A big problem so many people struggle with is knowing how to deal with uncomfortable emotions in a healthy way. Oftentimes, emotions are dealt with by overeating, emotional eating, turning to drugs or alcohol, distraction, avoidance, etc. In this episode, I sit down to chat with Dana Vanwoerden Skoglund about true emotional self-care and how to deal with uncomfortable emotions.    Known as the teacher's teacher and community leader, Dana Skoglund has been teaching yoga since 2005. However, she realized that in order to help people feel better outside of the yoga class, she needed to help them transform their daily habits and mindset.   Dana's passion is contagious. She embodies a warm, light-hearted, and genuine approach in sharing lessons learned as she guides you into living a more intentional, aligned, and self-honoring life.   In this episode, we chat all about emotional self-care, ways to effectively change destructive habits, ways to cope and heal from past experiences, and how making yourself a priority helps not only you but those around you as well - proving once again that self-care isn't selfish at all.   Ways to connect with Dana: Website: https://www.danaskoglund.com/  Email: danaskoglund@gmail.com  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DanaSkoglundCoaching  Instagram: www.instagram.com/danaskoglund   Register for the upcoming “Reverse Dieting” webinar: https://mailchi.mp/4ba0db64cc93/reversedieting   Have podcast topic suggestions? Being a nurse, Miranda was apprehensive when she first heard of detox growing in popularity. After having gone through YogiDetox herself, however, Miranda has seen first-hand the massive benefits detoxing has had on her health. Gale and Miranda chat about the transformational experience that this program has brought to so many people. Often in our busy modern lives, it can be really great for us to take a step back from things that aren’t serving us. Detoxing allows us to remove ourselves from our everyday lifestyles, so we can more easily cut out foods that we don’t realize are negatively impacting us. Additionally, it encourages stricter adherence to practices and habits that serve us well, such as going to bed early. Cate Stillman has designed YogiDetox so that you have the power to design your own detox and do it how you want. Miranda emphasizes how it is less about increasing stress through strict adherence to guidelines, and more about doing the things that you know serve your health best. Detoxing allows us to get back into alignment and balance with ourselves, and YogiDetox provides the support we need to get there.   What you’ll get out of tuning in: Why detoxing can be so transformative Why you should do YogiDetox What eliminating certain foods can tell us   Links Mentioned in Episode: YogiDetox Fall  Intermittent Fasting, Detoxing And The Ayurvedic Clock  The Detox Path of Deep Nourishment with Deanna Minich  Show Highlights: 3:38 - Miranda discusses with Gale how YogiDetox is designed for participants to design their detox to fit what they need at any given time in their lives. It is powerfully transformative to take a step back from things that aren’t serving you, and to do little experiments in your lifestyle and diet to see the changes that result. 5:50 - YogiDetox allows you to go about your detox individually while also having access to a community of people going through the same experience. While Miranda detoxed more on her own, she underscores the value of the Facebook community for answering questions, providing support, and showing how others are handling the detox journey. 11:45 - Miranda emphasizes looking at our local environment, including local plants that grow, to see how we can utilize these resources to feed our health. Invasive weeds can serve as abundant sources of local nutrients that connect us with what our environment is providing for us.   Favorite Quotes: “Reexamining things to do little experiments on yourself to see how you feel when those things are taken out of your life - I think it's very valuable.” - Miranda “It is very valuable that we start looking at what’s around us and how it’s supposed to be helping us.” - Miranda “How are we feeding ourselves in other ways?” - Gale Edison     Guest BIO: Miranda Smith is a 48 year old registered nurse, who lives in Northwestern, B.C., Canada. In this Changemaker Challenge Career Clarity Session, Cate chats with Yoga Health Coach Dana Skoglund about how building a signature system or leveraging an existing signature system can propel your wellness career to the next level. Building a signature system involves codifying your life's work coupled with what you've learned from others into a system that is succinct and easy to integrate. Dana has successfully used and expanded upon Cate's Yoga Health Coaching System to create her own signature systems. Leveraging an existing system requires a growth mindset – the ability to learn from and benefit from someone else's work. Is your native genius to build and create your own system, or would you benefit more from leveraging your own system? Listen in as Cate and Dana discuss how Wealth Dynamics can help you determine your best course of action. Once you've decided which course of action is right for you, using tools to develop and refine your system, allows you to see its strengths and weaknesses. Creating and emphasizing codified language around your system makes it easier for clients and course members to identify and understand key components of your system. Finally, the success of your system is dependent on your ability to constantly refine and upgrade the user experience.   What you'll get out of tuning in:   How committing to a growth mindset allows you to see the value and wisdom in systems that are unfamiliar to you.     