite planes to fly. Favorite Quote: “When it comes to things that I want, I work harder than anybody else.” -Jeff Kearns
What do you get when you bring two real-world Jet Pilots together? A fantastic conversation about flying and flight simulation, that's what. How about sub-contracting as a corporate pilot as your form of off-farm income? Seem impossible? I would have thought it was unrealistic until I interviewed today's guest, Andrew Ambrose. Andrew owns his own business, Fly Twins LLC, and he farms 750 acres in Southeast Missouri in addition to that. If that is not enough, he also owns his own excavating company. As Andrew put it, it would not be uncommon to see him flying a corporate customer across the country in the morning and driving a combine that evening. This is an interesting way to producing off-farm income. Tune to hear more about Andrew's story.

In this fourth episode of season two of Chicks Who Fly, I get to have a conversation with Part 135 Corporate pilot flying a PC-12 in the Caribbean, who was born and raised in Rio, Brazil, Debbie Nascimento. Debbie is a first generation aviator who became a flight attendant at 20. While working in the airline, she used to go into the cockpit and ask the pilots questions about what they were doing, how to fly the airplane and how to go about getting her certificates and ratings. She decided to take out a loan so that she could do her training quickly. Debbie did her entire training part 61 in the insanely busy NYC airspace, while working full time as a flight attendant and she ended up getting ALL her certificates and ratings in an astonishing one year and three month period -private, instrument, commercial, commercial multi-engine, w seaplane, CFI, CFII, AGI, tail wheel endorsement and then went on to get her high performance, high altitude. Debbie is also one of the only 200-300 pilots in the world qualified to fly into St Barths. During her training, one of the things she struggled with, was a fear of stalls and feeling uncomfortable with steep turns but she found the instrument, her easiest and most fun rating, which is what most people call their most difficult and boring. We talk about the mental shift she made, that had her see her instrument rating from that perspective. At the time of this interview, Debbie was getting ready to go to her first assigned base in San Juan, Puerto Rico. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inaia/support

There are few people out there that fly for a living as well as fly for fun in their off time, Dewey is one of them. At work he flies airplanes with glass cockpits, autopilots and pressurized cabins, but for fun he prefers steam gauges, hand flying and open cockpits. Dewey started his aviation journey at 7 years old building model airplanes and he still enjoys the challenge of building and flying rc airplanes. In 1994 he earned his private pilot certificate. Since then he has logged over 10000 hours of flying, earned the ATP certificate and collected 5 different type ratings along the way. Sam now works as a First Officer on a Falcon 7X for Planet Nine Private Air. Sam offers excellent insight on how to take advantage of your time as a CFI to gain more intangible skills other than mere flight time. Sam describes what it is really like to be a Corporate Pilot for Planet 9 and how every single corporate pilot job is vastly different from the next. Planet 9 specializes in international Part 135 Custom VIP Charter that averages eight to ten hours of flight time per flight. This means crews spend up to 24 hours together in order to successfully complete a mission. Sam emphasizes the importance of understanding people and learning how to work with people in close proximity for extended periods of time. He shares his favorite quote from his second favorite book, The Subtle Art of Not GIving a F**k" and discusses the importance of positivity and perspective. Captain Rick Jones is the first Corporate Pilot to appear on Talking Flight. I first met Rick when I was working as a Flight Engineer Instructor for Alaska Airlines. We were in Vancouver, British Columbia, and we were using the B727 Flight simulator at Canadian Pacific Airlines. My good friend, Captain Dick Jones was the Captain Instructor, and he brought his 12 year old son, Rick, along to watch us at work training flight crews. We became very good friends, and I began to mentor Rick towards a career as a professional pilot. Rick tells us about his remarkable journey into aviation, and the lessons that he learned along the way. I know that you will enjoy his sense of humor as he tells us about his interesting adventures.

I'm sure you've heard of the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world, well today id like to introduce you to the most interesting advisor in the world… But before I do that, if you missed our last episode, episode #20 with pro bodybuilder Jeff Willet who shares how to transform Your Fitness And Health Without Sacrificing Your Business And Family Life, so be sure to check that out. The name of my guest today is Ryan Wheless, when Ryan is not helping his clients with his firm Allied Wealth in Houston, Texas…you can find him out flying his plane, wake surfing on the lake or jumping off helicopters onto fresh powdered snow and snowboarding all the way down. They say everything is bigger in Texas, and Ryan's production numbers are definitely no different…Since 2008, Ryan has sold $160M in annuities along with $5 million in target life, and since he got his Series 65 license he has gathered $75M AUM. Here's the kicker, Ryan only works 8 months out of the year and does more in production then advisors who hammer it out all 12 months of the year, back-to-back, week-to-week. Ryan is a big believer in giving back to to his community and he's actively involved in giving to the Wounded Warrior project and Mighty Oaks Warrior Foundation; a charitable program which helps thousands of wounded soldiers and their families help make the adjustment to becoming full-time supporters or caregivers. At every one of Ryan's seminars, his he matches any donation dollar-for-dollar. Through Wounded Warrior, Ryan has donated $120,000 to veterans in need. Despite Ryan's accomplishments, he's actually a humble guy and what I really appreciate about him is his willingness to pay it forward to other advisors and share with our community the hard lessons he's learned along his journey to the top. Ryan discusses the 3 specific things you can do, to make this year your best year ever and daily rituals to set you up for a successful day. Mary Latimer is a woman who, when she didn't like the ratio of male-to-female pilots in the world, put together a plan and did something about it. She established GIFT Academy...a place where females can get a week of FREE flight instruction--you pay only a nominal fee for aircraft and fuel--in the company of other girls and women. The academy is a family affair in which Mary's pilot-daughter, Tamara, and pilot-grand-daughter, Amanda, also participate. If you are a gal who simply wants to conquer your fear-of-flying, GIFT Academy can help with that, too! If you are unable to attend GIFT Academy, know that Mary and Tamara will both, very generously, give you free mentoring via phone or email. All the information you need is in this podcast. Let Mary's multi-faceted aviation career as an Aircraft Mechanic, Flight Instructor, Corporate Pilot, Air Traffic Controller and Pilot Examiner be the inspiration for your success!
