Ellis is considered the originator of cognitive behavior therapy, although he used the term rational emotive therapy, later changing it to rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT). From the late 1940s onwards, Ellis worked on rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) Ellis was now advocating a new more active and directive type of psychotherapy. In 1955, he presented rational therapy (RT). In RT, the therapist sought to help the client understand—and act on the understanding—that his personal philosophy contained beliefs that contributed to his own emotional pain. This new approach stressed actively working to change a client's self-defeating beliefs and behaviors by demonstrating their irrationality, self-defeatism and rigidity. Ellis believed that through rational analysis and cognitive reconstruction, people could understand their self-defeatingness in light of their core irrational beliefs and then develop more rational constructs. Memory Imprinting There are many moments in life when something unexpected occurs. These unexpected events may be unremarkable, tragic or positive. You can imagine that tragic events are often imprinted in memories, especially if an individual is a victim or eyewitness of a tragic event. One of the most severe results of imprinted memories take the form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Falilial Imprinting The best-known form of imprinting is filial imprinting, in which a young animal narrows its social preferences to an object (typically a parent) as a result of exposure to that object Konrad Lorenz working with greylag geese Sexual Imprinting Sexual imprinting is the process by which a young animal learns the characteristics of a desirable mate. For example, male zebra finches appear to prefer mates with the appearance of the female bird that rears them, rather than that of the birth parent when they are different Limbic Imprinting Some suggest that prenatal, perinatal and post-natal experiences leave imprints upon the limbic system, causing lifelong effects and this process is identified as limbic imprinting. The term is also described as the human emotional map, deep-seated beliefs, and values that are stored in the brain's limbic system and govern people's lives at the subconscious level It is one of the suggested explanations for the claim that the experiences of an infant, particularly during the first two years of his life, contribute to his lifelong psychological development.[14] Kids have no fear! If you recall back to your childhood, your curiosity may have allowed you to do things that you wouldn’t think of doing today. As kids, there are fewer self-imposed limits. My sledding daredevil story! Our experiences make our movies. The movie of our life influences every decision we make. Unfortunately, that movie is sometimes inaccurate. The movie replays all of our disappointments, failures and hurt. This prevents us from “letting go” and challenging our status-quo as adults. Your movie will often reinforce limiting beliefs. Myths and facts about anger Myth: I shouldn’t “hold in” my anger. It’s healthy to vent and let it out. Fact: While it’s true that suppressing and ignoring anger is unhealthy, venting is no better. Anger is not something you have to “let out” in an aggressive way in order to avoid blowing up. In fact, outbursts and tirades only fuel the fire and reinforce your anger problem. Myth: Anger, aggression, and intimidation help me earn respect and get what I want. Fact: Respect doesn’t come from bullying others. People may be afraid of you, but they won’t respect you if you can’t control yourself or handle opposing viewpoints. Others will be more willing to listen to you and accommodate your needs if you communicate in a respectful way. Myth: I can’t help myself. Anger isn’t something you can control. Fact: You can’t always control the situation you’re in or how it makes you feel, but you can control how you express your anger. And you can communicate your feelings without being verbally or physically abusive. Even if someone is pushing your buttons, you always have a choice about how to respond. but damnit, I can do this. And you know what? Its pushed me, it made me doubt myself at times, but the reward is seeing my hard work and true effort paying off. The proud feeling I get when I now look at the finished products isn’t because I had the money to pay someone. It’s because I utilized my brain, my creativity and my persistent nature and I made it happen. The gratification of looking at it now is such much sweeter then if I would of had someone build it. I want you all to feel that. I call that a breadcrumb to confidence. Gaining that true internal confidence doesn’t just appear overnight. Life gives you breadcrumbs, little victories that compound over time, slowly building confidence from within. Take these challenges are opportunities to realize your true capabilities. If you recognize that imposter syndrome often gets in your way, thats a big step towards progress. That means you recognize it’s a problem, which also means you can work to move past those feelings. The comparison trap often folds into this equation because during this time in our life, where our successes and failures are just out there for the world to see, we are often comparing our work, our products/services/etc. to others in our field and thinking to ourselves “oh shit mine isn’t that good.” Guess what? What you have to offer is different than her. There are probably 1 million bloggers, podcasters, influencers out there.. but what content I put out there is different and its 100% authentic to me. The online business space is becoming pretty crowded but every single freaking person has a different talent, ability, idea and conversation to bring to the table so don’t ever discount what you have to give because nobody can take that away from you. One thing I learned that might even be controversial is taking someone else’s idea and improving upon it to make it your own. Do you think Starbucks was the first company to come up with a coffee shop? Heck no. They did not invent the concept, they just took the idea and flipped it totally on its head and made it their own and turned it into a billion dollar business. Also stop fighting your feelings. Embrace them, cry it out, suck it up and move on. Acknowledge they are there and let them fuel your fire. Allow those feelings to motivate you to push yourself even more. No matter how much you feel like you don’t belong, keep going and refuse to stop. Not by anybody or anything. And finally remember that if you are feeling like an imposter or start think is what i’m doing isn’t good enough, it means you are getting into the game enough to recognize you are a player. You are putting yourself out there which is more than most people do and you are challenging yourself to level up. So keep on pushing yourself!