How learning, using, and teaching someone else's system can propel your career to the next level.     How using tools can help you see the strengths and weaknesses in your own signature system.     Links: Body Thrive Yoga Health Coaching  Changemaker Challenge  Bowspring Yoga Wealth Dynamics Dubsado Mindset by Carol Dweck Draw Backwards Tint  Show Highlights: 1:00 - A system codifieds your life's work coupled with what you've learned from others into a system that is succinct and easy to integrate. 1:40 - The ability to learn from and benefit from someone else's system requires a beginner's mind, a growth mindset. 12:40 - Is your native genius to build and create your own system, or would you benefit more from leveraging your own system? 18:00 - Using tools to develop and refine systems, allows you to see the strengths and weaknesses in your signature system. 22:19 - Creating and emphasizing codified language around your system makes it easier for clients and course members to identify and understand key components of your system.   Your Favorite Quotes The more we already know something, the harder we make to really be able to receive someone else's zone of excellence and zone of genius and their incredible insight. --- Cate Stillman When you're learning a system that you're not familiar with, it's uncomfortable in the beginning. --- Dana Skoglund I find that knowing your system [Yoga Health Coaching], and having gone through that system and seeing what works about that system, allows me then to expand on it and create my own systems. --- Dana Skoglund What are you learning right now that you need to just turn around and teach? Getting in our own way happens. To everyone. But it doesn't have to continue to happen. We can take the time to step back and observe our patterns, be open to changing how we converse with others, and develop practices for becoming more clear on noticing it happening, and taking steps to let go of those beliefs and habits. When we observe, open to change, and implement practical steps towards those changes, we get out of our own way. A career in wellness means deep self-investigation. Grace Edison and Dana Skoglund discuss their experiences with investigating how they get in their own way, why it happens, and what has worked for them to get rid of that habit and build in better ones.   Show Highlights: 12:04 – The fear of success impedes our ability to achieve success. When we mine that fear, with the support of others, we can release those fears and have a new perspective.   17:07 – Sometimes it is important to take the time to visualize out what will happen if we do not make changes to our habits around our goals for our lives. 21:03 – When there is no structure, we can get distracted by our own ideas.   What you'll get out of tuning in: Why you want to take the time to uncover and work through the ways you self-sabotage How to learn to see your own strengths, and why it matters. Overcoming normative values and belief systems is often crucial for pursuing your dharma. 8:30 – The better body habits you have, the greater capacity you have to do anything you want to do. Habit evolution can help you not only feel better, but get more done in your day! 12:00 – Yoga Health Coaching gives you the tools you need to be able to create a health coaching business, and especially helps you get comfortable with aspects for which you might not feel you have the capacity yet. 16:00 – By improving body habits, you change physically and energetically, and people want to be around you more. When you live what you're teaching, it's not hard to sell your courses to clients because they want to go where you're going. 26:00 – If you have an eating disorder, you should go to therapy, not a health coaching course. However, a health coaching course could be incredibly beneficial for anyone who has experienced disordered eating.   Favorite Quotes: "I didn't need to live based on someone else's idea of what I should be doing." – Kari Zabel "You're probably going to have to overcome some familial or cultural baggage." – Cate Stillman "It's really hard to continually be going against the grain." – Kari Zabel "The better body habits you have, the greater capacity you have to do anything you want to do." – Kari Zabel "When you live what you're teaching and practicing, it's not that hard to sell something." – Kari Zabel "People are often steered inappropriately into career paths that don't really fit them, or relationships that don't really fit them." – Cate Stillman

Hi everyone! Cate here with Dana Skoglund. Dana has been in YHC mastery for two years, with her first pilot in April 2015. She is doing amazing things with her health coaching career, surpassing her goals in finance, impact, and reach each year. She just finished her 10th round of courses, and she now has two other mastery continuity programs that she's created. Today, we are going to chat about marketing and client outreach, and tackle some of the following questions:   How do I build a lead generation system to convert 60 people into my course again and again? What is your conversion rate? When you get on the phone with them, how many people opt-in to your courses? If your conversion rate is lower than 30%, what's wrong with the system? When in that sequence are you making an offer? Make the offer to have a strategy session with you sooner than later. When are you making an offer to join your program? Is there a way to simplify?   Tune in to hear our laser coaching session that focuses on nurturing potential clients and making time for personal interactions, allowing you to advise them on what they truly need.   What you'll get out of tuning in: Why personalized interactions are so important How to use feminine-style marketing to nurture qualified leads When to make an offer, and when to hold off   Show Highlights: Yoga Health Coaching Yoga Health Coaching Mastery Dana's website   Show Highlights: 3:00 - When building your email list, think about how many people you need to hit your goal. Then consider how you can simplify it to reach the people who will sign up for your courses at the price you are willing to give them. 7:00 - Make sure you get yourself in a peak state before you coach someone into enrollment in your courses. 10:45 - Instead of pushing clients toward your courses, get interested in what's going on with them. When they come in, it's not about you and your values; it's about finding out more about them and what they need. 15:00 - Don't make an offer prematurely. Whether it's free trainings, body work, applications for more sessions, or making sure they see quality content that may help them personally, your work can really nurture them in what they need. 20:00 - In all content, you should always provide an opportunity for them to have a conversation with you. This will allow people the opportunity to get in touch with you and your courses more quickly and efficiently. 22:50 - Ask people to refer their friends! More people are willing to give referrals than we typically ask. And referrals have the best conversion rate, with 80% of people buying when they have a referral from a friend.   Favorite Quotes: "In any kind of coaching, you want to get yourself in a peak state before you dial or sit down with someone." - Cate Stillman "I choose to feel confident that I can do this. I listen deeply. I come from a place of wholeness. I trust myself and the universe." - Dana Skoglund "Reevaluate how you have your home page so people can just get right into a strategy session with you." - Cate Stillman "At some point paying for leads is faster." - Cate Stillman   Guest BIO: Dana Skoglund is a Certified Yoga Health Coach, Yoga teacher, and mother of two rambunctious young boys. Here we are on the Changemaker Challenge. It's me, Cate Stillman of Yoga Health Coaching with the now-famous Grace Edison! We're talking about deep listening today. I actually just re-wrote the Yoga Health Coaching guide, and the deep listening section is big. It's a skill, and you can't making deeper change without it. As I was doing this, I was reflecting on how I think one of the reasons Grace has done so well here is her ability to listen from a place of care. And it's authentic care! This is incredibly important when it comes to interacting with our clients. So tune in to learn about diving into deep listening, and uplevel your life, your relationships, and your career.   What you'll get out of tuning in: What to do to practice deep listening How to practice physiological empathy Why dynamic groups are so important for rapid evolution   Links: Yoga Health Coaching website  Change Your Questions, Change Your Life: 10 Powerful Tools for Life Craig Hamilton's website Andrew Cohen's website Dana Skoglund's website   Get your Kira Grace's exclusive 20% discount   Show Highlights: 0:45 - Take time to enjoy the return from your offerings: so many of us work really hard all the time with the goal of enjoying our lives later, in retirement or further down the road. You're not just empathetic in your mind, but you're actually physiologically available: your heart is available. 11:15 - Create a safe space to deeply listen to your clients. Schedule a time and provide a structure so you can get to a place of depth and groundedness. Then, you'll have time to reflect, ask questions, and get to the heart of the problem. 17:30 - Don't skip over the hard questions: hold yourself and your clients accountable for talking about uncomfortable things. This is what will set you apart from other health professionals and bring you to the root of the problem. 30:30 - Dynamic groups are so important for rapid evolution: they help us to deeply listen, to care, to empathize, to identify our self-sabotage, to call each other out, and to have each other's back. 33:30 - In order to get comfortable with your clients uncomfortableness, get into your body and come to an intuitive place. Give everything you have to that person in that moment, and allow things to be exactly as they are.   Favorite Quotes: "I've learned a lot about deep listening. I think it's always been there, covered up by my desire to talk a lot." - Grace Edison "If you're grounded in your own physiology, you can become so much more available." - Cate Stillman "The habits were huge for me in being able to feel and empathize, and then not take it on as my own." - Grace Edison "Once you become whole, then you can Thrive." - Cate Stillman "Extreme ownership of behavior in alignment with our own potential is what it's all about." - Cate Stillman

Hello and good morning! Happy Friday, Changemakers! This is Carly, and I am so excited today – it's Friday, the sun is shining, and I'm not sick! I've been sick all week. Not to mention my son is one year old, and he has clearly communicated to me that he gets 'man colds.' So it's been a really difficult week. It's really hard to get anything done with a baby in one arm and Kleenexes in the other. So I'm so excited to be having this conversation in particular. I'm here with Dana Skoglund, who is a very inspiring and successful Yoga Health Coach. Dana is going to talk to us today about streamlining to create more ease. This week especially highlighted the importance of this for me because I had to move a lot of things around to support my health and the health of my family: it's really important to have procedures in place that can step in when you're not feeling so great or when life gets to hectic. Dana started Yoga Health Coaching three years ago, and since then has transitioned from being a yoga teacher struggling to make a living to creating her own health coaching business and running 10 programs in the last three years with the help of YHC. Tune in to hear about Dana's journey, and how she manages her time to create ease in her business and her life!   What you'll get out of tuning in: How to create content with ease Why you shouldn't be afraid to repeat yourself How to use marketing tools to streamline your business   Links: Yoga Health Coaching Evergreen Marketing   Dana's website Get your Kira Grace's exclusive 20% discount Show Highlights: 19:20 - Everyone can do what they love for a living. This way, you can run a program right from the start without creating everything first. 23:30 - You can create free talks, webinars, blog posts, and other content to put on your website for lead-in to courses. By doing this and using marketing tools, you can create a steady flow of business with ease. 25:30 - Don't be afraid to repeat yourself: People need to hear the same thing more than once for it to sink in, and by saying the same things in different ways, one of the ways you say it is bound to click for someone.   Favorite Quotes: "I was hell-bent on doing what I love for a living, and that's really what brought me to Yoga Health Coaching." - Dana Skoglund "I think everyone can do what they love for a living… It's just about wanting it enough to make it work." - Dana Skoglund "Don't be afraid to repeat yourself. Being Intentional in Your Life  How would you show up in your daily life if you felt like all of your needs were met and you treated yourself with compassion? In this day and age with our electronic devices constantly demanding immediate attention, overcommitted schedules for both ourselves and our families, managing our work and trying to take time out of each day to take care of our health and well-being, it can be hard to navigate each day with any sense of ease or balance. Dana Skoglund has been there. As a busy mother of two young boys and emerging from the buzzing metropolis of New York City, Dana felt overwhelmed and frustrated as she tried to build her practice as a yoga instructor and manage her family. When she moved to Kelowna, BC, she began to re-evaluate her habits and realized the importance of self-care, having a routine, and setting boundaries. Currently, she is teaching yoga but also leads multiple lifestyle/yoga coaching courses on better sleep habits, the keystone habits to create healthy daily routines, ditching cycles of overwhelm and burnout, Ayurveda, and fostering a deeper sense of purpose. In this conversation with Dana, we discuss how to step off the hamster wheel and take control of your life and what it looks like to have a routine focused around self-care. We often feel overly busy and overwhelmed, and I definitely fall back into that category regularly. “We are doing busy work and that busy work sometimes helps us feel like we are accomplishing something because we can check something off our list, but is it moving us in the direction we want? And often it isn't and we feel like we aren't actually enjoying our life at all. We are busy but we're not present for every moment and are not able to actually do what we want to do and what's most important.” We talk about knowing your core values so that you can create a buffer and set boundaries so your actions are aligned with what is most important to you. Another great part of this conversation is time management and how to block of time during your day. This conversation helped bring me back to what is important to me and reminded me of how to create better work-life balance. I loved this exchange with Dana Skoglund and I hope you do too! Name any trendy diet, and there's a good chance Grace Edison has tried it — without lasting effects — over the years. Even with all that practice, she was stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of losing and gaining the same 50 pounds over and over again. Eating was a form of self-harm and emotional solace through difficult periods in her life, but on her personal evolution path, she broke free of old patterns that kept her body from changing. In this episode, Grace shares how the habits of Body Thrive helped her body figure out where it really wants to be, and how she has used her personal transformation and evolution to inspire and help others live in bodies they love.   3 Bullet Points How to inspire others via your own transformation Why you need to stop jumping from diet to diet and instead create new habits How to hear the true cravings of your body Links Mentioned in Your Episode: Dana Skoglund Yoga Health Coaching Body Thrive Book Show Highlights: 3:50 — Grace explains the massive transformation she underwent after a 10-week YHC pilot program with Dana Skoglund and how it prompted her to become a Yoga Health Coach. 7:00 — Weight-loss transformations happen naturally with YHC — bodies find that level where they're meant to be, just like Grace's has. 10:00 — Grace shares how getting into her proper body rhythms — through the 10 Habits of Body Thrive — made a massive impact on how her body reshaped itself. Earlier, Lighter Dinners and Early to Bed in particular have proven to really impact her life. 13:00 — We all need to go through a personal inquiry process to get to the root of our habits, spark change, and become grounded. 17:40 — Listening to what your body is really asking for and needing is one of the most critical steps toward changing your relationship with food and using it as fuel, not emotional support. 20:30 — Food can change more than our bodies — it can even change our thought patterns. Bad food can lead to thoughts of self-doubt. Your Favorite Quotes "It's when people start asking you to teach what you've learned that you know you're on the right path."
